    I just bought the newest Ego blower - 650cfm! I just blew off my driveway and the thing is a beast. The most amazing thing is that I pushed the battery indicator button on the battery itself and it still showed a full charge.
    I have been absolutely thrilled with my Ego tools - mower, string trimmer, chain saw and now, thanks to someone who stole my old blower, a new blower.

    Ego blowers are great!, I use the back pack for quite a few of my properties, 7.5 ah is probably recommended which make the handheld more of a niche item. That being said I still crave a good hand blower for certain routes. I mostly love my ego products done a few reviews even though some of the tools skews have some shortcomings the battery platform is unbeatable.

    I bought the Ego 650. I use it to blow leaves and debris off the front and back patio, walkways and sidewalk. It does this job effortlessly and quite honestly I don't see myself needing anything anymore powerful as this blower moves landscape rocks. I do this daily to prevent the leaves and debris from staining my property. I like it because it's quiet enough that it does not disturb the neighbours since I use it every day and it's cordless, so I have the freedom to move around unrestricted. The only drawback is the weight. I'm pretty athletic and I find this blower to be heavy after about 5 minutes. It really requires good grip and forearm strength. Not sure how some older men and women would handle this. But an overall great machine...Just heavy.

      It is an awesome blower. If you have the 650, then I believe it came with the 5.0 Ah battery, so it does have a little weight then. I know because when I am doing leaf cleanup that is the battery that I slap into mine. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org

    Looks like the output nozzle of the EGO was larger. I wonder if it was reduced down, would the output be faster and more powerful? The motor sounds like its spinning faster than the engine but that may not matter depending on displacement. Thanks for the review!

      Actually, it would make it way worse. The Ego uses an axial fan. The Stihl uses a centrifugal fan. Axial fans are great and efficient at moving large volumes of air at low pressures. This is what you want for moving mass. But, Axial fans are not good at generating pressure. The mass flowrate falls quickly as back pressure is increased. Centrifugal fans are much more efficient at generating pressure.

    A great video. The EGO battery powered products are truly a Great bang for the buck with quality. My experience is 25+years as a owner for Lawn Equipment ( I sold the dealership in 2018 / the price was right ). This Marine was always honest with my customers; so, when they saw and asked me about the Stihl Battery Products at the store; I had to be upfront on my opinion because it is about " People before Profits; " thus I would recommend the " EGO Battery Products. " Example: the Stihl BGA 85 with AP300 battery and charger is @ $549.85 vs an EGO with battery and charger @ $ 300.00....OH YEA!

      I really do like my EGO equipment. I was at a friends house last week and he had one of the Stihl cordless blower and I asked him about it. He really liked it and let me try it out. When I did, I thought it was very weak powered. I didn't offer to bring my EGO by because I didn't want him to be disappointment in his Stihl. I felt like ignorance is bliss this time. I bought the EGO 21" SP mower and it replaced my JD JS35. ZERO regrets, i cut's as good if not better then the JD and I can cut my 12K sq ft of lawn on ONE charge and the cut looks awesome so now am going to replace the rest of my yard tools with other EGO products. I'm so done with nasty gas, FUMES, NOISE and safety issues dealing with gas. I'm buying the 600CFM backpack EGO with a 5amp battery included. HD has it on sale for $249 and with my military discount I walk out at about $225 and have a second battery and charger to help support the rest of the EGO tools I'm buying. And their new Power Head is on my short list to round out my lawn care tools. USAF Retired

    My only thought for commercial use is the times that I had no choice but to work in pouring rain. A Stihl blower can handle being outside in the weather for a while, though it isn't good for the life of it, I'm wondering how well the Ego blowers do in the rain.

    I often use the idle on my Stihl as a low power way to gently blow around my delicate plants. I don't always want MAX POWER at those times. Is the electric one capable of a delicate or lower-power setting?

