Let me know your favourites when you hear it x
Thanks for so many years of sharing your amazing voice Mr.Jones. So happy you started singing after your beloved wife passed. She wanted you to keep singing.
Talking Reality Television Blues. Great intro to the song.
This is the first time I've heard you singing with a rock group, Mr. Jones, and the result is phenomenal!
Mr. Jones, you absolutely slayed that song! There’s got to be a great story about the chatter with CSN&Y after the performance, please share (I’d love to hear their story about it too - pretty sure Stephen Stills was never going to be the same person again after that!).
P.S. Some years back I recall watching a video you did with - as I recall - a German metal band. Some of it was filmed in a park someplace. You were wearing a leather jacket and, once again, absolutely blew the performance into the stratosphere. Unfortunately, I can’t recall the band or even the song and so try as I might, I can’t find it again. I’d love to watch it again. If you recall the video I’m referring to could you please tell me what it’s called so I can find it. Thanks!
No doubt about it : "Never" / "Style and Rhytme" / "Give a Little Love"!!...cheers!!...always great to hear you sing, even 3 years to late!!...hi!...hi!...
Anyone listening in july 2024???🎉❤

You bet!
I feel like some people don’t really understand what an absolute beast of a vocalist Tom Jones was in his prime! He could literally sing anything and everything! Nothing was out of the realm of possibility with that voice!!! Just look at CSN&Y! It’s rare that you have a group of such an amazing musicians all sitting back just awestruck!!! Truly one of the greatest voices of our time!!!
He can still sing a bit now
He still rocks any song he sings
Great commentary. Fully agree.
He is still kicking ass with his vocals. Amazing!
Love this and my early Tom Jones singles ❤❤❤ Have to share...
It seems that entertainers and audiences were far more sophisticated in 1969 than they are today.
Correct. Far more sophisticated and far more talented.
The world was intellectually more sophisticated
Better dressed, too.
@@arkady714 Oh, absolutely. Most all performers, especially male performers, look like they are proud to have been raised in some ghetto shithole.
Not to leave out the females, they look like low class ghetto sluts with all their stupid ass tattoos which only make them look ugly. Can you imagine how one of these women will look when they are 80 years old with all of those tattoos on their arms etc. LOL
*Q:* Why?
*A:* Money, material, immediate gratification, youth, image, and power. The Ultimate Facade.
Man I’m seventeen years old, and I can confidently say there isn’t a single other video on this app I go back to more than this. Everything about it is so perfect, Neil’s stanky guitar face at the beginning while he’s soloing, David staring at Tom while he’s busting out the high notes, Stephen getting the falsetto, graham nailing the harmonies, not to mention Dallas and Greg killing it in the rhythm section. God I love this band so much
The only thing they don't need is Tom Jones.
@@jamesadams6009 If you don’t like it you can leave the Tom Jones Yt channel; wtf are you watching this and being all negative for? hopefully you have a less bitter day
@@jamesadams6009 CSNY seemed happy to jam with him (OK, maybe Y wasn't happy about it).
Kid, you just gave me hope, after all, for the Future of This Planet. So long as young folks like you appreciate music like this, Hope remains. Thanks. (and as a former teacher, i give you extra credit for your use of the adjective, "stanky.")
Nathan Grey, I am 4 decades your senior. The reverence you have given to the whole of this (my favourite duet) is stunning. I too see and appreciate all that you have pointed out. You did not disrespect the now Sir Tom Jones in any fashion, in my opinion. C,S,N,&Y is the epitome of harmony. If you enjoy the music of this era. May I humbly suggest you look up the video of Janice Joplin and Tom duet. By far that video is held in high esteem to this day by STJ. Janice even expressed to Tom that she would never have accepted any others request. Due to Tom's vocal ability, sound, need, and deep desire did she accept. In that video you can see the pure authentic Joy both were experiencing. If you are truly 17 7 months passed. You young man have a great appreciation of great music. Remember please, do not ever allow any individual to knock you down, ever. Again Thank you♥️
All I want in life is for someone to look at me the way David Crosby looks at Tom Jones.
Hahahaha
He was in awe of the man! His singing really blew him away!
Look in the mirror and give your self that look . Don’t need no one else
Also, Tom towards Mr Stills.
