So sad today, I live in Memphis and it's been a sad week, Lisa Marie dying....but she will soon be with her dad, once again Memphis is dealing with death of the people who make Memphis what it is.....
The emotion in this song and the way Crosby sings it come from a profound and dark place. It was inspired by an event that for some of us of a certain age was one of the most terrible events in a year filled with terrible events. Crosby wrote this on the night Bobby Kennedy was shot to death in 1968.
Farewell David. Thank you for punctuating our wonderous musical years, we children of the 60's...at least we left behind something greater than before: the music...
*Long Time Gone* _Song by Crosby, Stills & Nash_ It's been a long time comin' It's goin' to be a long time gone. Appears to be a long time, Yes, a long, long, log time Before the dawn. Turn, turn any corner. Hear, you must hear what the people say, You know there's something that's goin' on here, That surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day. And it appears to be a long, Such a long, long, long time before the dawn. Speak out, you got to speak out against The madness, you got to speak your mind, If you dare. But don't try to get yourself elected. If you do you had better cut your hair. 'Cause it appears to be a long time, Before the dawn. It's been a long time comin', It's been a long time gone. But you know, the darkest hour, Is always just before the dawn. And it appears to be a long time, Such a long, long, long time before the dawn.
I saw them twice, too. The first time in 1977 (?) at Madison Square Garden and ten years later at the old Brendan Byrne Arena in beautiful Rutherford, NJ. I recall that Graham Nash said at that second concert that it was a miracle that David Crosby was still with us performing so well. I’m glad that Mr. Crosby continued to perform so exceptionally for many years after then. Requiem aeternam, Mr. Crosby.
This is a timeless tune that genius David C.!wrote. I have loved CS&N ever since I saw their very first performance which was Woodstock. They are amazing, David is amazing. I’ve never heard harmonics like this. David’s voice is so bluesy and strong. I love it. I might add that Stephen Stills is a very underrated guitarist. Stephen is incredible with the guitar. How did this go unnoticed, it’s crazy to meCS&N have given us sone of the most memorable and coolest tunes ever. Mourning your passing but celebrating your awesome life, you are very deserving of your great success David. Not saying goodbye but rather, see ya later. Rest easy friend, you are adored loved and will be sadly missed. Thank you for all the incredible tunes.🙏🕊💕🙏🕊💕🙏🕊💕🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I have been blessed to see different incarnations of these fine singers. I have seen Steven Stills solo, Crosby and Nash together, CS&N and also their buddy Neil Young solo. They are still amazing!
I’m reading Graham Nash‘s story “wild tales“, and he just mentioned that David Crosby wrote this song for Bobby Kennedy… Amazing man, nothing like David Crosby. He will be missed, and nobody makes music like these guys . Nobody.
Thank you, thank you for your contributions to MUSIC! God Bless each of you! You guys are in my blood, mind, and soul. Peace and long live Rock and whatever makes you roll.
This was them at the peak. Crosby (for once) is not totally fucked up. Stills is my magic man of guitar. It really doesn't get better than this. SPEAK OUT.
Don't know who listens to music, but history, here done, will never cease, without rock& roll gives no reason to breathe...at the Moment am 73 yrs , groovin' 58yrs...chuggin' ....
This is one of my favorite songs by Crosby, its bluesy and soulful, and of course I always love to harmonize to it...So many ways you can harmonize to this song....Its fabulous!
My late partner and I had the privilege to see CSN twice here in Western Australia . 1986 and early 2000s. I'm 74 now. Just pure talent, no pathetic dance moves, no technological enhancement, just great musicians who knew their instruments and who could actually sing.
Great song written by these three very talented guys in response to the Kennedy assassinations. They wrote it the night Bobby was killed. In the liner notes for the 1991 box set Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Crosby wrote: "It was written the night Bobby Kennedy was killed. I believed in him because he said he wanted to make some positive changes in America, and he hadn't been bought and sold like Johnson and Nixon - cats who made their deals years ago with the special interests in this country in order to gain power. I thought Bobby, like his brother, was a leader who had not made those deals. I was already angry about Jack Kennedy getting killed and it boiled over into this song when they got his brother, too." If you listen to the lyrics, it is clear what they were writing about.
I was a senior at the University of Wisconsin, and campaigning for Robert Kennedy. I’d been to Indiana and Nebraska and would have been with him in California if I didn’t have my final finals in Madison! That few days completely changed the direction of my life!
R.I.P DAVID CROSBY. Thank you for your words and music. We all Love you Thank you. "All most cut my hair it happened just the other day It was getting kind of long"
Far out! Going to go see David in a couple of weeks doing his solo show. Should be a great night. Am looking forward to seeing him & hearing his sweet vocals.
I was so happy to see them at Paris 's OLYMPIA a few months ago (september, 28th)! They were , still are and, I guess, will remain my favorite group forever . Thank you for this post!
I LOVE these guys!! Always have and still do. All three are alive and well and what I would do to see them again!!! I understand they are not talking to each other. I respect their personal choices and pass no judgment. There comes a time when one has to sever a relationship with another. I have done it and no one needs to understand the why. BUT if only they could come together and play for us!!! Do you think they can keep the emotion out of it and find a way to play together? Like have separate backstage areas, stay out of each other's way, then come on stage and get down to business??? Wishful thinking
One of the best songs written by David Crosby. RIP Mr. Crosby, you were one of the greatest.
My favorite among the many great songs DC wrote and co-wrote.
Rest in peace Crosby. This song will always be one of my favorites
So sad today, I live in Memphis and it's been a sad week, Lisa Marie dying....but she will soon be with her dad, once again Memphis is dealing with death of the people who make Memphis what it is.....
Deeply grateful for the musical legacy he left behind💔
No Gimmicks No fancy lights No choreography! Just pure raw rock n roll. Probably one of Still's best solo's. CSN are simply out of this world.
Great performers (artists) don't need gimmicks, thank God.
We can't call it rock and roll, I'd say
RIP David Crosby. 1-19-2023. A great loss to the world of music. A great loss to my generation and to me. A sad day.
Rest in peace to David Crosby. A pillar of 60's counterculture, and incredible musician with an iconic voice.

