Wow, wallpaper ... thought that went out of style 40 years ago? I think that's My Dad and I ... hehe Thank you for the peak into this ship, probably not on my top 10 list for ships ;)
I did that to a coworker 5 years ago. I got to work at 6 am on Christmas Eve to pull it off. Also blocked off his cubicle door with wrapping paper so he had to unwrap his cubicle just to get to his desk.
The scary thing is that just 4 yrs ago a team of people agreed this interior decor was a great idea and a great look...... I literally just couldn't sail on that. Goodness gracious.
I was very surprised this decor was only 4 years old…my goodness, looks to be from the 1970s except it’s not flocked but it does look like wallpaper. But those were only accent walls back then, not every surface. I caught your remark about it being hard to clean….rather, it would be impossible. That’s a major ICK factor.
Not a great combo if u suffer at all with motion sickness. The patterns alond would start making your eyes weird which usually sets off the nausea. As for me, I suffer with vertigo and no way could I deal with that
"And I hoped I wouldn't feel claustrophobic" Is it just me or does the wallpaper somehow make it seem even more claustrophobic than my brain knows it is? I know its not a HUGE room but that pattern makes it feel even smaller than it is.
I've had a couple of those in my lifetime and they aren't a fun experience. I never thought of the decor as a possible trigger. I'm sorry that you get them.
As a person who loves seeing things that most people don't when travelling (quirky stops, weird events, etc.) being at water level would be a blast. Seeing the stuff growing on the dock walls and the occasional crab walk by would be awesome.
I love that too. It reminds me of being in an aquarium. I wouldn't feel unsafe or exposed on a river boat, but I can imagine being in the ocean with a window could be creepier.
You were incredibly diplomatic about the decor of the room. I am not sure I know anyone who could put up with it and it is incredible to think that a reputable company thought that was the best thing to do. On the upside, during the night with the lights off and your eyes closed it won't be so bad.just the he'll of waking up to it in the morning.
That decor is overwhelming, looks like something from a 70s Vegas hotel. It really could have done with some contrasting solid colour walls to tone things down a tad.
Wow now that's quite a cabin design! Shame about the ineffective cabin blinds / fixed beds but looks like a river cruise I'd like to try! Excellent video as usual Emma :)
Emma, you have a wonderful, and all too rare, ability to acknowledge an issue, move on, and then then acknowledge the positives. Love your positive attitude that seeks so hard to be informative and positive. It’s uplifting to see your reviews and then to strive to keep that approach to life.
Many years ago my late husband and I did a RiverCruise on this lower level. It was white exciting in an odd way. We had a Lord and Lady also on board - no doubt as invited guests. My husband and Sir bonded on first day during an outing and from then on they tended to drift towards us which quite upset table seating. Lady whatever asked to see our cabin and was fascinated. My husband had a perfect radio voice and maybe they felt we were grander than we were.I had just begun to learn bridge and was invited to make up a table and discover my partner was a National player. What I am saying is do not judge people by their accents or clothes on a cruise like this as you just never know ! I have been on many river cruises since and I kind of preferred the underwater one.
Great story and so true. We met a gentleman on the QM2 not long ago, we were in a. regular cabin and had breakfast in the Britannia restaurant with him most days he was an author and a politcal advisor in the White House during the Nixon era very low key guy but a delight to chat with.
"We've over ordered the wall paper, we'll have lots of it left...." three hours later.... "where's it gone???...." "dada! problem solved". That cabin wallpaper must be the first circle of hell.
