52 years ago today May 4th 1970 , never forget !
I hear this song and I think back to that day at Kent State where I lost all my wide-eyed innocents about America. I was never the same.
And its getting worse and worse all the time. And the whole world pays the consequences... Stay well.
Best Harmony & Songwriter
DAVID. CROSBY 🎤 ☮️ 👍
anyone else's mind blown that a high school band is performing a protest song from the late sixties about four students being gunned down by the national guard. there is always still hope! ken burns Vietnam has a great section about the tragedy.
They were four students that the military men slaughtered, indeed.
I bet most of the students don’t understand what the song is about. -- Susan
Not just a “woman” , ignorant
And, some of the national guards were as young as the students
It was 4 killed on 04 May 1970 at Kent State University in Ohio.
I'm the little girl playing snare drum in the front, haha! Was such an incredible night and experience. Such an honor. Never seen this video before! Thank you SO much for posting!!
Wow you re so afortunate, you played whith one of the best!!! Beatyull song,n beautyfull performance. Amazing!!!
you got to play on stage with David. so awesome.
Well done you, they don’t make tunes like that anymore ✌️
Wow. Great.
WHAT! You where there? Our band went to Disney for a day. I was saying what lucky kids and hey were you guys taught about Kent State?
I was a student in the crowd on the Kent State campus on May 4, 1970. This song and seeing these kids so involved means so much to me. When I hear Ohio I am brought back to that day and the sad loss of my fellow students... but this rendition sounds joyful and this is how I want to feel from now on. I am joyful that I got to live another 51 years (so far.)
Blessings. Stay well.
We're the same age, Andrea. (My aunt and uncle lived in Kent so I was there many times over the years. My uncle could only talk about half the kids not even being from Kent State, blah, blah.) I feel exactly as you do! Such a celebratory rendition; those violins and horns! The drums!
I was just a kid when this happened but these events made me who I am today. This song always makes me tear up... how could it not? Four kids are dead for no reason just as the song decries. Four dead in Ohio. And nobody ever paid for this dereliction of duty.
I lived in Kent then, across the street from campus. My father was a PhD student there at the time. I remember that day so vividly. This song always rings back so many memories...
In Australia this song galvanised many young people against the Vietnam War.
Whoever came up the the idea of using all those kids was a genius. It enhanced the entire performance and created memories for those kids that will follow them the rest of their lives. I lived through Kent State and never thought I'd see the like again and then we saw what happened on the streets of Portland, Oregon.
@@cruisinusa5110 Yeah, cuz that 'war on drugs' has been such a national success. Using policing to fix drug addiction is like only using amputation to fight cancer; it works sometimes but, in general, makes it just makes matters worse.
Is out there anyone listening to this Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young absolute classic with me in 2020?
And 2021

Listening and never forgotten !
David Crosby passed away few hours ago
The legendary singer/Songwriter stays great parts of Musical history
Hope those young people will carry on his music many many decades to come
Crosby passed yesterday. I felt the need to hear the Ohio song. So beautifully played but the innocent lives lost that day at Kent State University still have me asking "why". May Crosby and the victims of this senseless tragedy rest in peace.
I was reading a biography of Gov. Rhodes and there was no mention of the Kent State tragedy. Like it never happened. Sad!!!!
That really is sad. We need to be the story tellers of the truth. @@beckyprice5061
And LBJ and Nixon should be in hell for their actions in this catastrophic war!
RIP David Crosby! Thanks for the music.
RIP David Crosby! Here to listen to your beautiful voice. What a marvelous, powerful version of this song.
Best version of Ohio , ever . Tears in the eyes of this old man . Unbelievably great stuff ! Many thanks , Michael
Me, too.
Agreed . Sitting here with tears but ok . Seeing the kids and their passion and David doing his thing just hit my heart . Best version , ever , you are right .
yep, moved me. Same as when 1st heard 45 years ago.
I cannot stop crying every time I hear this version of Neil’s incredible song! Seeing all those kids singing & playing instruments so powerfully is inspirational and gives me hope. Thank you, David for organizing this wonderful event! And thank you Neil for writing such an incredible song.
Best version of this song that I have heard.😀😀😀😀 THanks Neil Young for writing it. Thanks CSNY for the song. Rest in peace David.
This is the most stunning and powerful version of the song I've ever heard -- including the original.
What drives the power home for me is that -- all those young musician kids whose parents were kids when the killings took place REALLY got into it. I'm depressed at how history-starved kids are today. This brings me hope; this history came alive for and with those kids. This concert was 7 years ago; they're all gonna be voting come November. Let's see if this made a difference to them.
Wonderful sentiments, Dave Kraft!
Dear God, l hope so!
DaveKraft1 I completely agree it is one of the powerful versions of this song Ive heard.
This really is a great version. I posted on my facebook yesterday. The reality is we are still fighting the same MF's today.
