When I first saw Shadow in the issue, I thought he was secretly into Chao Racing, you know, as a joke. And after seeing that "Chaodow" I was convinced Shadow was raising Chao on his free time. We were this close to greatness...
It actually a run/run dark chao from Sa 2
It would definitely show his softer side.
Maybe he'll raise dark chao after when Clutch loses.

Would be pretty sweetly wholesome if he ended up taking that 'Chaodow' in if/when it loses to it and Clutch maybe ends up disowning it.

The Shadow Chao is basically a Dark Type Run Chao, you get this by making one of the bad guys in SA2 train a Chao to increase its Running stat! Which fits Clutch since he's a Shady and probably cruel guy who wants to win races!
It just looks like Shadow, but you don't need Shadow to get this form of Chao!
Actually the Dark Type Run Chao Chao in SA2 has turquoise stripes as opposed to the red that's seen here, so it is different from the normal Dark Type Run Chao.

From what I've heard, while run/run dark starts as turquise, as it gets older, it's turquiose turns to red.
I honestly feel sorry for Omega he had his body broken twice talk about a serious blow to his pride.
He's been stuck all this time without guns attached.
He's probably less worried about pride and more about shooting things not being something he can do right now.
11:02 actually I think classic sonic was the past, it’s just that when the future self interfered in the course of events, it caused it to become another timeline, for example classic eggman not wanting to go through the plans that he knows would fail like his when his future counterpart did them and trying new ones instead.
So it in turn crafter two separate universes? So Classic Eggman crafted a completely different splinter universe? Diverging path?

All I was saying was that there are two timelines. The original, and the one that was created when Eggman’s meddling with the time space continuum made the characters’ past selves aware of the course of events that would have happened.

I think the reason they changed classic sonic's origin is so they don't have to worry about the timeline when making classic sonic games. It's still dumb but at least it's a real reason.
Should've did a Multi-verse theory thing like a timeline split so they don't have to worry about the current timeline being altered.

Looks like a good start for the Evan era of the IDW Sonic comics. Glad she is getting a chance to shine while Ian takes some time off from the comics (Well, after he is finished with the Bad Guys mini series). Im also glad that the Chao Race arc is more lighted hearted. We already got a grand feast of darkness and sadness from the Metal Virus arc, so it makes sense to have our next meal be on the light side.

@@circledude2362 I don't, because I don't want her fired. Whether we like it or not, mandates are a fact of life for the job description. The early days could get away with it (for better and for worse) because Sega did not care. Anecdotally, they didn't even provide copies of some games whilst mandating their adaptation. Nowadays they have more interest in the comics, which is probably part of the reason they're still running in the first place, but unfortunately means Sega cares about the image it conveys more.

@@circledude2362 Rewriting parts in opposition to the mandates would get her fired, because they're mandatory. And Sega would probably wind up enforcing said mandates even harder as a consequence, just as how the Archie dark ages can probably be pointed to for specific mandates today (for example, Sonic not being allowed to be in a romantic relationship and 'the slap')

I think that the cloaked figure is Doctor Starline because if you look at the them being pinned up against the wall by shadow. You can see starline's ankle barb's witch are apparent under it the cloak. 😌👍

I remember watching a video reading of this issue and for reasons that is most likely in a hopeful sense, when the mysterious figure in the furred coat started to put the hood down apparently the person who did the video used part of Infinite's theme, but that is most likely in a hopeful sense cause I am not sure if Sega has changed their minds on allowing Infinite to return in the comics. But it would be great to see Infinite again in my opinion.
That was on Silver_Sonic's Channel, and he denied the hooded figure being Infinite.
@@videogollumer Ok, I am aware of that but still nobody knows who the hooded figure is and we don't even know if the hooded figure is someone we know or that it will be a new IDW original character and if we are to always have a mysterious figure who is antagonistic then it might as well have Infinite's theme playing in the background cause it has been at least three years and Infinite hasn't been seen in any sonic related stuff in that long and has only appeared in Smash bros ultimate as a spirit. So the question is what are they going to do with Infinite cause they have Zavok back so they might as well bring back Infinite with an upgrade or with the actual Phantom Ruby instead of a prototype.
Just a quick comment, but the Chao genderless thing isn't actually a retcon. It's something that came from the localization only. In the Japanese version of the games, Cheese and Chocola were never given pronouns because the japanese language doesn't have pronouns. The localizers just assumed for the both of them which is what lead to the misconception starting. Something similar happened with NiGHTS who is also genderless, but got referred to as a he in the localization but was later fixed (bonus that Chao are based off of the Nightopians from that series). It is curious that the change wasn't enforced until this issue though like you said, maybe Sega didn't notice until now.

