Thanks a lot for this, I appreciate that there wasn't a long intro, blasting music, etc. and just straight to the process. It was accurate, very... mindful. :) On my Avata, one of the two flight controller screws (the extra long ones, removed from the dorsal surface) had some tamper-evident plastic in it, so I had to spend a few minutes digging that out. Otherwise, this really was 45 minutes even taking it slowly.

Great video but you leave out some really important points. Firstly, the hex screw holding the flight controller in has glue shoved in it as an anti-tamper tell tale so warranty is out the window anyway. Secondly, the GPS cable shouldn't be prised out with something as I buggered mine and the whole thing is now broken! The silver tab/tape thing on the top can simply be grasped to pull out the plug. I learnt this the hard way. Otherwise great video. Look forward to receiving my new Avata with no RC that I had to buy. Just a warning to others attempting this.
Oddly, my first Avata didn't have the glue in the Hex screw. I didn't know that existed till I got my second one. It doesn't really matter though because it's not meant as an anti-tamper, it's there because that screw is directly under the battery and they put that glue there to protect the battery from the screw. I and several others have gotten warranty replacements for their Avata even after performing the motor upgrade. I got my second one under warranty replacement because of the yaw issue and I know others who got theirs from using Care Refresh so both work without the glue in the hex screw. If you rewatch the gps cable portion, I specifically mention taking it out with my fingers and I also reiterate to be extremely careful with those cables. Sorry you messed yours up though.
I definitely need to upgrade the motors. I was just out flying and did a simple snap 180 and the Avata just flipped upside down. I instantly lost signal. I think it flipped so fast that it ejected the battery. I never got to see the crash because it shut off in the air. Crashed in a muddy corn field and it took forever to find the drone and then the battery. Almost gave up. I did give up on the battery but stumbled across it on my way out of the field. It was 50 feet away which also makes me sure it flew out in the air. Pretty disappointed if I can't fly it any harder than that. Already ordered a battery clip. Would have been nice to beep the ESCs or see what the camera was seeing. lol

my question may be silly, because I don't know about electronics. But what if I simply cut the wires from the original motors and solder them with the new ones, without the need to solder directly to the central board?
You could do that but 1) you need to make it super clean because there isn't a lot of room to have huge solder joints with a bunch of electrical tape everywhere. I recommend using heatshrink and not electrical tape. 2) your solder joints need to actually be good. If you have janky solder joints when soldering two wires together you are running the risk of your motors not functioning properly. 3) if you ever want to reinstall the old motors to sell or send your drone back to DJI for using your Care Refresh, well now you have motors with clearly cut motor wires. It's obvious you altered the drone which will be a red flag. I've done the motor install, destroyed my Avata in a crash, put the old motors back on, and sent it back to DJI for a new one using my Care Refresh.
So i can just buy 4 motors and do the upgrade of motors, no need for propelers and kit around them, and i could place action cam on my Avata without problems after that?
It will help with that just be cautious with trying to carry a fullsize GoPro. You could get creative and solder a battery lead to power a naked GoPro.
I took a few extra minutes and reinstalled the unsoldered motors back on the arms, marked the exact lengths on masking tape (that I put on the frame Inder the motor wires) and then I installed the new motors on the frame. That way I cut the wires to the exact same length and didn’t have any issues with too long or too short wires. Once they’re cut remove the new motors and solder to the esc … just like the stock fit. I just can’t stand electrical tape especially on this drone. 😊
That's an excellent way to do it. You can certainly get it much more flush then I did if maintaining the appearance is a big deal to you. Mine is so beat up already from the excessive crashing I do from flying it like I stole it.
Hello, very enlightening video, I had to change the motir of my Avata this week and I changed everything well, so now it asked to calibrate the camera and I couldn't find anything in the APP for that. Did you have to do it too? If so, where did you do it? Thanks
@puchucanoar5617 never had that issue but you can try connecting the USB-C to your computer, open the latest edition of DJI Assistant 2 (download it if you don't have it), and make sure the Avata is powered on. Follow any prompts on the screen.
When I come accross lead free solder that doesn't cooperate I usually add a bit of flux and new rosin core solder to help heat transfer. After the wires are removed I either "heat and smack" or dri wick off the old solder and replace the solder. Of course this probably is a bad idea if you later have to send it back the DJI for warranty replacement or care refresh but I don't do warranties so for myself it doesn't matter.
After we spoke a while back here somewhere (can't find it). I did the mod. Its a real kick in the pants to fly now. How concerned should I be about the" Motor Overloaded " warning I get at full throttle? I am assuming the new motors are confusing the ESC. the motors come back cool to the touch, and the warning goes away as soon as I let off a bit. Do we know of anyone who actually killed there ESC from powering thru this warning? Or should I treat it like a shift light, and let off ?
hey @MurdersFPV i followed your guide and found it helpful but i ran into problems after i finished the install, my gimbal seems to keep freaking out now swinging up and down violently on startup along with an ESC error. did i fry my ESC? because im certain i plugged all the ribbon cables back correctly. It's absolutely your ribbon cable for the camera not being lined up or installed all the way. I had this same issue the second time I installed motors on my replacement Avata. Sucked having to open it up again but I just reseated the cable and it worked.
NIce job, and great tip to change motors. My quwstion is, wouldn't it be easier to just cut the wires and solder them to new motors? I used to do that on some of my quads and don't remember having any issues. Do you know of any downsides to this idea ( other than not being as nice and clean )?
That's also an option and certainly viable if you have the skills to make it clean. I actually have "race wire" that I think I'll use next time. The reason I demonstrated this method is because this is how I recommend to do it if you want to have any possible chance of reverting the drone back to stock for the purpose of warranty replacement. You'll want to remove the upgraded motors and put the stock motors on if you want to utilize your Care Refresh as well.
The noise is really dependent on the props. So if you're using the same stock props on the upgraded motors they are going to sound fairly similar. The major difference is that the props are spinning faster. It is just a little less shrill than the stock motors.
Hello. I have a question. Is it not possible to install the motors using very small race wires there where the heat shrink is for the motors? Or just cut the motors there where the ham eat shrink is and connect the new ones? In the case of care u can install the old ones and hide the connections under the new heat shrink!!? Just a though!