    • @AroundTheHome1

I've had still for years and bought my first ego blower and trimmer . Love the blower bit triller head on the ego the holes where the line comes out is place rather higher then the holes on the stilhl trimmer or echo so when trimming grass not as high is not so great

    Great review. I had to stop reading comments because i forgot about trolls who just love to be negative at all times online. I have the eGo self propelled mower and had the best summer of mowing in my life. great cut, light, quiet, easy to start, compact storage. I tossed it in the trunk and took it to fam's houses to help out several times. I want to get the blower but i'm wondering how heavy it will be with my 7.5 Ah battery. the past i have used an electric corded blower and they are pretty light.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  6 років тому

      A lot of the comments on my EGO videos are negative. They come from a group of people that refuse to even try these new tools. I'm glad that you are liking your mower. I just received the 21" push mower with the 5.0 ah battery. With it being so late in the season I haven't had time to test it much. I have used the 5.0 battery in the blower. The corded blower will be lighter then this one with the 5.0 or the 7.5 battery. But not to have to pull around a cord, is priceless. When you have a blower as easy and convenient to use as the Ego, you find other uses for it that you didn't know you "needed" it for to begin with. I use mine for leaves. Also, for blowing out the garage, light snow removal on stairs deck and patio, drying my car after washing it, blowing leaves off my pool cover, blowing grass clippings back onto my lawn after mowing, re-igniting the fire in the fire pit, blowing hair off my dog and wife after my wife gives the dog a hair cut, blowing dust off my son's pants after a baseball game, etc.....

    Does the ego have the leaf sucking option, with mulching blade inside?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  6 років тому

      No, I'm afraid that it does not. The way the motor is mounted is more efficient on energy and gives it the ability to push more air, but it will not allow a mulching mode.

    These EGO products may work for homeowners but NOT for commercial gardeners unless they have multiple batteries. However, these products may not be designed for heavy commercial use and that may be noted on the EGO literature.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  7 років тому +1

      They feel very well built. You know, I am not positive, but I think they are going for the upper end personal use rather then the commercial use. They probably could compete there as well, but like you said on your other comment, you would have to have a lot of batteries on hand.

    • @DougCeleste
      @DougCeleste 7 років тому

      NATHAN: Thanks for your replies to my comments on this subject. Yah, this product seems much more appropriate for personal home use than commercial use but the high price tag may make people think twice of buying it. I thought it was cheaper than the same price as the gas-powered blower that you demonstrated.

      there are already commercial cordless electric for lawn care or OPEs outdoor power equipment from major brands like stihl, echo, dewalt, ariens and many others even crap ryobi has a sit down mower. cordless electric is already a serious contender because of rapid battery improvement in runtime and power and prices a going down because of competition. cordless were laughable toys just a few years and i still have my cheap black & crapper cordless stuff and its been great never had a single problem and still going strong as the day i bought them and yes i had gas powered equipment before that but i ain't going back

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  3 роки тому

      Jason, you are right about half of what you say, and wrong on the other half. You are right that your gas blower has a longer run time. And you are right that the EGO on turbo and using the 2.5 Ah battery has a max run time of 10 minutes. But there is no way that the gas is more powerful. Even without the turbo they are about even matched. But when the EGO turbo mode is engaged, it blows almost twice as much air out as the STIHL. And that is enough to take care of the average in town yard, front and back, and their neighbor's front yard on 1 charge.

    • @jasonsheney3263

      @@AroundTheHome1 I have a Echo 2520 hand held gas blower. Another thing I don't believe what ego states for cfm. The toro leaf blower states only 605 cfm and 105 mph and it's proven t o be more powerful time and time again than the ego. Look it up if you don't believe me. I understand you tested both units but that gas jobber you used was not running clean. It had alot more. The only time it was running clean was the last test you did when you touched the floor with it you can hear it rev up just for a second.

