@DJF yeah i hear ya bro the new supra and new AE86 was a big let down but those are the only cars i know they didnt build there engines eveything else they made from what i know ? If u know other engines they didnt build please let me know i would love to know
I was whinging at the 3cyl that is in the YarisGR, wishing it was a 4 banger. After seeing the size of those intake ports absolutely dwarf a non-vvti JZ motor, I am impressed as hell at the engine. Well done Toyota! 👍
@@fullboost No I haven't boys but I won't say no to an offer to drive one. 😉😉 Tbh Luke/Geordie, whenever I think 3cyl, it brings back bad memories of the Suzuki Alto and the other dirty, slow, NA 1.0L 3 bangers of the 90s, not this 1.6L big block of a 3 banger. The GTTi Charade was the only exception for me as a 3cyl, they were little weapons factory and even more so when done up and the YarisGR is a reminder, 30yrs later, of that GTTi level of greatness as a 3cyl. 👍
Those driveshsft nuts are supposed to be single use. We do have a genuine de-staker sst but a modified tang-through screwdriver works better for me. Trick is to centre the staked part on the shaft groove before de-staking. 360mm front rotors, and all Toyota's use advics calipers.
1:58........its not just direct injection.......the 1.6 l engine has both direct and port. it uses port injection during low rpms and then direct injection on higher rpms

This is excellent! Extremely fulfilling to actually "see" the different parts of this car which could otherwise be only "read" on drawings, CG or photos. Thank you very much for the amazing works. Love it❤🔥
Why did he say it was integral exhaust manifold and DI only?? The manifold is part of the turbo... not integral with the head and it has port and Direct injection.
Nice informative vid . Good luck to the aftermarket improving on some of those components . The integrated exhaust housing / manifold and the dump pipe look super neat .
Can't remember the acronyms but these cars use the audio speakers to cancel out unwanted driveline noises like noise cancelling headphones. And the audio unit also uses the speakers to generate sound waves to 'enhance' the sound of the engine. Either can be turned on or off. Has to be done with the techstream software though.
Yes, it's a stunning piece of work. Probably the best engineering in vehicles right now. The lightweight engine including valve train, as well as the lightweight gearbox and drive train and just beautiful. And then there's the body, carbon roof and all. It's exquisite, unless most, it's engineered to be worked on and strong.
When I used to do Honda 3 shaft autos, I learnt to not tap the stake up, or the nut would gall on the shaft. A tiny piece on the nut would take the thread right out. Ive been offered a track pak GR, but 74K in NZ!
One thing I've noticed working on fwd style Toyota's with those 12 point driveshaft nuts is they're all single use shafts and nuts as shown in the video.
So sad We cant have it in the states here. Would love to have one and also a second, but just the motor and trans and drop it into MK2 GTI just for the hell of it
Thanks for the Video. The bearing nut is the same on all Toyota. Using the ref. 09930-00010 is removed without problem. But you have to be careful not to deform the nut and keep it completely circular. Applying heat to the nut also helps
Toyota tech. I use a chape chisel punch that is the same thickness as the gap on the axle shaft and drive it in until the punched area on the nut is back to the same shape as the rest of the nut. I do not reuse the nut.
The only thing I care about is can VSC be FULLY turned off ? Not half or 80% ALL THE WAY OFF I am sick and tired of new cars pinching brakes to control the car.
yes you can by putting it into Race or Track settings and holding down the Traction control button for a few seconds. You can see when u put it into say track mode it has "Expert" label in the center screen after you hold down the traction control button it disappears and its fully off.
Nice car,but if was gonna get a hatchback id probs go with Audi S3.I know someone that has S3 and is a nice car apart from early waterpump failures.Toyota make some nice little cars but know for the cash will generally go something else.
S3 are okay, not great. That goes for Audi in general since the mid 2000s they dipped and just became VWs with a different hat and lost their identity.
Absolutely superb engineering Toyota can produce something really special when they make the effort.
When haven't day made an effort lol Toyota is very underrated
@DJF besides the 2jz cylinder heads what engines havent they made ?
@DJF yeah i hear ya bro the new supra and new AE86 was a big let down but those are the only cars i know they didnt build there engines eveything else they made from what i know ? If u know other engines they didnt build please let me know i would love to know
@DJF yeah so true well said
@@lecoureurdesbois86 yeah so true shits me how toyota didnt build there own engine for there car
Love seeing the ins and outs of a company like this and the work they do.
Cheers for the excellent content.