@@amazaine8743 Even if it wasn't true, things that are genderless can still be called by pronouns. Metal Sonic is called a he despite being a robot which do not have gender. This is why we differentiate gender and sex.

0:40 Ghost of the future is my favorite Sónic fanfic .for those who don't know it, it's about Zilver traveling and living adventures with a sonic ghost and shadow , what I like the most about it is being able to meet Zilver's family, evil Nicole and deepen hes relationship with Blaze ( who was made a descendant of big ).
But ultimately it's more known for having a special About el dia de los muertos.
it would be cool if the shadow chao once belonged to Shadow, and Shadow was there to also take it back

So, this is just a silly theory, but most of Shadow's Sonic Channel artwork features a Dark Run Chao just like the Shadow Chao in this comic. Maybe they're going to make that connection canon in this continuity?
Bonus points if the chao's name is Terios too.
One Antagonist I think that might show up is Zeena, she has a grudge against Cream and Gemerl and her boss fight from "Sonic Lost World" took place in the Frozen factory stage. A winter/cold area just like WinterPark, I'm not saying that the one in the hood/coat is Zeena but it wouldn't surprise me if she showed up, even as a background character watching our heroes.
First of all Rouge has never met Zeena personally neither as Shadow. It probably would be Mimic since he change his appearances quite often. Possibly Rouge gets mistaken by another character since Mimic keeps swapping identity. But I do not like Zeena at all after what she did to Cream. It would be better off good that she was just being mauled by some Zombots.

I actually think the art style's coloring really fits here, it gives off a kind of warm/cozy look which is fitting for the atmosphere of the lodge they are in
This issue was nicely written and I’m not worried about SEGA’s policy.
I think that fur coat is neo metal sonic because he can copy data so he would be able to fly run fast and have super strength and the colors he was turning into is obviously a nod to sonic hero’s and he made his debut in sonic heroes

I really enjoy the world building in these comics, it’s cool how the writing team pulls multiple different locations from multiple different games

Seriously, I love how Amy has been written to have her limits with Sonic in recent comics.
Remember when Cheese and Chocola were established as brothers in Sonic Heroes? Good times... I hope we won't have another "all Toads are genderless" situation on our hands.
I mean I hate that this is apparently Amy's new line not only because in this continuity in particular was she hyped up for exactly this back when she and Sonic did make there way to Echo Mines but also because one of Amy's most important character traits since 1998 is her own love for excitement and adventure so her turning down the offer of a potentially action filled and dangerous adventure with Sonic also seams to miss a very Important part of her character in general as well.
As for the Chao technically speaking were there always all gender less (because of there breeding mechanic in the games them self) but it seams weird to just start now to enforce having them all referred by gender-neutral pronounce when so far cheese and Chaos and the like always have been refereed by male pronounce.
Holy cow! The one who wrote ‘Ghosts of the Future’ is now writing the IDW main comic?! Wow! I remember reading that years ago, so it’s pretty wild finding that out.
I have two theories about the cloaked figure (I’m not sure if either one is remotely possible). Theory 1: It’s Metal Sonic. In Sonic Heroes, Metal Sonic could collect data and mimic abilities like Shadow’s Chaos Control. He saw all of the attributes the figure used (flight, speed, and power). But this is unlikely because he never glowed when using abilities like those before. Also, that ability seemed exclusive to Neo Metal Sonic.
Theory 2 (bit of a long shot): a new robot made from what was left of Emerl. It would make sense for a gizoid to use those three different powers as long as they had seen them once before. But like I said, this is a long shot and will probably never happen. It could also be an E-121 Phi, but they could only mimic one person each.
Both of these at least have the appearance of someone Rouge would know, but the chances of either of these being right are slim to none.
2:08 i'm 90% sure IDW knows about Secret that i wroted on YT in some other Sonic Videos (mainly about Amy) and they Maked Sonic more convident about Inviting Amy to Adventures Together in the way "only two of us"

