    Crazy as this sounds, I made a how to because this was learning experience for us. Only had the knob/dial style before. There are many steps for changing to/from h2 to h4. Hope this helps.

    Nice Video, I guess it wont hurt saying this for anyone watching in the future. Anytime you go in or out of 4L the transmission selector should always be in Neutral, if not you'll hear the gears in the transfer case grind. Additionally, 4L should be cycled every so often maybe every 1-2 months, this is so that the linkage does not get seized. Do not drive in 4L on pavement or normal road traffic as the speed range is too low and the drivetrain gets bound up due to the center differential locking 50/50 front to rear, causing wheels to chatter and possible breakage of the front CV Axles. It's also smart to cycle the RR Diff Lock when cycling the 4L as the actuator in the rear diff can get seized. This truck very much follows the philosophy of 'use it or lose it".

      nah tires are independent of the off roading goodies like crawl control and 4l/4h, I mean don't get me wrong. The correct set of tires plus those features are amazing but you don't necessarily need a "good tire" to activate those features.@@user-qi2ik6wf9v

    Probably should add, although it's not recommended to run 4Hi on dry pavement full time at full speed, it's ok to do it for a short time at low speed to make sure nothing seizes as part of maintenance. Usually an easy drive around the block will suffice to make the 4Hi system happy, then you can shift back to 2Hi.
    From the comments, they make it sound like you must drive to a dirt road to do your monthly or so of cycling the drivetrain so it can slip, but that's not the case. Because that wouldn't be convenient for sunny city folks.
    Same goes for 4Lo. Just go through the proper shift to 4Lo and literally crawl at 3mph for a few yards to get the 4Lo system happy, then go through the process to shift back to 2Hi and drive like normal.

    To clarify for anyone .. For 4L you have to be stationary yes... AND transmission in neutral then shift from 4H thru "N" on transfer and right into 4L , then back to drive to move. And in neutral to come out of 4L as well. Basically, for everyday snow driving don't bother with it at all, and just pull straight back into H4 at 50mph and below as you have already stated :- ) This transfer lever is more reliable than the knob type as one less electrical thing to go wrong and after trying it once or twice it becomes second-nature and it's learned. Nice vid though as yeah not many vids out there on this.

I'm having a hard time finding them. Everyone is showing simple stuff like heat control, volume control, come on... don't need that stuff, show me the unusual knobs people DONT have in most cars. I don't want to destroy my truck changing settings in it I shouldn't, but would like to know when and how to by SEEING it done, not reading it in the manual. • @Channelofdk
      @Channelofdk  Рік тому +1

      Driving here in Buffalo NY I’ve never had to use 4 low. There would be a cases for where ur stuck in deep mud or snow and need to “crawl out” need that low end power. Normal snow driving 4 high engaged is mostly what you need. I’d say if your stuck in a snow bank and cannot move at all. That is a good candidate to use 4 low. If your moving and going more than 10 mph 4high should get the job done. The manual gives good overview when and instances to use 4 low.

Can you provide link for covers.

    • @Channelofdk
      @Channelofdk  2 роки тому +1

      Awesome! Great its our first Toyota we love it. I would agree driving in normal conditions with 4x4 engaged will make steering rough and could cause extra wear and tear which could lead to damage. From my experience this winter I have used the 4x4 in both rain/snow mix and icy conditions for trips 20 miles plus and don't have any concern of damage, think the way 4runners and those 4 wheel drives with the "manual" shifting are made for heavy use. If you do get a chance to read the manual they break it down. The seat covers were from Amazon link below:

      Never engage 4x4 on dry pavement. It’s ok on dry gravel and some more rocky fire roads. The key is that the wheels must be able to slip. With that said, I would be weary about wet pavement unless if it’s a major storm. Again, if it’s not wet enough for the tires to slip…you may have issues

      You can, however most gearheads, myself included would not recommend driving with 4 wheel engaged under normal driving conditions. 1. Drives clunky meaning you lose smoothness of steering - you will feel the diff trust me. 2. It’s putting lot unnecessary stress on parts when in 4wd under normal conditions which can lead to damage and costly repairs. People will argue you can and can’t. Always best to use according to what the manufacturer says. I wouldn’t jam it into 4h doing 70mph up a hill on asphalt but if you follow the manufacturer instructions kick it up to 4h going 30mph, for short duration I wouldn’t say it would “break” anything. If you don’t need the grip for conditions leaving the 4h off I’d argue is best.

      Good luck trying to get one. They're in such high demand right now that they sell before they even hit the dealerships and if they do, they're gone in less than 24 hours.
      Gas isn't too bad and it's pretty normal for an SUV that size, I get about 21-22 MPG in mine, but I'm also not going over 70 MPH in mine. I add a little octane boost, and I use gumout complete system cleaner on a monthly basis. You'll see a big improvement in MPG if you clean the throttle body butterfly valve and airflow controller between each oil change.
      It also helps if you don't pile on a bunch of crap you don't need lol. Remember, it's going to be driving in the city 99% of the time hahahaha.
      I have a 2021 TRD Off Road myself, love it. But when I said these things are in high demand, I'm not joking. I waited close to 8 months for one, and then I lucked out when someone used one for trade with 24K miles on it.

      I believe high 2 engages all 4 wheels but more power comes from the rears…. But I’m not 100% sure honestly.

      Oddly yes. Brand new, 0 miles and from day 1 had light squeak especially when cold. Brought to dealer they replaced the wear clips and it stopped.