I was thinking the same thing 😂
I also love that one shot of Graham and David smiling at each other while singing their harmonies - their faces say "it doesn't get any better than this."
8:32 PM CST. Gonna have a 1/2 shot of rum.
That was very well put! I think they knew they were in a moment🤔😲😲
😂😂 You're kidding right?😂😂 They are both laughing behind Tom Jones back at how over the top the whole thing is. Talk about self parody...this is embarrassing for EVERYONE involved.🙄😂😂😂😂😂
Real musicians playing and singing real music. What a concept!
…and no damn autotune!
yea who would of thought?
Precisely. Now, let's compare this performance (1969) to this year's (2024) Super Bowl halftime show. It's pitiful these days.
@@davidhughes4448that half time show was a case of idol worship for Fabulous or whatever his name is.
you say that out of ignorance, and laziness. Music still happens that way. it is a laughable premise that only works for shitty pop music. Radio and finding good changed. It is fans.. they get stuck in "my day" thinking. and cant do the work, or believe good players still exist. That thinking only makes it worse for those that are out there, as you all gave up before you found them. Fans... worthless.
The admiration on Mr. Crosby's face while Mr. Jones is singing is precious.
@@carlosangelesz what did he say?
David's high as a Georgia pine.
And David Crosby I believe as well, since he was a damn good singer. Look at old Neil, wearing a suit!
Not sure if it's admiration. I think he is laughing that Tom Jones is over singing.
Tom Jones wasn’t as square as the hippies thought. He was a true blues singer packaged for tv
Stills never sang better, Crosby never looked happier, and Young never looked so serious.
That Tom Jones magic
Crosby wasn't even there other than physically. He's out of his gourd
@@jerbear7952 I was thinking the same thing though I think he was playing the 12 string properly :)
Yep that's exactly what cocaine will do to you lol
@@jamesbarnes7045 lsd and Young used heroin for awhile
Well sais. Full stop
So much talent on display. Everyone's pulling together and really delivering their part of a great arrangement. No clashing egos. Crosby Stills, Nash, Young and Jones!
...and the rhythm section of Dallas Taylor and Greg Reeves
Actually Stills is in a pissing match with Tom here. It’s pretty funny. He never wailed like that with CSN(Y).
Nice indeed.
@@mattskustomkreations Tom had a habit of pushing people to put out their best. I think some of them resented him for it afterward, which led to some pissy post-performance comments.
@@jimmccord487. THANK YOU!!!! I was wondering who they are!!!!!
That performance blew my socks off. There is no group of musicians today that I know of capable of giving a performance like that.
Tom is terribly underrated as one of the all time best male singers. The man is a monster. My favorite version.
Not underrated according to my mom and friends moms 😅
Not underrated unless you've been under a rock for a while
I was trying to give the man a compliment, as you just don't hear anything close to this talent level today in music.
Peace
@@70bluesville it’s ok. 😎
Not unrated or unheralded which is what I think.
Tom Jones didn't need to go this hard but so glad he did...looks like the entire group is having fun and playing hard, love the passion
I've never heard TJ do anything half ass
The smiles on Nash and Crosby's face tell the story. They're loving it.
Canucks 💘
They were stoned.
Raylan is right. They were gone!
Dudes are so stoned! Great jam. Where's the amps etc?
Jajajajaj.. that’s for sure man
My respect for Tom Jones has grown drastically after seeing this
I met Tom when I was 17, I'm 71 now. I was flying student standby from Detroit to Vegas and as stand by, they put me in first class....in the seat by Tom. I was a hippie and didn't recognize who he was but knew he was somebody special as every flight attendant came gushing over to meet him and see what they could get him. He was very nice, and we talked for quite a bit, they even served me mimosas, no one cared about my age when sitting next to Tom, lol. I found out who he was as I was deboarding the plane, and when I got home told my mom. She about had a fit...she kept saying " I can't believe you met Tom Jones and didn't ask for an autograph or picture." She loved him so much. This is a great video which shows he could blend well with rock artists. I wish him decades more of happiness, and good health!
cool as funk
Yeah, he held sway over many women back in the day. My mom went gaga over him, and she wasn't into _any_ other musicians.