they like like something used in Upholstery, my dad was an upholstery by trade and we did have a couple of upholstered doors at home growing up - my school friends thought it funny, i just need to add they were plain colours and not the same as the wallpaper
Why do people keep joking about the 70s? Anyway, while they went way too far on where the wallpaper went, the pattern itself is quite lovely. Personally, I would’ve preferred a more golden-yellow color for the wallpaper.
I think that if I had to look at that pattern all over everything I'd need padded walls. And maybe a straitjacket. I love that the headboard had a perfect spot for Captain Hudson to sit.
Just wanted to let you know that my very own Captain Hudson arrived yesterday. He is so cute sitting under my Christmas tree. All my cats have enjoyed spending time under the tree. Also, I am happy to help support Mercy Ships.
Not even if it was just $1 per person per room. That wall covering is untenable. Just looking at it makes me nauseous, but then I am someone who is challenged with sensory overload of which that room is nothing but
I can still see the patterns even after finishing the vid 🤣 - as always, another awesome vid, Ms Emma - I do have a suggestion about the hot weather - get yourself a personal cooling fan that you can easily charge up, it kinda looks like a headphone you wear around neck - it helped me immensely on my trips to Southeast Asia 😊
Having just sailed on a river cruise with another company, I can't believe how different this ship is! We had a Uniworld ship attach to us to dock at one of our ports, and I was dying to sneak across for a look - now I wish I had - they look awesome!
I had a river cruise in a cabin at that level and, while many people at higher levels complained of the heat in theirs in the hot weather, I found my cabin really comfortable, which I took to be from the cool water outside. I also enjoyed having swans peering in the window at me at times.
I went in a cruise with my wife and we had a cabin down by the waterline on the Med, I liked the view down there, the water sloshing over the porthole was quite relaxing.
6:23 .. These are simply called "Upholstery Tacks" or sometimes "Carpet Tacks" .. They are functional as the name implies, physically holding the fabric to the wall ... And OH!! :Another pretty dress!! ... It suits you well :)
The waterline cabin interests me. I think it would be fun. So long as the seas aren't too rough! But that wallpaper is *a lot*. If one wall was done as an accent, that would've been fine. It's good to know the A/C worked perfectly.
The pattern in that cabin is something else. It is even on the back of the closest doors 😂. I personally think that little window is pretty cool looking.
The only thing that makes sense is 1. They are hiding something terrible underneath in the worst way possible 2. Designer is blind 3. This is some sort of covert test on the mental impacts of excessively claustrophobic designs
3:20 No.....just no, no, no, no! It's very 'busy' indeed. Very busy. Waking up after consuming many Cointreau's and ice the night before would be an interestingly nauseous affair to see that wallpaper everywhere. Our lounge room in 1972 had the exact same wallpaper, except it was that 70s 'Olive-Green' colour. But on the plus side, all those padded walls will spare your fellow cabin neighbours the extent of current miasma/predicament! Seriously, no, just no. Once it is seen, it can never be forgotten.
Oh my... the pattern! 😳 I would find it nice for maybe a throw pillow or even the curtains but... sometimes less is more! It wouldn't be to my taste, but I'm sure it is to someone's taste! Was still fun to see, though! Thanks, Emma!
Wow, those fabric walls were a DELIBERATE choice in 2020?! Can't believe you couldn't even get relief from all the craziness by looking at the ceiling. Maybe that's why these staterooms are underwater -- that way they know you can't throw yourself overboard when it become too much.
