      Thanks for taking the test Tony. I knew you would say no to 10 you are one of the nicest UA-camrs out there. 8 probably made you laugh a little, because I think if we aren't one of those guys then we definitely know a few. lol

    I knew I was a snob before I clicked on this video. I want 4K's and hate that I have to settle for blu-rays if there are no 4K available. What pisses me off though is when I finally break down and decide to purchase certain blu-rays they then announce a 4K. I can't stand seeing all the DVDs at Walmart and very little blu-rays and hardly any 4Ks. LOL

    • @sidehustlecinema
      @sidehustlecinema  19 днів тому

      I know what you mean about Walmart. Unless it's a really big movie mine won't even carry the 4k. Thanks for checking out the video.

    I only scored a 2.5 as I don't like slipcovers and I'm not fanatical about steelbooks.
    The half point was for the question about double dipping to get better packaging. I do that occasionally (like for the upcoming Taxi Driver steelbook) but not as a regular practice.

      Thanks for checking out the video, it sounds like you're pretty flexible as a collector. I wish I was but the longer I collect the more it becomes about other things besides the movie.

    I scored a 4, even honestly a yes on 10. If I want a movie, I will be bummed if I miss the super deluxe chunky box, but I won’t pay scalpers prices. I will suck it up and but the plain packaging. If I don’t want a movie, no super box with a movie poster autographed by the director and stars can be enough to tip the scales. I want it or I don’t. If I want it, I want the best, but if the best is sold out, but it is available without bells and whistles, I will grab that.

    Just only a couple of them is yes for me. I respect what everyone else collects, it's not my money. LOL... But I will always go for the 4k and a steelbook if available. I do not normally double dip, but I've double dipped when a 4k steelbook is released after the slipcover edition or I get one from another country (Thanks to OrbitDvd) But always sell the slipcover to cover the expense of the steelbook. This was a fun video.

      Glad you liked it. I'm not a big double dipper either but I've done it enough that I can't really say I don't do it.

    I never considered myself a movie snob. I care about the film not the packaging.
    Only one I answered yes to is a do double dip. I have steelbook and regular bluray or 4k version. Because I love the artwork on the steelbook and I never open them since 95 percent of my steelbooks are sealed

      It's nice to hear that after all the years you've been collecting you haven't changed the way you collect that much. My mindset has changed so much it's like baseball cards to me now.

    I will almost always get the 4k if it’s available (for the first time purchase of the film), more about future proofing than anything. 10 years down the road when we have 8k+ tvs I want the most pixels driving it. I already have a hard time watching dvds on a 4k tv. I’ll even go as far as not viewing a movie for the first time if I know a blu ray/4k is coming. I want to experience the film in its highest quality and as close to the directors vision as possible

    I do have a few dvds myself (mainly cool special editions of old movies and tv show sets), but I find it hard to "get" people with huge dvd collections and that are still specifically collecting it. I mean, what are you doing? Blu rays are _insanely_ better and incredibly cheap these days. But hey, I'd rather someone buy dvds than just watch everything on streaming. You get used to the low quality image after a few minutes watching, and I find setting my tv's dnr to high (this is the only time I ever use dnr for anything) helps a bit. Despite what I said, watching dvds is still fun, and I'm proud of some of the complete shows I have, but I'd never buy a dvd of a recent(ish) movie.

    • @sidehustlecinema
      @sidehustlecinema  20 днів тому

      The bigger the TV you have the worse a DVD looks. There is so much blocking and banding it takes me out of the movie. Thanks for checking out the video there's been so many great responses.

    Fun video and got a good laugh out of "piss off" . I don't find myself being a snob about the editions of movies ( more jealous that I don't own all of the incredible packaging / art for movies that I like ) but I do find myself being a movie snob when people are praising a movie that I think is by-the-numbers and done better in previous movies . I have never gotten the impression from your content that you are a movie snob , just someone who enjoys sharing their hobby and collection . Cheers .

      Glad you enjoyed the video. I have fallen in the traps of being a collector first, movie lover 2nd and I feel kinda weird about that. Snob may not be the correct term but you get where I was going with it.

    Fun topic man! Great video. I could definitely relate to a lot of what you said, and I found myself answering in the affirmative to a number of your questions (though not quite all). So I'm probably headed for snobbery... if I'm not already there LOL🤣😉. I am a bit of a format snob; I can't hang with DVDs anymore. They look like crap to my eyes Lol. So it's 4K and blu-ray only for me. I won't even watch most of the old DVDs I have anymore of movies that were never released in HD or better, even though that's the only way I can view the film. I'd just rather go without the film than be stuck with a low-resolution DVD. So 1080p is my minumum quality standard (although I can handle 720p occasionally for streaming, if I'm previewing a film to see if I want to buy it). Honestly it kind of boggles my mind that anyone could be satisfied with DVD quality these days. But everyone's eyes are different, and the format clearly still sells for some bizarre reason. Your #10 question was pretty interesting... I don't look ever down on anyone else's collection -- but if they're all about DVD, I admit I won't watch many -- if any -- videos where DVDs are the focus. I just don't feel like I can relate to those videos as much anymore. The format seems so obsolete to me.

      I agree with you on DVD so much. After buying all this high end equipment to have the best viewing experience to go back to DVD seems wrong. I'm also a grain hater although I don't want too much DNR either. I love a new crispy digitally shot action movie with an amazing atmos track.

    Great video, man!
    A couple hilarious quotes: “Well, I invite you to go ahead and piss off.” 🤣😂
    “That kinda makes you an asshole.” 😂
    Now for the questions:
    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. No
    4. Yes- I actually started doing this because I missed out on two of my favorite John Carpenter films in steelbook form: The Thing and Halloween Best Buy Exclusives.
    5. Yes
    6. Yes- Rarely, though. I’ve only done it a few times.
    7. Yes- But I’m just being smart-ass when I do it 😆. I couldn’t care less if someone actually has a slipcover on their movie or not.
    8. Yes
    9. No- I actually just bought the standard 4K edition of The Guest because I want it in my collection. And it does not bother me that I missed out on the fancy box set.
    10. No- I actually know people that have insanely cool DVD collections that I love. I’m a huge fan of DVD snapper cases, and a lot of people look down on those, but I’ll never give them up. I also still have DVDs that I enjoy watching, such as Falling Down. 😃🤓📀
    Fun Fact: I actually watched this video twice. Once for fun, and then again for the questions. 🤘😎🤘
