Welcome back. I was a very weak Catholic until my anti-Catholic husband started to challenge me on my beliefs as a Catholic. I got on my knees and asked God to show me where the true church was. God led me to pray the rosary and I started reading Catholic books and I was blown away after discovering that the faith of my upbringing was actually the true church started by Jesus. 20 years later and my husband is also Catholic now. God bless you.

I spent years meandering around from there to the Vineyard, Evangelical Presbyterian, so called nondenominational churches, charismatic churches and the last stop was Lutheran. So happy to finally be home, more than a decade now. God bless you brother and welcome home.

I'm personally not a Catholic. I have no denomination formally. I'm just a Christian dude. I enjoy just seeing and hearing fellow brothers in Christ taking their faith seriously without the nonsense.
I use to have a big problem with Catholics, but I've long gotten past it and take serious ones seriously. You guys live and walk out your faith more than any group I've ever seen. Again, I'm no Catholic, but I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up there eventually, because Christianity is very weak in the West, and the only brothers I see holding it down are my serious Catholic brothers in the face of degeneracy and opposition. It means alot and God is glorified.

Catholic Church has advantages over other church denominations - having priests.
Priests are the successors of the Apostles who have teaching authority, governing authority and sanctifying authority.
Because of having teaching authority to speak out what is right and what is wrong; what is permissible and what is not, the Church could be governed with authority. Take away teaching authority and you will have no way to govern the Church.
Sanctifying authority of priests in Catholic Church is breathing life into Catholics.
      Priests sanctifies baptism, eucharist, confession...
Take away sanctifying authority and you will be compelled to redefined the sacraments. You will start saying baptism is symbolic; eucharist is symbolic, a memorial meal; no mam can forgive sins...
Priests sanctifies baptism by virtue of the office they hold. That is why Catholic baptism is sacramental, having spiritual reality.
Priests could offer the congregation to God in worship because of the office they hold .
Priests could offer the sacrifice of bread and wine on the altar as taught by the Apostles which no ordinary man can do.
Priests could forgive the sind of men because Jesus gave this authority to his apostles. Faith healers could heal physical sickness in Jesus's name. Priests also could heal spiritually sick people in Jesus's name.

I saw your passion for God and how genuine it was, but I was saddened that you left the Church. Good to know you found your way back. I can relate to pretty much everything you stated, as my journey has been very similar. I too feel like I’ve reached a “point of no return” knowing what I know. I’ve also spent many years battling alcohol, and while I’m in a much better state today than I was years ago, I know a return to the faith will help me immensely. My Platano brother, as a fellow Dominican, I was anti Catholic for years, it wasn’t until I prayed for God’s guidance that he brought me to the traditional Latin mass, which I didn’t even know existed until my friend showed me, cause we always went to the novus ordo

    • @JWellsUp
      @JWellsUp Місяць тому

@@Jo3K1ng3the novus ordo is the legit Mass. anything else is being disobedient. It’s no different than Protestantism. The devil is slick like that. @dr.mofongo9001 Місяць тому +1

I walked into the “Novus Ordo” vs “TLM” debate on my journey back to Catholicism and was new to a lot of it. I grew up with the Novus Ordo, and have had my own issues with what seems like a lack of reverence at times from some, so I can understand why people gravitate towards the TLM. On the flip side, there are some on the traditional side that spend too much time shaming those who attend the Novus Ordo. I had someone say to me once that it’s best to focus on one’s self and not let others take away from your experience, which is something I’ve tried to go by. My take on this whole debate is to not get too proud on either side that you put someone down for attending either form of the mass. As far as I know, both are valid, and there is no issue attending either. What matters is why you go, with the Eucharist being at the center.

    • @Jo3K1ng3
      @Jo3K1ng3 Місяць тому

@@JWellsUp I did not say anything bad about the novus ordo. All I said was I never knew about the TLM, and now I go to it.
I do think the TLM is more reverent but I do still attend a novus ordo mass occasionally.
I think you misunderstood what I said, I wasn’t attacking the Novus ordo. Although most Novus ordo’s don’t give Gregorian chant pride of place as it should. Cause if you read the Vatican ii article 116 it states that very thing that Gregorian chant has pride of place.
Also 70% of Catholics don’t believe in the real presence, another issue. I’m not bashing the Novus Ordo but why did this happen after the Novus Ordo went into effect? It’s a genuine question.