Maybe Tom liked it that you didn’t ask for an autograph or picture. It kept the happenchance meeting more natural or “real”. You remember the event and that is enough-you don’t need to prove it to anyone.
That is so cool! My grandma was neighbors with Tom’s mum back in Wales, so she knew him as a kid and would follow his career through chats later on when she would go back to visit the old neighborhood. When he came to town she’s hold up a sign written in Welsh so he could spot her from the audience. She also called in and chatted with him on air once when he was doing a radio promo.
Should have given him your panties😊😊🕺
Just wow! Tom Jones raises the bar and the band accepts the challenge. Stephen Stills is electric here. It’s obvious the band feels how great this performance is. Tom Jones elevates everyone he sings with.
Stills was struggling--totally stressed out in the face of Tom Jones' firepower.
@@gymshoe8862 To me he didn't look stressed out, he looked inspired.
@@danieldickson8591 I get what he means. I feel like Stills was one of those guys that couldn’t stand to be upstaged. It does seem here he’s kinda overblowing, especially on the first “long long time before the dawn” where his voice sounds on the edge of cracking. I think it works for this thought as it pushes him into his game harder
The golden age of music. Long gone. Maybe back in 100 or 200 years. Never again see giants and leaders like them on one stage. Never again.
You know music is dead when a freakin TV show jam from '69 is better than ANYTHING I hear today.
Yes.Fair point.
But let's face it....There's nothing here to compete with.
Just sad we have failed to improve with age.
A brilliant whisky....we never produced!

@Robert Lee, Countertenor I am a drummer. All rap and hip hop songs use drum machine. Reason I can't listen to any of those songs.

I have never seen Stills totally on fire until now!!🔥🔥💥
Stills is a genius.

It was nice that Tom shut up long enough to let Steven sing 😑
Tom did this within the body of soul that regular singers of today's scene aint got. Go Tom!
Never ,never dis the mighty Tom Jones. Ever.
Holy Shit, I always thought that Tom was just some dorky crooner but nooooo! He blows this out of the water and man is he groovy and he gets down! Damn dog!!! This is the best ever!!!
I KNEW Tom was NOT a dorky crooner,.,been listening to him since the beginning :)
The thing about Tom Jones is that he totally commits to the song. He brings all that he has to interpreting the song. It is a beautiful thing.
Wish someon would pinch me. . . . . .can't believe what I just watched! Stunned & mezmerised😍
The same here. How did I miss this🎉
RIP David Crosby. Looking quite happy to be singing with the immortal Tom Jones on this night. Likely high as giraffe balls but happy none the less. This is the best version of my favorite CSN song.
Love the giraffe reference, hadn't heard that one before. I am definitely using that! 😆
The term I'm familiar with is 'as high as a giraffe's toupe'
🤣
Stephen Stills vocal performance was outstanding as well.
Totally bad ass performance by every single one of them..but I agree Stills was keeping up with the Jones!
Absolutely
I think Tom's performance was inspiring him. "All right, let's WAIL!"
@@marvinhighley3444 nice pun!
shoe Yes...seriously.
I would of never thought of Tom Jones doing a session with CS&N but man he tore it up.
I've been a fan of both...never knew this existed...what a find!
YES SIR
Don't forget Neil young.
This was The Tom Jones Show (or something like that). Every week he sang with a guest singer or band - just about everyone from Cher to Janis Joplin and he NEVER disappointed.
and he did that--all the time. Joplin was another example--and you could see she loved it. He may have been a huge lounge act in Vegas, but he wasn't afraid--of nothin.
Holy moly. As a kid we watched the Tom jones variety show. I don’t remember him ever being this fantastic. This is incredible. What a voice!!!!
Same all around here too!
One summer, I was visiting my cousin, and her aunt got up and started screaming during the Tom Jones show. Tom Jones had that way with women.
There's another clip where he sings with Janis Joplin and they're goosebumps great.
@@aisle_of_view I've seen that. Yep, that is incredible too.
....my Mom and I watched Tom's TV show together.....we are now 92 and 70.....❤....
Every one thinks of Tom as a showman but he's much more than that. He's an underrated multi talented musician
Holy crow, these guys were never better. Imagine being pushed to a new level by Tom Jones. Well, you just saw it.
