Moooooore of this ! This is like the character design sections we are waiting for jazza to do for years 😂
Yes, please! This is great!!
I agree, this is great!! Would love to see more!! Great ideas from the artists!
when you are big enough to hire more people to deligate the task)
I fully agree ❤
Love it too !!! ❤
Okay, we need a Tabletop Time crossover to run a one shot for the insert art team once Kat and Aleysha have made characters too!
This.
Yep
Heck yeah
Most definitely
Would be cool, if TT team would sculp those characters that Insert Art team created.
I like how Ariel gives so much back story about her characters. Like everything has a meaning and a story behind it. It makes her characters seem more real
The half elf dude was super cool! With the scales and tail, he looked like he was half elf, half Dragonborn! And the effects on the eco-wizard was just…wow. Such a good job!
So glad you liked Pengolas!
I hear half-elf and then you came with half-pangolin. You know what? I'm in love with that idea. WHY WE SHOULD STICK THE HALF-ELF IS HALF-HUMAN? 💙Hope to see the others doing their DnD characters. 👀
Ikr? Bc of the prehensile tail I was fully expecting a half-tiefling, half-elf, or the half-human half-elf with some sort of polymorph? But I am in love with this half-pangolin tho
when i play half-elf I have a half teifling/elf. there is a very popular half-elf half-orc combo.
I had been expecting half elf-half Dragonborn, cause idk, I play dragonborns a lot, and surely they could have a prehensile tail
Backstory for the half-elf-half-pangolin:
His mother was being chased down, as someone wanted to kill/ abduct her, or her child. She was mortally wounded and knew she could not save her child, so her only option was to try hide him with her remaining magic (or a magic item/potion). Maybe she happened to see a pangolin just then, and decided to conceal her child as one, noting it's protective exterior, but due to her condition she botched it. Somehow the child was only partially transformed...
I definitely need a one shot of these characters!
The idea at 18:06 that Aleysha and Kat are also drawing DnD character so they all may play a oneshot is´such an awesome idea. I really love the two designs right here and I would like to see them in roleplay action. 🤩
Btw it´s a blast to see a person like Ariel, not as highly skilled as for example Aleysha or Morgan yet, to be part of this channel and showing the help and tips she gets from the others. I´m also an artist developing my own style and I often struggle at some points. It´s really great you show the people that art is for everyone and that everyone has their own style and level of skills.
I think having someone who's more experienced and able to give critiques is really beneficial for artists. I was lucky enough to be friends with an artist working at riot and he was so kind to give critiques on my art when I hang out in his studio. This helped with my art a lot.
She also asks really good questions
Damn, that Poison Carmen gunslinger is just a perfect concept art. I can imagine a whole book or comic made around her clawing her way through wrongdoers against nature:) Pangolas was cool too, interesting concept:)
I can totally see Poison Carmen manipulating "Pangolas" to help her down some environmental wrongdoers - she's neutral evil, and while she doesn't MIND hurting people, she's clever enough to know that it's most likely to be the most difficult way to bring people to work with her.
More More More Moreeeee and More.. Down the line- do championships, fan voting in social media, character design books and moree... This is how we restore the creativity that's reducing in these days 🙌
Both of these designs could be spreads in a D&D guidebook; they’re so good! The missing arm/prehensile tail aspect is inspired af. And the magic nature claws - 10/10 for both
OMG I'd die if I got in a DnD book 😍 thanks' for the kind words!
Morgan’s confidence in front of the camera has absolutely skyrocketed! You guys are both fantastic! Also yes you definitely need to play D&D with these characters once the other insert artists draw their characters 👀
Ariel makes such a great addition to the team! She’s so outgoing and asks some really great questions! ❤
The vine hand fits so well with a variety of DnD spells so it is interesting that Morgan drew it knowing nothing of DnD. Great job!
oh really! haha I'm glad it fits in to the world! -M
@@insertartshow It could easily be Biggby's Hand, Grasping Vine, or Maximillian's Earthen Grasp
I love this style of videos. Feels like a mix of the old Jazza character creations that i loved so much and Drawfee and i'm all for it. Hope to see more of these in the future, no need to go "BIG EPIC PROJECTS" like Jazza
Agreed! Character creations really let you into the process mind of the artist and with all the talent they have, we are never going to run out of cool things to see.
Wow, both artists really outdid themselves with these prompts!
Also, Ariel, if Pangolas wants to draw the sword with his left hand, you would have to put the scabbard on his right side, reaching across is a much more ergonomic move. But ... what if he wants to draw the sword with his prehensile tail instead? It then could go next to the quiver, so it wont be perturbing on any sides ...
