In this timeline, the term Mortal Kombat doesn't even exist outside of Cages movie idea
In a way, its probably his sincerest form of gratitude. He seems passionate about cinema as an artform, as much as he enjoys acting. (from what I can tell)
From his perspective, the wealth and fame that came from his movies gave him so many freedoms, but also is what set him on this path. And because he enjoys it so much, he is trying to let other people experience it too, maybe a little too forcibly. (He may be thinking of it from the angle of "How many people can say they got to act in a movie, they could love it as much as I do" and he is repaying them with that offer.)
He just has too much of a one track mind. His heart is in the right place though...probably.
The fact that Reptile has the softest soul in this game is both wholesome and hilarious.

The little dialogue between Raiden and his crush on and Kitana is absolutely adorable. Especially the flustered facial expression across his face, it looks fantastic 💗
Honestly the facial animations in this game are a serious upgrade from the past games.

I have always loved Baraka and Mileena. It is fantastic not only seeing good in them and for them in the Story Mode, but also seeing Baraka become something of a tutor for Mileena with the Tarkat. Definitely reinforced my love for both.
Finally a proper established relationship & common ground between them & their most obvious trait of being tarkat. I mean this was touched on in mkx by mileena using the tarkartans to ambush kotal, but this was much more wholesome & mutual.
i hate it .they are villains not everyone needs a redemption/ good guy angle

This Mk is so friendly, it’s such a weird feeling but I love it. It actually really brings home the idea of Lui Kangs peaceful era
Is it weird I would rather see Rambo here than in the last game. The people here would help find him peace than dragging him into another war
I like the fact of mileena and barakas dialogues here, mileena is losing control slowly and baraka is trying to get her to control it before it controls her, that's something I'd never thought I'd see baraka do, actually warn or try to help those against the tarkat virus

…special note: Raiden’s change of facial expressions at the end of this compilation, when Kitana confronts him about his supposed interest in her. It’s a nice subtle touch, breaking the standard stone-walled facial expressions of the fighters squaring up and staring dead set at. Each other.

Reptile being uncomfortable playing a bad guy in a movie is something I didn't know I needed. Crazy something as violent as Mortal Kombat can be wholesome but I guess that helps to make the shocking violence even more shocking.
The fact that Mileena of this timeline apologized for her actions is something that would be foreign to her previous timeline counterpart

As a mileena main since the first I ever played (deception) it's so good to see her getting proper development. She always was just the scary kitana basically. Just there to fill an evil henchmen roll. Mkx gave her the closest thing to development ever.... and killed her very quickly in it
MK X ? Dude she was the same Mileena from MK Deception, playing the good daughter to please Shao Khan and after he died she wanted the throne. If anything MK 1 changed her.
@ghostpinguin "to please shao" shao was dead. No pleasing him there. And if you read. Really closely I said "the closest thing to development" I never said it was a massive change or wild. Just that it was the closest thing she got to being important to any story. And then they killed her.
I love the voicework on Mileena's apology to Kenshi. She sounds truly distraught to think about what she had done while maddened.
Also, love Kuai Liang and Smoke's relationship. Hope Smoke doesn't have horrible misfortune after horrible misfortune happen to him in this timeline like he did in the previous ones.
I'm hoping that Bi Han comes back as Noob and that Scorpion turns Cyber.
Then Smoke could be the new grandmaster with Hanzo Hasashi as the next scorpion.

The last dialogue between raiden and kitana amazing, raidens expression and the face he makes as if hes dodging the question is impressive
100%. The facial expressions overall are so good in this game, but that one in particular, is so spot on. Felt like I watching a romcom for a split second

I believe its cause the games writer clarified that All arcade endings and intro banter is meant to expand the world building making them canon to the future story
Yeah the dialogue is more reflective of the character relations and plot like MKX, as opposed to MK11's.

@@8-bitskullWhich is an absolutely fantastic way to set up future plot lines. We got the Cyber Initiative, the formation of the Shirai Ryu(and Hanzo Hasashi), Outworld’s upcoming civil war, and a bunch of other stuff.
While I miss the humorous interactions and wacky references the last game had (scorpion and spawn being one of my favourites, if you know, you know) using the interactions, especially the endings, help give the player an idea for where the story will go for the next games.

Kitana has shown to be the most humble and kindest person while still being elegant and beautiful I love the way the continue to improve on her character and her relationship with melieena absolutely love it

Most are, they're actually fun and what a lot of new fans tend to like them. Makes the character relationships memorable.

I'm crying this is so heartwarming. As a long time Mileena fan, I'm so happy she finally got the family and friends she deserved. But Syzoth definitely stole my heart, he's so well written and just adorable and wholesome.