And vice versa! This was smokin’!
You're so right. This song had some soul and blues...but with Sir Tom at the helm, this song had SOOOUUUULLLLL! I believe Tom brought it way out deep from all of them...except for maybe Neil. He looked like he thought he was at the wrong gig. He did say it best, "I've seen the needle and the damage done".
I've always said Tom Jones sings every song like it's the last song he's ever gonna sing.
Wow..what stands out to me are Stephen Stills' vocals, Neil Young' aggressive guitar and what...? Tom Jones?
When Jones is rolling he brings out the best in everbody involved
Not bad for a devout Christian. Dig it fellow babies!
If you want a lump in your throat, listen to him do Leonard Cohen's "Tower of Song". He pulls his (awesome) voice so far back for the most part out of pure respect. And it is still awesome.
Oh, yeah!!! That is really true.
Rest in Peace to David Crosby. An icon of 60's counterculture and an incredible musician with an iconic voice.
My first concert at age 12 and he died on my 50th birthday. He was major musical influence the whole way. He will be greatly missed.
And like a lot of geniuses in their field, an insufferable prick.. 😆
I cant believe he made it to age 81!! He might still be alive if it were not for COVID, which killed him. There is hope for me yet! My name is David too, BTW.
Me: Born 1957.
In the late 1960s, one of the great variety shows on American television was the Tom Jones show. He had a great ear for wanting to book who was hip and happening at that time and then he would sing with them! This is particularly fascinating as back then, Tom was thought of as “square” and CSNY was obviously thought of as completely the opposite. Well, in fact, Tom had always been one of the great singers and here he just knocks it out of the park on a song whose lyrics seem to resonate as much today as they did then! I also find this interesting that when Stills kicks in to sing you can tell he’s trying to reach the same level of intensity as Tom that Tom could do all the time.
Big Jim Sullivan on guitar -- AMAZING!
@@sidemann8593 Big Jim Sullivan is obviously not playing guitar here. Crosby, Nash & Young are on guitar, Stills is on organ and the rhythm section is Gregory Reeves (b) and Dallas Taylor (dr).
Tom Jones got on his knees and kissed me from the stage the night I turned 21 in 1978 and It’s still the kiss of a lifetime!!!!
Funny, my wife says the same thing.
May I ask, what was the venue?
Michael Littlewood He was performing at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
@@revans5283 Priceless. Thank you.
I have always wanted to see him live.
Tom could front Metallica and kick ass. You'll notice he dressed down for CSN&Y. I think Tom spurred Mr. Stills to new heights with the vocals and did you see the way Graham Nash and David Crosby kept looking at each other like: "this dude can really sing!"?? They were duly impressed I can tell you that much. 👍
So true!
Yep
You're exactly right, they were having a blast, and not just because of anything they might be under the influence of. Tom Jones was a big deal then, and I'll bet it was flattering to have him interpret their song. I love to see disparate acts make music together!
And Tom Jones! Who'd a thunk it?!
These were the greatest eras in music history the 60s and 70s there's been some great music since but nothing has topped them 2 decades when music was real.
This is gonna be the LAMEST thing ever......
10 seconds later.....
OMG.....This is freakin' AWESOME!!!!!!!
blows them off the stage. they do not have the crust to sing with him. at all. And they know it
Lamer than adding Young to the group?
Let me put it this way . . . this was before CSN (and sometimes Y) became "lame" themselves - and that, in turn, preceded the situation of today where to get them together would be like herding cats together in a room.
😂😂yup...theyre ripping
I know, right?!! My thoughts exactly! Then......hell yeah!! What an unlikely combination! First of all, it's great to see good color footage of CSNY performing during this time period, just before the release of Deja Vu, with Neil Young, Dallas Taylor and Greg Reeves. But Tom is actually killin' it!! Great stuff!!
Steven Stills knew he had to raise his singing game or be totally outclassed by the great Tom Jones!!
RIP David Crosby and thank you for the music.
Wow! Never imagined Tom with these guys, but he nailed it!
I don't care what any hipster says: Tom f'ing Jones killed it.
What hipster wouldn't at least arbitrarily agree with that?