    Is it true that the ego battery only lasts 15 minutes on full power. I can run my Stihl all day long. My yard is a third of an acre. How many batteries would I need?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  2 роки тому +1

      @Vic Azotea I'm going to lay it straight out for you. The plusses and the minuses. The EGO 530 CFM blower on full power with the Turbo button running non stop will eat the 2.5 Ah battery in 10 minutes. The 5.0 Ah battery in 20. But, let me explain that in a different way. I have the 530 and the newer 650. I totally love them. So, you have to understand that you are pushing like 25% more air with the turbo on then a standard gas blower. Using the 530 with the smaller 2.5 Ah battery I can clear - and I mean actually clear good, not half ass - my garage, driveway, front porch, sidewalk, street curb, back patio, back deck, and my neighbor's street curb, driveway, front porch and walkway. That is using the turbo mode on one charge. These are typical in town homes on 1/4 acre lots. Now, these cordless blowers have plenty of plusses, including snap and go, no warm up, no tune up, ect. But extended run-time is not one. Now, you can use the blower on full power without the turbo mode and get 20 - 25 minutes on the small 2.5 Ah battery. So a single charge is enough to clean up after your weekly mowing. Not a problem there. If you are talking about fall clean up though, you better have more then one battery. I would get out all my batteries from the blower, mower, and string trimmer and burn through them all. But, it is what it is. I hope that answers your questions. Feel free to ask another.

    i got the ego leaf blower and my property is about an acre in size. I have to do it in sections because battery won't last. I don't see the point in not using the turbo because its weak on the non-turbo setting. Batteries are so expensive so i'll be buying a stihl gas blower soon. That said, its a cool blower and if i had a normal size lot it would be perfect, i'll probably keep both in case i need to do a small section i don't have to crank up the gas blower.

      When you say you have an acre sized yard and the blower runs down are you talking about doing fall clean up?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  2 роки тому

      Actually I am going to just go ahead and assume that you are talking about a yard clean up and not just blowing out your garage and driveway. If that is what you are doing then a single 2.5 Ah battery is not even close to giving you the run-time for that. On my 1/3 acre lot, with a decent amount of trees on the fence line, I would use two 2.5 Ah and 1 5.0 Ah battery. Doing a clean up like that sucks the power like crazy. When people ask me about the blower and what I think I first ask them what they are using it for. It is so great to snap the battery in and blow out your garage and sidewalk / driveway. And there are people that I know that really can't pull start tools anymore. But it is not good for full yard cleanup if you only have the one battery. I have several tools, therefor I have several batteries. So, it works ok for me. Here is our website with all our EGO videos that might help you out more. www.aroundthehome.org/ego-power-plus.html

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  6 років тому

      I don't have exact times, but on non-stop turbo it is limited to less then 10 minutes. About 25 on regular throttle. You might think that is really small, but I can blow off my garage, driveway, sidewalk, street edge, front porch, back porch, back deck, and my neighbors driveway, sidewalk, and street edge while on turbo on one charge. I do not keep the blower on while I am walking through the yard, but I am spending enough time to do it really well.

      Nathan Cox thank you so much for the quick reply! Appreciate the video. I have the EGO trimmer and it rocks. No problems with my good size yard getting it done with more power to spare. I have tons of trees and lots of leaves so I think I should probably stick with The Ryobi 160 mph 25 cc I bought the other day. It’s got pretty great power for the price and even though I could get the EGO blower with the battery and have two of them I usually have a good deal more than 20 minutes of full speed blowing that I need to do. Luckily the premixed 2 stroke they offer now seems to have made it a lot less inconvenient. We are however going to buy this for my father-in-law and I think it will fit his needs perfectly. Seems like a great blower for most people’s needs.

      No problem. Glad that you are liking the string trimmer. The blower isn't for everyone, but is a blessing to many that can't pull start very well. Also, since it is electric I can blow my garage out every week even in 10 degree whether with no fumes and no waiting for it to warm up. Of course, the run-time does stop some people. They have a larger handheld unit with the 5.0 ah battery that does last twice as long and a backpack version as well. But it sounds like you are happy with your Ryobi unit so that is good. I'm not here to tell people they all need to buy the same products. Just helping everyone figure out what is best for their needs. By the way, if you have bushes they have a hedge trimmer that is awesome and you can get it as a bare tool. I also have a video on that.