I really like how they added more depth to characters in general. Seeing this kinder side of Mileena is incredibly wholesome.

I love the wholesome curious thematic ngl, the one with Smoke and Reptile when they compliment each others' powers is actually so cool i can't even properly describe it.
I love that raiden and smoke are just genuinely nice and wholesome dudes

The facial expressions eye movement, and the dialogue all work well in this game. it's especially noticeable with the last piece of dialogue in the video, with Raiden turning away and looking bashful, the nervous tone in his voice.
Word. Genuine ticks, admonished body language and natural durations of simply blinking is refreshing.

I’m so glad certain characters get to be good guys this time around. And that they are apologetic, sympathetic and genuinely want to do good despite what others think of them. Syzoth is awesome in this timeline too!😊
Yeah, I didnt feel it the same way in the older games, that the characters have a bit more defined morality, values, things the fight for and care about this time, as opposed to just only threatening each other, saying random things or the storylines being so divergent and vague that its not clear whats actually connected. I really like MK1 for doing what it did. Characters praise each other for their relationships, like Scorpion getting married. Tanya and Mileena saying they care for each other, Smoke and Kitana actually like Johnny's movies, Kenshi and Johnny being good friends, Kitana defending her Mileena from people who criticize her, etc. Its nice to see the characters actually feel like people.
Too bad that didn't happen with Bi-Han. They made him ever worse scumbag than he was before.

Genuine respect between characters is really hard to come by in this series, and I'm genuinely really happy to see lots of it this time around.
Love seeing Smoke having better recognition and you can see that he’s hasn’t really had a father figure until Liu showed up which is amazing considering the warrior he is

I'm so surprisingly happy how much the fanbase loves that the characters are mostly good and happy in their lives. Makes me glad the MK fanbase has evolved from the edgyness from the MK9 era.
Everyone deserve a rest. We already had super dark old canon with everyone being killed, then new canon with still alot of them dying. Now peaceful canon

I don't mind gory fatalities I just wish they were more practical and shorter.
I honestly love the brutalities way more. They just make more sense.
new era raiden is so lovable, excellent voice on the actor's part, and the animators did a great job at his facial expressions both in these dialogues and in the story mode. character-wise he's the lovable humble guy with all the strength that everyone loves and respects. they really brought the character around considering his past iterations
I will forever pove just how wholesome everyone is. Mileena, Baraka, and Reptile finally being fully good is amazing after the latter two were forever seen as jobbers on the villain side

I can’t over state how much I love the fact sindel, reptile baraka Melenna smoke and scorpion are all good guys!!! And I’d pay to see a movie with syzoth and baraka hunting szang tsung down! Those two as BADASS
Scorpion has been a good guy in MK X and MK 11 because he and Kuai Liang reconciled.
I do kinda miss Scorpion being a Netherrealm demon that redeems himself, but I much prefer how they made him and Sub Zero brothers. Plus he still has the rage in him when he unleashes it.

I never thought Kenshi and Johnny would actually have good chemistry with each other either. They go from somewhat disliking each other, to bros and Johnny actually doing something to help someone else. Even seeing Baraka, and Mileena as allies was new and nice. Kitana and Tanya defend her too now. She got a crew now, nice.🥰🥰
The fact that johnny cage calles him best friend if you select kenshi with cage as announcer is super wholesome

I love ALL of this.... A completely brand new narrative that is so... different to all of us who grew up playing a different kind of MK.... I am happy that this one has a lot of camaraderie involved for most of it in sweet 10 second intro before a fight.... Great going!

Smoke has been good for most of the series. Him being good again isn't new. Him being this wholesome though is.

Reptile was evil in MK9, but sided with Kotal Khan in MKX. This doesn't make him a good guy, but certainly not a villain either.
Baraka became good in MK11 when he agreed to hear Kitana out, and eventually sided with her.
Mileena being good, however, I agree.
Sindel is good,too.I hated her in previous games,but like her in this one.