Have you driven one? The engine is stout.

@@fullboost Do know if Yamaha had any input into the cylinder head design ? They did the heads on the GSF/RCF V8.
Love how much torque is has in the lower rpm range

Schley 65420 is the tool you need to unstake the axle nut. Works most of the time for me
12:00 I've never said this ever. But. that's coolest hoist I've ever seen!
Have only seen one in person but the wife took it off my Christmas wish list the day I put it on there.
@@madmick3794 Bugger!
2:00 D4S both direct fuel injection and port fuel injection.
Wouldn't expect anything less on a car of this calibre.Superbly engineered after watching this stripdown.
Exactly. That was my pick up too. You'd think its easy just counting the bloody injectors.

Nice, but can it be Barra swapped.
2jz swap is already done, barra is not far away from it :)

freaking cool how they engineered everything in this new gr yaris.

Fantastic work guys l want to know so much about the way they engineered this GR4.
a must watch gr yaris video, thanks for this video!

Your work is absolutely amazing
Superb guys, carry on the great work. Top tip for the hub nuts, cannot believe that !
Great video!
Didn't you see it is dual injection?
Great content, late for work again! Thanks Luke👍
What is the engine dry weight? TIA
Great video! so interesting
I knew it was awesome from factory after watching Motive do a heap of "upgrades" on their yaris, and made it slower 😆🤣
I think after a bit of trial and error it's going a fair bit faster now
What and I’m waiting now a year for mine to delivery
Great video
amazing content! any insights on the dampers fitted from factory?
Where exactly do we hook when removing the engine
Amazing workshop that they have there. I hope to be stealing some ideas one day...
Great video as always boy's! Some nice engineering by Toyota I must say!
Cheers for sharing your great content!
Fantastic video guys. Love the NVH content and everything else 👍👍
Great video...Now i wonder how much would cost to transform a normal Yaris to GR...
GR is a bespoke chassis so it will be a challenge 😉
So sad We cant have it in the states here. Would love to have one and also a second, but just the motor and trans and drop it into MK2 GTI just for the hell of it
Who else thinks that engine bay looks wide enough for an LS? And a Powerglide *might* fit in that transmission tunnel.
Great video, I wonder where can I buy GR Yaris manual ?
Would you mind if you could share or find me manual book for the GR Yaris !
Looks like the suspension is made from VW parts.. I think that "lifting hook" is a tuned mass to dampen the fuel pump noise.
GJ Drivelines would be able to cut new threads & supply new CV nuts
Wow, definitely seems nice.
For some reason the curved vanes in the front rotors turn the opposite direction to current after market manufactures recommendations, go figure ???
will it pop a set ?
Thomastown high flow 🤣👌
All this talk about floppy hoses and small racks hahaha
Very interesting, thank you
What does the engine weigh ?
Thanks love your insights and videos!

Advics im pretty sure are a Japanese company, been around a while too no link to brembo. :()
"Here in Australia, where we actually make power"...
Yeah, thanks for reminding me that us poms have slow cars.
i still dont get what happened to the threads on the rear axles. Is there a way to avoid this from happening?
Yeah avoid it by not sending it with a rattle gun . There is a locking tab on the nut you need to lift before sending it
Toyota tech. I use a chape chisel punch that is the same thickness as the gap on the axle shaft and drive it in until the punched area on the nut is back to the same shape as the rest of the nut. I do not reuse the nut.
Lmao there is a special tool for the nut but I’ve had good luck with a concrete nail xD
It's not just direct injectors... they have both. Port and direct
DID HE SAY AT THE START A NOT SO GOOD WORKING CAR ... THE GOLF ..
Hmmm... I wonder if anything other than the rack has electric assist. Maybe Bob (battery operated boyfriend)?
Nugget yaris
Those axle nuts have been an issue since about 2003……. When I was a Lexus tech. They suck.
Love to bang one into a Mini Cooper. Wish they sold the engines as crate motors.
Neat!

So they are still using tape and that crappy plastic conduit for the looms that goes brittle and sticky... nice...
Inline 3s are notorious for being imbalanced
GR Corolla is coming, and it will be cheaper with more power using the same running gear and AWD
And heavier and slower :)
@@fullboost I doubt it will be that much slower, let's wait and see
300hp and 1360kg so should be around 5.2 like Yaris GR but will find out when released.

The GR Yaris proves that cylinders are overrated.

A shame about the design. They look terrible.
