Mount Ibu (ibu=mother in local language) 1325M above sea level. It is stratovolcane type and one of the most active volcane on East Indonesia (Halmahera island). As usual this is the superb video from Martin. Thanks for sharing and really appreciate your excellent work. Mount Ibu has potential danger to global environment. Don't know when the show will go on...
vollxx4 Hmmmpf, it is Indonesia, they probably have five different volcanos erupting at any given time. Great for vulcanologists, not so hot for the residents. The featured eruption is kind of different. It does not seem to be erupting much in the way of new material, it just seems like the incandescent gasses are just reworking existing ash or tephra. The vent gets blocked and then clears, but without enough explosive force to really launch the large blocks and open a pit crater. It is so wonderful to have such advanced digital cameras that can record things that film could never capture, and then digitally shared around the globe in minutes or hours.
Weird how it sounds like a gentle rainfall at times. Just lava rocks. The different types of exploding eruptions are amazing. Some seem to move from annoyed, irritated, angry, mad to final murderous blowout rage. Thanks Martin. Stay safe from ALL threats.
It's crater is like a pan of red hot sand. It is not releasing so much solid material in these footages, but it releases plenty of gases which stirs this pan of red hot sand. The lava just return on the surface and get reheated.
Thanks for great video .Thank you again for not adding music.real volcano eruptions sounds preferred.till then keep smiling with lol Healthy and safely
Since we can see Mount Dukono in the background, he's facing towards the West. I'm guessing he is most likely on the East crater wall, so he's probably about 600 meters (more or less) from the active vent.
These videos are beautiful.I doubt that I will ever witness such an eruption in person, so thank you for sharing these videos of a natural event that I would otherwise never see. Be well and be safe.
Do you have an estimate of the dimensions of the "light grey ash" area the surrounding the "vent"? In camera it looks so "small", but i´m sure it must be quite large and it would be very interesting to know how big it is compared to the average human.
.. umm , it's letting go at pretty good force in this video .. but I agree with you , if the underground plumbing changed up , I would want to be far away
most likely on the crater rim, in which lapilli almost never reaches with this kind of activity. This is equivalent to about 600 meters from the center of the dome.

I love volcanos because they are a necessary part of nature and enjoyed seeing the lighting being created. Well I love them as long as I don't have to live next to one.
Your comment gave me a chuckle. I'm Indonesian, I live on another island 2.500 km away from this particular volcanic mountain. Our own island also has active volcanic mountains, 19 of it with the closest one just shy of 20KM from where I live. I've been to some of our volcanic mountains even witnessed an eruption once. I went to Anak Karakatou sometime last year and just several months later it erupted lol. But what I hate the most here is the earthquakes. Be it vulcanic or tectonic it scares me every time. You'll never get used to it
Seriously phenomenal footage as always. The sound of the lightning popping its so rare to hear. Amazing. It's my dream to film something like this one day.
Very hinky! Where was the camera perched? How far away was the camera from the volcano as it erupted? What type if camera was used for filming? Are we sure this isn't the will being pulled over our eyes? How many volcanoes have you seen with a flat, smooth surface? CG?
🌋Frightening and awe-inspiring at the same time! Mesmerising video! Imagine the sight and the sound up close! Thanks🙏 for giving us a chance to experience this at a safe distance! Stay safe!💟
Amazing. But how did you keep that filming live and not one shake on the camera and how can the sound continue when the video changes completely at 3mins
Beautiful shots and the sound 10:00 sounds like a USMC F-15 taking off! I love the sights WITH the sound! I've always loved your work so any video I KNOW will be GREAT!!
Great, great videography, good audio and what a show. Your effort and skill make for some spectacular viewing. Venting gasses and lava, lightning and a small dust devil ( 9:37 ) on the right just for extra fun.
Outstanding footage! Something that really stands out watching your videos, Martin, is that the sound of an erupting volcano is more like a loud "huffing" than the noises that get foleyed onto Hollywood films. I guess it must depend on the type of eruption? Is it the case that bangs mostly happen when the ejection is supersonic?
Sorry, but what's with the sound. The sound delay and eruption sequence doesn't match up. Some cuts have wind noise on the mic and no eruption noise even during a huge eruption. There was cuts in the video and the sound stayed the same. At night with blue skies in the background. Must have been a full moon with the cloud shadows, but no shadows on the background hills.
All is real sound, no extra delays or editing. Sometimes wind (comig even through wind protected special microphone), sometimes calm. Ash eruptions tend to be silent, strombolians tend to be very noisy, this is its eruption cycle. Distance to the lavadome is 300-400m, so sound delay approx. little more then 1 second. You can verify this on the cracks following lightnings. Shadow of cause, the dissipating ash cloud above the volcano produces moonlight shadow, full moon is at very high elevation in tropic latitudes.

This volcano, located in Indonesia, is a Strombolian (type) volcano. These types of volcanoes are classified by their 1.) relatively mild bursts that happen at 2.) fairly regular intervals during any particular eruption event.
Theory on equipment: I think it's possible that the microphone is hanging on a cord under the drone so that we can't hear the rotors. Thanks if you can confirm!
idk the correct term but i've heard something called "directional microphone", which will only capture sound in front of it NOT from its back nor side if you put this kind of mic about a feet (30 cm) below the drone, i believe this will be much better for stability + capturing the great volcanic sound (or any other sound you're trying to record from drone)

un grand merci
Could anyone tell me what part of world this is?? Pacific ring ?
It's in the credits. Indonesia.
I can't get enough of watching these and you do a outstanding job. Just the pure power amazes me. So beautiful yet so deadly.
Noticed the cone surface had a flat surface as oppose to a common crater which goes deep. Care to explain why this is so...
What is the distance from your point to the eruption place? Did you stay there the whole time, or just the camera? :)
Where is this being held
Just one question, how far away are you from the volcano?
So the comments say this is gunniung ibu, but they also say Strombolian. So which one is it.
This volcano, located in Indonesia, is a Strombolian (type) volcano. These types of volcanoes are classified by their 1.) relatively mild bursts that happen at 2.) fairly regular intervals during any particular eruption event.
Is this filmed in real time?
what a spectacular show.well done on capturing it.thank you for sharing it with us.
Did this just take place or what year is this
It is situated in which country?
Theory on equipment: I think it's possible that the microphone is hanging on a cord under the drone so that we can't hear the rotors. Thanks if you can confirm!
idk the correct term but i've heard something called "directional microphone", which will only capture sound in front of it NOT from its back nor side
if you put this kind of mic about a feet (30 cm) below the drone, i believe this will be much better for stability + capturing the great volcanic sound (or any other sound you're trying to record from drone)
Fantastic footage. Thank you for letting us hear nature. Stay safe!
You can hear the power of this volcano ! Thanks for no music .
Music would have ruined it !
My Peep's natural sound effects are always the best, no need for music etc.
Awesome sequences ! .. but it seemed like almost all were daytime ?
where was the camera positioned