Then God guided me back to Himself through my protestant brothers and sisters, and in His right timing, He used the lockdown during the Pandemic to talk to my heart, and He brought my attention to a loving Mother, Mary, who I believe had been praying for me ever since I was born. I had a huge struggle in accepting Catholic doctrine because I was used to hear that it was unbiblical, but I just trusted the LORD and investigated what the Church actually teaches and it was so deeply connected to the bible, from the sacraments and to Mary as well. The rosary helped as well and freed me from addiction to sexual content. At some point I decided to come back to the Catholic Faith and went back to confession after years. Im thankful for God and for His Mercy. Welcome back home Brother :))

I heard someone say to hold your nose and come on in :). I thought that was true. The church looks is a mess, no doubt about it, but we must know that this is the church Christ founded and he will always be with us. He wont abandoned us and the gates of hells will not prevail. So welcome back and if your schedule allows it, go to mass daily to receive our Lord in the most holy Eucharist (source and summit of our faith). God bless you.

The Lord says: "Unless you eat My Body and drink My Blood you have no life in you." That's where a large percentage of Catholics fail in living the Faith. And that's why Protestant groups keep on breaking up. They do not have the 'glue' of the Eucharist to keep them together.
It's takes love, humility and generosity to believe in the Real Presence. Too many Catholics are too proud to believe in the Doctrine for fear of being laughed at as being ignorant and superstitious, too much in a hurry to leave Church after Mass to pursue their own worldly interests to spend time with the Lord. We all too often talk and talk and talk to the Lord, but seldom keep silence to listen to what He has to say. Consequently we don't get to hear His loving response and deny ourselves of the opportunity to receive His gifts. Our Communion becomes just a mere routine, an act we believe which has to be perform and it becomes meaningless. We become bored and gradually grow cold.
Try all the opposites and we'll discover the grace. We'll never leave the Church and forfeit our Faith.
"He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood lives in Me and I in him ; he shall never die and if he dies, I shall raise him up on the last Day." This is the promise of Christ Himself in whose teachings we are promised a blessed eternity. That's only found in Catholic Doctrine on the Eucharist and we see the distinct difference between Catholic Church buildings and the buildings of other groups of believers who also claim their Lord and Saviour is Jesus the Christ. We believe God is with us, not just everywhere as common as air is with all. It's is a gift and a great pleasure and joy to have one's lover by one's side, rather than just having a photo in one's wallet.

There are definitely bad leaders and less access to information back then vs now. I wouldn't be quick to dismiss poor catechesis. There's a reason there's a systematic lack of knowledge about Catholic teaching, despite many prots proudly claiming they went to Catholic school. Some teachers are flat out wrong (often in the direction of pluralism), some parents teach heresy, and some priests don't emphasize the need for confession to even be in a state sufficient to receive the Eucharist. Individual responsibility always exists, but if 20+% of any parish denies transubstantiation, while receiving the Eucharist, the responsibility is also on leadership either to deny it more often or teach it more effectively, or both. But the blame game is fruitless, and there are many parishes out there and information in abundance thankfully.
I've found the difference between a passionate parish and one that goes through the motions is so large that it makes me fear for those who only see the latter.

It's strange to me how catholics believe water baptism saves when Peter(inspired by the Holy Ghost) told us that water baptism is only symbolic(a LIKE figure) to ACTUALLY represent washing away guilt of sin to clear our conscience-
Toward God-->>1 peter 3:21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

    • @Gyudles
      @Gyudles Місяць тому +9

That looks like the King James. The wording there is confusing to modern ears. Let's write that verse more clearly. This is from the RSV: "God's patience waited in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, though the resurrection of Jesus Christ." Let's break it down. Peter is saying Baptism is symbolic of the saving of the human race in Noah's ark. That's what he means when he says, "Baptism, which corresponds to this," This? what is "this." "This" refers back to the salvation of the human race from the flood in Noah's ark. So, just as Noah's ark saved, so also baptism does the same thing. That's the point he's making. He then goes on to say it doesn't save you because you had dirt removed. It saves you because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So, yes, Peter is using baptism as a symbol, but as a specific kind of symbol. It's a simile. One thing is like another thing. One thing saved the human race and now this other thing saves the human race.

