The 2 ODSTs you've recruited, Badluck and Gaines, were actually nearly ready to desert by the time they dropped on your town. Badluck especially had sworn to themself that this was going to be their last drop; as their callsign suggests, none of their operations went smoothly. When the rest of their squad left them for dead, that sealed for the two of them that if the UNSC didn't care about them, they wouldn't be heading home. The only reason they took any time at all to recruit was because they were inclined to just try their luck with the outlanders.
You know a lot of people hate the death acidifiers and biocoded weapons but from a practical lore perspective it makes sense. You dont want you equipment falling into the hands of your enemies so you make it useless to them. What I do hate is the tainted apparel debuf. Which I can understand slightly. But I always disable that because who cares if that coat was worn by a dead person cause it is mine now and I am going to be keeping warm with it!
Also make sure you stockpile plasteel, steel, and components because you are going to need an absolute butt ton of them ... actually several butt tons.
Completely agree. Though both can be annoying when you want to advance your colony or upgrade gear i feel like its fairly realistic. Hoping we can trade for the components and maybe haul steel and plasteel from the crashed starship
Also game balance. Even with acidifiers it is still easy to get recon or even just flak armour from early empire raids. You just need wood traps to down them although sometimes they still die
Tainted apparel ruins cannibalism because their clothes are useless
Lore suggestion: Udo got his nickname from eating a plant for a bet called an Udo fruit that tends to cause rapid hemorrhages. Luckily, the fruit was rotten, giving him only a mild tummy ache. Zap zap got her nickname from… well… she does the zap zap.

I might be late, but something to note about SoS: dont hook normal batteries up to ship capacitor grids. Ship capacitors never zzt, because that would be quite silly in space. However, normal batteries do. And theyll discharge all power in the grid, including whatever the capacitors are holding (usually a lot).
I do like seeing the cruel pirates having a soft spot for children.

Another name that could fit with Boooork is Cochiloco, is the name of a character from the movie "El Infierno", both have the same outfit 😅 and cochi use to call pig in northern region of Mexico
I would recommend a mod that makes power armors sealed in space, idk if its still updated or something but take it as an inspiration from some elite clone troopers from starwars

Backstory of Badluck, the reason for the nickname: as a civilian badluck has been kidnapped by covenant and after a few weeks the ship he was on was attacked by the flood infected ship which resulted in chaos during which he escaped. After drifting for a few more days he was found by pirates which few hours later were attacked by UNSC. The chaine continued until he joined new pirate crew.

I had a really cool idea for your ship use the forerunner metal for the ship and every thing in the ship and even the weapons because the flood are very strong and you could use it for crew and here is a idea for you try making your own elite squad that stays planet side while one team in space also grab some elites and jackals and other Covent races for your crew so you can have a strong crew or different races also you might what your own AI for your crew i thing go with 3 one from each faction ( UNSC, Covenant, and forerunner ) Also love your videos keep them up you make me smile
Something which might be worth doing is keeping people who don't have any work to do in cryosleep while in space so they are not eating up resources
something else which could be cool would be putting a garage on the spaceship with some ground vehicles which you can send out to raid whenever you have landed