Hi , i did the installation from your video ...great easy to follow! The problem i have now is the avata starts up no problem but soon as i engage it to fly it just goes into full thottle is this something you have an answer for 🤞
My fault i some how wired up one of the motors upside down it was a long 13hr day at work so wasn't paying attention to what i was doing ...motors run fine now i re-soldered it 👍
There are even easier ways to do it but this is how you'll want to go about it with the best chance of getting a warranty replacement if the drone falls out of the sky because something DJI messed up. Honestly I was thinking of using race wire.
Does the new motor make it more powerful? Can it hold a full go pro easily? I have stock Avata and it struggles to carry a full go pro. Super shaky and wobbly
Certainly. Prop pitch is a factor. I was actually contacted recently by a company who is developing props for the Avata and are sending me some to test. We'll see if they further improve performance.
Thank you for this! Just curious if you tried a speed run yet with the new motors? The fastest I’ve gotten the stock motors on manual is 60mph and I was wondering if there was a speed increase with the new motors.
I haven't tried just a flat out full "speed run". I guess I've never been tempted since I know it's slow. I'm used to my diy drones that completely smoke the Avata without a sweat. I'll definitely give it a go for curiosity sake. There is a definite speed increase in just normal cruising around.
I haven't watched the full video yet but I'm assuming you're going to go to the motor pads .for someone like myself who doesn't want to open the Drone up all the way could I just solder them to the existing ESC wires???. That's how we do it in RC car world and we're running all over amps on that thing
You certainly could do that, just try to make it as clean as you can because there isn't a lot of room. I also recommend keeping the stock motors intact in order to put them back on later to make use of Care Refresh.
The efficiency difference is not noticeable to me. That's completely my perception and not scientific fact. I would gladly sacrifice a little efficiency for this level of performance improvement. After the upgrade the drone flies incredibly smooth and stable and now has the ability to get more dynamic shots that are expected of an FPV drone.
I did it, I soldered directly on the esc and I have 2 pads of the ESC on 4 that do not respond anymore, in the mask i have the esc error. I don't know what to do, I tested everything. I'm looking for ESC sales but there is no resale :( How to send it back to dji, there are not even the original power cables anymore ... Can someone help me?
Thanks for the tutorial. Do you think if you soldered flipping the polarity, the FC would accept this as a props out configuration or would it just freak out.
So if motors spin the wrong direction you have to take it apart again and swap wires? Or axis tells you which are clockwise and which are counter clockwise?
Thanks for the video. After 2 flights, one Motor is heated and i crashed my avata. Everything is fine. But when i like to start again, the motors spinning 1 sec and then warning: motor blocked. I cant Start anymore and one of the motors are very hot. What is the problem? Can you help me pleeeeease?
@@MurdersFPV i can move the motors with my hands. Nothing is blocked on the props. Everything moves free. I dont know whats the Problem, after try to start, the Motor is damn hot. i ordered a new Motor but the delivery is 2 weeks waiting :-(
@@chr1s_69 did you do the install yourself? What you're describing sounds like a symptom when the wires of the motor have crossovers. Such as where they are soldered to the ESC. Is it possible the wires are touching slightly? If not then it may be damage to the motor itself somehow. Possibly from crashing.
Hiya mate just done the upgrade to axis flying c157 motors cant get camera to work in goggles does that mean i haven't connected right all i get is the dji screen and Gimbal needs calibration
You could but you'll need to make that as clean as possible and if you needed to return your Avata to DJI for any reason there is a possibility they may not honor your service request without having to dish out some additional money since it would be clear your altered the drone. I only say that because I returned this Avata after this installation by just putting the old motors back on and they replaced my quad for free under a warranty claim.