    Liked and subbed at 0:10.
    I have a still that I didn't do any winterization or cleaning of any kind for 13 years until the car started giving me problems and I did that exact thing. I've got the 650 blower, but the 600 backpack kit was on sale for $239 today so I'm actually unboxing it right now.
    I paid 312us for the 650cfm with 5ah battery and charger.
    240us for 600cfm backpack blower, 7.5ah battery, and charger.
    I need to return at least one of them according to my wife. The other option is the slightly underpowered handheld model, is now on clearance for 150us and comes with a 2.5ah battery and charger.
    I was going to pick that up also and test all three against each other with the same size battery but the wife was not keen on that idea. Is there any additional information outside of this video that anyone can provide me of which of those three are their favorite and why?
    I found the repair parts for my Stihl blower a year ago, but because the gas tank is literally part of the body I have to take the entire thing apart just to put it into a different body.
    I'm fed up with carbs, but this battery thing just doesn't seem to be able to get the work done faster or much more efficiently than gas.
    I buy premixed fuel in a can so mixing isn't a problem, although it's very nice to be able to listen to my headphones at a reasonable level while using outdoor power equipment.
    I'm rambling, so I'll wrap up by saying EGO and HD are parting ways, clearance sales have begun in the stores near me, picked up the backpack kit ($240us) and hedge trimmer ($139us/kit. $120us/tool only), The foldable type trimmer is 135 with 2.5ah battery and charger.
    I'm kind of pissed about that one because I paid $189, full price, for mine in July and it dropped $20 3 days later, and now this period if only the wife's name wasn't on the HD card.
    Thanks in advance for your time if you read this and wasted your life minutes on it, relay any info you can the consumers need to know. Take care be well.

      I know it's hard to decipher my wall of text, I have a couple pictures if you'd want to see them. I'm just not real savvy on how or where to post pictures. I have two stores in the town 20 minutes north of me.
      The news with HD and Ego split came about a month ago as well as the news of them striking a deal with Lowe's, which is in the city south of us about 20 mins, not to mention that they don't carry Ryobi tools, the only other retailer would be a small mom-and-pop Ace Hardware store, but that changes the whole dynamic of getting things on clearance. The east and west HD stores North have different prices, even though I experienced that they can sell each other's product, but it's been a big mess. I've never cared for HD customer service or floor assistance is virtually non-existent in either stores, then again I've been to Lowe's much more recently and I didn't really notice much of a difference except color palette swap and no Ryobi tools.
      I just thought I would get all that out there, it's good knowledge it's a good time to save some money when the corporate scales are shifting.
      I'm not sure where else to share this knowledge.
      I tested the backpack kit and the hedge trimmers kit last night and was not super impressed with either of those, especially since I have the 650 handheld blower. It's much easier on my back even with the heavier battery, but missing that 50cfm difference between them is noticeable, then again, they are two different tools and it's clearly written on the box what their specs are.
      The trimmers are okay, it seems to me that their RPM cycle is too low, but I noticed that their blades are spaced apart further than other hedge trimmers I own, but yesterday I saw it take a small limb off that was the circumference of my thumb, approximately a half inch to 3/4 in. It cut clear through, before that I was completely unimpressed and I feel it's even heavier than the 650 blower, even with the 2.5ah battery.
      For $140 kit/$120 tool, it's a no-brainer to pick up something you wanted to check out for a while even if you don't like it, you have another charger battery and an extra tool.
      The 2.5ah batteries are clearanced at $80, so for another 60 I got a charger and a hedge trimmer.
      I'm pretty sure the wife isn't going to let me keep the backpack AND the 650 blower, but if by some miracle she does allow it, I'll be pretty excited.
      BRING ON THE LEAVES!!!

    A few things... First off, I LOVE my Ego tools!!! I literally have almost all of them. However, when it comes to the blower, I went back to a gas powered backpack blower. I was going through batteries like crazy!!! I was literally getting about 5 minutes on my 2 and 2.5 ah batteries. I could edge and string trim my entire yard with one battery with power to spare but the blowers have to run REALLY fast and hot to produce that much air speed which drains the batteries in minutes. Also, you should ALWAYS buy a tool/battery combo if available. It's only $50 to $70 more but a spare 2.5 ah battery will run you about $135 if you decide you need one later on. You could always sell it online and make a little money back. One last thing, heat is the Achilles heel to these batteries, so I store and charge mine indoors in the AC. Also I have a rule, I wait at least 12 hours before charging and another 12 hours before using them again.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  4 роки тому

