@@TheNikolinho their writings are not authoritative, just like paul understanding differ from peter and james. Does that make u despise their writings as well? Their writings tell us the core of whats the main problem. For example, the doctrine that body and blood of christ is not mere symbol. ALL OF THEM AGREED ON THAT. It gives us understanding that it is the true one since it has been understood and believed so since the beginning. Christianity is never built upon books, because at the end, what makes christian separate from each other not that they dont read bible. Every christian quote it as their justification. BUT, the problem lies on who read and understand it right. Ask yourself, which one understand it right? If luther understanding is right on one issue, there is no way calvin is also right on the same issue that makes them differ, because if not, why separate then right? But agai, which one is? Your ownself understanding? 😂

When Cameron said he found Confession beautiful I was thrilled because I just went to confession today after more than two years without it due to the pandemic. Although I have known it since childhood it never fails to give a quiet peace. When I heard the priest say to me, at the end of the holy words of absolution, "I absolve you from your sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" for a second it hit me so powerfully, I was aware that at that very instant God in heaven has mercifully absolved me of all my past sins and the punishment due me. I was free and I felt light. Jesus truly gave us a powerful Sacrament for our healing. I was a different person when I left. I wish all people can have this and the Holy Eucharist.

I am a convert, from agnostic. I still remember I prayed hard to God asking Him don’t send me to Catholic Church because I find Catholic Church boring and old (that was when I was naive and do not know how to appreciate the beauty of the Tradition). But I thank God for blessing me wisdom in my journey to Him…. I remember the only prayer I prayed daily was asking for wisdom in making decision, and that kinda lead me to the Catholic Church eventually. I still remember the day before my baptism, I ask God if He was joking for sending me to Catholic Church because I clearly don’t accept all the Catholic teaching. But with obedience I decided to dive in and get baptized into the Catholic Church. I learn more and more after baptism and God opened my mind to understand and appreciate the Church teaching. The understanding comes after having faith…. One cannot understand without first having faith. Just like Christianity, one cannot understand Christianity without first having faith in Jesus. Understanding will come after faith. And the cycle repeat as our understanding grow deeper, it further strengthen our faith.
Keep praying for wisdom, to know the Truth, to make the right decision, The Holy Spirit will move your mind and heart and trust in the guidance and take the leap of faith. All your hesitant and doubt will be cleared once u took the leap of faith.
If one keep waiting for the right reason before taking the leap… that won’t be called Faith. Peter followed Jesus before knowing Jesus is the Son of God, they just follow in obedience, the Truth revealed after. So whoever is waiting for the right reason to join the Catholic Church , don’t hesitate, just come, taste and see… the Truth will reveal itself.

How is Catholic church connected to Christianity? Don't they worship and depend on Mary and other gods? Don't they call a priest "Father" when it was clearly commanded not to. Catholic church prays to idol and dead humans (Mary, saints) instead of Jesus. They depend on witch doctors than asking Jesus for healing. They confess sins to priest when they can actually pray to God and ask forgiveness straight to God through Jesus, as the Bible says (it's as if saying Jesus is not enough). Doesn't Caholicism practice pagan practices like self-sacrifice (not necessarily dying but doing something..) as paying for their sins, even when the Bible says that forgiveness and salvation is through Jesus only. Doesn't Caholicism encourage praying Hail Mary 10x, our Father 5x, to be forgiven, even when the Bible says otherwise (which says Jesus isn't enough).
      Is Catholicism really Christianity?

@@IamJamila0523 I have the same thoughts about Catholicism. I have issues with Protestants as well; e.g. five-point Calvinism. . . T.U.L.I.P..
In the end it seems to me that having a relationship with God is analogous to that of a healthy, human father son or daughter relationship. I love my father; I will always be his son no matter what I do. I can always say I am sorry and receive his forgiveness. I want to remember my father at all time and act in a manner that is becoming and consistent with my profession of loving him. . . never to bring shame upon him.
Likewise, God is my Holy, heavenly, Father, and because of what God has accomplished through Christ (God in the world reconciling the world to Himself), I am an adopted son of His; a joint heir with Christ; a branch grafted into the Vine (Christ) who is in the Father and both in me. I am part of the Body of Christ. And as such, It seems to me that this is what matters in the end. How can I go wrong with this in mind?

