They got me through the 70's. The band was not above or below us, but with all it's faults and genius, honestly one of us. Listening to their music, always made me feel like we were part of a larger family, learning, struggling, celebrating, not giving into greed or ignorance, but reminding what life was and what could be. So glad they got a lot of it recorded. Peace and Love to the family and beyond....carry on

Thank you to all of our kindred spirits loving this, and thanks to these beautiful musicians. What is our life without this art, this music, this poetry?
Remember when CSNY broke up, Stills and Young released an album together and Nash and Crosby released an album together? They picked the person they meshed with the best. Neil and Stephen always have meshed together both as guitarists and lyricists.
It's why Stills wanted Young in the group. Nash didn't want to do anything to change the perfection of their unique vocal harmonies. He met Young and asked him why they should invite him to be part of the group. Young asked him if he had ever heard him and Young play guitars together. Nash said that he had, and the group became CSNY.
The momentum died when the Stones stupidly hired the Hells Angels as "security" at the Altamount, CA concert, Dec. 1969, 4 months after Woodstock. It was the opposite of "3 days of peace, love, and music." It was generally called "R&R's worst day in history," by Rolling Stone Magazine. The violence destroyed the myth of "a new generation of flower power." By early-mid 70's, we reverted back to the dancing of the 50's, with a new name.... disco. The end.
@@billbrandine5857 Especially Abba and Bee Gees killed the serious pop-music. Before, there was an attempt to make great music, an attempt to tell a story, but now - from 1972 and after, the only thing that counted was to make a number one hit.
I needed to hear/see this video today. Right now. This moment. I had been searching for a more "classic" performance of this Crosby anthem, but once I watched this Farm Aid clip, I was reduced to tears of joy and sadness. This is a powerful performance to begin with, but given Mr. Crosby's passing, its power is multiplied x100.
@Luc Colpaert....I think that's why music from the 60's and 70's is so great. The artists were all so passionate about their music. And they enjoyed playing for an audience as much as the audience dug it. I just don't see that much passion today.

I'm proud to be a middle aged hippie. I grew up in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara California, about an hour from Golden Gate Park and the Hate Ashbury. I was there for every moment of the life and love. I miss the life and music. I'm 70 nowadays but still hang and love my real 💓 music. ROCK AND ROLL. I now hail from a Florida address, where's the music? JW
Don't know if this counts as David's best song - there's at least three or four great contenders, but this is my oersonal fave; the one that still brings tears to my eyes( I'm typing with wet cheek now). It captures the shared vision and dreams we all had, and we told each other so by simply not cutting our hair for a few years. One of the many fantastic cuts on the greatest hippie album of all time - Deja Vu. Sure, like so many, by the time the 70s finished I had cut my hair. It was even shortish in the 80s and 90s. However, now, in the second "roaring 20s" - not a roaring non-stop party this time, but the recurrent roar for social and environmental change, and to stop yet another war - I'm letting my "freak flag fly" again. People, the world still needs us, more than ever. Let's keep the dreams alive and turn them into reality! Dave - your spirit still lives on in millions of beating true hearts - you will never be forgotten. Love ya, man. ✌&❤ forever.
I love seeing these people we saw singing when they were young , now older and still playing. We got used to thinking of the music of that time as made by young people, but we have all grown older and yet here we all are, they play and we listen.
Not old, brother. Just been young longer than most! Most of my friends say that I'm living in the past with the music I play (guitar) and listen to. I say, NOT TRUE! I brought the past up here with me!!!
You can tell everyone one of them know they just played a perfect set. This brought tears to my eyes, and I have hears this so many times, and it never gets old.
What can anyone say !!!! Crosby ,,, Stills ,,, Nash. Young …. A collective of total genius ,,,, each one of them has amazing albums behind them. And this track is sublime !!!! For anyone who hasn’t heard IF ONLY I COULD REMEMBER MY NAME …. Crosby ,,,, my go to album … just listen ,,,, then the rest of these guys work. INCREDIBLE IS THE WORD G
If I Could Only Remember my Name has one track on it that I know was absolutely Cosmic, I'm not sure if it was the title track or not, but I'm going to have to go back and investigate that Bloody album from top to bottom because that was my go-to album for a while ...that and Tracy Nelson Down So Low.... some of the other unknown lights and luminaries on the San Francisco scene starting with Naughty Women, the cross dressing band that had Izzy Stradlin playing drums, and who later put together Guns and Roses ....and then all the way up to the Chambers Brothers, Zolar X and Automatic Man ....Michael Shrieve's band that truly was the first real black super group in the Bay Area after Sly and the Family Stone, all measured up besides Hendrix's Band of Gypsies ...but worthy of the name, way before Living Color of course, although my hat goes off to them as well.... and of course the Bad Brains .... total badass players ....
Noi ragazzi degli anni 70 volavamo molto in alto con la loro musica . Grazie delle grandi emozioni che abbiamo vissuto ascoltando i vostri cori magnifici che nutrivano la nostra anima
I still remember and feel the impact of this song in the late '60s. At age 64, I'm lucky my freak flag is still full and I'll proudly fly it as long as I still have the hair. Yeah, maybe I'm a dinosaur because I still sincerely wish ya'll...PEACE. Maybe it's more important now than ever...
I too am 64 and chemotherapy took all my hair, when it returned I swore it was home to stay even if the cancer returns and kills me. I'll have my long grey silver locks poking out from under the coffin flowing out from under the lid. You can't take the hippy out of the man