Technically the truth
[Ariel] I know! I realized this after we finished recording :') At the time I must've been thinking more of a dagger (e.g. concealed in boot and drawn with the hand on the same side) rather than a short sword. Love your idea of drawing the sword with his tail!
I think Pangolas is a perfect name! For the nature witch gunslinger I came up with 'Vinny Stinger' if you want to use that :)
The Half-elf character could be half-tiefling as they are a demonic race that can look like almost anything and normally have tails and are also usually outcasts around the world.
D&D dice prompt. I haven't even started the video yet and I love it already.
This video was so much fun! I personally like the name “Pangolas” and hope it sticks :) Backstory idea: whoever Pangolas’s non-elf parent was, they were a Druid whose favorite animal to Wild Shape into was a pangolin. They did it so often for so long, that any offspring they might have would take on a few characteristics of that animal :)
I like how Morgan and Ariel just randomly come up with splice names of stuff and Ariel just hates it and Morgan forces her to accept it lol
I love the fact that because the artists aren't used to working quickly we end up with a speed draw is amazing, and what a good combo y'all are great!
"I just started chucking down heads, because heads and portraits are my comfort zone"
You just cracked the code to why I have so much trouble starting drawings?? I always try to go for the 'important' aspects of a drawing first, the parts that would make said drawing great but as a result I struggle to begin because it's always out of my comfort zone.
Thank you for that unintentional nugget of wisdom. From now on I'm going to start actually working in my comfort zone to build confidence and then step out of it later once I have a solid base
What could be really cool is if Table Top Time uses these characters in a future campaign or even a smaller, side campaign! I don't play D&D, but I'd love to see these characters come to life! OR you can create a short story for them! I really love both of these
OMG I'd love for that to happen! -M
I love the addition of Ariel to the team because I can tell even though she’s an amazing artist, she’s still learning and looking for ways to improve which makes me feel a lot more confident and represented :D great video guys
Ariel's art looks more refined and I'm all for it. It also seems she's more in her element with these DnD character designs.
The history behind Pengolas it's so rich already it can absolutely be a character you play with on D&D. As for Morgan's Gunslinger... how on earth did he draw her so quickly??? Also, great hearing he was inspired by Todd McFarlane as well. What an amazing video. We need MOAR!!!
Yaaaaay, so glad you liked the video and our characters! hehe Todd McFarlane is GOAT
It'd be fun to cross this over with Table top time role play. I'm sure some of the crew over there would enjoy playing pengolas and the Elf duster lady
Tabletop time could first make them as miniatures and paint them, revealing the miniatures as a surprise to the [Insert Art] crew for the roleplay session! Art begets more art 😃
Morgan's character sounded like an Elven version of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden. Wizard, duster, gun... And Dresden is currently the Winter Knight of the Winter Court of the Fae...
Both characters are very cool. I would love to see more videos like this. I would also be interested in a Collab with Shad to critique the D&D elements. Maybe you guys should do a few of these creating PCs and NPCs that will then be used in Table Top Gaming.
I'm running a D&D campaign, and if this had come out when I was designing the elf kingdom, I'd likely have ended up making an entire subrace based of Pangolas. In my world, 'elf' is a catch-all term that refers to a mix of races; the subraces include regular elves, minotaurs, tabaxi, harengon, and even hobgoblins and bugbears. An anthro pangolin would not look out of place.
I’d love to see Aleysha and Kat do this an then you guys do a one shot together!
I love both of these! Would really enjoy watching a one shot with the four of you!
Pangolas is a great name. Please keep it. I imagine the character named himself that to throw the “unacceptable” half of himself in the teeth of the elven society that rejected him, while at the same time reminding the pangolin-like society he grew up in (also with rejection) that he is one of them.
The editing for Pangolas' reveal made me laugh :D
These are so awesome!!!
The editing made us laugh too! We didn't expect that reveal x'D Our editors are awesome!
With the hat of red, that pose, and the gun, I thought more of Miss Fortune from League of Legends mixed with Poison Ivy.
Yes MORE D&D characters!
Loved them both. Can't wait for more
I really love that making the claw a spell actually works with the 5e rules. It legitimately made me think of "Maximilian’s Earthen Grasp" as soon as it appeared.
I love this channel!! 😭🤩 Using the tail to pull the bow?? LOVE. Bullets on the hat?? So cool! And I just love the give and take between the artists. Character design excites me. This is fantastic!!!
so glad you enjoyed the video! and our characters :)
I'd love to see Kat and Alysha getting in on this and then everyone playing them in D&D! Actually, this could make for a good series in my book! I mean, I'd definitely play as these characters! Also, I really like the original backstories as well. I wouldn't change them.
