Small Scale Rainwater Harvesting Walkthrough - Blue Barrel Rainwater Catchment System

In this vlog, I walk through my small-scale rainwater harvesting system that uses two 50-gallon blue barrels creating 100 gallons of rainwater storage. This rainwater catchment setup is based on Blue Barrel System's DIY kits that allow you to use 50-gallon blue barrels to create an easy DIY system that can work from one barrel to hundreds! Harvesting rainwater is a great way to start becoming more self-reliant, and upcycling blue barrels helps keep these products out of the landfill by putting them to better use. This small-scale rainwater harvesting system took me less than a day to set up with the convenient instructions and rainwater harvesting kits sold by Blue Barrel. This rainwater harvesting system is easy to setup and maintain, and I'll walk through each component of the system to show you the basics and share tips and tricks I've learned through the installation and maintenance process thus far.
As Bill Mollison (co-originator of permaculture) said, "If you only do one thing, collect rainwater."

Thank you Dude. I from Chicago, but here in East Africa where it rains good. The people here actually walk and buy water to use. I simply thought that something on a small scale is doable. This video helped me greatly to start my imagination going on this issue.

Very nice. I think in addition to the first flush diverter you can also use the first tank to catch the early water by filling from the top and connect to the system at the top. This will make the system has even cleaner water.

Since you get alot of rain would you add more barrels to your system so you can harvest more water?

Certainly! I only have a small amount of space in my side yard, which is why I'm only using 2 barrels, but if I had more space or I wanted to store more water, I could add on as many barrels to this system as I wanted.