Is it possible for Amy and Rouge to find another way to complete their mission if Cheese lost the first race?
For a first big league attempt, I honestly thought it went quite well, especially with the subtle nods to old artwork of winter outfits made by the official Sonic Channel.
There were numerous adorable moments in this. Chocola flopping in the cookie batter, Cream giving Cheese a little needed motivation, so many little nods.
Also, Clutch, Even though Evan stated otherwise, reminds me oh so much of DC Comic's The Penguin, collecting and amassing so much stuff that wants things in return.
Also, Chao Trainer sets off so many red flags in regards to Clutch. His words seem to imply a dark ambition.
Also, no political gobbledygook here, but I was indifferent at this retcon. It is extremely minor since Sonic as a brand is known for inconsistencies and "Negative Continuity". However, if it was a massive retcon that did very serious damage, then I'd have a problem. Also, considering Chao naturally do not have any gender-specific traits, it makes sense to give them these nonspecific pronouns. Adds more mystery. Probably needless, but whatever
Sonic and Tails being bros was quite nice.
There was a MASSIVE debate on Discord a while back as to who this guy is. Some argue that it is starline because of the shape of the boots, what appears to be Starline's hollow spur, and the possibility of one particular gimmick from a certain game.
I thought it would be Mimic because he is a shapeshifter and would have incentive to get even with him if he didn't delete his profile from Eggman's systems. But, I am inclined to believe its him. Especially since Bad Guys issue 2 and Issue 34 release on November 4th. In fact, both sagas are to wrap up before Christmas.
TL; DR? The comic has a very solid start. Evan has definitely proven herself G.O.T.F. or otherwise. Also, I really hope SEGA authorizes the possibilty of exploring the Multiverse. They have to do that at some point, acknowledge the material existing in conjunction with one another, and material that came before it. They will change some things, sure, but that may be why the Encyclo-Speedia is being penned by Ian Flynn. So we may FINALLY get continuity

Yes, I've seen what that mysterious character in the base with Sonic and Tails is and It's the main reason I'm excited about this arc as they are based on a certain fairytale character I like and is something I've been wanting to see in the Sonic series for a long time and I can't praise Evan Stanley enough for designing them and making it happen. I loved the chao racing part though I don't see why children aren't allowed to races chao's racing should be for all ages. As for this new character Clutch I don't trust him and think he might cause trouble throughout the arc. As for the hooded figure, I''m pretty sure it's Dr.Starline with some new power he obtained in the spinoff Bad Guys Comic or one of his experiments from the test tubes. I guess we'll find out as the story continues.

So I have a theory on who the hooded figure is. Spoilers for the preview for Bad Guys #2 and Sonic #37’s B Cover
I think it’s Dr. Starline, in Bad Guys #2’s preview we see Starline mention orbs that enhance the physical prowess of someone just by touching them and they apply to Speed, Fly and Power same as the hooded figure uses at the end of the issue. We also see what appears to be three orbs in Starline’s gauntlet in the Sonic 37 B cover so he may have obtained them. Also Rogue knows who the hooded figure is, which makes sense as she would have recognized Dr. Starline from her time aboard the Faceship. Idk if it actually works and I may have missed some details but I think it could be logical. Thoughts?

... you do know that classic sonic is now from another dimension because sonic generations made two timelines... right? Like one time line is the normal timeline while the other one is where after sonic 3(and knuckles) sonic generations happened and made a timeline where classic sonic interacted with his future self this making mania... right?
Well, that sounds fine. But here is the problem. SEGA never actually bothered to confirm and explain the split timeline theory in Forces or interviews. If they are going to make a retcon that big, wouldn't it have made complete sense to give some kind of explanation to erase the confusion from fans? This doesn't seem to be the kind of decision to leave fans to figure out.
The theory honestyl feels like fans trying to cover up SEGA's stupid mistakes rather than coming to terms that they messed that up.

