Aloha from Nuuanu, Hawaii, thanks for producing this taro cake recipe it's the best. Refer to it whenever I harvest Chinese taro from my yard and make taro cake, which I love to eat and reminds me of my mom's taro cake that she made over half a century ago. Unfortunately, she is gone and so is her recipe. The rice pounder also reminds me of the one that my grandmother had and all my uncles had to pound rice to make the floor for gau.
We are so glad we found this channel. It is very well produced and the content is excellent. My mom is from the same area as your parents so I have been playing these for her. Daddy Lau's detail explanation and your pertinent questions are excellent. BTW, your recipes and the way Daddy Lau cooks is exactly the way she taught us. Do you think you can do a version of this but using Sago (sai mai)? Unfortunately my mom can't remember the quantities anymore so we have been searching the net for it. Thank you for sharing your family with us.
Hi Theresa, thank you so much for the kind words! We're so glad you found us as well! Thank you for sharing with your family as well :) I will ask my dad about that version! Do you know the Chinese characters for Sago? I'm not exactly sure what it is.
Thank you for asking your dad. We will be forever grateful if your dad has this recipe as we have been searching for it for ages. My mom is 91 and we would love to make this for her. The Cantonese character for sago is 西米. BTW my brother made this taro cake using your recipe and it tastes just like my mom's - unfortunately we ate it all before remembering we should have taken a photo to show you. Thank you again for a brilliant channel!

Hilarious.
Gong Hei Fatt Choy from Singapore! I chanced upon your channel and now I can’t stop bing watching. My hubby is Cantonese and I’d want to cook all these yummy Cantonese dishes for him.
Thank you for sharing with your family as well :)
I will ask my dad about that version!
I’m usually not a fan of taro cake but your dad makes it look good!
Thanks for the love! Kat loveeessss Taro Cake, she was a big advocate for making this video haha.
Papa Lau is the best!!
I enjoy watching your dad’s cooking

In Toronto all restaurants are locked down and my grandparents and I have been craving this for a while. Thank you for posting this. I am a Chef Lau fan. Have always loved Chinese cooking shows like Yan Can Cook 😊
I love your video, thank you for giving us all the information about the cookware and all the components. Thank you so much.
I enjoy his childhood stories. Do you have longer videos on Daddy Lau's village?
Just finished watching your video. Thanks for sharing your culture with us. You make cooking Chinese food easier. And thanks for explaining the meaning behind each dish. I learnt alot about the importance of taro cake this evening. Kinanaskomitin. I thank you.
Wow! I always love ordering this dish for Dim Sum and now to be able to make it myself is a great accomplishment. My Dad who is no longer with us, would have really been impressed! :) Thank you, Mr Lau and family :)

Waaah leng doy, Cam Cam =)
Holy moly!!! Where do I start?! I'm here by way of CCDM and boy, am I glad I did! From the Chinese history, wonderful flute music, to the cantonese lessons (my cantonese is weak so when asked, I say I'm an ABC, which is a TOTAL lie, to save from further embarrassment, but yet not as bad as my Hoisanese😅), easy to follow instructions, awesome editing, graphics, and the wholesome family meal segment, I'm loving this!
Keep up the awesome work! Cheers =)
Thank you so much for being here with us and for all of the kind words! We're grateful to have you along with us for the journey of sharing our recipes and heritage :)
My Cantonese isn't the greatest either hahaha so creating these videos help out a lot! Glad you're enjoying so many aspects of the videos - feels great to know you appreciate it so much!
thank you and happy new year! I miss this cake...my grandma used to make it.