When these guys pass, a small part of America will pass with them. Absolute perfection.
Absolutely
The music we've grown up with, and never to be forgotten.

And today we lose one of them. So sad. RIP David Crosby
Always awesome. Crosby keeps the freak flag flying. One of the coolest cats to hit the stage. Best band ever.
David Crosby is my fave in the band.
I agree. The best
Passed away today 1/19/23
I rock my hair just like his ! Never cutting , grow the side and let it ride
The music many of us grew up with, and it is timeless. RIP David Crosby, and thank you.
LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM back in the early70s during summer days when nothing else to do.
What a fantastic song. Great lead by Stills. Crosby has a huge voice, wow! Fantastic guys. All CS and N. songs had MOOD and EMOTION.
My soul is broken for him and his family. But he left the world a better place. Ultimate fan, loved his music.
Goodbye David Crosby. Thanks for the music. 2023
Farewell David. Thank you for punctuating our wonderous musical years, we children of the 60's...at least we left behind something greater than before: the music...
Thanks for the Memories David. A True Icon of American Music. RIP -- P.S. Stills and Nash as old guys aren't bad either LOL
For all that these guys have grown apart, they sure as hell put it aside to make some of the most beautiful music ever. The harmonies are to die for.

RIP David! Your music still lives on!
I love David’s voice in this song.
Gritty and powerful ❤
Saw them twice always amazed how they could get 50,000 people to go silent. Acoustic Time Amazing.
I saw them twice also. The only two perfect concerts I've ever been to. 1977 and 1982.

Requiem aeternam, Mr. Crosby.
A large part of America, you mean.
David Crosby, you may be gone, but your music will be forever in the hearts of the baby boomer generation. 🙏 🪦.
Crosby hasn't lost a bit of his voice in 50 years! Fantastic vocals!
This is still relevant today. I remember being young when I hear this. I'm grateful to them for the talent that lasts.
RIP David Crosby
I loved Crosby Stills Nash and Young
The music of my youth.
Much Love to you ❤
Brother David, still on top of my list of coolest hippies in history. You'll never be forgotten!