This was a REALLY good issue! Its nice to have something slow and easy after the Last Arc. It's a nice change, can't wait for next issue!

Also, the only characters who can mimic powers that I can think of are Emerl (Who’s Dead), Metal Sonic, and mayyybbeee Mimic (But I don’t think so)

I'm pretty sure Mimic can only copy appearances, not abilities; if he could, he wouldn't be so scared of Eggman, now would he?

I hope Hoody’s real identity isn’t just Starline in a coat like what most people think after seeing future covers of the bad guys mini series.(Hoody is temp name for mystery character). Personal, I want to see someone like Nack the Weasel or the Tails’ doll in that coat. For my reasoning, Nack has history in criminal behavior and with Eggman so he has reason to be involved with an Eggman tech black market salesmen, and for the Tails’ Doll theory, he himself is old Eggman tech so it makes sense Clutch would have one/him in his collection and due to the Tails’ Doll being made as more of an intelligent infiltration type of bot so he would need the multi-color power up to be an effective bodyguard. I know my guesses are kinda out there and it more than likely Starline related, at the very least I hope it’s one of his test tube bots instead of him himself so we get an idea of the kinds of creations Starline is capable of making.
I too believe it could be Nack as well. He's a game character and he SHOULD be in this, just like the rest of the Hooligans, Mighty, and Ray. With his history, and also once being an Eggman lackey, he would be perfect. It would be Starline related, or it could be a new character. We will have to wait and see.
Mighty, Ray, and the Hooligans are deemed "Classic Sonic only" characters by Sega.

It’s possible. I mean, a few prototypes of the characters COULD become their own, if Sega allowed it. Or not, I’m not really sure who’s in charge when it comes to matters like that, but it would be cool to see Terios.

@@patrickadams1523 His origine is pretty similar to Shadow because he was created by Gerald Robotnik to be the ultimate life form and he also saw Maria die but he did not have the time to escape from the Ark with Shadow, so he was force to live with G.U.N, after Shadow "die" in SA2, the boss of G.U.N leave Terios go away, he was homeless for a while and trying to find a place where he can live, the only personne who leave him live in her house was Vanilla because she needed someone to babyssite Cream for when she is gone (it take place before Sonic Advance 3 so Gemerold was not ther yet but when he was ther, he still stay her house, playing video games in his room and playing with Cream and Gemerold), when Sonic force happend, Terios was going to join the resistence but they did not choose him and he run away from Cream's house when the Metal virus arc started, he go hide in Sunset city and he got infected but onlike Shadow, he did not turn into a Zombot because he can't get sick.

Why get in a little fuss over a chao that looks like shadow.
As for the black arms I personally see a lot of potential with a story with them in and shadow. I think archie did pretty well with them with the introduction of eclipse basically a character introduced if shadow fully embraced this race of bloodthirsty conquerors I think they can be interesting if used well.

i'm not throwing a fuss, i just dislike the idea of black arms in general, i find them to be a wholly unnecessary addition to shadow's backstory that nobody asked for, and i don't feel like getting into a whole argument about why i think so.

Personally I don't like throwing concepts away if they have potential for more stories like similar to how I feel about how dragonball brought broly back but better. Besides we need more sonic stories where we actively go into outerspace for a adventure and I don't mean as a boss fight or close to the planet like colors. I mean full blown space adventure

i don't feel the black arms really had potential in the first place, literally everything sonic team used them to explain about shadow or the ark was either already explained or could be explained easily using existing lore, y'know?
meh, i prefer my sonic to be more down to earth (not really fond of all the dbz-esque universe busters the series started introducing for literally no reason) personally, but that's just my preference, not so much something i consider a flaw or something, either way, i don't think you need to turn one of the characters into an alien to have the characters venture into space.
@@alimowla3204 true but I would like to see more space stories since we have had plenty of earth based stories for sonics. I think their are some thematic stuff about shadow being part alien that makes it interesting since one of things i did like about shadow the hedgehog game was the stuff involving shadow relationship with that black doom and despite him giving shadow his genes it was the professor who was his true father. Was it absolutely neccessary to make him part alien debatable but I think their are interesting things to explore involving shadow ties with the dark arms. Weather you think they should be part of shadow orgins is more up to personal preference. As i said the archie comics did interesting stuff with the dark arms I like. Personally I see potential in them especially for shadow and giving him more villians outside of sonic's rogues.