I don't fly in Normal or Sports mode so I really can't speak too much to the experience. It is more stable but if your priority is to fly interiors slow and steady I would definitely suggest just sticking to the stock motors.

You can absolutely do that. Make it as clean and neat as possible because there isn't a lot of room there and you don't want the props to cut your motor wires. I did the installation video in this way to demonstrate the best method of preserving the stock motors in the event you need to get a replacement and send your drone to DJI and having the best possible luck with them honoring your warranty replacement or Care Refresh.
Fantastic job. Thank you very much for this. I was watching Mad Techs live yesterday and his concern about adding different motors is the long term effect on the ESCs. Do you think that this is a valid claim? Maybe I’m totally out to left field, but I thought the ESCs are mainly affected by the amount of voltage going through them and that would be based on the size of the battery, which is coming from the original Avata battery, and that hasn’t changed. I thought the motors would be the same and not the reverse?
I don't personally see there being a long term effect but as Mads likes to say "we just don't know" and only time will tell. You are correct about voltage being a big factor in an ESCs ability to not burn up but with higher KV comes higher prop speed and therefore larger current draw from the battery through the ESC. Excessively high current can cause damage to an ESC if it's not rated for it. I don't think these motors are going to produce that much of a dramatic increase in current for that to be an issue. But that is my opinion based on my experience with electronics and having built a lot of drones on higher KV motors.
@@MurdersFPV My other dumb question, based on what you just told me. If the higher KV tend to draw higher current from the ESCs, but aren’t the ESC designed to draw a peak current and that it will only draw that current and nothing more?
@@samavella8831 even if they were designed for a peak current draw that doesn't me it won't still catch fire. A good example is ESCs in RC cars. Those ESCs are specifically designed to handle and withstand substantially more amps than our drone ESCs and they still catch fire. Look at Castle Creations Mamba XLX2 for a good example. Either way I highly doubt there will be ESC damage from these motors. I have put my Avata through some serious stress since the upgrade and everything is functioning perfectly. I'll certainly keep people updated.

I just followed all these instructions. When I turned it back on, the front two motors didn't click, only the back two. Status screen: *Propulsion System auto check error, if the issue persists, contact dji support. *Esc auto check error, unable to take off, restart aircraft. (Says them multiple times). Any tips on this?
@MurdersFPV It's been a while & I'm having another look at this. What if I cleaned the heat sink paste before I watched you say don't smudge it, Should I get some & put more back on? Another thing I did was cut the wires at a slight angle and one was tight when installing & had to be stretched a little.
@@frankiemoldavito2101 you should definitely put heat sink paste back. Also, how did you "clean" it. I've seen times where doing so with the incorrect chemical or tool caused issues with the electronics. Stretching the motor wires isn't a bad thing as long as there is continuity and you didn't pull and break a connection to the windings.
@@MurdersFPV okay, I tried again, solder joints are clean, I swapped the two front motors & re soldered & still the same result, front two motors don't engage. It was wiped with a wet wipe. I wonder if DJI would make it work for me with the motor upgrade 🤔
I thought about that too but there are definitely more things going on with this ESC than any other normal ESC that could impact its functionality. For instance the additional battery wires that likely go through a sort of diagnostic scan in order for the drone to arm. I've seen where the battery is slightly dislodged and you get a "battery installation error" message in the goggles and your Avata won't arm.