We have only done 1 river cruise. All the others were sea cruises. We really loved it. It was with Riviera cruises. We were on the lower deck, but the water never came over the windows. It might not have been as "posh", but it was not austere. It was lovely. It was definitely one of my favourite cruises. @@CatMom-uw9jl When my teen came in a month ago complaining about "some horrible story about a woman and there's this wallpaper and..." both my husband and I - who were both Lit majors - immediately said: "Oh God just stop right there please."
I was a Lit. major as well. Recently I ordered a book of "a selection of the world's best short stories". I couldn't believe The Yellow Paper was included .. as well as Bartleby, the Scrivener"... REALLY??? Neither are my favorites.
In a cabin at the water level ,you get a unique opportunity to see the world in a different light as you see it from the ground up instead of from the top down and the sunsets and sunrises would be something special and unique as the light hits the water .
Oh wow. That wallpaper is the last thing you need with a hangover. I have seen the You tube clip of the collision. Hope you enjoyed it anyway. Robbie x
"Upholstery nails are more and more an element of design." the manufacturers said 😊. I enjoyed being taken on that river cruise ship and sail through the lagoon 😊.
I hate, hate, HATE all the patterns in that room! Oh, did I mention that I hate it? This ship definitely looked better before it was refurbished! They totally changed it from classy and elegant, to some tacky clusterfuck that really looks like if migraine was a room
Even though they went way over the top with where they put the wallpaper, the pattern itself is quite lovely. It’s designed in a classy and it’s floral look is nice, and it provides a hint of royalty.
@retroryan838 Agreed, there's just too much of it. It should have been just on the walls, or even on just one or two of the walls. The way it's done in that room just makes it look like a 5 year old went nuts in there, or maybe the room got wallpapered instead of toiletpapered during Halloween
I like it. I stayed in a same level room pre refresh. Was nice and airy and loved the water noise slapping against the hull. This was in Germany and we traveled to a new port just about every day. The food was good okish. There were many crew on that water line level which I liked.
I think the privacy beanbag is such a good idea because the weight of the beads would hold the bag onto the doorknob if the boat was rocking a lot and at risk of slipping onto the floor.
2005 Haruki Murakami black LV Speedy 30, near mint, from a pawn shop in the bay authenticated (but girl, I knew it from the pictures). I snagged it for $1000 while all the others were gone!! I hope itâs not haunted!! Haha!! Look at this, so chic!!!
OMG, that wallpaper is hideous! That would make me more seasick than the waves! Due to the low windows with waves splashing on them, this room is Perfect to prank your roommate via dumping water on them in the middle of the night! lol
Oh my gosh! The pattern in your room is horrible! That would have given me nightmares. I took a Viking Cruise in 2017 and it was amazing and the rooms and ship were lovely. Wonderful trip!
These river cruises are so expensive but the whole point is seeing the scenery and I would not want to have that little window. I don’t think it’s worth going at all if you can’t get a decent view. Unfortunately, they are all out of my price line.
At the harbor by me, one of the whale watch boats costs more. It has windows in the bows (catamaran) at and below water level. You can sit there and get an above/below water view of the dolphins as they ride the bow wave.
Who on EARTH designed that horror show?! Jeez it looks like tv interference in drag! I do like how fair you are with the review though. How awks for you and your dad! I agree with you that the ship looked better before the refit. Looks like the rest of the ship was nice. Always fancied a river cruise, been on a few ocean ones.