Just a quick comment, but the Chao genderless thing isn't actually a retcon. It's something that came from the localization only. In the Japanese version of the games, Cheese and Chocola were never given pronouns because the japanese language doesn't have pronouns. The localizers just assumed for the both of them which is what lead to the misconception starting. Something similar happened with NiGHTS who is also genderless, but got referred to as a he in the localization but was later fixed (bonus that Chao are based off of the Nightopians from that series). It is curious that the change wasn't enforced until this issue though like you said, maybe Sega didn't notice until now.

Apparently, the fact that Shadows hunting down the dangerous madman that almost destroyed the world, that SONIC let get away scot-free, and the fact that Shadow seems to be the only one concerned about this psychopath striking again at any moment doesn't seem to make it better for a lot of people either. So as usually do i want to also leave my opinion here.
But before I can actually talk about the issue in detail do I have to address the Elephant in the Room that shows it self in most parts of this story.
CAN WE PLEASE NOT IGNORE THE FACT THAT WE JUST HAD 2 APOCALYPSES HAPPEN!?
Like serious we had at best a few weeks of peace between Forces, its aftermath and the Metal Virus arc. And yet we have stuff like the white park being fully opened as if nothing happened, a shady guy that has tons of Eggman tech despite Eggman not to long ago taking over 99.9% of the world meaning all of it would have ether fallen in his hands or were forcefully acquired by Knuckles as his resistance needed all the support it could need,
Its completely unbelievable that this much large scale infrastructure were still around. Having all the small so far unaffected villages in the last 2 arcs were already a stretch but this just pushes it way WAY to far.
Seriously if it wasn't for Omega being still a mess after Zombot Shadow wreaked him could this happen as if no game since Lost world would have happened really. The World building here is an catastrophe.
ESPECIALLY given that we had 4 issues of Forces fallout and needed an organization like the Restauration to bring everything back together.
While I will complain about a few other continuity hiccups in this issue is this one so big and omni-present in this story that I couldn't leaved it unaddressed.
So now for the actual story lets start with something mostly Positive that being Sonic and Tails.
There have a great dynamic here and really feel like brothers and there actual plotline is so far rather good (even if the whole Tails needs this and that to fix Omega seams odd given that he (even if delayed) fixed him in Forces(because without understanding how Omega works couldn't Tails possibly fix him up) and has most of Omega's body that Eggman rebuild to work on)
With the girls I have a few more problems lets go throw them 1 by 1.
Amy: Remember the whole I will complain about continuity well here it comes Amy is in this right back to well I guess Unleashed Amy. This doesn't really fit at all with what we have seen of Amy in this book so far from the more mature out lock she had to her not wanting to go into a adventure into an Eggman base with Sonic when she was ecstatic about it back when she and Sonic headed out to Echo mine (and was almost giving into the temptation when Sonic offered to go in dangerous and action filled adventures with him in issue 2). Which is also why I said "Unleashed Amy" as its pretty much the only game that has a overly Sonic loving but not adrenalin hungry Amy.
Also Amy to leave Cream alone with Rouge really? After she back than in battled tried to kidnap Emerl.
Rouge: Not much negative to say here she was perfectly in character and rather fun to read and its one of the nicer takes on her which I like (even if there attempt to go undercover here were pathetic at best but I guess that is a Sega not allowing her to actually change up the make up problem)
Cream: My biggest grip with her really goes back to my first point about the previous story arc not mattering at all as after all that happened especially when Cream saved Vanilla from Zavok and stout up to him did it change nothing how Vanilla treats Cream in nether a "must protect more so that never happens again" nor a "Cream is far more mature and ready to handle her self that I ever gave her credit for" kind of way.
But I have a far smaller nitpick as well that being when Rouge pretended Cheese was her chao. You see I get that Cream would hate Rouge lying about it BUT I don't find it reasonable that Cream wouldn't understand WHY she did it Cream is quite often shown as far more understanding than a regular 6 year old (and even 6 year old's in general would understand it in this case really) so while I can see her disapproving of it I can't really see her not understanding why Rouge did it.
And finally Cheese (don't worry I have a few words to say to Shadow but he isn't quite part of that group yet):
Why are he (and yes I will he/him pronounce as the game did this for the last 18 years as well and I don't care about Sega's revisionist history)and Cream always played down to much power wise in these comics. Please remember in this continuity did Sonic heroes, Sonic battle and Sonic advance 2 and 3 all happened as well as all 3 riders games and in all is Cheese and absolute powerhouse able to keep up with some of the fastest characters in the series, flying sky high and even destroying Eggman's WARMACHINES like there are wet paper. So why is he ones again played down like that here.
Listen I know its to build up tension and fit as much of the games Chao race mechanic in here as easter eggs ut let me give you all an example.
Lets say instead of a Chao Race this was a normal foot Race Sonic R style and it would be Sonic against a bunch of random no bodies and to show up all of Sonic arcs shortcuts, drifting, and items would Sonic have a tough time against the competition and would need to relay on the aforementioned Game references to win

