I toured former 44th President of the United States Obama's former child hood elementary school and house in Jakarta located in Menteng area.
He lived here for four years in Indonesia in the late 1960's with his mom and Indonesian stepfather and half sister.

President Obama's mother in fact was one of professor in Indonesia. She lived in Jogja until the 90s and her Javanese language was a very good one my uncle often said. He said that president Obama's mother was wearing sanggul and kebaya

Even though it was only 4 years in that school, Indonesian culture made a strong impression on Obama, he was friendly, kind and polite.

My husband was Obama's classmates in menteng..he was the first kid that Obama's met in the school since my husband was born in New York and he can speak in English so the headmaster chose him to bring Obama to the class and to be Obama's first friend. When Obama was still a president we received a Christmas card from Obama.