@@claudiolordino2192 everything you said was true. However, the catholic church are openly pagans, as they make it appear as seen in their prayers, in their rituals, in their worship, in their celebrations, in their accessories, basically this is not something hidden. they have a lot of practices that depend mostly on saints and other humans than on Jesus alone - the bible is clear though that He wants us to depend on Him, trust Him and love Him with all our hearts and minds. knowing this, it would seem very offensive to be a part of it and still say, "but God you know that I love you", all the more, claim that they are Christians. Christ-ian means you follow Christ.
So, it's kind of questionable if Catholicism really is Christianity. There's such a big difference from the way Christians practice and live their lives as followers of Christ.

      @jackdaw6359 2 роки тому +1

@YAJUN YUAN Scripture being materially sufficient doesn't mean it is formally sufficient in principle. Because the formal interpretations have been handed over. (Tradition) And if by some slim chance you happen to agree with every single tradition that was given by the apostles (with roots in scripture, good for you) now you must submit to the church as demanded by the same Scriptures. Perhaps consult the church that can actually bind the entire church like in Acts 15. Otherwise you just have a pretend church and a pretend magisterium.

    • @jackdaw6359
      @jackdaw6359 2 роки тому +1

@YAJUN YUAN The magisterium can read scripture and bind people in rare circumstances against faulty interpretations. Most often this is not needed. Because like you said. Seeming contradictions do arise. Seeming. And this leads to fighting. Only the highest authority can definitively stop this fighting. One such seeming contradictions to you may be that Christians worship on the Sabbath. The early church fathers, tradition and scripture attest to Sunday worship. Your faulty interpretation dispute this. In your mind there is a seeming contradictions. But note how I can know the truth by consulting either the church fathers as a whole, the Scriptures with their interpretation (traditional) or a council to know what the truth is. However if I see q dispute, I should side with the binding authority.

    • @jackdaw6359
      @jackdaw6359 2 роки тому +1

@YAJUN YUAN The Magisterium is part of what was handed over (Tradition) they need not contradict. What was handed over to the early church bishops was the sacraments (and these are attested to in Holy Scriptures although we get a glimpse at them) Scriptural interpretation and methodology was handed over as well. The magisterium was also handed over. So ultimately one can say sola tradition and one would be correct in the sense that one holds to *what was handed over by the apostles*
Say however confusion erupts over what was actually handed over by the apostles. Orthodox historically had councils Catholics still have councils. So now the magisterium lays the truth down. So in that sense prima magisterium is the groundwork. Although, it plays a minor role in many day to day spiritual activities for the believers. But then one can also say so much of what Catholics believe are merely truths stated in scripture and everything we believe can be backed up with scripture. Does this make us prima scriptura? For each and every one of our doctrines you better believe we will cite scripture. Strange. Almost like all 3 play a major role.

I had struggled with Anglicanism for some time and come to feel deep down that the Anglican church was not quite right. I started to attend the Catholic Church in the autumn of 1977, and was received the following April. I have never looked back. Nowadays if I go into an Anglican church, for instance for a funeral, I experience a feeling of emptiness. I had visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham [England's main Marian Shrine] several times as an Anglican when I was 17/18 and I believe this may have played a part in my conversion although there were other factors. @@hazyexpress5607 I and my father are one."
This verse, however is quoted out of context. The complete passage, starting with John 10:23, reads as follows:
"And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one."
      John 10:23-30
In divinity? In a holy "Trinity"? No! They are one in PURPOSE. Just as no one shall pluck them out of Jesus' hand, so too shall no one pluck them out of God's hand.
      Need more proof? Then read:
"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one."
      John 17:20-22
Is all of mankind also part of the "Trinity"?
Such terminology can be found in many other places, read for example:
"Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit,"
      1 Corinthians 6:15-17
      And also
"One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."
      Ephesians 4:6
      And
"For as the (human) body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many."
      1 Corinthians 12:12-14
Once we read the above verses and understand what the message was that Paul was trying to get across, then we can begin to understand his words in such places as
"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."
      Ephesians 4:4
"St. Paul" was speaking about Christian unity, not about a plurality of gods merged into one body. As we shall soon see, he was completely ignorant of where his teachings would later lead, and how decades later, they would be the foundations which would spawn the "Trinity" doctrine.