It's so funny because he looks kind of like a square compared to CSNY, but as soon as he starts singing you can see them all start smiling. Tom Jones did a few tunes with Wilson Pickett, and you could tell Wilson was digging it too, haha. He was like a chameleon, he could hang with any of the soul singers of the day.
I saw Tom Jones live in a smaller venue & he is so powerful & yea, he absolutely killed it the entire time.
Look for the clip of him singing with Janis Joplin, even she was amazed how good he was
Tom doesn’t get enough credit because he went the Vegas route when he could’ve been the white Otis Redding
Better than the original. Tom Jones vocals are so powerful its beyond amazing.
They had a blast doing that. Can't believe I am at 63 just now seeing this, new favorite!
I wouldn’t say better than the original. Two distinctly different versions, however.
I don't think CSN have ever been pushed like that before. For a close harmony band of some note, Tom Jones elevated that song to something incredibly special, Stephen Still just about hanging on with his falsetto, Neil Young smiling! and seemingly in awe of what he was involved in and David Crosby can't really believe what he is hearing, they all had to step up to keep up! and boy did they step up…I won't be able to listen to the non-Jones version again….this is now my definitive version……how many more of these collaborations are out there, i can't believe this has been floating around since 1969 and i haven't heard it before….There is nobody out there currently that could even come close these days. I can't stop watching it.!
I think I want to forget this as soon as possible. Crosby, stoned as ever...
Never seen Steven Stills pushing so hard-that’s the Tom Jones effect!
The Tom Jones affect!
I Agree
Yeah, he really excelled himself there. Watch other vids with Tom Jones e.g Janis Joplin and he always brought out the absolute best with whoever shared a stage with him. The coolest straight guy who knew how to mix it with the freaks !! Kudos to the guy. The great majority of Jones fans only know him for his hits which although great, pale in comparison to all this “live” stuff.
You're right. He upped the game of the whole band. They were absolutely rocking to the best of their abilities. Yeah - the Tom Jones effect.
Nope! It was the acid.
I remember going to see Tom Jones in Las Vegas back I the 90's. I went into the show because I was invited by friends, the ticket was free and, at the time, I was indifferent towards TJ. I was neither a fan not did I have anything against him. By the time I left the show I was definitely a huge fan. Talk about a performer. I came away feeling that he was engaging with the crowd on a very personal level, individually, all at the same time... I realize how counterintuitive that sounds but that's the best way I can describe the experience. He was mesmerizing...
I dragged my BF to the same Tom Jones show in Las Vegas back in the late 90's. He thought it was going to be lame. To this day, he still talks about how great the show was. Tom delivered!
So much talent on one stage. Amazing. I've listened to this a dozen times and it never gets old.
Crosby is SO high and Tom Jones is just blowing his mind. Lol
Tom Jones is a talent that only comes around every hundred years...

Tom Jones was actually a talented riffer. There isn't many like him.
This might be the greatest thing I ever seen on the internet!
This is utterly top draw. CSNY were aware of their talents and it took a lot to impress them. You can tell Tom truly killed it by their reactions. So proud of this fellow Ponty boy!
You would rarely find more pure talent on stage at the same time...and remember this was recorded live.
Steve and Tom are in the zone!!! It's roughly rehearsed, but, mostly jammed with a crazy unabandoned impulsiveness! This stuff doesn't happen anymore. It is priceless. And great!
Great observation. And you are right: Simply does not happen anymore.

Tom Jones KILLING it on lead vocals...a highly underrated and unappreciated ROCK singer, this...
God they should have done a whole album with this line up amazing
Here’s Tom, way over the top. Playing his instrument for all it’s worth. His voice. Gotta admit, it’s one hell of an instrument. He can wail with the best of them, that’s for damn sure. Just proves that great is great, no matter what generation, genre, rock, r&b, blues, rap, etc, etc. If it’s good, enjoy.

I presume Tom Jones was considered "square", but damn if he didn't knock it out of the park here....guys got chops.....CSNY had to be happy with this
There's videos of him on UA-cam singing with Little Richard, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin,Jerry Lee Lewis,Van Morrison and a ton of others and he fits in with all of them. When I was a kid I thought he wasn't cool because my parents liked him and how wrong was I?
Such an unlikely pairing and who knew Tom Jones would be the main attraction? This combination was phenomenal.
