You know the boat is a good safe work and living environment when crew care enough about each other to do ceremonies, to playfully prank each other without going too far and to look out for each other, however cheekily, during choppy seas.
Note to the drone "pilot" Gib is the most important military/naval base in that entire region thats why there was a no fly area. "He who controls Gibraltar control the Mediterranean."
They wouldn't be chartering a crossing in a vessel like Loon - the Neptune stuff is mostly kept to crew and I promise this ceremony was super light. Some of them can be a little harder on the stomach with the buckets of rotten food, haha.
@@geoffmolloy4264 Perhaps. But can you imagine what kind of Debbie Downer would turn down that baptism? I'm proud of my equatorial baptism. I still have the photos, and I remember having to throw all my clothes out after lol. It was disgusting but hilarious.
A previous video stated they carry twice the amount of fuel for the crossing. My assumption is the cost of fuel is cheaper in the US and Gibraltar than it is in the European ports around the Mediterranean due to taxes and supply. So top up when you can on the cheaper fuel.
Absolutely epic video by friends at Motor Yacht Loon. Really enjoyed the Atlantic Crossing. Dylan is really at his job and great narrator. Enjoyed seeing Captain Ben as well. 👍👍👍❤️
loons not that new in terms of when it was built, but as another youtuber i like says "salt water is liquid hate" anything you keep in or near the sea needs near continual upkeep if you want it prestine
I served on a HNLMS Holland (Royal Netherlands Navy) for 5 years. I guess no matter the vessle, we all do stupid stuff like this to new sailors. Love you guys
A well shot and produced video. I loved some of the shots and you didn't over do some of the events in this video that can make long time viewers of this channel feel bored with repetitive stories.
Tour all crossing ritual was better than mine. We had to go around the dec,Dec, on hands and knees while being pelted with slop and old eggs and then being slrayed with water. Qt the end we picked up a sardine with our mouth and tossed it overboard from the swim platform.
Obviously it did not happen in this video but having watched some previous videos I am curious at what seems a high turnover rate of staff on the boat. I am guessing it is the nature of the industry. Still, seems surprising there is not more loyalty to staying on one ship. Seems you all get along and would want to keep cruising together. Is the churn just part of the business?
I really enjoy the difference between the girls ("Let's mess with toothbrushes and toiletries!") and the guys ("Bring the hoses and the rotten fish!"). 🤣🤣🤣
I earned my shellback on an aircraft carrier so it was a bit different. We got beaten with firehose shillelaghs but that all stopped in the 90's. Anything to keep Neptunus Rex happy. I never should have left the ocean, but family life called more than her.
Question and I apologize if I missed it somewhere, with a superyacht of this size, do you have to worry about the Orcas when you are coming in to Gibraltar?
On my trip sailing solo from Gib to Port Saint Louis took me about 10 days. I got a fire on board which I managed to extinguish, due to tiredness I ran in front of Garrucha on a bank whilst sleeping. Therefore I never made anymore a calculation of time and speed.
What surprises me is how long it takes the Loon to make that crossing. Apparently it isn’t as fast as commercial cruise ships. I mistakenly thought it would be faster.
Forgive me if I get the name incorrect but curious about the training of Dean ( the chef?). What is his training and how does he plan for all the provisions he will need?
If you ever need some assistance with a crossing, like maybe back to the Caribbean. Just give me a hollar, I work for food, I can take care of all your fiberglass or metal repairs. I have over 40 years of quality experience in automotive repair. Not the hack guys you see and hear about. I know what I'm doing. Just about anything, I'm a beggar. Lol on serious note, love this channel and huge respect to every member. It looks like fun, but I know in reality it's a lot of really hard work. God bless all of you and stay safe.
It probably isn’t that special to a yacht chef, but to our family (cat cruisers), Morrisons is the holy grail 😝 Once in the Med, the cost of provisions (and sometimes selection) are horrendous, so we stock up in Gib.
Dylan is a natural presenter, he works so well infront of the camera.
Totally agree. Clap
A lot better than the normal one…
@@casparberends2719 Right! so much better than the normal guy who replaced the original.
Yeah, vote for Dylan as well! Good job 👍
Lmao you guys are cruel. Just shut up and watch or unsubscribe, it’s not the Oscars

Shut up nerd!
I love seeing the camaraderie with the crew and the fun they have together...that makes all the difference!
Livestream yesterday and a video today! You are spoiling us.
😘
Imagine chartering Loon for an atlantic crossing and they pull you out of the master cabin for this haha. Guest or not. Poseidon must be pleased haha.
The ceremony of crossing the line is totally voluntary.
They typically don't charter crossings

I’m retired Navy, a Blue Nose and Shellback! God bless maritime traditions!!!
You don't see many bluenoses/rednoses out in the wild! Thank you for your service. Hope your shellback ceremony wasn't as barfy as most, haha!
I have heard about the shell back 😂😂😂😂
Love seeing a fellow Canuck taking you back across the pond. Clear skies and following seas.
Did Captain Ben say you need to fuel? Didn't you just get like 4 truck loads?
Those 4 truck loads were over 4000 miles ago
A previous video stated they carry twice the amount of fuel for the crossing.

A very natural video that shows what a great team Loon has great job Dylan
Great video... Nice to meet the new crew... Great job Dylan .... Dean is also an amazing presenter.... enjoy the FYI chats with crew...
Really enjoyed that guys, so well made . Seems like quite the adventure, and "just another day in the office " , wish I could swap offices!!
Incredible professionalism. Surprising how detailed housekeeping has to be all the work behind the scenes really makes this boat a real treasure.