It's not my idea of elegance. In fact, while I don't suffer from claustrophobia, the design in a small cabin would make me feel rather closed in.
My lord, that wallpaper is hideous.
youEmmaCruises are myGlennMoon definition of elegant
Hellscape.
Wow, wallpaper ... thought that went out of style 40 years ago? I think that's My Dad and I ... hehe Thank you for the peak into this ship, probably not on my top 10 list for ships ;)
The cabin looks like one of the those pranks where they put wrapping paper on everything in a room

Italian! The Berlusconi school of interior design.
Grandma*
Think my grandma would have better taste 😂

But those were only accent walls back then, not every surface. I caught your remark about it being hard to clean….rather, it would be impossible. That’s a major ICK factor.
Well, it's very thoughtful of them to pad the rooms beforehand in case the wallpaper pattern drives you crazy!
😂
Best laugh of the day!!
My thought too 😆
Not a great combo if u suffer at all with motion sickness. The patterns alond would start making your eyes weird which usually sets off the nausea. As for me, I suffer with vertigo and no way could I deal with that
Funny😂
That wallpaper would drive me mad
Haha! ;)
I agree beautiful in small portions/ accident wall. Crazy in large amounts!😂
It's not very calming. That's for sure
I mean…it’s literally everywhere! Yikes!
It's like a dodgy designer gave his grandma the Design contract and pocketed the other Millions
The old decor was much better then the current pattern
"And I hoped I wouldn't feel claustrophobic"
Is it just me or does the wallpaper somehow make it seem even more claustrophobic than my brain knows it is? I know its not a HUGE room but that pattern makes it feel even smaller than it is.
Just what I was thinking. 😮
Yes, just looking at the entrance way made me feel closed in.
It does. It's awful
This wallpaper salesman must have a hell of a pitch!
🤭🤣😂
Winner
😂😂😂
🤣👌
Nope, nope, nope. that decor would drive me nuts! lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Right there with you. Patterns like this give me vertigo.
Me too! The room would feel spinning above me 😅
That room looks like something from The Shining! 🙀
Redrum…
I think the corridors before the redesign was a wee bit reminiscent of the shining too
My absolute first thought when I saw this nasty design: Horror movie. So The Shining is very fitting👍
as a fellow ocular-migraine sufferer, I would go absolutely mad staying in that patterned room
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Agreed. I would be able to tell when one of my migraines was starting.
I've had a couple of those in my lifetime and they aren't a fun experience. I never thought of the decor as a possible trigger. I'm sorry that you get them.
Emma, don't encourage them!😅. In another 4 yrs, you may find your pant design on the walls!😜

Yay!! Somebody else that enjoys the quirky side of life like I do!! 🤗😁😀✌
Yess!! I loved that. Occasionally a duck!!
I love that too. It reminds me of being in an aquarium. I wouldn't feel unsafe or exposed on a river boat, but I can imagine being in the ocean with a window could be creepier.
Italian grandmothers around the World are smiling in approval of your room's décor. The rest of us feel a little ill.
Those 70s pants of yours were calming and serene in comparison.
😂😂😂😂
"I don't have words to describe the padding?". I do ... VULGAR - VULGAR- VULGAR!!!! YUK YUK YUK!

The wallpaper alone should qualify a 50% discount
The wallpaper pattern is very lovely, but they went way over the top on where they placed it. On the doors, really?
The old decor was lovely, the new decor makes my eyes ache. Thanks for the video Emma!
That decor is overwhelming, looks like something from a 70s Vegas hotel. It really could have done with some contrasting solid colour walls to tone things down a tad.
Shop Keeper: How many rolls of that pattern wallpaper would you like?
Cruise Company: Yes!
That pattern would do my head in.🤯
I could never enjoy cruising in that room. The water wouldn't bother me but the hellish decor would.
I get "shining" vibes of that decor
Wow now that's quite a cabin design! Shame about the ineffective cabin blinds / fixed beds but looks like a river cruise I'd like to try! Excellent video as usual Emma :)
I'd looooooooooooooove to see the biggest suites so please do! 😂🥳🥰
Why does it enrage me that they insisted on using more of that pattern for blinds….that didn’t work?!?

Nail head trim on the upholstered walls!
I always check the box for rooms where you can wash your feet whilst at the toilet. Thanks for the info!
Not even if it was just $1 per person per room. That wall covering is untenable. Just looking at it makes me nauseous, but then I am someone who is challenged with sensory overload of which that room is nothing but

Thats totally weird, you actually can its emblazoned on our brain
LOL at 0:20 when you mention the interesting sights you see from that room. Love it❤.

As always, Emma, your travelogues are excellent. Afraid I must agree with other comments as to the wall papering in your cabin…Ugghh! 😂😂
The design in the room should be illigal 😵💫
I went in a cruise with my wife and we had a cabin down by the waterline on the Med, I liked the view down there, the water sloshing over the porthole was quite relaxing.
7:37 even the blinds 😳 wow
And the INSIDE of the wardrobes.

I love the decor. It's not boring
Crosses out Uniworld for future river cruises. Thanks for the warning, Emma.
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the river cruise videos. I love them!
These videos are one my favorite ways to chill out after a long day driving the city transit coach all day. Thanks. :)
Awwhh, Thanks so much 🥹❤️
Oh my... the pattern! 😳 I would find it nice for maybe a throw pillow or even the curtains but... sometimes less is more!
It wouldn't be to my taste, but I'm sure it is to someone's taste! Was still fun to see, though! Thanks, Emma!