You could do that but I want to retain the stock motors in the event that I want to take advantage of my Care Refresh. I highly recommend others do the same but of course people are free to do as they like.

I've seen a couple of these videos. "IF" I were to do this conversion, I think I'd just cut the 3 wires on each motor at the arms, and re-solder there, instead of tearing the whole thing apart.

@@MurdersFPV Can you use Care Refresh after this mod? Even if you put it back to the original setup with stock motors, it will probably be noticeable that work has been done with soldering.
@@Odessa47 Care Refresh is something you paid for upfront and you have to pay an additional cost to actually get a replacement for. It's basically insurance for your drone and it covers everything to include things that were completely pilot error. A warranty replacement is for those situations where your drone is damaged and it is found to be a non pilot error. That's where DJI will perform a diagnostic test and determine the cause of the problem and replace the drone free of cost. A warranty replacement is what your real concern is. I would highly recommend you fly your Avata for at least half a dozen packs to ensure it's operating as expected before considering this upgrade.
@@MurdersFPV I understand. Then I don't see anything in the way of doing as Steve suggests. As long as a clean job is done. You can always put the original motors back in the same way. Maybe I'm overlooking something, how does that affect Care Refresh then?
@@Odessa47 I don't honestly think it will be an issue but we still haven't seen a direct answer from DJI about this. I tried to get an answer from them regarding this specific upgrade. These motors were made for the Avata and not much after it was released. I think Axisflying was likely given Avata units by DJI prior to the release for them to do exactly this. I haven't found it anywhere in any fine print regarding Care Refresh that a third party product voids your ability to use Care Refresh.

That is absolutely an amazing drone. The biggest reasons I like the Avata over the Cinelog35 is because of range, penetration, video quality, flight time, and it's fun to watch my kids fly it around. They have a blast.
I killed the ESC doing this install somehow, I keep getting ESC error, I redid everything 3 times to see what I did wrong and I ended up having to break 2 screws cause 2 screws were stripped. Anyways, I'm shipping it Monday back to DJI with the DJI Care express thing, we'll see what they say ahahahah, I'm shipping it back with the new motors, worst case scenario I'll just buy a new one, already ordered more motors in case some of them are defective/I fuck up the next mod, I'll just do what the people were saying in the comments, just solder directly to the old motor cables, that way you can't fuck up the ESC.

@@TheGodlyNoob the way I understood it is the express version just automatically sends you a new unit before they even look over the one you send in. So, more than likely they just don’t know you’ve done that yet. The real test will be if they end up billing you in the next few weeks; I saw that because it sounds like they do that from the terms and conditions you read when signing up for that.
None the wiser is incorrect because the logs will show the KV usage while in flight and prove that the stock motors were not used in flight at time of crash .
Really? You seem to be extremely knowledgeable about the technology that would have to be in place in order for KV usage to be able to be tracked via logging. I'm so interested in learning where you got this information and if you could share because in my expertise and background in electronics engineering, I've never heard of something like you've stated as though it were facts.

@@retro93277 so I encourage you to research the difference between Care Refresh and a warranty replacement. One is essentially insurance that covers just about anything and DJI sends you a replacement before even receiving your damaged drone and no questions asked. The other is the drone was damaged or lost with no fault on the pilot. Once you've learned about that topic, I would recommend you research flight controller/data logging and find out how motor KV would be determined via that means. Please refrain from making statements on subjects you are ignorant about. I clearly stated a disclaimer at the start of the video and explained what "could" happen if a warranty replacement was needed. I know enough about flight controller technology and data logging to know they are not going to determine the KV of a motor without having true sensored motors and I know with an incredibly high degree of certainty that the stock Avata motors are not sensored.
@MurdersFPV yea all rpm reading are estimates. Only thing they'd know is more amps and watts being used. Which not every drone hits exact same amps. So much can affect it.
Putting new motors on a drone isn't really a diy conversion. At least not in the eyes of a person like me who has actually does diy conversions. I bought a brand new Kawasaki ZX10R and put an aftermarket exhaust on it. Does that make it a diy conversion? People who have the ability and desire to upgrade their toys are going to want to do so. 🤷
Well... sometimes you buy a car that you really like, but feel like it lacks power, grip and handling, so you slap on track tires, coilovers and a turbokit😅