Going from MK11 as my first Mortal Kombat to MK1 has given me a bit of whiplash; but goddamnit, it’s worth it! It’s so nice to see so many wonderful characters be truly happy!
I dont know why but i just love the one between sindel and kenshi 7:17 its just so humble and respectful from kenshi's side and genuine and remorseful from sindel.
Sindel acknowledging that one needs wisdom and compassion to rule a realm is unheard of before MK1. I love how NR remade everyone to be the best version of themselves (including the usual baddies), but in a way that made total sense. ❤️
Do remember that by default she was never evil originally. Timeline she was good but just brainwashed. Same thing till mortal Kombat 9 + 10 unfortunately she became a revenant so she was so evil for a while... It was mk11 though that while she still plays the role of a ruthless bitch excellent when brainwashed, it was really bad when they made it seem like is she was originally a ruthless person by default even without the brainwashing
for those who talk about facial expressions 6:42 is also a great example when kung lao looks up in the sky
I love how Smoke is a badass ninja warrior with supernatural powers, but he's so humble and nice to everyone!
i'm so happy that reptile is a good guy now, he was one of my favorite characters and it's awesome to see him fleshed out and actually important to the story
I think we all needed a cathartic cast of characters this time around. Everyone is so wholesome and I am enjoying the hell out of it

She always had a depth to her character that never was explored by the main story. From mk 2 - Armageddon she wasn't a bloodthirsty crazy chick, she was a failed experiment from shang tsung who wanted to be loved the same way kitana was by others. She found a family in shao khan, baraka and ermac and after shao's death, she decided to become ruler of outworld to keep her dads legacy and maintain the safety of those who didn't see her just as a monster, despite them clearly being the bad guys. Mk9 she was really the stereotype of bloodthirsty chick, and mkx she was going through the same arc as mk 5 6 and armaggedon, but they cut it short to kill her unnecessarily. As someone who liked mileena, seeing her receive the family and recognition she always wanted is heartwarming.
One of my favourite things from this game was the way Baraka and Reptile became heroes instead of throwaway villain servants
Good way to pay respect to characters that have been around from the very beginning
seeing Lui Kang's new era pay dividens is amazing, you can tell he tried to really give everyone a chance to find their own path and own peace. Those who aren't here are those who failed not because of Lui kang but because of their own choices.
While DLC/sequal stories will be rough at times I am hopeful to see most of these characters continue to bond.
Also which friendships in this where the most unexpected? Honestly for me it was the Mutual redemption arc support between Kenshi and Ashrah.

5:38 perfect back to back lines! I really like thisversion of Mileena, but if one of her closest allies, Kitana and Tanya, were to betray her or get killed in action, she would raise hell.
Yeah, I liked how she stood up to Ermac when Tanya was injured and said she wanted a turn to protect her, then she beat him hard. Especially because Mileena used to just get her ass kicked by everyone, she actually beats someone in defense of another person. That and Kitana even says if anyone tries to dethrone Mileena, that there will be unseen bloodshed. Kitana will lose it if someone tries to betray Mileena too.
To be honest, I'd be by this mileena side if she let hell loose after being betrayed. I can't possibly start to imagine betraying such a wholesome and carrying person as her.
The voice acting is some of the best there was in the entire series, but I particularly love the tiny details that you have to catch to notice. Kung Lao glancing up at his hat as it is being complimented, Syzoth looking to the side as he ponders what "kudos" are...genius details.

I think someone else said this on another vid, but I think Syzoth and Smoke got some of the best chemistry, apart from Smoke's Brotherly bond with Kuai of course

I love ALL of these! Love, support, encouragement, understanding, innocence….hell, I LITERALLY teared up at some of these 🥲 With every moment of MK1 I continue to observe, it only gets better and better!
My headcanon is that Liu Kang and Geras have put these fights in a time loop, where they can give it everything they have and kill each other, but be brought back with their memories intact. This is just to make me feel less guilty about the brutal fatalities after such wholesome dialogue

I still love how Reptile and Baraka are best bros, especially seeing as both are basically outcasts with Reptile being casted out from his people due to his ability and Baraka being a outcast due to Tarkat.

I do love how much detail is in this game. As for the clashes my favorite has to be with Kenshi on how, since he is blind he doesn't look at his opponent but rather points his ear towards them.
Raiden, Smoke and Reptile are way too nice for this game. It feels bad to see them get ripped apart and mutilated
I love how after 30 years of blood and gore, everyone is like "Awwww! Everyone is so nice!" Its refreshing.
I like how they just took everyone's ACTUAL favourite characters and just made them the good guys where it made sense to.
Man I'm so much more attached to these characters this time around. There is something magical about this timeline. I want an animated series, perhaps CG in the style of the games cutscenes. Several seasons giving us more time with these loveable characters, as well as giving us some view of their downtime together. Little glimpses of their friendliness is one thing, but there'll be time in a series where they could have more genuine downtime and we can see what that looks like.
I've never been a fan of fighting games, but i have kept up with MKs story and I honestly love that they turned former bad guys into actual good guys, because I always thought that Baraka was a dope character
Smoke is literally so wholesome bless his heart. I pray he gets a good ending in the next games