As a Literature major, this wallpaper is very Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Definitely drives one to madness.
My first thought was, “At least it’s not yellow?”
@@CatMom-uw9jl When my teen came in a month ago complaining about "some horrible story about a woman and there's this wallpaper and..." both my husband and I - who were both Lit majors - immediately said: "Oh God just stop right there please."

In a cabin at the water level ,you get a unique opportunity to see the world in a different light as you see it from the ground up instead of from the top down and the sunsets and sunrises would be something special and unique as the light hits the water .
Reminds me of the short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
Yes!!!
The windows sometimes are called “swan level” because you can actually see swans swimming by.
It was funny to watch the ducks paddling from under water .
Swans? I'm thinking its more likely to be fish. 😅
You could not pay me enough to stay in that room. Uniworld will not be seeing me as a guest!
At night, assuming there is no light, you won’t be able to see anything, so that would be a plus on your behalf.
After cruising on Viking... Scandinavian design, cool, austere, minimal decoration, I can't believe what I'm seeing here!
I've seen you post pics/video of your cabin several times now and I still can't get over the hideousness of it!
Honestly, that padding and the fact that at least half the room is below the waterline all the time, your cabin was probably the coolest on the ship.
Another great, comprehensive review, thank you!
I guess I love how that patterened paper even extended inside the wardrobe doors, too?
Pretty full on!
Love being early to watch your awesome cruise videos!
Yay!! Thanks so much. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I hate, hate, HATE all the patterns in that room! Oh, did I mention that I hate it?

Loved the 70's pants. So we have seen a small glimpse of your psychedelic side, I am sure Captain Hudson will join the frivolity in the future!
Fabulous review Emma and happy holidays to you and your family 💚❤️❤️❤️❄️🛳️💚💚💚💚❤️🌨️🌨️🌨️🎁🛳️🎅🏻
Love your reviews and accent, thanks and keep posting!
It would have been hilarious if the pants you wore for '70s night had the same pattern as the walls.
Emma, I dare you to make a dress out of that pattern. Oh, even better, take the cruise again wearing it 😂
Then she could be a stowaway and not get caught.
I like patterns and loud decor, but that is absolutely insane.
I lost it at the walpapered doors 😂

The window at the waterline is honestly so cool imo. That would have me mesmorised watching it at night

I actually like the weirdness of that cabin!!! My mantra is ‘anything but beige’!!
Yo Emma. Lovely, Thank You. Hope You and Dad had a great time!! jimmy
Designed in 2020?!?! By the ghost of the Duchess of Windsor, presumably. 🤭
Thank you for sharing this River Cruise. Not sure it's Right for Me but so glad Ik know before hand!! Very helpful video on so many issues Thank you 💛

What would have driven me insane was the pattern not matching 😂
My mother and father took a few cruises each year and I always intended to take one with them but my father passed before I could.
These river cruises are so expensive but the whole point is seeing the scenery and I would not want to have that little window. I don’t think it’s worth going at all if you can’t get a decent view. Unfortunately, they are all out of my price line.
That price is not bad! I’m a travel agent and I’ve sold those for like $30-$50k for a couple! (£15-£25k) for a couple it’s mental! 😮
I like the previous design, another great review!! on bucket list!!
At the harbor by me, one of the whale watch boats costs more. It has windows in the bows (catamaran) at and below water level. You can sit there and get an above/below water view of the dolphins as they ride the bow wave.
Those pattern pants were the best!!
I get dizzy or seasick looking at that wallpaper! :-)
This room is going to give me nightmares. the water line and padding would make me feel like I'm in a watery grave. You are far braver than me.
I am surprised the t.v., mirror and bed wasn't covered in that same wallpaper. I wouldn't have lasted 2 days in that room.
Impressed there is a Aussie / NZ type powerpoint
