Just watched it through again - thank you so much for explaining where you are and the route in so much detail, to beginners Kinder is a big mysterious place and you help us all be showing the paths and names of places. About a year ago, I asked if anyone had a map with all the names on, but I know now that nearly all of them are actually on the OS map (apart from Chinese wall, I guess they are being PC?)
Thanks for that comment Phil, I deeply appreciate it mate.🙂 One of the things that I've always tried to do in my videos, is to include landmarks along my routes. I don't give a yard by yard description of the route, as I don't want to hold peoples hands, but based upon my own experience of watching other peoples videos, I do find it reassuring when I pass a landmark and I think to myself, "I remember seeing this on that persons video. I know that I'm on the right path now.", so I try to return the favour with my videos.👍
Cheers Rob and thanks for the feedback on the 4k footage.👍 As well as those 4 tins of McEwans, my mate also gave me a small can of Tequila & Lime which was 14%. Needless to say, when I did my closing bit to camera that evening, I was a little tipsy.🙂
Really enjoyed this video. 👌 The quality of the video looks great. Yep love it up there, and a pint of Nags . Love the tent for room and ease of pitching
Thanks Tim, especially the feedback on the 4K footage. Dammed bad about the abandoned tent up on top there. Disgraceful. It's too much to pick up on the start of a trek for sure. You found a good spot for your tent. And a decent pint at the Nags to end. Fantastic all round :) Cheers, Warren
Cheers Warren. At first, I thought that it may have been left there as some type of aid station for the Spine Race, to be setup later. Hi there great video once again I'm looking at the tarp star and I know that you like it can you tell me will it set up as one with ground sheet and inner left together or is it all separates and would you know it's weight altogether thanks
Thanks for watching Gareth.🙂 You can have it all bundled together (Fly, inner & footprint) for pitching. In-fact, this is how I had the tent arranged in my video when I first used the Tarpstar around a year ago now (Peak District - Derwent River Wild Camp). However, these days I tend to keep the Fly & footprint together, whilst I store the inner in a separate bag. The reason for this approach is because when I'm out on a multi-night/day camp, on occasion, I have to pack the fly away whilst it's still got some condensation on the inside, and I don't want it wetting my inner when packed. The weight of the Tarpstar 1's individual components are as follows... Fly = 500 grams. Inner = 450 grams. (Optional) Footprint = 280 grams. 👍
Looked like a lovely camp mate. I've not camped that side of Kinder yet. I have mentioned this before, but I do love the look at the Tarpstar. Seems like great value. Can you buy the two person inner separately do you know? I can see that there is a one person inner, although it's not available at the moment. Have you found any cons with the tent? What's it like in wind?
Hi Mark, both the Tarpstar 1 & 2 come with inners (a half and full pyramid inner, respectively). The inners on both can be interchanged between the two models of tent, as both tents are exactly the same size. There are a couple of cons with the tent... 1) Because of the mesh inner, I don't think that the tent is suitable for sub-zero temperature usage. 2) If the door is open when it's raining, then you get a triangular pattern of raindrops on the footprint at the entrance (not a problem if you don't have the 'optional' footprint). As for the tents wind performance. Pyramid tents are renown for this (if you google Pyramid tents, then this is usually the first thing which is mentioned about them). I would say that out of the dozen tents that I own, the Tarpstar 1 is my best tent for dealing with wind gusts.👍
@@trickofthetrail I told Alpkit about making an add-on solid fabric inner for the tent around a year ago. They said that they would pass it onto their design team, i.e. Feck off and go away lol.🙂 They should really consider doing this, especially as solid fabric is cheaper than mesh, they would make a nice profit. If a solid fabric inner was available for the tent, then I would have used it throughout last winter.👍
@@Hengists_Wild_Camps yeah it's so weird. Considering they're a UK brand, you'd think they would cater for our crap weather. 🤷 Seems a no brainer to me. The reason I purchased my latest tent is I wanted something ultra light that had a solid inner option. There just aren't many options on the market. Seems like a gap to me.
@@trickofthetrail I went all last winter carrying a heavier tent. I'd forgotten that a few years ago, I had bought a solid fabric winter inner for my original Lanshan 1... Doh!🙂
I totally agree mate. It gives us all, the real wild campers, a bad name. The only thing that I can actively do on my part to get the message across to a group of 18 year old kids having a laugh without thinking of the consequences, is to hope that they watch one of my videos and hear me banging on about Leave-No-Trace and that it sinks in. The alternative is to catch them in the act and then set upon them with unhindered fury and violence, but I'm too old and wise for that... especially after that ruling by the courts.🤣