Now as the extra one here Shadow: Lets make it quite this is Sonic Battle shadow if I have ever seen him which doesn't make a lot of sense given that the end of his story in Sonic Battle pretty much had him accept that he was in the wrong for his approach so him going back to that as well as him not caring for Fixing Omega especially in the wake of him and his error of judgment leading to the damaged state of Omega in the first place all seam really out of Character.
I hope we get a proper correction on that end but so far is Shadow pretty meh at best (and him suddenly appearing on a road doesn't really makes for the more nature introduction ether)
I so far don't have a lot of other thigns to say beside that the implication about the hooded figure being connected to the upcoming Bad Guys story and an especially dumb element it wasn't to introduce being less than stellar and the obviously Evil underworld Boss being so far really bland and generic.
The Art style shift is also rather apparent not bad mind you far more colorful i guess and inviting which suits what apparels to be a rather lighthearted arc way better than the style we had before but it also furthers the disconnect between this issue and literally everything that happened so far already in the story.

PLOT TWITST! some of clutch's men were working for the resistance, and by the time the war was over and everyone was distracted with repairing the world, his men took back all the eggman equipment that the resistance took.

this just makes me think tails can't be two things at once, if he's being super smart he's a coward, if he's being brave, he's not as intelligent as before, actually that would explain everything now that i think about it.
i mean, amy in sonic rush seemed more preoccupied with searching for sonic and forcing blaze to try and work with him rather than trying to get in on the action herself, and if not that, i _highly_ doubt sonic unleashed is the first story where amy was disinterested in adventure knowing sonic team's shitty writing, heck, i'd say 06 is also a game where she's disinterested in adventure, since other than helping silver and elise, she seems more interested in finding sonic than actually going on an adventure to stop eggman, now that i think about it after rescuing elise, she doesn't even attempt to finally track down sonic for good and fight against eggman, she just sorta fucks off from the story until the last story.
i like how rouge is supposed to be this top secret spy, but her face, boob size, and skin color is all exposed for the world to see and possibly track her down at one point.
i mean, people also joke about big being god and he's also not portrayed, so i don't think the writers would jeopardize the story for the sake of memes, they only use them for jokes, as for cheese himself, i don't know, maybe he got here when he was hungry and thus not working at maximum power.