    • @rose-annrumpus5772

Jonny, I don’t understand why you think he’s saying it’s symbolic, especially when Peter is the one who addressed the crowds after Pentecost , who asked, What must we do be saved: repent and be baptised … Jesus says in John’s gospel that we must be born again by water and the Holy Spirit, after which His disciples go about baptising. There are many occasions in Acts where people come to the faith and are baptised - Paul, the gaoler, the Ethiopian eunuch … I could go on with examples and that’s not even taking into account all the foreshadowing in the OT - the Ark, crossing the Jordan … baptism is the initiation into faith and is for the remission of sins. There is no doubt about this. In addition it is the clear practice of the church from the beginning until now.

@@JonnyDurock Protestants always bring up the thief on the cross, but we have no idea whether he received baptism or not. We only know the moment that Jesus saves him, which, even if He did save him without baptism, would be fine, because He is actually the saviour/mediator. Jesus' words are enough. For all we know the thief was bathed in the sweat and blood of Jesus. Your interpretation is in the face of all the other references to baptsim in the new testament which clearly point to it being regenerative. Jesus instituted the sacrament of baptism (by his own baptism, which was not necessary but sanctified it) for our sake and then immediately sent His disciples out baptising. This is also in the context of His conversation with Nicodemus, which was also about baptism. For the rest of us who are not on the cross beside Jesus, He has given us the sacrament of baptism, a NEW baptism, which provides inititation into His saving covenant, which is why everyone, including Paul, is baptised when they begin to profess Jesus Christ. It is not the baptism of John, which is a precursor to it, which is why in Acts 19 Paul baptises the Ephesians into the new baptism which sends the Holy Spirit. The important part of your quotation from 1 Peter is that 'baptism now saves you' - this is not symbolic, and of course it is being saved through Jesus Christ, through His sacrifice for us: it is the way in which Jesus has decreed we should be initiated into His sacrifice. This completely corresponds to all the other references to baptism (or precursors of baptism) throughout the Bible. Your two passages can also be interepreted in harmony with this. They do not refute the need for baptism.

As far as the verse you used, we as Catholics believe the same thing. We also believe in what is written at the end of James chapter 2 “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” (James 2:17) All of James chapter 2 verses 14-26 talks about this if you want more contexts, and let me just say I’m taking all this from a Protestant Bible I have so this is something you should believe too if you’re going to stick with sola scriptura. You are misinterpreting St Paul in Romans.
We are saved by God’s grace thru our faith as a gift not by works as in works of the law without faith in Jesus Christ.
Jews did righteous deeds based on their law and to be seen.
You would believe that doing the will of God is works, right?
When you decide to make a decision is it not an action?
This is why you walk by faith not by sight.
It is not you who lives but Christ who lives in you.
You surrender your will over to God in faith and you become the righteousness of God by performing righteous deeds which is works or his will.

Christ bore my sins so that the least I can do for him is become the righteousness of God.
      How do I do that?
      First believe.
Second fully submit to God’s will.
Third act out thru God’s graces bestowed on you righteous deeds which are the 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit and the 7gifts. These are turned into virtues.
This is why when you ask God for graces you ask for charity (or love), joy, peace, patience, benignity (or kindness), goodness, longanimity (or long-suffering), mildness (or gentleness), faith, modesty, continency (or self-control), and chastity. (Longanimity, modesty, and chastity
along with gifts wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.[3]
These are then if you are obeying God’s will turned into virtue.
You will notice how you will begin to work out justice or honesty, generosity, patience, peace, self control so on and so forth moreso into your daily life.
And so now the Holy Spirit is transforming your soul into Jesus Christ.
Mary was perfect in all of the virtues. Her soul was mirrored to God’s heart which is why God chose her to be his ark of the new covenant.
We are not like Mary. She is the only perfect creature from the womb until her falling asleep or dormition.