That way I cut the wires to the exact same length and didn’t have any issues with too long or too short wires. Once they’re cut remove the new motors and solder to the esc … just like the stock fit.
I just can’t stand electrical tape especially on this drone. 😊
That's an excellent way to do it. You can certainly get it much more flush then I did if maintaining the appearance is a big deal to you. Mine is so beat up already from the excessive crashing I do from flying it like I stole it.

Hello, very enlightening video, I had to change the motir of my Avata this week and I changed everything well, so now it asked to calibrate the camera and I couldn't find anything in the APP for that. Did you have to do it too? If so, where did you do it? Thanks
@puchucanoar5617 never had that issue but you can try connecting the USB-C to your computer, open the latest edition of DJI Assistant 2 (download it if you don't have it), and make sure the Avata is powered on. Follow any prompts on the screen.

Not if you install them exactly like the stock motors are installed. I've done this installation over a dozen times and never had that issue.

When I come accross lead free solder that doesn't cooperate I usually add a bit of flux and new rosin core solder to help heat transfer. After the wires are removed I either "heat and smack" or dri wick off the old solder and replace the solder. Of course this probably is a bad idea if you later have to send it back the DJI for warranty replacement or care refresh but I don't do warranties so for myself it doesn't matter.
Yeah I threw a little of my own resin based solder on there. Great tip.
After we spoke a while back here somewhere (can't find it). I did the mod. Its a real kick in the pants to fly now. How concerned should I be about the" Motor Overloaded " warning I get at full throttle? I am assuming the new motors are confusing the ESC. the motors come back cool to the touch, and the warning goes away as soon as I let off a bit. Do we know of anyone who actually killed there ESC from powering thru this warning? Or should I treat it like a shift light, and let off ?

It's absolutely your ribbon cable for the camera not being lined up or installed all the way. I had this same issue the second time I installed motors on my replacement Avata. Sucked having to open it up again but I just reseated the cable and it worked.

NIce job, and great tip to change motors. My quwstion is, wouldn't it be easier to just cut the wires and solder them to new motors? I used to do that on some of my quads and don't remember having any issues. Do you know of any downsides to this idea ( other than not being as nice and clean )?
That's also an option and certainly viable if you have the skills to make it clean. I actually have "race wire" that I think I'll use next time.
The reason I demonstrated this method is because this is how I recommend to do it if you want to have any possible chance of reverting the drone back to stock for the purpose of warranty replacement. You'll want to remove the upgraded motors and put the stock motors on if you want to utilize your Care Refresh as well.
Great video! What about the noise, are these ones louder?
The noise is really dependent on the props. So if you're using the same stock props on the upgraded motors they are going to sound fairly similar. The major difference is that the props are spinning faster. It is just a little less shrill than the stock motors.

Hello. I have a question. Is it not possible to install the motors using very small race wires there where the heat shrink is for the motors? Or just cut the motors there where the ham eat shrink is and connect the new ones? In the case of care u can install the old ones and hide the connections under the new heat shrink!!? Just a though!

There are even easier ways to do it but this is how you'll want to go about it with the best chance of getting a warranty replacement if the drone falls out of the sky because something DJI messed up. Honestly I was thinking of using race wire.

Does the new motor make it more powerful? Can it hold a full go pro easily? I have stock Avata and it struggles to carry a full go pro. Super shaky and wobbly
I highly recommend the 3.5" upgrade if you want to carry a GoPro.

You mean motor wires? You could but it's not a way I would recommend. Soldering wires together is risky in itself.

Certainly. Prop pitch is a factor. I was actually contacted recently by a company who is developing props for the Avata and are sending me some to test. We'll see if they further improve performance.

I haven't tried just a flat out full "speed run". I guess I've never been tempted since I know it's slow. I'm used to my diy drones that completely smoke the Avata without a sweat. I'll definitely give it a go for curiosity sake. There is a definite speed increase in just normal cruising around.