      I love them as well. You are right about the blower, it is a power hog. Though I honestly get like 10 minutes on my 2.5 battery when using turbo. Of course you don't have to use turbo and you get like twice the battery life, but who wants to do that. You are also right, even though they sell bare tools, it is better to get the tool battery combo. The stihl will pretty much last forever. I have a 1984 stihl 028 wood boss chainsaw that still runs like new and have only serviced it once in its life. Also stihl still makes replacement parts for it. I have a 1999 stihl string trimmer as well that I've only had to do a carb kit on once as well as replace the fuel filter/lines. While battery tools are convenient battery platforms don't last more than 5 or so years give or take. When that battery dies will you be able to find a replacement for it in 10 years? No it goes to the dump. In 5-10 years when you need a carb kit on the stihl you can buy it for $10 if you know what you are doing or replace the carb completely for $30 instead of forking out another $200 for a new battery operated blower. Also even that cheaper blower you smashed in the intro was fixable. Probably a walboro k-10 carb kit or zama equivalent if it was zama and that thing would have run like new again. I'd rather spend less and learn something any day over spend more just because I'm lazy and don't want to learn how to install a carb kit.

      Brushless electric motors have exactly *one* moving part. They are going to be reliable.
      Also, if you look closely at the EGO batteries, they're actually just filled with 18650 cells. Those are industry standard battery cells, which are also used by Telsa.

    I just went from this exact stihl model to this exact ego model. The stilh starter is junk. And I got tired of it. I love being able to just pick up the EGO and hit the trigger right away for immediate action. With that said, you are only getting 20 minutes on the stock battery. And that's at the high setting which is 500 cfm. To me, the Stihl is slightly more powerful than the ego at the egos high setting. However, the ego is much more powerful on the turbo setting at the expense of about a 10-minute run time if you keep hitting turbo. I would also like to note that the ego has a weird balance to it that makes my wrist hurt, and I'm a pretty big dude. I think it has to do with the battery weight. At the end of the day I ended up getting a gas powered backpack Blower for normal yard work. I kept the ego for quick tasks. But I would never go back to that stihl due to the shoddy starter. Hope this helps.

      Thanks for the input. As far as the angle goes, for me it was just something that I had to get used to. The gas blower's tube already has a downward angle and the EGO comes straight out. Sot the handle is designed to angle the whole unit downward. I found myself fighting it at first, but after getting used to it I found it comes natural.

    I believe Petrol is better as to run all day away from 240v socket you would need 16 batteries. The 56 BG you would only need 5 litres of fuel. They say electric motors have more torque but I have found a petrol engine deals with high load far better the revs slowly decrease. A battery overheats and cuts out which is shit.

      Chris, I do agree with you if that is your situation. Gas equipment still has advantages, and run time especially out in the field is one of them. What I am showing here is how far the electric has come and for most home owner, is now the better choice. As far as batteries overheating and cutting out, sure, but not with these new EGO batteries. They have been re-designed to stop that and that is why I like the EGO above all other companies that just use big brick battery packs. Thanks for watching. You know, I'm not sure that you can be pleased here. I thought about your comments, and starting it off with lol says a lot. This is like a Ford vs Chevy conversation. Where each party is so blinded by loyalty that neither can see that both sides have pros and cons. If you are needing a blower for commercial use and have many yards on the same street and have a guy that just goes around blowing everyone's yard then this is not for you. But if you are a homeowner in a regular in town lot and want a good blower then it is. If you are a homeowner with some acreage and want a good blower to blow out your garage and driveway, then this is for you. If you like keeping your garage blown out and clean as a whistle and don't want to wait for a gas blower to warm up, then this is for you. If you like to keep your garage and front porch blown off, even in 10 degree weather and don't want to wait for your blower to warm up and stop blowing that stinky fuel because it is so cold, then this is for you. Battery tech has evolved so much over the last decade and EGO is ahead of the curve for the outdoor power equipment. Even though their line might not be the best choice for everyone. I honestly believe that it is the best choice for most.