i would just like to point out i brought up this theory first, before the issue 2 of bad guys came out, and i demand 60% credit.
I think it's pretty much implied that Amy's personality was only suppressed this whole time; she only acted the way she did before because she knew she had to. Knuckles disbanded the resistance, so she felt obligated to act as organizer for the restoration. However, as Knuckles implied, she kinda bit off more than she could chew. I mean, at the beginning of issue 31, she looked like she was about to bawl, outright. She even admitted she was no leader (at least not at that scale), and you yourself kept pointing out that she was making one bad leader decision after another. When Jewel offered to take her place, Amy just bubbled over with relief, like root beer being poured into a glass. Now that she can finally relax, she's probably had enough musty and abandoned Eggman bases filled with rusty badniks to last a while. Honestly, I'd say this is a step in the right direction; having Amy with a balance of mature and childish traits is having her at her best, if you ask me.
Also, you keep pointing out that Cream and Cheese can take care of themselves, yet now you're concerned about Amy leaving her alone with Rouge?
Lastly, let's be fair, Shadow is the only one who IS acknowledging the "elephant in the room"! He wants to bring Eggman to justice for starting a war and a pandemic/zombie apocalypse! Honestly, I'd be ticked off with my friends and allies too if none of them cared that there was a global mad science terrorist running loose in the world! Yes, Omega wants to destroy Eggman, and he'd be of big help to Shadow if he was operational again. Still, I don't think Shadow wants to wait that long; and honestly, I don't blame him. Eggman just did his worst and intends to out do it still; and we've seen how hasty he's gotten and how much more dangerous and unstable his plans are as a result! Every minute could be one minute closer to too late! Shadow's doing what no one else is doing; he's being preemptive! He's trying to find Eggman and bring him down before the unstable, psychotic Doctor can bring about another global disaster! He may not be doing very well, but at least he's trying. Sonic, on the other hand, could have captured Eggman then and there at Spiral Village and had him thrown in prison; but instead, he let him get away as if it was just Sonic 1 all over again! Sonic ought to be arrested for aiding in Eggman's escape! Yes, any of the others could have done something, but lest's be honest; Sonic's the one carrying most of the weight around here! Almost every hero and civilian is following by his example, and he's leading them all straight off a cliff that even he can't see! Shadow, though he may be acting a bit rude, is ultimately concerned about the greater good, if you ask me.
alright, i just read the script to sonic and blaze's story in rush (fuck you for compelling to do that by the way) and yup, she doesn't want to go with cream and blaze to find the sol emeralds, she makes no attempt to go after cream and blaze after talking to knuckles, she doesn't try to go with blaze and cream after her attempt at convincing blaze to ask sonic for help doesn't work, and she doesn't bother to run after sonic and tails after telling them where blaze went, need i remind you this game takes place after sa2, heroes, and battle, where she should be more than capable of catching up to them, but she doesn't do that, because she's more interested in sonic than adventuring in this game.
so the final verdict is, _yes_ sonic rush is the first sonic game where she's not interested in going on an adventure, _not_ unleashed, who at the very least isn't obnoxiously annoying.
PS: also, cream just calls amy shortsighted, she doesn't say anything about amy thinking she's sonic's girlfriend (amy says this but not cream), yet amy still pulls a hammer on cream, what a fucking bitch!

Which could be because unused dialogue implies that quite a bit of her involvement in the story was actually cut (especially her referring to Iblis Monsters)

As for Cream maybe I got it mixed up with something different or maybe it was a rewrite in the German version (like how in Advance 3 there completely changed her motivation to join the adventure). The only thing that I do know is that I won't replay all of Sonic Rush just to find out.

See using Big as an example here is literally the worst thing you could have done as I already had to complain twice about how to make a lame as "I MUST FIND FROGGY!" joke there jeopardized stories with one being Big in the second annual which had him way to oblivious to the problems his friend Amy was having and the recent fight with Eggman over the last 2 issues as he again way to concerned to find Froggy rather than helping his friends and the town to not die to Eggman' latest mech which all of this ignoring that Froogy as SA1's Big story Ending showed Froggy is actually bigs friend that likes to hang out with him. And with Cheese do we have at least 1 in Story example of Cheese being a force to be reckon with with Cream and Cheese VS Chaos Gamma in Sonic battle.
I mean even SONIC X of all things got this right with Cheese both times he actually got to fight doing pretty well (together with Cream trashing Emerl and taking out a Metarex in one hit).
So I stand that just like with Sonic being slowed down to drama with no reason for the slow down given this is bad and if your story requires it should you ether have put the work into justify it ether by A:like you suggested use an actual Chao racing mechanic and have Cheese be super tiered or hungry or B: By having the competition cheat in a way like giving Cheese prior to the run a poisoned fruit or something. And if you absolutely don't want to give a reason than don't write this story in such away that something so dumb is required in the first place.

