Tried the yam recipe today. I am super happy with the results. Thanks for the detailed instruction on your channel. I am now looking for recipe to make the leftover yam.
Hi Josephine Loy, thank you so much for the positive feedback! May I suggest to make Yam Rice (ua-cam.com/video/qSnb0K1YAG0/v-deo.html) or Yam Soup (ua-cam.com/video/jmXeNxK78Dw/v-deo.html), they are very delicious! Do subscribe for more recipes like this 😄

Hi Somjit. Thank you for your reply on the yam weight. Finally I cooked yam cake yesterday, it was delicious, turned out just nice, tasty & it was perfect on the softness..not too hard n not too soft 😄 Thank you again for sharing such a good recipe 👍
Hi LY Huang, Thank you for sharing your experience. I am overwhelmed with joy to know that you have tried my recipe with success and satisfaction! Have a great day.
Very good recipe Somjit. I tried it today and it turned out to be the best yam cake i've ever tasted. Thank you and keep sharing more recipes! Just one question, in this version you steamed the yam first but other recipes doesn't require this process. What is the reason of doing so?
Hi Chin Siew Ming, Thank you for your positive feedback. I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed the recipe. The reason for initial steaming the yam is to ensure that it is cooked before mixing with flour and other ingredients. So that we don't have to worry whether the yam is cooked or not at the final steaming. In a way, it helps to improve the texture of the cake as well. Thank you very much. Please like, subscribe and share the video. Cheers!
Hi Prema Wilson, Thank you for the comment. I am glad that you find it good. the list of ingredients are in the description box below the video. You might want to check it out. If you all don't have time to make the sauce just buy from supermarket the Abc chilli sauce and Abc sweet chilli sauce that is goes with it so well with the yam cake, I do make that too but in different way of mixing the rice flour
Hi @Jtsh705, sorry for my late reply. I'm not sure, I used blended rice flour. I have never tried this recipe with pure rice flour, so I'm not sure of the result. Hope it helps 😀😀
Hi ZoeyThean, thank you for the comment 😃 Yes, both ratios of flour and water should be adjusted. However, for the water, I recommend adding it gradually, and not all at once, to better control the consistency. Hope it helps 😃
Hi Chin Ka Yeok, Thanks for the comment. Tapioca flour tends to make the texture of yam cake more chewy/gummy which I don't like it that way. I also find that wheat flour blends well with rice flour or even all-purpose flour. Thanks!
Hi Elaine Wong, thanks for the question. 😄 The brand that I'm using is Erawan. It is pure rice flour, here's the link to it: bit.ly/3kFdvmH Hope it helps 😄
Hi @@elainewong8019, yes, for this recipe, I used pure rice flour (Thailand brand). I think if blended rice flour is used, the consistency when stirring the mixture over the heat would be too thick and it may impact the texture of the end result. Do let me know how the Yam Cake turns out 😄
Hi Manimegalai Krishnan, thanks for the question 😄 Actually, I've never tried making Yam Cake/ Taro Cake with cornflour. I would suggest to substitute it with rice flour instead as cornflour is thicker and more viscous than wheat flour. So you'd have 300g of rice flour instead of 250g of rice flour. This will change the texture of the Yam Cake a little bit, but it will still taste as amazing 😄
Hi Cyndy Voon. Longest I kept is 4 days ensure no contact with water. But should consume within the first or second day as taste will run if keep longer than that. Thanks for comment.
Thank you very much. But I have problem getting the flour, thanks to WUHAN virus, almost nothing is left on the shelves of supermarkets in Singapore. I will subscribe so I can give you feedback. Once again, Thank you very much. More recipe please.

Hi hoey feng Leong, It's around 700g of yam. I have added info in the list of ingredients in the description box below the video as well. Stay safe and happy cooking!
Hi Asna Kwa, My apology. It's 750ml. I have listed the amount of all ingredients used in the description box down below this video, you can check out on that too. For steaming is around 45 minutes to 1 hour. However steaming time is really depends on your steaming pot and and the heat use. Best is to keep checking if the cake is cook by using the skewer stick or cake tester to poke through the cake, if there in nothing stick on the stick meaning that your cake is cook. I have also explain (@8:05) about this in the video you may want to check that out. Thanks for the comment and Happy cooking.
Hi Lim Gheekiat, thank you for the comment 😀 I think I made a mistake - it's not salted black beans; it's fermented yellow soybeans, which is also known as taucu. Here's what it looks like: hcws.link/taucuwhole Hope it helps 😀
Hi Somjit. I think your 1.5L of water is too much for 250g of rice flour + 50g of wheat flour. Today I followed this amount and my yam cake couldn't set. Too watery. Please check.
Hi lee boon, Thanks for trying and I am sorry to hear that. The water prepared was 1.5 litter but the actual water used for this recipe is 750ml as I have mentioned in the video @4:33. I also indicated this in the description box with the rest of other ingredients. I hope you would give it a second chance. Thank you. Btw, I tried to make a correction in the video today (change will take effect in 3-4 hours time) to avoid confusion. I really appreciate your feedback. Thank you. 😃
Hi jehan c, The Yam Cake without dried shrimps still taste as good (I have tried it before). No need to add or remove any ingredient, you still can use the same recipe (exclude udang kering). I will not recommend using ikan bilis for the yam cake as the small pieces of minced crispy ikan bilis may cause throat irritation. Minced ikan bilis will also absorb a lot of moisture from the cake and alter the texture. It may not come out as per my recipe. But if you really need to use ikan bilis as a substitute for dried shrimps you can just fry it (don't mince it) and sprinkle on top of the cake once it's cooked. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking and happy cooking.

I love this savoury breakfast option but have never thought of making it at home. Think my mum did say that the sap can cause severe skin itch. How you choose a good yam root?
Hi penny g. Yes! Yam cake is a premium breakfast for us and my girls love it. Yam has sap below the skin that is quite slimy and if not handled properly can cause skin itch. It happened to me many times until I found out ways to cut the yam under the running water. When buying yam, I normally choose the root that does not look dry or dehydrated. The skin of the yam must be firm and fresh with no bruises or holes around the root and it should be overall heavy. The stem above the root should be fresh and moist. Older yam normally tastes better than the young ones. As such, I normally choose a slightly larger size. I hope this helps. Thank you.
Hi LY Huang, I didn't really weight it at that time. However, tomorrow I am making the Yam Cake again and will take the measurement and will let you know. Thank you for asking.

Hi Janet DR, I bought it from my local supermarkets. It can also be found from the online shopping store hcws.link/taucupaste Happy shopping 😀😀
Is it wheat starch and rice flour? Why need to steam yam before frying it?
@Jtsh705. To ensure that the yam are well cooked. In the even if the yam cubes are not all well cooked, it can cause the itchiness to the throat. 😀😀
Is this pure rice flour or its blended rice flour?
Hi @Jtsh705, sorry for my late reply. I'm not sure, I used blended rice flour. I have never tried this recipe with pure rice flour, so I'm not sure of the result. Hope it helps 😀😀
Hi Somjit. Can I use Tepung Gandum instead of Wheat Flour?. Pls advise. TQ