You certainly could do that, just try to make it as clean as you can because there isn't a lot of room. I also recommend keeping the stock motors intact in order to put them back on later to make use of Care Refresh.

The efficiency difference is not noticeable to me. That's completely my perception and not scientific fact. I would gladly sacrifice a little efficiency for this level of performance improvement. After the upgrade the drone flies incredibly smooth and stable and now has the ability to get more dynamic shots that are expected of an FPV drone.
I did it, I soldered directly on the esc and I have 2 pads of the ESC on 4 that do not respond anymore, in the mask i have the esc error.

It would flip out, guaranteed. I would rather it was props out myself.

@@chr1s_69 did you do the install yourself? What you're describing sounds like a symptom when the wires of the motor have crossovers. Such as where they are soldered to the ESC. Is it possible the wires are touching slightly? If not then it may be damage to the motor itself somehow. Possibly from crashing.

You could but you'll need to make that as clean as possible and if you needed to return your Avata to DJI for any reason there is a possibility they may not honor your service request without having to dish out some additional money since it would be clear your altered the drone. I only say that because I returned this Avata after this installation by just putting the old motors back on and they replaced my quad for free under a warranty claim.

I don't fly in Normal or Sports mode so I really can't speak too much to the experience. It is more stable but if your priority is to fly interiors slow and steady I would definitely suggest just sticking to the stock motors.

You can absolutely do that. Make it as clean and neat as possible because there isn't a lot of room there and you don't want the props to cut your motor wires. I did the installation video in this way to demonstrate the best method of preserving the stock motors in the event you need to get a replacement and send your drone to DJI and having the best possible luck with them honoring your warranty replacement or Care Refresh.

I was watching Mad Techs live yesterday and his concern about adding different motors is the long term effect on the ESCs. Do you think that this is a valid claim?
Maybe I’m totally out to left field, but I thought the ESCs are mainly affected by the amount of voltage going through them and that would be based on the size of the battery, which is coming from the original Avata battery, and that hasn’t changed. I thought the motors would be the same and not the reverse?
I don't personally see there being a long term effect but as Mads likes to say "we just don't know" and only time will tell. You are correct about voltage being a big factor in an ESCs ability to not burn up but with higher KV comes higher prop speed and therefore larger current draw from the battery through the ESC. Excessively high current can cause damage to an ESC if it's not rated for it. I don't think these motors are going to produce that much of a dramatic increase in current for that to be an issue. But that is my opinion based on my experience with electronics and having built a lot of drones on higher KV motors.
@@MurdersFPV My other dumb question, based on what you just told me. If the higher KV tend to draw higher current from the ESCs, but aren’t the ESC designed to draw a peak current and that it will only draw that current and nothing more?
@@samavella8831 even if they were designed for a peak current draw that doesn't me it won't still catch fire. A good example is ESCs in RC cars. Those ESCs are specifically designed to handle and withstand substantially more amps than our drone ESCs and they still catch fire. Look at Castle Creations Mamba XLX2 for a good example.
Either way I highly doubt there will be ESC damage from these motors. I have put my Avata through some serious stress since the upgrade and everything is functioning perfectly. I'll certainly keep people updated.

I just followed all these instructions. When I turned it back on, the front two motors didn't click, only the back two.
Status screen:
*Propulsion System auto check error, if the issue persists, contact dji support.
*Esc auto check error, unable to take off, restart aircraft.
(Says them multiple times).
Any tips on this?
I would suggest checking your solder job and verifying everything is plugged back in correctly. Worse case, reinstall the original motors and test it.
@MurdersFPV It's been a while & I'm having another look at this. What if I cleaned the heat sink paste before I watched you say don't smudge it, Should I get some & put more back on?
Another thing I did was cut the wires at a slight angle and one was tight when installing & had to be stretched a little.
@@frankiemoldavito2101 you should definitely put heat sink paste back. Also, how did you "clean" it. I've seen times where doing so with the incorrect chemical or tool caused issues with the electronics. Stretching the motor wires isn't a bad thing as long as there is continuity and you didn't pull and break a connection to the windings.
@@MurdersFPV okay, I tried again, solder joints are clean, I swapped the two front motors & re soldered & still the same result, front two motors don't engage. It was wiped with a wet wipe.

