Yes, it's separated by Krakatoa and now there's Sunda straits between those Islands.

@@zeff8820 The old Javanese written records reported a much earlier volcano eruption separated the two islands in the 6th century. The entire Sunda Strait is a volcanic caldera.
@@ludovica271 it has been disproved, actually. The tectonic plates moved centuries ago, separating Java and Sumatra. Krakatoa was not born until later after the two islands got separated.

I went there in person after the tsunami. Apparently they had detection for a volcanic eruption but what they didnt expect is a goddamn landslide. Thats why its unexpected. Just like the 1800s eruption, 2/3 of the island collapse in to that deep caldera.

Oh yes, that tsunami. One of the most devastating in my country since the 2004. To put on perspective, there was a gig playing on the coast and the whole band got swept by it, only the vocal guy remained and even his wife who came with him got killed. It seems that the world can take anything from you, it's just on how we handle it...

No surprise that this should happen, since we know that huge segments of the Hawaiian Islands and the Canary Islands, all similarly created by volcanoes, have collapsed into the ocean in immense landslides throughout their existences.

Looking at the model of the old crater on the ocean floor you can deduce that this volcano ain't yet done with growing and producing more landslides. It's got a big hole to fill in before it grows another mountain to explode again in a few hundred years.
They'll need a better monitoring system.

Why does the simulation not show Kecil Island (Lang Island) being inundated by the wave? It is obvious by pre- & post-collapse photos that the island was totally enveloped by the wave.

Hi, can you simulate the Tsunami that would occur when the whole underwater continental shelf of Norway would slide like in the book The Swarm from Frank Schaetzing? I wonder how accurate the book is in this point.
It was predicted by a scientist early April at the same year, though the prediction said it was caused by megathrust earthquake, not krakatoa's landslide. If only the government took it more seriously...

How about a complete crustal slip 90° to the south, moving 1000 mph plus minus a few mph? Since the oceans aren't tied to the crust, where would the gulf of mex go?
It would be interesting if you could display how all the water ,from surface to sea floor, is moving, not just a few feet of water at the surface. I have to keep reminding myself: ALL the water is moving, and moving very fast, not just the water on the surface. I'm not sure how one would configure such a graphic, though.