What can you say ,,,, probably the greatest band ever if you take on all there stuff plus amazing individual works ,,,, lost for words how good !!!! Gx
RIP David Crosby. What a fantastic live performance from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ! 🎤🎷🎸🎹🎺🥁 Times are such that almost every week one of our old rock gods or goddesses dies. And in western countries there is hardly any prospect of offspring. If you ask a 17-year-old about rock and heavy metal today, you'll get the answer: "Ahh rock, is that these 80-year-old great-grandfathers?" "And heavy metal, is that those 60 year old grandpas?" 5 generations invented this music, made it big, enjoyed it and now we let it die ??? Support the next generation dear friends, buy music from young rock and metal artists from all over the world !!!🙏🤘🙏

30 years after his prime, 20 years ago, and he’s still got it ✌🏽
I'm proud to be a middle aged hippie.
One of my all-time favorite songs.
This is how cool music should be.... played by old guys!
Old guys!??! Ok, I guess we are!@!
Old guys!??! Ok, I guess we are!!
Old , young , whatever , that is amazing , top tier talent , guys like this get paid big bucks
Woodstock 1969 USA later all LP and later CD nou make music in heaven Rest in Peace we still listen your music Amen
You can tell everyone one of them know they just played a perfect set. This brought tears to my eyes, and I have hears this so many times, and it never gets old.
THX! AGAIN! ! He Spoke Truth in His Book...Rest my Friend...
Saw this tour at Staples Center in L.A. and Crosby was just ON it the whole night. The energy and life coming from him was unforgettable.
In one year, they changed music forever. ❤❤
They never were together for more than year at a time.
You can't take the hippy out of the man
agreed
Very cool. Love the freak flag.
I'm 74. With you. Love those hippies tm.
Same here.. I'm 67
THE MOST BESTEST men to do the best ON STAGE,,, I doesn't get any better than this -----ROCK ICONS.,. we should treasure FOREVER -- RIP David Crosby - you were the founding father of ths most wonderul era - that this lady I SOooooo grateful.........we had it SO DANG GOOD .........keep rockin on people xxxxxx
That was moving. Today's music has no heart, whereas this is all heart.
An entire generation will be missing David's incredible skill and creativity; he, along with the rest of the group, helped to shape the man I've become, and I am eternally grateful.
How lucky are Crosby, Stills , Nash And Young to be on stage with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young?
Beautiful music!
what an anthem for a generation
This was 22 years ago . I believe they are all still with us today . Stills looks like he was having a blast
Yeah man I started losing my hair in the 80's but I still let my freak flag fly. Had to go through some troubles like most people but I still am rockin ,playing guitar and just trying to be friendly.
E l tiempo no pasa por la buena música
RIP David Crosby, te escucho desde mis 16 años, hoy tengo 68 y te sigo escuchando !!!!!!!!!!
What can you say ,,,, probably the greatest band ever if you take on all there stuff plus amazing individual works ,,,, lost for words how good !!!! Gx
RIP David Crosby, this is one of my favorite song ever, " almost cut my hair " , but you never did it..... so long
RIP David Crosby. What a fantastic live performance from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ! 🎤🎷🎸🎹🎺🥁
Times are such that almost every week one of our old rock gods or goddesses dies.
Support the next generation dear friends, buy music from young rock and metal artists from all over the world !!!🙏🤘🙏
Yes right!
Awesome performance.!!
I love Crosby's vocals on all versions of this song. Stands up to screaming guitars by himself, Neil and Stephen. There was a concert so long ago, I think Moses was there, and the first half was acoustic, and the second half was all electric. Love you, Aany way you play.
I REALLY LOVE THIS GUYS!!!!!!!!!! NOW MORE THAN EVER.
Did Stills and Young ever imagine this sort of moment in those Buffalo Springfield days - what's that sound !!
I‘m on the way to Santiago de Compostela and wearing a big candle for you in my backpack. Rest in peace and thank you for your inspiration you gave to me. I‘m crying for the loss.
I'm just gonna go ahead and label this as EPIC.
What a firecracker exploding rendition this was!!!! All time most rocking version I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!????? Yeah!!!!!
Makes me feel sad sometimes...♥ we gone old and older and one day
We are going to heaven....♥ my heart crying
Why do I keep coming back to this song, love Stephen Stills letting loose on this
Wow they all sound AMAZING
Thanks for the music David. We will cherish it forever. RIP