TY, David Kraft for your lovely comment...our family has had the privilege of living in this small town for almost 50 years, seeing these talented young people in action...three of our godchildren have graduated from Malbu HS and gone on to use their talents as successful young adults; I LOVE this video because our youngest godson is one of those talented drummers on that stage, and, he recently completed European tour with his own band as their drummer 🥰
Thank you, Neil Young, for this masterpiece! Great job, David, on this song!
Agreed
A very dark day in American history. Forever immortalized in this song written by Neil Young and performed by CSNY. I still have the 45. Epic performance here. Thanks for sharing.
David worked very hard at giving back during the second half of his life to try and mend the wrongs of his past. Thank you for your service David ❤️🩹
yes, ehe certainly did.
RIP to legend David Crosby, your music gave generations a lifetime of love and appreciation for humanity
I remember this song when it was brand new. Turbulent times. A song for the ages.
Great performance, I am an army vet and singer and artist, my father was a WW2 vet, avoid wars at all cost!
With the passing of David Crosby I salute the man who inspired so many till the end!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Powerful, beautiful, tragic, real. It speaks…ever so deeply!
Wonderful to hear younger people understanding and “diggin” this anthem from so long ago.
Yessssss!! I'm just an old hippie but I know good music. We were all hurt and angry about what happened at Kent State. And I do hope these kids knew they were performing with some of the greats .
RIP David Crosby! You were amazing!
I saw Neil live on 9 -19 -19 and he did this song. When he played the first chords on his Falcon it was a powerful moment. I was 8 years old, living in Ohio in 1970 and I still have vivid memories of when this happened at Kent St.
The lead guitar guy crushes it. Amazing performance by everyone!
I was 17years lost in the lost world 🌎 heard this song 🎵 on the short wave receiver, I never looked back. R I P David Crosby thank you for the music from South Africa 🇿🇦
Is this Rajen from Durban? This is Mary M from Seattle!!
OMG How amazing for David, The band Venice to play this with the school and the band and young people. PRICELESS!!!!
The most legendary moment for those kids and the audience, hell for ALL involved including us watching it!! Love you David Crosby!!! EPIC!
This song impacted me I was twelve years old .seven years later this damn war was still going on.god bless our vets.
Absolutely BRILLIANT! what a wonderful version of this Incredibly powerful song! Great to see all those young people enjoying it too.I hope they understood its meaning..
That audience has no idea of how legendary this is, awesome!
Mmmm...looks to me like the audience DOES have a pretty good idea.
I bet they know about it now !
Most of them were out of their seats smiling and clapping and seemingly in awe. I think many of them knew it was a very special performance of a timeless song.
Yes they do! Someone obviously told them NOT to stand up during the performance! & they obviously complied!
What a STOOPID STATEMENT.....
I am an avid fan of CSN+Y especially NY but this has to be the best version I've heard!
Rock on Croz!
To have that many musicians playing together and sounding really great is freaking amazing!
Brought a tear to my eyes..
Thanks for posting…✌🏼
Never, ever get tired of this song - what a great performance - so much feeling!!
RIP David, you left your mark on this earth
First time listening to this, phenomenal audio/video of David Crosby w/orchestra! Hard to believe this sounds so awesome, absolutely stunning.
Great for kids to experience being a part of and expressing their voice and gifts
True community and mutual resource
Beautiful and powerful
True mentoring!
WOW .... This is even better than the original in it's power to make me shiver and dry my mouth out. STUNNING.
This gem of a song still sparkles - who says good rockmusic can´t be political? And the young musicians with their talent and enthusiasm make this just awesome to watch!
The very best rock music being made today, and The War On Drugs is a perfect example, has everything to do with complex mental issues that many of these superb artists are dealing with.
R.I.P. David Crosby. Thank por existir.
I HAVE to wonder, and HOPE; that those on stage, playing this Anthem of a song…KNEW the significance of what they had performed !
I can only hope .
Super Classic ,Great Music ,David is David Crosby The best
DC, world class, great voice, loved him and his music since Deja Vu, all the best David C...
I see not many people are listening to this great music in this generation crazy how times change great band 🤔
You will never die, David Crosby!
What a stark, remarkable performance of this legendary piece ... it's an unusual, but representative gathering of all Souls that terrible day affected. May we never forget that tragedy.
RIP, GREAT Crosby! God bless you!
Wow, this video made me feel the same way I felt when it first came out. It was great seeing young people getting in to the song. Great job to everyone involved.
This f’ing rocks & these kids are too! How did I just find it a couple days ago🙃has to be watched, not just listened to.
I notice David Crosby with no smile oh ..he does remember and hasn't forgotten that awful day..Kent St ....
Just some trivia. Neil Young, who wrote the original song was a Canadian at the time. When the song was recorded David Crosby got really emotional - he cried during the last part of the session. You can hear his voice tremble and break at the end. We were all in a state of shock, anger, and disbelief. And the picture of that 14 year old crying “Can somebody please, please help this boy” was just republished a few days ago. Her kneeling over a dying student in shock and disbelief won the Pulitzer Prize that year - it changed the way a nation saw its reality.
Neil Young is still a Canadian and actually has been living in Ontario for awhile now. I do believe he holds dual citizenship.