But as I already suggested otherwise do I almost expect him to only be here to become the care taker of the Dark Running Chao after he/it losses to Cheese and gets abandon by his owner for being worthless.
Also a fun fact I recently learned in Sonic CD's Sega Mega CD loading screen that appears between levels that shows all of little planet can Tails actually appear in the Tornado just to further attack the whole CD comes before 2 because Tails argument.

I thing there are a few problems with your argument so let me explain why I thing so okay.
Starting with Amy
So the problem here is that this whole things started already in the Metal Sonic arc when Amy was introduced into the Book. The first problem that comes form here and it furthered by Eggman excitement to go into the Echo mines with Sonic is that what Amy is actively suppressing is her want to just be a free roaming Hero that is in constant action like Sonic so even when Amy when going with Sonic into the Echo mines for ones could show her true self was it one that wouldn't do anything rather than to go with Sonic into an action filled adventure in an old abandon Eggman base. So her find the idea to go with Sonic on an adventure into an old Eggman base to which he invites her breaks even what we have seen of the normal Amy under the leader shell so far. So that already doesn't make a lot of sense.
And than would there be the point that Amy was already like this in the first story arc in which Knuckles was still the official leader and it was even emphasized how Amy was actually already running the whole thing throughout Forces as Knuckles was to incompetent. And in issue 31 does Amy now claim the exact opposite which really reveals the true reason for the sudden change as Ian was in his last 2 issue Rushing to get Amy back to her pre Forces self after spending 1 arc building her up as an capable leader that hold the Resistance together in Forces and was in large part responsable for the victory against Metal Sonic to have her than fill the originally for Sally planed role in his 7 year old up to this point unused Archie Sonic story. So all of the going back in issues 31-32 was already an issue with is made worse by than going an even bigger step to go to Sonic Unleashed Amy in this issue that also lacks the aforementioned love for Adventures especially together with Sonic that was shown as the most dominant part that she was suppressing. to be a leader.
My issue here isn't that this isn't a good fit for Amy (even if I personally dislike the removal of her adventure loving side) but that with all that happened over the span of the first 2 story arcs its just doesn't make sense to go back to such a cheerfully ,upbeat and girly Amy.
While yes I do I thing I mostly pointed it out here because earlier was Amy unconfutable with dragging Cream and Cheese into this in the first place. So while I thing Cream and Cheese should be able to take care of them self against most normal enemies does Amy's previous behavior make it kind of weird that now she wouldn't better take care of Cream and Cheese (especially given that Rouge and Amy don't have the best relationship even if I'm completely willing to believe that there relationship over the 6 months of fighting a war together improved drastically)
While you are right that Shadow is at least still on the right side and that all other Characters are dumb beyond believe for letting Eggman live especially last issue do I still have a pretty big problem here.
For one as I already pointed out did Shadow already fall flat on his face with this behavior in both Sonic battle and just recently against the Zombots so him still not having learned his lesson (after having learned it in Sonic battle already and pointing out that this behavviour screwed him over against the Zombots just 2 Issues ago ) is dumb in my opinion.
BUT there is also secondly which is that Shadow didn't even care when there mentioned that there were looking for spare parts for Omega which should have imminently tip him off that there are both lookin for the same guy.
So I hope you can understand my points better now as I despite my best efforts can sometimes still really screw explain my self up.

The Tails Doll is canon to the Classic Sonic Universe, but we won’t be seeing it appear in IDW Sonic because Ian Flynn, his team and IDW Publishing don’t have legal access to the Classic Sonic characters. Also, Ian Flynn explained that Sonic Team wants the two continuities, the Classic and Modern Sonic Universes, to be separate from each other, not mixed together like how it was done under the Archie Sonic umbrella, which led to a great deal of continuity confusions since Classic Amy, Classic Tails, Classic Knuckles, Classic Dr. Robotnik, Mighty, Ray, Metal Knuckles, and Honey the Cat all belong in the Classic Sonic Universe and not in the Modern Sonic Universe. Ian Flynn also said that he also prefers to keep the two universes separate as it helps to keep the stability of the two continuities in place and prevent confusions of the canon from Sonic Team. He said that the light-heartedness should stay with the Classic Sonic Universe and the heavy, dangerous deep elements and plot lines should stay with the Modern Sonic Universe.