Therefore, becoming Catholic is not really up to your consideration, it is your primary duty as a human being, totally focused on God.

“For that holy and prudent man knew that to admit the notion of piety is nothing other than that everything is received by faith from the fathers and consigned by the same faith to the sons and not our religion, which we want that leads, but more *that which leads must be followed* , for it is proper to Christian modesty and gravity not to pass on his own beliefs to those who come after him, but to serve that which is accepted by his ancestors. What then was the issue of the whole matter? What but the usual and customary one? Antiquity was retained, novelty was rejected.” -St. Vincent of Lerins

The introvert aspect alone has me thinking about becoming Catholic. 😂
I'm actually not even joking though.
Edit - I've still never found a church that isn't trying enough to where I feel out of place. I've fairly recently (last couple of years) become a believer after decades of atheism and then agnosticism. I'm not very concerned with doctrinal issues unless it's something that is blatantly illogical or wrong because I'm not looking for someone to tell me what to think but how to better think. I love music but not so much concerts. I am easily annoyed by pushy attempts to exite me. I need good, in depth theology/philosophy in a loving but calm and peaceful environment. The church absolutely needs to be doing good for the community and world more than anything. Tithing isn't to pay for our own enjoyment but to do God's work.
    Any suggestions is appreciated.

But is different for everyone, I don’t think Protestant churches are worshipping less or more by being more energetic, just different.
I think the right way would’ve been for the Protestants to have remained in communion with the Church, and became a religious order, rather than something separate.
But anyways, just keep praying to God to guide you where you should go. Let it be His will! And God bless you in your way!

@YAJUN YUAN Uh, Trent did say "before his ascension." He's obviously not claiming that Jesus didn't want the Bible to be written. Catholics are bound by the Magisterium to believe in biblical inspiration. It's not an optional opinion. He's talking about what Jesus seems to emphasize. Jesus rarely mentions writing the Gospels and never gives any indication that believers should treat the future Gospels as the "sole infallible rule of faith," whereas he constantly instructs us to contribute to and submit ourselves to the Church. So clearly there isn't any biblical warrant for sola scriptura. This is not an either/or proposition - like most things, for Catholics it's a both/and thing. Scripture vs. tradition is a false dilemma that serves no purpose other than to attack the authority of the sole remaining Apostolic successors. The burden of proof isn't on the Catholic Church to prove that both the things Jesus recommended are worthwhile. The Bible itself has already demonstrated that Jesus seems to think of the Church as the central focus of worship and as a singular, hierarchical organization, so the burden of proof is on you to demonstrate that it's not any of those things, that Jesus only wanted us to use Scripture, and that he didn't really mean all those things he said about the Church.

Being Catholic, it’s not only the beautiful churches but it’s also the solemnity of being inside in front of the Altar. The presence and peace you feel in front of the Tabernacle. The forgiveness of sin at the sacrament of Reconciliation and feelings of your love for the Holy God. And God making you feel of His presence when you are forgiven of your sins.
Having a purpose to serve your loving Holy God the Father.

Not only that, but was that also true in middle ages when the Roman Catholic church dominated Europe? This "Catholic awakening" going on right now on UA-cam only helps prove that Catholicism is on the broad path. The majority in bible is almost never in the right. 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it. Matthew 7 Catholic Answers' explanation does not refute this idea: "Well, it is Our Lord who calls himself the way and the gate elsewhere in the gospels. So he is the “narrow way.” He is teaching us that his way of salvation is the only true one, and this way is identical with himself. This is what is meant by “narrow.” So one does not reach Christ simply by following broad human opinion or custom but by clinging to him alone. Consider also that the Savior’s beloved disciple St John tells us in his first epistle that God is love. So the narrow way which is Christ is the way of love. This is the way of the cross, the way of the saints who left all to follow Christ." www.catholic.com/qa/how-to-interpret-matthew-713-14

