This video actually saved RDJ's career as Elton was the only person who would cast him in anything after RDJ went into rehab and Elton knew how that felt.

+MrPeterpiper1969 People never seem to think of that. There's the time before rehab, and there's Iron Man etc. Nothing in between in the people's heads. As a huge fan of both Elton and Robert, especially this video and the things that linked them to each others, feel even more intense to me. Robert called Elton his life saver once in a speech. Makes me tear up every time.

John L Myers IV I won't deny that John, his class as an actor showed through in Ally very well but imo this was the lynchpin, the real key to his mainstream resurgence. It's four minutes or so of perfect storytelling and could have easily been about RDJ himself. It's almost a biography in song.

He was actually still in rehab. Elton asked if he wanted to do the video, Mel Gibson vouched for RDJ and between the pair of them they paid a massive insurance waiver. RDJ was wearing an ankle tag making this. And the look of exhaustion was genuine as this was the 16th take. Each take was 1 continuous steadicam shot.

I want love, but it's impossible
A man like me, so irresponsible
A man like me is dead in places
    Other men feel liberated
I can't love, shot full of holes
Don't feel nothing, I just feel cold
Don't feel nothing, just old scars
    Toughening up around my heart
But I want love, just a different kind
I want love, won't break me down
Won't brick me up, won't fence me in
    I want a love, that don't mean a thing
That's the love I want, I want love
I want love on my own terms
    After everything I've ever learned
Me, I carry too much baggage
Oh man I've seen so much traffic
So bring it on, I've been bruised
Don't give me love that's clean and smooth
I'm ready for the rougher stuff
No sweet romance, I've had enough

I can identify with this song, because I too have been scarred and jaded by romance (not bad relationships, but unrequited love), so I spend my time being an introvert, and avoiding getting too close to people. Deep down despite feeling demoralized and disenchanted with romance, I still want love from someone I connect with and will return my affections 🙂

I love this song. Elton John is a genius. Have been a follower/admirer for many decades now. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect in this. While in a posh environment, it's barren & devoid of human trappings. So many are rooting for RDJ to remain sober & clean. He has soooo much to offer & a wife/family that should inspire his incentive to do so.
