- Todays video is update/follow up from our last video. We have made some massive improvements to the OP MOUSE CONTROLLER! Making it a lot more accurate and a lot more comfortable. These changes truly make this a pro controller like no other. And to be honest, those lame analog stick pro controllers don't stand a chance against the MOUSE CONTROLLER!

**Answering a couple of questions from the comment section**
Yes, I applied for patent on this controller concept. The patent is for utility, meaning the functionality of it. Using an optical sensor on a controller layout has not been done before so hopefully this patent will be approved. The reason we patented the mouse controller idea is this project has been a passion project mine. We are still working on perfecting the prototype (V3). But once I am happy with it, I will produce a bunch of these controllers and try to sell them to you guys at cost. Sounds crazy, but I'm not really doing this to make a ton of money, yet to change the gaming industry for the better!
To those who are saying, "you just build a steam controller"... This is so far from the truth. I have owned the steam controller since it was launched back in 2015. It was actually an inspiration for this idea. The touch pad functionality on the steam controller is NO WHERE NEAR as accurate or precise as an optical sensor of a mouse. @@techyesterday4960 I know this comment is a bit late (only just watched your videos). Rather than use it like a mouse is it not possible to use 'upside-down tracking lasers' built into the controller itself. Probably wont work but there must be a way to optically track thumb surface movement as opposed to using a thumb mouse. Of course 'laser eye' would also be a flaw. Anyway interesting project keep it up👍

Why not just use the gyro sensor in a normal controller? It's more accurate than that mouse sensor thing he has on his controller, plus you get to keep all the face buttons and joystick still
The normal PS4/PS5 controller will beat this controller in the competition.
Both controllers have gyro capabilities, gyro aiming is the future, not this weird touchpad controller.
And Vita aim (the controller configuration that I’m developing) will beat Flip Stick in the gyro aiming scene.

Patents are useless unless you are part of a big corporation. Patent won't protect against chinese manufacturers stealing the idea. And only apple have enough money to force amazon not to sell knock-off's of their products.
Not to mentione the money you have to give to patent lawyers to get the patent in a first place.

@@Zociety6477 Xim doesn't count, it just emulates a controller and allows you to use a mouse by tricking the console or pc into thinking the mouse input is actually controller input. This invention is by and large a controller with a optical sensor, which deletes almost all input delay of what your standard controller gives but also is extremely precise compared to a analog stick. By and large this is a controller that could cause way cheaper than that of a Xim. With a Xim you're required to own some form of a keyboard and mouse and it's recommended you stay away from membrane, so you'll be spending around $30 for a cheap keyboard and mouse.
Then the XIM Apex costs around $100 USD. That's $130 USD just to get the benefit of mouse and keyboard, when KB/M is already going mainstream on consoles making the XIM near damn obsolete and not worth the price unless you wanna fight controller players all day like a cheating scum.
@@LyricalViking it still offers the precision of a mouse, just like you said. Hence why playing against controller players makes you "scummy". Also, if xim is scummy, then this would be just as bad the way you're talking about it. Its an advantage over analog controller players. Its still a mouse at the end of the day.
Also, I bought a xim for $50 off my buddy, got a decent mnk for about 140 bones, which is also going to be used for my pc when I find a GPU worth buying. Seems productive to me.
@@LyricalViking and I'm not taking anything away from the dudes mousetroller. Its epic as hell. Just saying that there are other things that provide a similar effect. Theres also cheaper options than the xim, that from what I've heard are actually fairly decent. As much as I like this controller, I don't forsee it becoming widely available either unfortunately. If it does become available then hell yeah I'm buying two.

Yeah same just thought about it yeterday before I discovered this video. I have played mobile and console games but somehow the aiming with tuchscreen feels much better than with a joystick. I would love to play pc/console games with the same controll feeling as with a phone with tuchscreen but sdly I havent seen something like it till now in this vid

Unfortunately, this thing didn't have proper marketing, so nobody saw the appeal of it.
@@aywee26 You can't compare the shitty Steam Controller with this, work in progress, state of the art homemade Gorgious Controller. I'm Mk player and I'd likely be buying a thumb stick for keyboard (see Martoz in Fortnite ua-cam.com/video/h7XmqDbkYU0/v-deo.html) instead of an entire controller. But probably a Controller Player would be just amazed. (and @Koro Muffin is not probably that good at playing)

This is cool. It reminds me of the Steam controller a bit. A similar result is achievable with gyro controls on PlayStation and Nintendo controllers but for some reason, people like to hate on gyro just because it's a form of motion control. This controller you made is different to gyro since you still use your thumb to aim whereas gyro uses your wrists.
I've been waiting years to find something like this. Controller movement + mouse aim! I was floored to find out that few legitimate attempts have ever been made at it!
That's crazy cuz gyro aiming has been around for years, and it's just that! We gyro aimers have been aiming without aim assist for years because gyro is just as precise as mouse, I know a guy that got global elite in CSGO on controller a few *years* ago

Bro I'm seriously invested in this. When I watch a UA-camr make funky gadgets and inventions I usually think they're cool and fun but rarely do I see something that I think could actually go mainstream and change an industry. This right here could become the next big thing in gaming hardware being the third official way to play games. You have controller players, you have mouse and keyboard players, and then you have controller mouse hybrid players. I really want to see you deep dive even more into this concept because this is amazing to watch. If I were you I would work on a way to purchase good optical sensors and resources without having to tear down pre existing products and work on a final version and start a Kickstarter. I would be the first person on their supporting this project and I'm sure thousands would as well. I subbed for sure.

i think you should try to make the "dpad" buttons a little bigger (only slightly (maybe use the x square triangle and circle buttons from a ps4 remote)) i also think it would look insane with a few LEDs but most of all, i think it would be cool to see that remote with a button on the optical mouse sensor. i would really love to have that remote so i hope you like my idea's note: i don't expect to see you putting a button on the optical mouse considering you just made it smaller.