The best way we can learn from the Apostles is by their students. "By their fruits, you shall know them," as we read in scripture. Ignatius of Antioch, Clement of Rome, Polycarp, and a few others are good sources of what Orthodox Christianity really is. Saint Paul's letters, beautiful as they are, do not go into authority structure, doctrine, etc because they had no need. Everyone accepted that the Apostles had authority since they were the direct students of Jesus Christ. But once their successors had taken over, nefarious elements lead to minor heresies that needed correcting, ergo the letters.
I recommend Ignatius of Antioch and Clement of Rome if you want a good idea on it, but don't be afraid to read from them all. Their letters are as long as Paul's, so they aren't going to set you back a month.

During the part (min 23) where he was talking about the Pope and brought up the fact that there was a king of Israel. My Mind instantly went to the fact that Isreal wasn’t supposed to have a king but because they were not listening to the Prophet of God they demanded there be a king. “Later, Samuel gave a farewell speech that would also address this issue, saying, “I will call on the Lord to send thunder and rain. And you will realize what an evil thing you did in the eyes of the Lord when you asked for a king”
“Why was asking for a king wrong? The Lord was to be the ruler of Israel. God led the people through Moses and Aaron, and then through priests and judges raised up to govern the people. In Samuel’s time, the people began to worry about who the next leader would be, since Samuel’s sons did not follow the Lord. Their request for a king was a rejection of God’s way of leadership over them.
“Another reason it was wrong to ask for a king is that the Israelites did so in order to be like “all the other nations.” God had created Israel as a unique people. He was their leader. When the Israelites wanted a king like other nations had, they were rejecting their unique, set-apart position as God’s people. The nation whose God was to be the Lord alone was envious of the nations who followed false gods.”
It seems scriptural that God set up a church in a specific way. Christ as the head and under him bishops (who are equal) and so on.

I think Trent's question, "Where is that church today?" is a very good question. If we can indeed trace Catholicism back to the original apostles, then that will be very interesting.
But my question now is, what if that church through the centuries of its existence made some errors in its doctrines that seem contradictory with Scripture (the highest Christian authority)?
Would it still be worth following that church? Should we just correct the church of its errors? What if that church insists on its errors? Should we then divide ourselves from that church like the Reformation?

    • @sj21393
      @sj21393 2 роки тому +3

Your presupposition is that scripture is "the highest christian authority" . This is a core belief amongst the vast majority of Protestants and is usually taken for granted, but when you research this idea, you find that it is not historical, logical, nor even scriptural, but rather was invented very late in the game.
If you decide that one of the church's teachings is indeed contradictory to scripture, what you are really saying is that you have decided that the church's teaching is contradictory to your own, or an individuals interpretation of scripture, which is actually making yourself, or that individual, the highest authority and ultimate arbiter of truth. The Catholic Church teaches that the Bible is indeed authoritative, infallible, etc, but that it interacts with the apostolic tradition and the teaching authority of the apostolic lineage to ensure the proper interpretation and application of the scriptures.
On our own we are all able to err , but the Holy Spirit guides the Apostolic church in its entirety, as the body of Christ into all truth. On our own, left up to our own interpretations, we can end up very off-track. Scripture can be unclear and even quite confusing and can be interpreted an infinite number of ways. We see this in the Protestant community today as the number of denominations grows perpetually and new ideas and beliefs come and go fluidly. We also see this in 2Peter 3:15 : "And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you; as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own stedfastness.
I suggest you look more into the origins of flaws in Sola Scriptura and the Catholic teachings on church authority. If you like Trent Horn, he does have plenty of excellent treatments on both of these subjects. So does Jimmy Akin.