Nice job!👍 Pangolas gives me birdperson vibes from rick and morty 😄
I love this! Thank you Ariel for your candor in asking Morgan for tips and advice, it’s really cool learning that insight to his process and influence 🖤
I honestly wouldn't have thought to mention any of that stuff without Ariel's questions 🙃 -M
Great idea using D20 dice when not sure what to draw. I struggle with drawing from imagination. All your references I know! ❤ I love how you explain why you chose a reference and how you incorporated it into your drawings to enhance your work and learn a technique. I can relate to Ariel, I get stuck in the same places. Love that you share that and how you got unstuck.❤
I do solo roleplaying in my spare time and have bought a few things for it, and tbh I have used in the past the oracle tables from these games for drawing inspiration! The action and theme d100 tables in Ironsworn are great for that, if you want to check it out: it's free!
Absolutely love character designs, you definitely need to get all four of you doing this at some point.
I love how you bounce off of each other for tips and inspiration! Having that dynamic allows us all to learn and grow together! Would love to see more like this with Kat and Alicia too!
I love the idea that Pangolas(?) would remain lawful neutral despite the persecution he's faced. He could take revenge, but chooses not to. He knows what it is like to be oppressed, and to oppress others would just be feeding into a cycle of hatred that many innocent bystanders would have to endure. He can never forgive his tormentors, but to act on his feelings would only ensure more destruction in the future.
This is what I'm here for!
Well actually for all videos, but this one in particular. D&D AND character design drawing
Definitely need to have Kat and Aleysha do this too!
The cut to just a normal pangolin trodding along during Ariel's character reveal made me laugh, perfect.
Also just love both the characters; the movement in the poses is great, and the design choices you both made were a lot of fun.
Pangolas is such a creative idea. You guys are such inspiring and charismatic people! ❤
Damn, I love Ariel as an addition to the team, cuz I relate so much:
Still developing digital art skills
Comfortable with portraits more than backgrounds
Has to come up with a story for every character
Damn, I should make a new character soon
Ariel's narrating is really good, I look forward to seeing more content with her!
I would love to see you guys build something individually like weapons from thermacol!! It would be cool to see descriptions given about the iconic weapons and the way you guys draw them!
Oooh! Please please do a tabletop game with these characters! I've seen/heard that done before on channels and podcasts, and it can be SO fun! I love the characters. I mean, you've got TT in house to help work out the game play challenges!
That was a great idea to google prehensile tails instead of just going with the obvious monkeys. Really original result!
I love Ariel, an amazing addition to the crew❤🎉
This is amazing! Also, I'm convinced that even if Pangolas gets renamed they will always be affectionately known as Pangolas.
I love these random generator challenges because it gives some limitations but still pushes you to think outside the box and create designs like pangolin half-elves or gunslinging wizards. Wow, love this channel!
thanks! glad you're loving the channel :)
i would absolutely love to see you guys roll up characters and then play some sessions. the absolute random chaos of the character types would be fun to see interact
Can we please get some tutorials on the basics? The way you guys use shapes to make the bases before going in to refine the body and eventually the final designs is so fun and interesting!!
The description for Morgan's character of a magic user with a western duster immediately made me think of the main characters from two of my favorite fantasy book series: Brandon Sanderson's "Alloy of Law" series and Jim Butcher's "Harry Dresden" series. Neither character would have claws, though. Interesting he went female.
sometimes you gotta go fem bby ;) [M]
You guys have the ability to make these characters and play your game in the studio with the tTt team. Would love to see you guys create a new universe and characters with backstory to be played out with tTt!
I would also love another video like this!!! ❤
These are great! And I think it's a good idea to have everyone do a character.
In every d&d campaign for the rest of time, if you play a half-elf you get to just pick the other half. 😂😂
This makes me so, so happy.
This challenge really nicely showcased Ariel's talents and i love this interactive sort of character design session where Ariel was asking questions that I have had through my design sessions. Also this was like a nostalgic video from when jazza did character designs
I love how they bounce ideas off of eachother and how Ariel actually asked Morgan for his input and advice because she wasn't sure. you guys have created such an open and lovely environment and its a pleasure to watch
I think insert Art needs an artist that has a Gothic horror style / Dark academia. To add the other extreme to the art styles seen. Love everything about this channel
Narrative wise, I would say that he is a half elvish and half pangolin-like dragonborn. He could be named Brynjaonar (brynje is Norse for armor, aonar is celtic for alone... this would mean he would be the "armored orphan").
great details! love the name as well
[Ariel] How is Brynjaonar pronounced? I'm huge on name meanings and I absolutely LOVE this. It's also a cool-looking word! Maybe it was his original name, before everyone else started calling him Pangolas xD
That is such an amazing challenge idea :00. I might try it myself as an artist who enjoys RPG games
This is how I make background characters. I design my own OCs that I play without any chance.
