- “It’ll never see the light of day…” So says the perplexed gentleman standing next to what we have just explained is the production version of a pickup with first deliveries at the end of the month.
But here it is, the new Tesla Cybertruck - less a vehicle, more an A-list celebrity, hounded wherever it goes. But you know about the hype already. What you don’t know, is what it’s like to drive. What it’s like to pilot a 3-tonne, 5.7-metre, 875hp spaceship around the roads of Los Angeles...
Fortunately, TG’s Jack Rix has all the answers - as well as an in-depth Q&A with the Cybertruck’s design and engineering bosses on the tortuous development story.
Clear your schedule, here’s 40-minutes on everything that matters.

Are stainless panels coated? Do stainless panels 'blind' other drivers in the sun more than other vehicles? (Don't recall hearing).. Are main gauges on HUD in front of driver?

The XMAX 300 is now at the top of my list for urban commuting. Great insights!

Even though I'm not a Tesla fan, I was riveted to the end of the video because of the way Jack delivered this presentation. I also usually stop watching whenever engineers and designers come into a video because they are just annoying drones trying to market the "design language" and all that blah blah blah. But Lars and Franz made me listen to them to the end. Theirs was actually quite a refreshing conversation. Great video.
True, I'm also no tesla or Elon's fan but I've to give it to Tesla that it changed the automotive industry. And cybertruck, even that it's just a gimmick it is an impressive gimmick. I cannot say that this is pretty car, but it's definitely different and that's how it supposed to be. And it only could come from a guy who is a manchild himself. As someone who lives in 'truck country'. Most trucks out here are just daily drivers and only very rarely do actual truck stuff. As a dairyman myself and owner of an F250 Powerstroke, I actually like the way it looks and for my usual
I'm sure you have truck owners out there who drive top-end F-250s and the most "work" it does is carry mulch from Home Depot. I have some around me - and I live in Brooklyn! The price of the Platinum ones is in the same range as Cybertruck, right? Like you say, a farmer can be a good fit with a Cybertruck, especially because you can plug it in at night.
I'm married into a family of dairy farmers and I love to spend time with them. They work harder than I ever did and the children turn out as top-notch members of society.
This is especially true for truck drivers as a whole, many (most?) of whom don't even live in the country. Saw them all the time in Austin. They'd be better off with a hatchback/crossover and just renting a truck for the two days a year they need it.
I’m a dirt farmer who really puts my trucks to hard use. I’ve got an F250 7.3 Stroker with almost a million miles on her and still going strong. I do love my trucks but if I was a suburbanite my daily driver would not be a truck, it’d be a Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing.

Yeah I really focused on the odd looks, but failed to realize just how much special engineering went into this truck. The stainless steel body should last forever, it can't rust, and it won't rust if you're driving it in heavy rain daily. Most trucks, they rust really bad which is why the old trucks are not on the road anymore, because they have planned obsolescence. The Tesla Cybertruck, if properly maintained, could effectively last for hundreds of years--which is why no other car has ever been "allowed" to be stainless steel. The genius of calling a coal powered car "emissions free" is genius. And then people buy into it, success. Let's not forget he's a car salesman.
@@roylcraftis the Cybertruck Emission free or not?
@@roylcrafthere in America we get less than 20% of our electricity from coal. We get as much from nuclear. We get 40% from natural gas. The other 20% is renewable, wind solar and hydro.
If you insist on saying it's coal powered im going to call it nuclear.
@@roylcraftstill 100% polish coal is better than gas.

Steer by wire is what was needed for the yoke introduction in the model S plaid...
Stupid question but at the end by the verdict piece how does that 2 blue Tesla's on charge have the same Reg Plate??
How far will a full charge take you when the temp is below freezing I hear it it's way less than advertised and what does salt on icy roads do to the battery over the long term.
Great review and interview with the team behind the Cybertruck at Tesla. Need more content like this.
The industrial process is the most fascinating thing to me. The machines making the machines. Also the philosophy. White sheet + physics laws & regulations & what do we want to see on the roads for the next 20 years. Big achievement from the designers & the Tesla engineers.
Robots have been making cars for decades.
Yeah nothing new, just more marketing lol. Ive been working in the automotive industry for almost 2 decades and there were robots building cars well before i got there.
@@__beer__ Now every automotive company is scrambling on copying the giga castings and other manufacturing processes Tesla uses
@@paulelledge8977 Using robots is not a binary thing. Some factories are more roboticised than others. Apparently this one rates at the top.
What on earth are you talking about?
I fully agree with the other commentators. The Cybertruck is an engineering marvel.
It is also the only off-road vehicle for which there is not a single review of how it actually performs off-road.
You only ever see it on flat, asphalt roads, mostly parked 🤔
Rivian kills it off road compared to most trucks and people drive Crown Vics in Moab so im sure it will do fine
And no spare tire or place to install a winch. I’m still buying one, but not happy that I’ll probably need to buy a complete new aftermarket front bumper assembly just to put a winch on.
Imagine bringing this to a behind the wheel driving exam lol
Im not a pickup truck user or a Tesla fan. But yet I'm still watching this intrigued 😂
One of the best reviews i have ever seen. The camera work and editing is top notch.
Watch Haggerty and have your mind blown
How the hell do you clean the interior wind shield?
With a rag on a stick
One catch, If it ever comes to the UK, expect pricing of £200,000 plus. (250k usd). That's based on the lesser model Y's £150,000 UK launch price. (Yes a model Y actually did cost 200,000 USD here in the UK )
Watching these engineers made me realize how a small fragment of humans provide a way forward for the rest of us.
I mean....there is quite a large pool of intelligent and inspired people. It's just not a lot of them are given the opportunity to grow and contribute based on where they were born and the access to education/opportunities. People tend to confuse education for intelligence and they are in fact not the same. Lots of intelligent people don't get the chance to give their intelligence wings so to speak. It's a shame because if we got our collective act together and created the reality we are capable of having we would be flooded with all kinds of Incredible ideas, inventions, applied sciences and what not. I would love to see humanities potential turned up to 11.
Those are „just“ the decision makers. There are hundreds and thousands of people below them executing this decisions.
@@jedimindtrix2142, not in our lifetimes...
True, but you forgot applied scientists (they benefit from not-for-profit fundamental science). Taken together, they are very small percentage of the total population.
Ev's are a way backwards. They were the first cars and eventually fell out of favour since gas is so much better. Even better for the environment.
Imagine, the co2 levels drop so low we all die of starvation because of the climate lie.
God has a funny way of telling us this is all a lie. These elites where going to fly their private jets, strange, I thought we need to reduce co2, but all their jets are frozen to the runway in Munich. Now how can that happen if the earth is warming?
I drew this truck when I was just a young boy. I think most kids that weren't great at drawing drew this truck! :) Who knew that we were engineering geniuses!!
A truck that fails all safety standards around the world apart from America. That says a lot.
What does it say? They won't sell it in those markets. There are many models sold in EU that are not sold in North America, it doesn't stop companies from selling and making money from those models. Also keep in mind that Tesla can repackage all the top flight tech into a more traditional mid-size SUV closer to 40k price point and people will be banging down their doors to buy it. Think of the CT as a testbed that can also make the company money. Don't judge this book by it's cover
