FIRST DRIVE: McLaren Solus GT - 858bhp V10, Single-Seat Hypercar!

- The McLaren Solus GT is a computer-game fantasy car made real. It started life in the virtual world of Gran Turismo back in 2017, but with rivals like Aston Martin, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Red Bull getting in on the track-only hypercar market, McLaren needed to up its game from the Senna GTR. Enter the real-life Solus GT.
There have been many changes from the virtual Vision GT to IRL Solus GT and - from our point of view - they’re all good. The biggest and most pivotal is the switch from the familiar McLaren twin-turbocharged V8 (plus make-believe electric motors for the front wheels) to a pure rear-driven configuration with a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine that revs to 10,000rpm. It produces 829bhp - or 858bhp with a ram-air effect at higher speeds.
Beyond that, the tub is carbon fibre, the suspension is double-wishbones all round and, oh, did we mention it’s a single, central-seat layout?!
Just 25 Solus GTs will be built and, of course, they’re all sold, at north of £3m each.

@@charlescabbage2933yes but just recently (about a year ago) did it actually get turned into a car, in the game it was only a concept, a shell, not actually engineered like a car would, just designed a outside body, so yes this is a new vehicle.

Sick that the triple f collection let you use their car
They have a history of generously sharing their cars. Many UA-camrs have come to their stable and more recently their private drag strip for runs. I am still waiting for them to do a meet up of some sort in Chicago where they have a home.
would be super cool (if they have one) to lend a valk so some journos could set some lap times! crazy that it's been out so long and only one lap time exists from this engima!

Ahhh I love V10s... We need more V10s, luckly Red Bull's RB17 isn't too far off, sure I don't have money to by any of them but it's still cool to see that they exist. Not to mention that this kind of car inspire new car enthusiasts and engineers, so soulful cars can't die, otherwise no one would be interested in them and the industry would simply die.

It sounds amazing. I wonder what is more of an experience to drive, an LMP2 car or this? The LMP2 car has the big benefit of being able to enter actual races
I love the Gulf colors. I'd also love to see some lap times with a top Le Mans driver compared to other cars.
One thing that would have made this even better is if they had a rev and spirometer reading to see how quick it was moving. Epic looking Machine.

This car is also a good opportunity for Judd to showcase what they are known for to a wider audience. They are probably the only ones building high-rev V10 engines now.
You can tell how brutal and fast this thing is by the onboard shots of his head kicking forward during shifts. You expect this with an inexperienced driver, but when a pro is in it you know it's legit. Similar to GT and Prototype cars if you pay attention.
