Morning Doug, Great update. I do agree, one day off would make a major difference. Many ships I believe are still working with less staff than before. I remember when cabin stewards had assistance working with them, now they work alone to service up to eighteen plus cabins. Hopefully the industry can work something out.
Morning Doug, Tampa here. What a great idea, for the crew. I've worked with crew in Tampa for many years, and their schedule while on board ship is just demanding. It is 24/7 and contracts are up to 9 months, of course unless you are an officer. IF, you can get off the ship at 0800 to do your shopping, you have to be back on board for your shift by 1200. WOW, not fare for the amount of time these people bust ass for the guest, and the little wages they receive. My vote is for THE DAY OFF ! Lets all push for our crew members to have extra time off.
Good morning Doug....thank you for reporting ....praying for all those needing medical assistance 🙏🏻 I do agree… If there is any way that a crewmember could have one day off a month it's my opinion that it would be for the good of the crewmember and the good for the cruise line!!
Coast guard, unsung heroes! Crew have some hours off, you can see them off ship sometimes. Though 1 full day may be great as well. Hope more people wash hands & use paper to open doors. Great Monday report Doug
Regarding crew days off…I was told by our room steward on Princess that the comment cards left in our cabins on the 2nd day & also toward the end of the cruise help determine if they get time off. Fill out those comment cards people! Our stewards work hard…they deserve a little down time.
And some people still think the crew doesn’t deserve gratuities and have them removed. They work so hard; I can’t imagine working the hours they do and still putting on a smile.
I just got off the NCL Encore transatlantic that had minor issues coming out of refit as the work wasn't quite done. So there was unwarned noise onboard of finishing the work of refitting 26 more cabins e.g. by reducing the Observation Lounge by jackhammers and such; and on Friday the 13th they had a pipe burst and lost hot water for much of the cabins on the last two days. Coulda shoulda allowed for a bit more time in dock maybe.
You understand 900 + Crew and trying to do that in a Month is a Job in itself.. Nice but I don't see it WORK ABLE .. And I was Off Working a Plumbing Job on My Days off. Just Saying...
@RaymondMullen-t9j that's about 30 people a day or 1/30 th of the workforce. Not all days off would be on port days. It might be difficult but not a full time job. Each division could do the scheduling for their crew.
The crew are great workers ! They are not slaves! Give them a day off= less mistakes, good morale, better mental and physical health and more smiles. Believe me, WE notice when the crew are not happy!
Mornin' Doug! That's quite a news round-up. Seven days a week for up to nine months is a pretty tough gig. Not sure how you would staff a day off for each each crew member each month, but it doesn't seem like an unreasonable ask. I suppose though, as long as they can get enough people to sign a contract for 7 days a week for the whole time there's not a lot of incentive on the line's part to offer something different.
The idea of lobbying for one day off per MONTH gives me a new perspective on God's gift of Sabbath, one day off per week, to His people after freeing them from slavery in Egypt. Thanks for sharing this story, Doug.
Cruise lines need to give its crew MORE than one day off a month. How many Americans would want to work at a place that gave no days off for months at a time. Raise the prices! Treat the crew better!!
All these outbreaks seem to be on ships with older demographics. They’re more likely to be vaccinated, which, from a lot of anecdotal evidence seems to weaken one’s natural immunity. I too have found this to be true in my circle of friends and acquaintances.
Guess no one told you about what’s been happening on The Ruby princess!!! Pipes burst in our room got bronchitis then lockdown for Gastrointestinal virus! No one on ship had gloves on from the start of the cruise and we got sick from them 🙏🙏 yet no discount refund nothing!!
Yes crew members should get time off but your logic of covid is flawed. First off, covid was blown way out of proportion. But even if it wasn't, it's not impacting people's health now.
Well, as good as that sounds to get one day off a month who would replace those people and one of the things that you know when you sign a contract with cruise ship there are no days off you only get hours so if these people don’t like it then I suggest this is the wrong job for them😮😮😮😮😮
Morning Doug,

They definitely should get 1 day off a month. That seems like a very modest ask!!! It should also be a paid day off!
Morning Doug
Prayers to all involved with health issues.🙏 Ty for your updates.Have a wonderful Monday 😊
They need at least one day of a week not a month they are humans not machines
Damn. How about one day off a week at least? That’s crazy! 😮
Yes, crew should get a full day off, and the incremental cost should be paid out of the CEO's benefits, not another cruise price increase.

