      @@bronzepodcast Hey brother, thanks for the kind words! Haha I typically just add some compression, specifically the "Broadcast" preset in premiere pros compression effect. Sometimes I'll raise the higher frequencies of the captured signal with some EQ as well. That's pretty much it! (This audio was captured with the Tascam DR10L and the stock mic)

    This is really all you need. Mine is similar, but I've placed my NPF inside of a cage made out of a light socket holder and milled openings for cables and glued magnets to the T5 SSD. It attaches to a magnet with a 1/4-20 screw on the right side of a half rig or placed the handle. The 4K is much better for handheld than the Original, which is why mine now reside inside studio rigs full-time. This is very atmospheric and dreamy footage of Downtown Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

    Good advice, great footage. I've been debating the 18-35 and I'm glad to see the low distortion when zoomed out, and you mentioned it was constant aperture which is nice, not even something I considered
    Another good way to cut down on camera profile that I rarely see brought up is using a V-plate that clips on to a belt or bag with a cable running from it to the camera. If you're using a neck strap and the battery is in your backpack, the power cable can be held to the strap with hair clips for a near invisible power source. cheers

      @thatsreallyamoon 3 роки тому +1

      @@juliusvillavieja Honestly man, is it possible you can just practice? The BM camera gives an image quality that for $1300 (the studio license for resolve is 300 so the camera really is 1000) you can't match with ANYTHING for the price. 12 bit raw is nuts if you want to learn crazy color grading.
      But if you really want good AF WITH such image quality, you unfortunately need to expand your budget so far, that it becomes less fun, more stress. But good news is, if you can forget about the 12 bit, even 8 bit can be played with enough for release on UA-cam. Check Spencer's GX85 videos. You only get 8 bit video, and you can do some good coloring on it. So if you're down with that, a $1700 A7III might be your baby. Autofocus is a cruel mistress lol.

    You don't even need the cage, if you run CFast. CF can record in BRAW Q0 and 3:1 no issue. For nighttime and shallow DoF you can't beat the Sigma but for daytime, handheld or deep focus, try the Olympus 12-100 f4 IS. The IS is incredible, much better than any IBIS in any system existing rn. Those two zooms would be the ultimate wombo combo. It would be really awesome if someone could make plate like battery so you just attach it under your camera, so it's even more compact.
    Seeing your footage makes me want to get back into Black Magic :(

    Nice vid Spencer, not often how see this camera not rigged to the hilt. I like it. How do you go with stabilisation when handheld? I shoot with the original a7S a bit for low light, and even compared to my GX85 I have to put so much extra focus into smooth motion. Also, do you ever include a follow focus in with your lighter rigs? Have been tempted by the Tilta Nucleus Nano of late.

    • @SpencerWhiteman
      @SpencerWhiteman  4 роки тому

      Hey Dom! The stabilization is the hardest part about using this lighter rig, I've been so used to IBIS bodies as of late lol. I did a bit of post stabilization on a lot of the clips, obviously shooting wider and in slow motion helps a bit but I think with a handheld pocket rig you either embrace the jittery look (that look works in some cases) or you'll have to introduce some post stabilization. I never really include a FF in my lighter rigs, just more things to think about and adding to the rig, like a 15mm rod to mount the FF. I do however shoot strictly with a FF on my fully rigged out pocket setup.

      I think you are going to be fine with 4 TB, try to record as much as possible in 8:1 if BRAW for example ( What I use but ProRes is as good, just a preference ) and do not overuse the 60 FPS for no reasons.

    Great video! Thank you for sharing. Does the lack of a top handle and external monitor affect your shoot? I'm trying to minimize my rig to be like yours but I cant really see what I'm shooting from the camera screen at times, especially at low angles.

    • @SpencerWhiteman
      @SpencerWhiteman  2 роки тому

      Thanks Chris! The top handle doesn't bother me at all, but a nice top external monitor would be nice, especially since the pocket doesn't have a tilt screen. If I am shooting low, I'll shoot wide and just blindly shoot, that way I don't have to worry about critical focus. If you need critical focus for shooting low, then an external monitor would work perfectly.

    Also what ND filter do you use? I use one from K&F and I like it but if you have any suggestions that would be good. PolarPro is out of reach, and honestly sometimes I feel like their 2-5 and 6-9 is somewhat of an inconvenient gap? Like there have been times where I maxed out a ND2-400 (~8.65 stops max) VND, and as the sun went down in the next half hour or so, I had to come down past the 6 stop mark. And I feel like that would just add to time in swapping... plus then I'd need $500 worth of filters LOL.
    Sadly I haven't seen any other diffusion + VND yet. Would love some cheaper engineering for similar products haha.

    • @SpencerWhiteman
      @SpencerWhiteman  3 роки тому

      Haha thanks brother!!! I totally agree on the weird positioning of the Polarpro filters, that always seemed strange to me too. I used the Tiffen Variable ND for a long time and I enjoyed it, the unfortunate thing is it has the x pattern issue and no hard stops, so you can accidentally keep turning it and have a cross pattern in your footage if you're not careful. I've been using the Simmod Variable ND for the past 6 months and have loved it. It has really nice glass so I haven't noticed any softening and almost no color cast which is really nice as well. The best part of the filter is the hard stops, you never have to worry about the x pattern. I suggest that bad boy!

    Hey bro I have the same set up but with my viltrox speed booster the image is so soft and I don’t have infinity focus how do I fix this?

      Hey man, have you back focused your Viltrox's internal glass element? That is what I've had to do on both of my Viltrox's to achieve infinity focus. Also, the Viltrox does tend to be soft, mostly at your wide open aperture on your lens. Once I stop down a single stop or 1/2 a stop it starts to sharpen up quite a bit!

      It's actually the S1! Yeah IBIS would've been nice for smaller rigs like this. When I rig my pocket up fully there is no need for IBIS.

      @@SpencerWhiteman ,,, why no need for IBIS on the pocket? Mine picks up every micro jitter hand held.... i wish it had IBIS so i wouldnt need a gimbal or to shoot slow mo.