I love Morgan character and was picturing a story why she shifted the gun to her left hand and doing magic with her right (because the holster is on her right leg).
And I love Ariel character too. Half pangolin??? What? It turned to be great. And this idea that the tail draw the bow… 😳 Love it!
I already love Ariel style now I definitely enjoy her journey to become as skilled as Morgan or Alisha.
thanks for watching and for the kind words! :)
More of these please, they are great
You guys should do a duel D&D show Tabletop campaign side by side with you guys and definitely need to see the others build out their characters.
Love Ariel’s style!! It’s really inspiring
Pangolas has inspired me. He could be like the start of a new Dragonborn race, or like distant relative of dragonborns... like from a "South East Asian" region in D&D universe (whatever that might look like) where Dragonborns are Pangolin shaped instead of like... eurocentric dragon shaped like current designs... 😍 The possibilities!
Really loved this: especially seeing the Q&A about how to render the fabric. I want more!
Your explanation of the process is not only entertaining but also helpful for us! Thank you for your content !
Fantastic Stuff, more of these videos would be awesome!
I love how this video feels like a real conversation between these two! awesome to hear two artists actually asking each other the questions a bunch of viewers probably have!
Cool video! I love how Ariel is improving by leagues, and she was so good to begin with. There's so much talent in this channel.
Yuss please, another one with Kat and Aleysha 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing! Please more of this!
I actually fist pumped when she picked a pangolin as the animal with a prehensile tail. I lone that off the beaten path choice instead of having him be half monkey or something.
[Ariel] Same, dude. I got so excited when I saw pangolins on the list of animals with prehensile tails! Always love having that left-field option to play with ^^
Before he said it, I was looking at the cape and thought exactly, that's a spawn cape. I love it.
I'm stoked you clocked the influence :) -M
What creativity! so much fun, thank you for sharing it with us (#Pengolas4EVER!)
Pangolas could feasibly be half elf/half dragonborn which still works aesthetically but is less…problematic lol
I for sure want more stuff like this. Unique character creation is so much fun.
I loved this so much, definitely do moooooore for sure. I love character design so much, and dnd is a great realm to experiment with it
so glad you enjoyed the vid! we are keen to dip back in :)
Okay but like, you guys totally CRUSHED IT!! I absolutely adore both characters and their stories are so fun and interesting!! Also adored the little tutorial moment with Morgan about capes and flow, I also struggle a lot with fabric movement like Ariel so it's always nice to hear people who know about this stuff explain a bit more! Thank you for this great video and awesome job!! ❤
oh damn! thank you very much :)
100% here for more D&D Content! Let's go on An ADVENTURE!
omg yaaas! -M
What an amazing vibe! Allay Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Wrinkles and Folds is a great resource I learned from.
ooo nice! ill check that out -M
Yes please we need to see the others do their characters and then a one shot with all 4
I love this prompt and their characters! Wow! They are both so talented and inspiring! Their energy was great together and I love the way that she asks the questions that most beginner artists would ask a professional artist to get that boost of confidence and knowledge. And the way they answered each others questions was so helpful to each other and for the audience!
They both look amazing ❤
These characters are so incredible I love how they turned out with the randomization. I'd definitely love to see them in a campaign as characters and so happy to see them now part of the Doungeon and Dragon world
I would love more episodes like this!! Your character designs are so cool and inspiring!
Anyone else want to protect pangolins with, like, all our powers combined?
So fun to watch the process! Love the random elements, seeing your creativity and processes and learning as you go and your end results are amazing! Alysha and Kat please do this too and then either do an art battle with your characters (round robin style) or as others have already suggested a Tabletop Time Crossover One Shot ☺aving the lists available somewhere would also be fun to participate in too... 😉Amazing!!
More DND characters!!!!! Table Top Time we are looking at you for a one shot!!!!
I really like Morgan painterly style and posing of his characters. Especially the fluidity. Honestly, this gunslinger Elf reminded me of I-no from Guilty Gear. About Ariel's art work, it definitely feels like she is not comfortable to draw with time limits, so I want to see her art without any strict time limits. Cause Pangolas looked so promising(
Super cool video! I really like Pangolas, lol--the concept of him using his tail instead of his lost arm is very interesting. I hope the other two design characters, too =)