Happy Monday Doug! Crew members deserve a day off, not only do they work hard, but sometimes, they have to deal with rude and demanding passengers.
First glance at the thumbnail image and I thought the ship on the right was on fire.
And some people still think the crew doesn’t deserve gratuities and have them removed. They work so hard; I can’t imagine working the hours they do and still putting on a smile.
1 day off a month seems totally reasonable. I 100% support that!
Great piece. Good luck to the movement to get a bit more time off for crew members. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Thanks for the info!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching !
Good morning Doug thanks for the updates 👍
You’re welcome Andrew.
Morning Doug. Thanks to the news. Prayers to all involved with health issues.
Good morning thank you Doug have a great day
Have an amazing day Tatyana.

God bless them all 🙏🙌
Once a month, I do not think they are asking too much😊
The Coast Guard does a Fantastic Unsung Job for this Country .
24 Hrs off , would be nice ,But that's a lot of Crew & Down Time .
Good am Doug.
How many full days do you get off a month ? Full time employees in the US usually have at least 8 and if working 12 hour shifts it's more.
I Retired after 30 Yrs
as a Fire Fighter ,24 Hr
on & 48 off,& Work a
Part-time Job .
@RaymondMullen-t9j i find it strange that someone who had so many days off a months would think 1 day a month for crew members is a lot of down time.

9months 7 days a week yeah 1 day OFF a month at LEAST
The crew are great workers ! They are not slaves! Give them a day off= less mistakes, good morale, better mental and physical health and more smiles. Believe me, WE notice when the crew are not happy!

For Noro virus, have people forgetting basic hand washing and covering you mouth if you cough or sneeze?
So, what's going to happen to the passengers when they have their day off?
Asking for one day off a month, they so much deserve the gratuities given them.
The crew deserves a day off a month. They work hard.
I think that's a reasonable request for a 1 day off a month.
I strongly believe norovirus was also on celebrity reflection this past week. A large amount of people where sick.
I WAS ON HAl..FOOD YAS NOT AT CORRECT TEMP!
GOT SICK OFF SOME FISH.
TRYED TO SAY A GASTRO THING GOING AROUND!
BS FOOD SUB PAR...
DOG FOOD!
Yikes. CDC site says noro. But you were there, not me. I hope you didn’t get sick.

You’re welcome Sue.

I totally agree all cruise members needs a day or two off and so they all can rest etc especially for their health 💚☃️🎅🏻🎅🏻💚💚💚❄️❄️❄️☃️☃️☃️🎁🎄❤️❤️💚🎄🎄
Definitely the crew should have a day off - they work long hours, and often have to deal with rude passengers.
I think they should get more thin one a month how about one a week.
Yikes. Give them a 6 day workweek. Geez
I'm all for one unpaid day off a month.
Have you heard about the death (allegedly suicide) on the Carnival Sunshine out of Charleston December 2-12??????
☮️☮️☮️
What is so f-ing difficult about washing your hands so others don’t get sick? Boggles my mind…
🛳🛳🛳
it's from the food it's disgusting wouldn't even feed it to a animal
Ask 1 question
Were they VACCINATED
THE ANSWER IS YES
No more NATURAL IMMUNITY AFTER COVID VACCINES
Not even sure what the heck you're talking about
All these outbreaks seem to be on ships with older demographics. They’re more likely to be vaccinated, which, from a lot of anecdotal evidence seems to weaken one’s natural immunity. I too have found this to be true in my circle of friends and acquaintances.
Did you purposely use a picture that some may see as a ship fire? Hmm
Great job coast guard for saving those people on all carnival cruise ships 🎄🎁💚🎁🎁🎅🏻💚☃️☃️🎅🏻🎅🏻❤️❄️❤️❄️❄️
They were on Royal ships not Carnival 😂😂😂
The first cruise I went on we had to stop twice to drop off deceased passengers. Good times!
The CEOs all work 7 days a week. That's how they make so much money. Don't take away their right to work!
Crew members should get one day off Atlist a month because after Covid human are not healthier like before
Yes crew members should get time off but your logic of covid is flawed. First off, covid was blown way out of proportion. But even if it wasn't, it's not impacting people's health now.
