Today's card features the wily Wolf, taking on the nefarious Needle Blight, with both combatants primed to take their shot at advancing through to the semi-finals!

The higher initiative really decided this one.
Yeah, if the wolf had won initiative, or if that first attack hadn't hit, chances are the wolf would have won with its higher AC, to hit and damage modifier (melee dice were the same).
Absolutely. This was one of the closer match ups in terms of similar statistics, could definitely have gone either way, but the dice gods had their say!
Are the finals going to be a best of three?
Yes! I think that’s the best way for the finals to go down for sure.
Alas, poor wolf had everything against it in this fight. Not only does the needleblight have an almost unfair amount of damage in its ranged attack, it HAS a ranged attack and of course, it won the initiative, if the wolf had started it would have had a decent chance.. Perhaps a dark horse for the tournament..?

The wolf was up against some insane odds after losing the initiative roll.
And the shear output the Needle Blight is capable of dishing out is pretty crazy for the CR level. (That first attack could have dropped a 1st level player character in one hit!) Will be interesting to see how it continues in the contest!
But yes, alas the wolf simply wasn’t quick enough off the mark today. I’m sure it’s dire cousin will have heard word of this tragedy and will be looking to reaffirm the name of wolf!

The Needle Blight just wanted to branch out in its combat career and had to prove that wolfs bark was worse that it’s bite!
Yup and that’s a perfect example of how winning initiative trivializes a combat when you can have two actions attacking before your opponent it’s a walk in the Park!

A switch around in the initiative order could have very easily changed the outcome here.
Your bracket pairings are terrible.
Dice rolls decided them initially, this is a quarter final round pairing two victors from previous combats.
Sometimes the matchups will become skewed, just the nature of the format.