I thought about that too but there are definitely more things going on with this ESC than any other normal ESC that could impact its functionality. For instance the additional battery wires that likely go through a sort of diagnostic scan in order for the drone to arm. I've seen where the battery is slightly dislodged and you get a "battery installation error" message in the goggles and your Avata won't arm.
How fast can it go after the upgrade?
The fastest I've seen on mine was 69mph but others have told me they got into the 70s

You could do that but I want to retain the stock motors in the event that I want to take advantage of my Care Refresh. I highly recommend others do the same but of course people are free to do as they like.

I've seen a couple of these videos. "IF" I were to do this conversion, I think I'd just cut the 3 wires on each motor at the arms, and re-solder there, instead of tearing the whole thing apart.
That is absolutely an option but you would have to make it super clean since there isn't much room under the arms and between the props. Plus I want to keep the stock motors intact in case I need to use my Care Refresh.
@@MurdersFPV Can you use Care Refresh after this mod? Even if you put it back to the original setup with stock motors, it will probably be noticeable that work has been done with soldering.
@@Odessa47 Care Refresh is something you paid for upfront and you have to pay an additional cost to actually get a replacement for. It's basically insurance for your drone and it covers everything to include things that were completely pilot error.
A warranty replacement is for those situations where your drone is damaged and it is found to be a non pilot error. That's where DJI will perform a diagnostic test and determine the cause of the problem and replace the drone free of cost.
A warranty replacement is what your real concern is. I would highly recommend you fly your Avata for at least half a dozen packs to ensure it's operating as expected before considering this upgrade.
@@MurdersFPV I understand. Then I don't see anything in the way of doing as Steve suggests. As long as a clean job is done. You can always put the original motors back in the same way. Maybe I'm overlooking something, how does that affect Care Refresh then?
@@Odessa47 I don't honestly think it will be an issue but we still haven't seen a direct answer from DJI about this. I tried to get an answer from them regarding this specific upgrade. These motors were made for the Avata and not much after it was released. I think Axisflying was likely given Avata units by DJI prior to the release for them to do exactly this. I haven't found it anywhere in any fine print regarding Care Refresh that a third party product voids your ability to use Care Refresh.

That is absolutely an amazing drone. The biggest reasons I like the Avata over the Cinelog35 is because of range, penetration, video quality, flight time, and it's fun to watch my kids fly it around. They have a blast.
I got a cinelog25 and it's a blast! Will get an avata later when there are many used ones floating around ebay. Probably 6-8 months later.

Axis did. They are specifically made for the Avata. They aren't designed for use on any other drone.
I killed the ESC doing this install somehow, I keep getting ESC error, I redid everything 3 times to see what I did wrong and I ended up having to break 2 screws cause 2 screws were stripped. Anyways, I'm shipping it Monday back to DJI with the DJI Care express thing, we'll see what they say ahahahah, I'm shipping it back with the new motors, worst case scenario I'll just buy a new one, already ordered more motors in case some of them are defective/I fuck up the next mod, I'll just do what the people were saying in the comments, just solder directly to the old motor cables, that way you can't fuck up the ESC.

So, more than likely they just don’t know you’ve done that yet. None the wiser is incorrect because the logs will show the KV usage while in flight and prove that the stock motors were not used in flight at time of crash .

One is essentially insurance that covers just about anything and DJI sends you a replacement before even receiving your damaged drone and no questions asked. The other is the drone was damaged or lost with no fault on the pilot. Once you've learned about that topic, I would recommend you research flight controller/data logging and find out how motor KV would be determined via that means. Please refrain from making statements on subjects you are ignorant about. I clearly stated a disclaimer at the start of the video and explained what "could" happen if a warranty replacement was needed. I know enough about flight controller technology and data logging to know they are not going to determine the KV of a motor without having true sensored motors and I know with an incredibly high degree of certainty that the stock Avata motors are not sensored.
@MurdersFPV yea all rpm reading are estimates. Only thing they'd know is more amps and watts being used. Which not every drone hits exact same amps. So much can affect it.

Putting new motors on a drone isn't really a diy conversion. At least not in the eyes of a person like me who has actually does diy conversions. I bought a brand new Kawasaki ZX10R and put an aftermarket exhaust on it. Does that make it a diy conversion? People who have the ability and desire to upgrade their toys are going to want to do so. 🤷