      I own the ego snowblower, so I already have 2x 5.0Ah batteries on hand, and I'm this close to buying the ego 530 or 575 model at the store. But, the batteries are EXPENSIVE... especially compared to gas. I'm sure I could buy a new 5 gal. gas can, and 9 complete refills for the price of an extra 2.5 Ah battery, or 17 refills for the price of a 5.0 Ah battery.
      The gas equipment is going to have a much lower cost of ownership for a while, but I really love the perks of the battery powered tools... No gas fumes, don't need to shower after using them, no tune ups (that's what would up the cost of gas equipment for me!), and instant start with no back breaking pull starts.
      I'm still debating between the ego 530 w/ 2.5 Ah battery and charger for $179 and the 575 w/o battery or charger for $149...

    Echo not Stihl is the bench mark for gas power blowers. They are the Originators of the backpack blower. I Have used them since 1981. They last forever, have 2 that are 9 yrs old and are used commercially. Can get parts anywhere and easy to fix. Start it at 7:00am and go til 5:30 pm on $4.00 in gas/oil. Time is money! I would have to buy extra batteries and charger, hope the homeowner had an outside outlet and doesn't mind me using it. Ego is a nice toy for a homeowner with a few trees and a patio. The test should have been wet leaves in bushes. This is as stupid/pointless as when you did cut the lawn test and grass had already been cut. The blower Beach Ball test only proved the they could blow a beach ball. No one has ever called me to blow up their beachballs.

      @MenoPassini "The test should have been wet leaves in bushes." EXACTLY why are there no youtube videos doing this

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  7 років тому

      Not saying that gas doesn't still have relevance when it comes to commercial applications. But to completely write electric off because it doesn't work for your situation is just dumb. It not a toy for homeowners. As far as why I didn't blow wet leaves out from underneath bushes. What?! Exactly what does that do. Let me set up a test that I can't regulate, at all. Blowing paint cans or beach balls show air force. And those tests are accurate because they are tested with the exact same object in the exact same situation. Five years ago the cordless units were toys. But the new lines that have just come out, especially the EGO line, are anything but that. There are so many more things that I can do with my electric, that I couldn't do with my gas unit. The only thing I can't do is outdo run time. But as a homeowner, when the unit can do my house twice on one charge, that is more then sufficient.

      Nathan Cox. Your Right you can blow up your beach balls in the living room and I can't. Blowing leaves in the bushes is a real work condition. Let's not get reality involved in your videos. I see homeowners all the time with a garage full of the latest lawn equipment, who realize they can get a years worth of lawn maintenance for the price of their equipment expense. Love it when they try to sell me their "slightly used equipment" or ask to trade work. Electric DC will be the way of the future you are NOT telling me anything new. Landscapers have seen Gas powered equipment changes because of EPA rules and City's noise ordinances for years. We demoed battery powered equipment 10 years ago at trade shows. The overheating batteries and batteries that get water soaked and die, along with short running time are a problem. DC motors have come along way. I always check to purshase DC powered equipment ie Furnace/ AC units in my commercial rental properties. In 5 years you will see the 3rd generation of these Battery powered Lawn equiment. You will see Landscapers trailers full of Battery powered equipment. The Battery powered equipment manufacturers need to come up with standard sized batteries that are interchangeable. You can not send out a crew with 20 different batteries/Chargers to run 3 pieces equipment.

    Just sick of gas powered blowers and weed eaters. Starting after one season is a pain and they bog down a lot. Starting a gas powered trimmer after one season is not good. I've spent more on repair bills than the actual units. They also don't make things durable like they used to... I know it's cliche to say that but it's true

      You clearly weren’t buying Stihl stuff. KM130R trimmer that’s 7 years old and runs ethanol fuel starts first pull, even after winter. My Bg86 blower with ethanol fuel made it 9 years before it was time to put a 20 dollar carb kit on it. It starts in 3 pulls even after sitting all winter. Both are still on their original spark plugs.
      I’d bet both will run another 10 years at least.
