    You did the easier belt here. The wheel drive belt requires separating the blower unit, or at least removing two bolts and loosening the other two to get the belt down to the pulley. Thanks for the video, though. I just did both belts on mine, and it was very helpful. The thing chucks snow better than it has in years. Mine was this exact model, so it was great to have a specific video.

      I’m glad it was helpful. We do not get much snow in our area so I don’t get to replace the trans drive belt often but when I get one to replace, I will get a video of it. Thanks for watching:) and I’m happy you machine is running great!

    Very detailed, I am getting one with a broken belt for cheap, drives fine and the motor sounds smooth. I was told he could not replace the belt and got another one. This will be a project for me soon and it look very easy to do. Thanks for detail, I'll edit this when I am done and it's working...

    Thanks. I bought a used machine that had untold hours. Very sound, but unknown history of the last decade. It does not like pioneering in 2.5 feet of crusty snow. So here I am. I will also be using air to clean off the belt fragments prior to re-installation of belts.

    Thanks for posting this video! I found it even easier if you take the bolt out of the top pulley wheel, it'll separate into two halves. Slip the belt on and then replace the half pulley wheel. It'll require no stretching.

    Thanks for your great videos! I just picked up a craftsman 928 model 31as6heg799, 247.88190, that needs some TLC. Previous owner sheared 1 of the 4 pins and the other 3 are siezed, skid plates are shot as well as the scraper blade, but the engine runs great! Most of the bolts, (skid plates, scraper blade, discharge chute, etc) are frozen with rust and break trying to remove them. I've have a Murray 522, Craftsman 8.5/26 as well as a older Estate 825 that I've refurbished, all up and running for our upcoming MN winter. Keep up the great work!

      PB Blaster and soak is good for rusty bolts. Most of the time just get new hardware because the old normally breaks off. Thank you for watching my videos and for the kind comment. Please share my channel to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated.

      Well here's the story. This is a older craftsman 928, 247.88190 that I picked up, $50. One auger blade had a sheared pin, the other 3 auger blades were frozen to the shaft. I had to grind off the other three shear pins and was able to remove the blades using pipe wrenches to free them and work them off the auger blade shaft(s.) Even being soaked with both PB blaster as well as a ATF/acetone combination (no longer have my oxy/acyt torch) the sheared pins would not yield to a punch and hammer so I was able to drill the old pins out. The shafts are now clean and the gear box turns freely and smooth so I added 80/90 to the auger box, p/n 719-0320, LK-3. According to my measurements, the gear oil is about 1/2 way above the auger shaft/worm gear and I have some fliud leaking on both sides of the auger shaft seals. Many years ago, we could take a seal, bearing, O-ring to a hydraulic shop to get a replacement part. Due to the age of this blower, it will probably be best to run it as is and keep an eye on the gearbox fluid level on this one.
      Craftsman 928, Craftsman 8.5/26, Murray 5/22, Estate 825

    Thanks for posting! It only took me 15 minutes to replace it after watching your video. I don't have a maintenance stand but putting the blower up on its end (blades down near the floor) made it super easy to get the maintenance panel off and to pull the old belt out and push the new one through. 2013 357cc MTD Gold had more space between the pulleys (compared to the one in your video) for the belt to pass through there.

    Real helpful and detailed thanks. I too didn't like trying to wiggle a new belt past the bolt with a long screwdriver, but with a little patience it's not too hard to almost guide it sideways and not have to use too much pressure.
    I believe this should solve the issue I was having where my auger would stop engaging with even a small amount of heavy snow. I do wonder what causes the wear on the plastic cover... has to be a better design than that.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines

      The belt guard wearing out is from the belt slapping against it while running. On many models they put a metal tab there but they only did it to a few models.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 роки тому +2

      If you tighten the belt to where you think the handle tension is ok and when you let off of the handle the augers still spins. It is time for a new one. Normally when you see smoke from a belt, it will have done damage. In my opinion order one in to be on the safe side and go with yours until it doesn’t work well.
