Ian is clearly the weak link technical-wise, but his vocals get the job done PLUS he also co-wrote all the songs with Squire, so he’s perfect the way he is. Shame they didn’t record any more albums while they were peaking in '89-'93ish. Music execs always seem to fuck up artists' creative peaks...
Fools Gold is one of those songs that has life all of it's own. You can't put your finger on why it is such a classic, but it is. It's like Manchester's "Hotel California."
It's catchy, danceable, has swagger and the vocals are unusual yet cool. Poppy yet has a little dark edge to it. Mellow but energetic. Plus fantastic musicianship without overdoing it. It's the perfect balance of everything that makes a great song.

An example of a largely recognizable bass line would be something along the lines of Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. Everyone knows it. This song doesn’t fit the bill. Nice bass line, though.

Sorry to ruin it for you but the drums are Clyde Stubblefield. It's break from Funky Drummer by James Brown. Not saying Reni isn't genius, as he proved with the rest of the Roses tunes.

I'm 48 & loved the house, acid scene days. I never went to the stone roses re tour. But seen Ian live couple of times and the crowd were was more into the music than here.

It circles in a sublime ecstasy that lingers for as long as the Reni's drum play into Mani's bass. At this point Ian takes it deep into one's inner self from mundane to ethereal and then it passes it on to John whose strings ring to the limit of pleasure... And the bass keeps bringing it back to the point of hypnotic dizziness... And the drums exhale taking it to a faster tempo... The dance tries to keep up with all of this raising it up to a scream. Yes it happens again and again... Adore TSR (Watch it in their new Movie - Much better sound...)
When youre 19/20 years old and you produce one of the most iconic albums in British music history then in my opinion that makes you awesome. Studiowise amazing! Live , most of the time not so good mainly because of Ian Browns vocals , but for any stone roses fan a delight to watch. Whatever floats your boat , I reckon !!

At 11:47 until the final note - Everything that was great about the debut, married to the short period when the band were funky e.g one love/something's burning ,plus the heavier second coming sound that had John Squire 'taking the piss' with his individual ability is summed up on IB's face as yes, he knows they are that Good!
The Last Guitar Hero - I can get on with that. Although completely different styles, imo. Marr was never a flashy lead player, and was a much more efficient rhythm/riff master. Of course, Squire is completely capable of writing his own riffs as well. I’d say Marr; Keith (Richards)::Squire; EC

Mani is far far better than he thinks he actually is. You just know it's Mani when you hear the bass.