What surprises me is the amount of paint maintenance you you have to do on such a new boat.

Each of you on the video filled my ❤ with such happiness. Many thanks for sharing your adventures. ❤ from Florida 🤗
At least Dylan hasn't joined the Lost drone club yet. Another great video. Thank you all 🩷🩷
I did not expect to be laughing that much seeing a Superyacht video. Great work! Love the crew and the boat.
I love this crew they are amazing!!!!!!
Dean you made me smile the Aussie quick meal cooked chooks and rolls 😊🇦🇺
Great job Stephen! You're killing it and spoiling us with all the content.
great edit! love the drone recovery bit, glad it all worked out.
Great stuff, twice in the same day. Love it, even though its very late 🤣😂🤣😂
Who edited this video? Fantastic transitions and very well done!

It is so bizarre that you are in the middle of the Atlantic, and the water is so smooth!😮
Did Loon need a pilot to enter/exit Gibralter harbor? Also, I second Dylan doing a great job of filming and narrating!
Steve, conveniently on vacation for the crossing, huh? Missed your initiation. 😂 Will you be on for the trip back after Med season?
I am sure he will get his chance next time lol. I totally forgot that he left for vacation.

Excellent crossing the line ceremony, top marks!
Wow, part 1 and part 2 were great. The crew interviews were great.
Amazing that HUGE body of water can get so calm

Morrisons is the first place Brits head to when visiting Gibraltar. £27 Ardbeg whisky is top of the shopping list. 🥃👍
Well done Dylan great job.
I’ll remember that tip about fresh produce the next time I take my mega yacht across the ocean
Thanks for part 2, I really enjoy you guys and love watching tour journey. Thank again ❤
Great shots of Maderia, and getting your drone back, I had to do something very similar once, you stayed pretty cool. Thanks for sharing your journey.
With many crew rotations, who will be on for Croatia?
Cheers Dylan great to meet you today. Seamus the old guy from Glasgow
I really enjoy the difference between the girls ("Let's mess with toothbrushes and toiletries!") and the guys ("Bring the hoses and the rotten fish!").
🤣🤣🤣
US Navy vet and shellback love the ceremony!
Another awesome, awesome video. Please tell us what kind of mixed up food or whatever was in the big cooler.
Love, and prayers from Colorado.

Wow I’ve heard King Neptune was quite brutal back then..
So much fun! Love seeing all the crew!
Nice job everyone!
Thanks Pengu 🙏
Great to see you in Morrison's. I think everyone goes there as a rite of passage.
Do you ever encounter pirates and if so how do you handle that situation? Love your videos!
We Arrrggh the Pirates 🏴☠️
Ohhhh me buckingears
Great crossing and the equator crossing bash. Morrisons the crappiest UK supermarket chain Aldi is far superior
Thank you guys⚓️❤️⚓️
Interesting video, thanks. I nte that with all of the electronics and computers, you still keep a written log!
shout out from south africa
What a great crew! ❤ from Amsterdam
Working on a piece of art, just breezing around the planet.
Well done Dylio!

Haha no we don’t have to worry about them. But it’s crazy what they are doing
I saw this boat passing closer to Madeira Island, Im from the island a local skipper

Why is Page no longer on Loon?
I was looking forward to the rough weather and how you deal with that. Bummer!
We try to avoid rough weather as much as possible
you should get hold some ethyl sorb tubes for your walk in fridge. they keep veg / salad / fruit fresher for longer
Incredible thumbnail!
Beautiful.... ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful
Before making your crossing, do you have to file your sailing plans with anyone as in flying an airplane?
👍✅ thanks guys, great as always👏
CAN WE GET SOME GREAT RADAR FOOTAGE?????? THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!
Enjoy your video of life at sea 🌊
I can see why Loon is one of the most sought after charters. How many repeat charters does Loon get?
Nice to see our Cisco phones are used on the ship. Upgraded models are available ;-)
proper save with the drone haha
Great vlog…go Loon…Nord Norge

We can put the hammer down if needed otherwise it’s just unnecessary fuel burn so we take it economically 🛥️🐳

Who won the contest on the number of other ships you pass this crossing?

16:15 - 7:05 Hilarious. You've flown your drone too far mate and have to land it in some scrub and retrieve it before the local kids nick it. Classic
Cool people. Nice boat. Neat video.
Fantastic 💖
There’s also the ancient mariner “pass the falafel” ceremony at the halfway point. Not many people are aware of this.
Is it scary being on that huge ocean by yourselves, or do you usually travel in convoys?
Excellent!
Great video
In the US Navy, we celebrated crossing the equator and Arctic circle
I became a golden shellback on the Carl Vinson during WESTPAC 96’
@@Rob_S_Z06 Fantastic.
Great stuff all!
After such a long trip across the Atlantic, does the crew experience land sickness when they first step off the ship?
What's the purpose of the telescoping foremast? Random shots show it extended, others retracted.
Is this just a crossing the Atlantic initiation? I became a Shellback on a US Navy ship in 1989 lol very similar
Wow! Super crew hazing! 😢
You crossed the equator going from Miami to Gibraltar?
What speed a super yacht use for cross the ocean ??????
Any video on meal prep during rough seas?
Brilliant!!
Next November, when you're back in the States, when you go diving and sper a lion fish. Clean it and eat it they are good eating.
Glad you got your drone , how much fuel did you take on ?
Respect 🫡⚓️
I hope you blessed the SHELLBACKS and Neptune with a tot of rum
I'm guessing a full tank of diesel for this yacht is $100K+ USD 😊.
