To me, it appears that most of the cone that was there is gone and the eruption is now coming from a larger area near the surface of the water.

I seem to remember some lithograph of Krakatoa just before the big eruptions in August 1882 that looked very much like this. Has the chamber already refilled?
The old Krakatoa was the size of the three islands surrounding Anak, plus the space in between them. It was much much bigger.
This is nowhere near the 1883 eruption..
Just hope the water interaction does not clog the magma chamber. We could see a build up to a mega eruption if it does.
Is it calming down, little by little? I mean it has been erupting for many days and so often - so does it look like the pressure is diminishing? Anybody have the seismologists comments?
Contrary, It grows by days and probably will never diminish as you say. If it diminish then a new volcano will appear somewhere near.
It erupting day by day so the eruption won't big, if you say the eruption on the last December is big then it will be more big enough to you to see tenths meters of tsunami.

@@sdnburneh3 I guess most people would agree we can call big eruption something that causes a tsunami. Even lesser eruptions could be called big. Why I speak of diminishing, is because now Anak Krakatau has lost some of it size, 2/3.
And I base it also on how people explain the difference to 1883 eruption when there was one abrupt big one, then quiet. Now the people observing the volcano said it wouldn't make a big one anymore (for now), after the tsunami, and having lost so much of its weight. Guess it depends on the volcano type.
So making a series of eruptions releases the pressure. Though the observers explained, if the chamber roof to the magma chamber collapses and sea water gets in, then it's a big problem, and the active phase won't be small or short.
By growing or new volcano appearing I guess you point to the connection of Krakatoa and the tectonic plates. That it can't never really go dormant, except for visual apperance for a surface observer.

This tsunami was caused by the flank collapse. 100 times less powerful than the 1800's eruption. When these type of volcanoes collapse down to the water line they become very dangerous. Their magma chambers tend to get clogged. These clogs usually clear in the form of a mega eruption. So just hope she just keeps blowing out gas. The longer a stoppage occurs, the larger the mega eruption that follows.

Wow, seismograph shows harmonic tremor. That is not good. Means the volcano is just getting started.
i think it's good sign.. it means the upper level of the magma chamber is still molten lava. so the pressure form the inside can still easily come out.. otherwise if the upper level become a lava rock and blocking the pressure from inside of the earth.. then it's possible history will repeat it self.
The summit now so close to sea level, phreatomagmatic eruptions are more likely

marbobley Even the 1883 Eruption of Krakatoa was much more smaller than Tambora. The 1883 Eruption of Krakatoa was a VEI 6 Eruption while The 1815 Eruption of Tambora was a VEI 7 Eruption a much bigger eruption.