I was thinking to use a mini drawing tablet as the surface and use the tip of an electronic pen on the big finger, that could make the mechanism that goes on the big toe much smaller and simpler, but I don't know what precision do you get with this (more than with the touchpad but less than with the mouse sensor?)

Yeah, i can't see how this is any different. It's not like you can stretch your thumb to cover all of that touchpad area... I have a steam controller and its a compromise in every way, nothing is solid about it. The size of its touchpad surface area is not a problem however, the problem is precision and lack of feedback, it's the same as playing on a smartphone. It can be done, but it's not superior to mouse or controller in any way. It's like trackball for gaming.

I am flabbergasted. Not since 1982 has such a massive leap been made in controller tech. It's genuinly astounding that it was done by a youtuber instead of one of the plethora of billion dollar companies that wade around in the gaming industry.

@@CandarianGaming the gyro is relatively old now. he lack the smoothness of the gyro of the Switch pro. i like gyro aiming and i can recommand this controller as the current standard for gyro aiming.
The trackpads of the Steam Controller are not as accurate because of friction. The sensor of this prototype seems to solve this issue, and it is an actual mouse sensor, which is way more accurate than a trackpad.

Firstly I know of something that is severely holding this controller back and I have a pretty good idea about how to fix it. I don't want to say it in the comment section because I'd like to talk to you privately about this, my info is at the bottom of this comment hopefully I got your attention.
I actually thought about this exact thing sometime in 2016. I believe I tried to make it back in the summer of 2017, but didn't quite finish it because I could not find a way to bring the mouse down to a reasonable size. I pretty much tried to do what you did in the first video but was unsuccessful in finding a mouse that fit. Now I'm kicking myself in the butt for not doing what you did in this video to shrink it. Anyway, I've got my own 3d printer, I learned how to make my own PCBs, and learned other skills (I don't want to talk about them in a public comment section) in order to make this controller work. I know the issues with this controller's aim and I know of a possible solution that would be easy to implement. I also have the skills to make this controller cheaper and faster to produce, and it could even scale to mass production. I have some things made a while ago that can prove that I've been tinkering with this idea for a very long time. I've studied and graduated as an engineer and I'd really like to talk to you about some ideas I have. No...just no, the steam controller has touch pads, this controller has an optical mouse, completely different things, optical sensor is far superior to touch pad for shooter games.

Integrate a button into the thumb mouse. When you press down it can be a like a controller down press. Kinda like when you down press a joy con. when you click down it could cycle the dpi and give greater accuracy when sniping or bind it to another button. Great controller idea, I always thought there had to be a way to integrate mouse into a controller.

This is a nice tech mate been looking for something like this for ps4 you think you could implement the steam controllers track pads for left and rights analog sticks? Mainly right stick?
try to put a button on this optical sensor in addition to moving it will have one more button! when you press your thumb it clicks too!
Nice, but it may have a lot of false positives when moving your thumb fast across.
@@brandom9960 will depend on the resistance of the button, it does not happen in notebooks and in the analog of the controls

You should do a controller with mouse clicks for the triggers, bumpers, ABXY, and Dpad.

still waiting on grid shot - or really any aim lab challenges - scores. For Grid Shot, I've personally hit 65k and I know others have hit over 70k, using a controllers gyro as a mouse.

This is literally what I've been telling people I need for years! I'm great with the aiming on pc but my fingers get messed up and moved over on the keyboard and it throws me all off! I'm just not smart enough to make this myself!
For those able to learn claw grip gaming w/ this thing, more power to you.
Not entirely sure how claw grip would benefit this. Claw grip is use to push face buttons while still maintaining contact of the control stick. This does not have any face buttons, and would harder to aim using your index finger

Implementation idea: I’d like to see a compartment built in to the back of the controller that would house the thumb piece! That way you don’t lose the thumb piece when you’re not using it!
That's just adding extra bulk to the controller which is already big.
Rob Men Could also try implementing something that the thumb piece can hang on from the controller. Really just anything to help keep track of the thumb piece

anyone know what this would be different then a track pad instead of the thumb attached to a mouse sensor?? not a laptop user so not 100% sure about it.
I think you get more consistent results with the thumb mouse sensor. with just a track pad, there’s less accuracy bc your thumb is so big compared to a tiny stylus like dot that’s on the the thumb controller

Yeah. If sticking mouse to thumb can dominate the marketplace, but steam controller couldn't... I don't know... There is something called touch pad and he went with sticking mouse to his thumb. What gives mouse its precision is the fact that you can move it with your arm wrist and fingers at the same time. A great range of control. It is not about the fact that it is a ''mouse''.
@@someonesomeone529 it is vastly more accurate than steam controller. touchpads are never as accurate or low latency as lasers tracking position in real time. plus the control of a factory smooth mouse on a flat surface is much a much smoother glide than a human thumb on a slightly porous piece of plastic
@@Aycheffe you don't use the touch pad for precise aiming, that is what the gyroscopic sensor is meant for. Touch pad gets you close, then you do fine movements by tilting.