Cruising by (not so) old dvds I found that was Crosby who showed Young the mag with the picture of the young woman kneeling beside the dead student. Young wrote the song immediatly, just in front of Crosby who had Nash to make arrangements to hire a studio to record the song Ohio. In "Remember my name" Crosby points at the picture of the sub-humans firing their guns. It´s a must-watch.
The immediate release of the single record thanks to the late Ahmet Ertegun was a real hit (in many senses of the word):
Stay well. Stand up and be counted.
See, these are the videos that deserve hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of views.
It doesn't get much better than this. Turn the volume UP!!
Have seen and heard it so many times, it's still great! The energy spewed from it. I love the girl with the violin to Dann's right. She's having a really good time!
What about that lead guitar, drummer and Crosby quite arguably singing his best version of this song.
I was at this concert - blown away by quality of shooting, and especially editing here. Well done!!!
Man kids were so proud. They. Played with david Crosby awesome kids that's what more of young musicians you go vuys
David Crosby has been welcomed home by the Kent State four with open arms...
RIP Warriors.

Wow so powerful. I feel the change is coming when I watch you all with the students.
We can only hope.
Absolutely amazing! God bless you David! RIP!
Not a celebration..A day in US History that should sober all of us .....LET US NOT FORGET !!!!!
When you get young musicians fired up enough you get this. I want to know who fired them up to this extent and how they did it. I’d really like to know if David Crosby managed it. It’s also brilliantly arranged with the drummers coming down the aisle.
That was absolutely amazing. What a performance. The very best!
Wow! That was absolutely incredible! ❤😊
Maybe the most important song Neil Young has written. And what a version!
Absolutely majestic stuff. I don't know how Neil could've restrained himself from making overtures of peace after hearing, and surely he had, this deeply soulful rendition of one of his most moving creations. Unfortunately, a permafrost seemed to engulf the interpersonal relationship side of Mr. Soul. Smooth sailing to you, Capt. Crosby.
Just outstanding! So powerful with all these awesome kids and their instruments! Brilliant!!!
so cool the old and the young playing together; I hope the young understood the song
I was at BRANDEIS with my husband to be George on May 4 1970-THE day of KENT STATE OHIO never forget!!!! Real BULLETS NIXON...
I was in high school.
Wow
I was in Kent itself the weekend before this happened. I watched the National Guard march into town. A horrible chapter in America’s history!
At SVA we had a moratorium then Nixon said lets have a moratorium on moratoriums

Crosby never ceases to amaze. Good Job everyone! Great rendition!
Some people don't understand how badly we need to remember our dead. Thank you David and Company.
he was doing it just for show. he didn't even write the song
@@stevenaragon4412 he was there when the events took place

And the dead that the USA causes in the rest of the world, too, we DO remember. Stay well
D. CROSBY, WE MISS YOU!!
Only one word......thanks for ever
Brings tears to my eyes.
simply amazing job of producing this performance.
Wow! Amazing arrangement of a powerful song that helped end the war in Vietnam.
How amazing is this???
Wow! It caused me chills! That is the proof that good music never dies or is forgotten. A great night for all this girls and boys playing with Mr. Crosby and friends. I will share it on my profile, no doubt! Thank you Seals...
That´s beacuse Ohio is not only good music. Stay well.
If the past is repeating itself... somewhere another david crosby is reborn.
Thanks a lot guys for this powerful experience...Long life Croz! This energy makes me younger...
Grazie di tutto,grande David Crosby.
Sounds great, just like the record. Unbelievable.
Big concert with fantastic musicians!
Crosby was the impetus for this Neil Young song. He showed Neil the newspaper article, rounded up Steven and Graham and was relentlessly phoning recording studios in the middle of the night to get in. The shut outs at the end are fucking epic. From Neil's liner notes of Decade " David Crosby cried at the end of this take...."
It was Graham that showed Neil the article. Let's be accurate. We all lived that day, we all walked out of school the next.
KSU grad, 1966. Was in graduate school at Maryland on that fateful day. Was walking across campus wearing a rather tattered KSU tee shirt. Someone passing me saw it and asked if I heard what had happened. Had not at that point. In my life, and I’m almost 80, I’ve cried very, very few times in my life. That was one of them.
Rest in Peace David ☆
This is so cool! To see what David Crosby is up to now, supporting and inspiring the next generation. I like the arrangement too - the brass sound great!
brilliant sound.. voices. wow
Overwhelming - Stunning!!!
WoW!!!! You know Neil Young had to feel pretty good about that one. Venice harmony on point!
Great rendition, but don't think the song was meant to be done in such an uplifting way given the subject matter. Think Neil would have thought this too.
this was awesome, beautiful, wonderful a Todisima Madre
Excellente reprise et peut être un très belle hommage aux ÉTUDIANTS ASSASSINÉS trop jeunes
IL faut rappeler le contexte de cette musique
Pensées 💐💐💐🙏🙏🙏🙏
I hope they told the story of what the song is about to all the young people there. It’s still makes me cry to think that this kind of things happened right in front of our eyes.
Powerfull performance