I mean it is rare for a person these days to just simply accept an entire Catholic catechism. If we are thinking for ourselves why would we? I think Trent's distinction between Mere Christianity and Protestantism is correct. Accepting just the core tenets mentioned in the video (Belief in God and Jesus as his Son) does not equal Protestantism. Protestantism is more than that. For example, the idea of treating the 66 books as the only valid scriptures is a Protestant idea. However, a Mere Christian could believe in the deuterocanonical books of the Bible whereas a Protestant would reject them. I'm not saying that all Mere Christians would accept all or any of these books but my point is simply that they could. So, that's one example that can show the difference.

Question: I went to Catholic school, I was an alter boy, I am VERY familiar with the church.
While my personal experience at Catholic school and as an alter boy were both absolutely wonderful, honestly zero complaints…
As an adult, I could not get over the atrocities the Catholic Church had done and the evil monsters they protected.
    To this day I can’t.
I love a LOT of what the Catholic Church can be, but I can not turn a blind eye to what it has been.
I do not believe an institution that has perpetuated such evil can hold the earthly authority of God. I can not conceive how that would be possible.
I know the Catholic Church teaches that humans can lose favor with God, if that is true, how has the Church itself not lost favor? Or kept it's authority? If it ever had any actual authority.
My loss of faith in the church did not cause a loss of faith in God. Every church could be wrong or evil and God can still exist.
I have been to many churches since. Some good, some awful, but none that has felt 100% true or complete.
I'm 45 years old now, I’m not sure if a “true” church exists in this world any more. If it does, I would love to find it, but if I can’t, that will not change my faith in God.
I can not let my desire for community or tradition allow me to overlook atrocities.
I’m genuinely curious how you can, or how anyone can.
I understand that may not seem like a nice question, but it is a fair one.

For example I wonder how they can be proud to be add here > Americans, or French or Mexicans or whatever when they have done this atrocious things to Blacks, or Indigenous people or Jews, etc etc etc
I have come to accept that it doesn’t matter what community “label” I attach to my name, there isn’t a clean label. You can be a Catholic or an Atheist or anything for that matter and your conscience will object to things that group of people have done in the name of their beliefs. Hope that helps. @@calmontes651 Hello, thank you for taking the time to reply. To answer your question, these are VERY different scenarios.
Nationality is where you were born, you have no choice in that. Hate it or love it, I was born in the United States. That is my nationality. Thankfully, I was born into a country where I can freely express my like or dislike for our nation's history.
Nationality is NOT a belief system or a choice. Religion is very different.
In the United States and many other countries, we get to choose our religion. It is not a fixed label we can not control or choose to leave.
If you see religion as a label you are given at birth and can not change, I don't know whether to feel sorry for you or to abhor you. Countries like Iran, where most of my family is from and still lives there, religion IS a label you are given at birth, you can not choose or change. If you are born to a Muslim family and do not believe in that death cult, you are not allowed to become Christian or ANY other religion. If you do, the punishment is death.
I hope you do not choose to see religion the same way a brutal, totalitarian, murderous dictatorship sees religion.
If you live in a free country, you get to choose your religion. If you choose to turn a blind eye to horrific behavior in that church and still attend, or God forbid give them ANY money, then you are just as guilty as the rapists you are choosing to defend and enable.

33:13 - Cameron doesn't think that Sola Scriptura is the essential doctrine of protestantism.
I beg to differ. There are many Protestant who no longer believe Sola Fide (those Church of Christ guy, some Anglican etc). But none of them disbelieve Sola Scriptura.
This is because Sola Scriptura is the most fundamental thing of Protestantism. We could say that "Protestatism = Sola Scriptura."
All institution needs authority. Without authority there's no single unifying principle of that institution (that consists of people). Protestant denies the hierarchical authority of the Catholic Church. It means that they have to derive authority from somewhere else. So, voila, scripture.
But in a sense scripture is quasi-authority. Because the ultimate authority for Protestantism is him/herself. It's his/her interpretation of scripture that matters. Scripture is the tool to justify that authority. It is to apologetically say "my authority is not myself but the word of scripture" tho in reality his/her authority is himself/herself.

Remember the Scripture where Jesus says If any man doubt my words let him seek to do them. In the doing he will find whether the words are true.
There is no arm chair generating or Monday morning Quarterbacking the Doctrine of the Christ. You discover it by living it.

    Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves.
    Romans 13:8
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
    John 13: 34-35“
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
    Ephesians 4:2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
We all love one God, one Christ and we should embrace the richness that Catholic, Orthodox and Protestants bring to the one Church. And should worship with each other in unity and full uninhibited pure love for each other in reverence for Christ who died for us all.

Hot take: being a mere Christian requires being neither Catholic, Orthodox, nor Protestant by default.
Edit: in the Kingdom Defense for the pyramid hierarchy of the papacy, have we forgotten that God's preferred method of government was unilateral judges from each tribe? The people asked for a king and were warned it was a bad, secular idea, but went ahead anyway, so God sanctioned it. I see this issue crop up a lot when the Roman Church is propped up against the Jewish legacy. It seems we're ignoring that many, many aspects of the Jewish story, from the golden calf to the bloated tyranny of Talmud (which Christ clearly despised), were actually signs of rebellion and foolishness. They may have been the chosen people, but they also choose poorly themselves time and time again. It was by looking to the head of Israel that the apostles were freed from legalism and despair, just as we should be looking up the head now to cut through all the extraneous human traditions that have cropped up around the faith and lodged between us.
Please correct me if I'm off anywhere here.
Further Edit: mad love for Trent Horn, the guy is a fervant warrior for truth... but I want to stand for the distinction between protestantism and mere Christianity. To be a Protestant is, by definition, to belong to the movement of protesting the Roman Catholic Church, typically from within or as an offshoot of it.

If my conversion experience did not so closely resemble what the Bible says is supposed to happen, when a person becomes born again, I might have considered becoming Catholic.
Don Sears the Agnostic Who Met God.
Like most Northwesterners, Don Sears was not an atheist. He thought there might be a God somewhere, but didn’t think there was anything we could know about Him for sure. He resented Christians who talked about Jesus Christ, and told them there was no difference between Bible stories and comic books. Don , however had a serious problem with rage and violence. As a young man growing up in Alaska, his idea of a good time was going to the Indian part of town, finding a big Indian, and provoking him to a fight. He was possessed by a fury that would flash at little or no provocation. It would erupt in him like a volcano, and would not be satisfied until he or his opponent lay bleeding and broken on the floor. His rages were so intense that sometimes he could not remember what had happened after he blew up. He was this way for over thirty years, and said it got to the point that he liked the feeling of bones breaking under his fists. He became involved with a business, and began studying their manuals on salesmanship. To his surprise he discovered that they used principles out of the Bible, and he began to wonder about the Bible. One Sunday he went to what he thought was a business meeting in Portland, Oregon, and was surprised to discover that it was actually a church service. He was even more surprised that he didn’t walk out in disgust, but listened to the message. He heard that Jesus Christ had died on the cross, paying the full penalty for Don ’s sins. He heard that He rose bodily from the dead, and now is offering a real salvation from sin to all who believe in Him. At the end of the service during the altar call Don felt an undeniable urge to go to the front and accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. Don , the angry agnostic walked down the aisle and genuinely gave his heart to Jesus Christ.* Years later I askedDon what it was that convinced him that this was real, and not just some emotional experience. He told me that the following week he was provoked by someone in a manner that had always caused him to erupt in a fury. This time, strangely, he did not get mad. He said he was surprised as he walked away, that he hadn’t beaten the daylights out of the fellow, but he just didn’t get mad. In fact, he told me, as time went on he discovered that he couldn’t get mad at people anymore. It was like someone had turned off a switch in his heart. He could still get mad at his car when it wouldn’t start, but not at people. Also, for all his life he had wanted nothing to do with Jesus Christ, Christians, church, the Bible, prayer, or anything “religious.” Now he discovered that his core likes and dislikes had been reversed, seemingly overnight. He wanted to know Jesus, pray to him, read the Bible, and amazingly he found he now loved being around Christians who genuinely loved the Lord Jesus Christ. This has been over twenty-five years ago, the rage has never returned, and his love for Jesus has never left him.*
