  • My Federal Couragia tires have 5000 miles on them since I put them on my truck. So this is a video on how they have performed for me in the last 5000 miles. I give tread depth, tire wear, noise, handling and a bunch of other info on these tires in this video.
    As always, thanks for watching and please subscribe and hit the thumbs up button if you like this video.
    I did another video about two years after this one discussing my thoughts on this tire. My view point changed some since this video was made. If you would like to see my latest thoughts on this tire check out this video titled: Federal Couragia Review Part 3

    I have a 2006 f150 xlt extended cab 4wd and I have had two consecutive pairs of these tires. I love them.i run them at about 35psi and i got about 60k miles out of mine till they got down to 1/4 tread and I gave them away and I just recently bought a new pair. Definitely a good tire, especially for the price.

    All we've got here in FL is mud and sand. No rocks snow or whatnot. My first choice was nitto trail graps but after waiting 8 months on backorder Im looking for a backup. Thanks for the real video and real experience

      I’ve always siped my tires. Even in warmer climates they help the tire to cool faster and potentially increase tire life too. (So I’ve been told).
      In any case they definitely help in the snow and certainly can’t hurt at other times.

    I’ve had these tires on my truck for 3 years. 35’s. They’re awful, gone through several sets because they wear down super unevenly and create an insane death wobble so I’ve gone through like 3 sets. Pros: Really good in the mud before they inevitably lose all the tread and they’re super cheap. Only reason I keep buying them. Just bought a brand new set yesterday 🤷🏻‍♂️

      JoeyH547 I recently did another video explaining my thoughts on the tires after 20,000 miles. I totally agree with you. Knowing what I know now, I don’t recommend these tires for daily drivers. Maybe a weekend toy like a Jeep or dedicated off-road vehicle but that’s about it.
      Routine rotations are a must and life span will be short.

    I don't know brother , I was always told that mud only tires were not the greatest in snow . But I'm sure they do well , just not like a regular rough tread snow tire . But good review buddy , interesting.

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  5 років тому +1

      It really depends on the type of snow. Light, fluffy snow vs. Wet, heavy slushy snow vs. Deep vs...... you get the idea. There is no perfect tire for every situation. I've logged a lot of miles in a wide variety of driving conditions with all sorts of setups and a mud tire is what I prefer. No, it's not the greatest on hard pack snow or ice but in my experience mud tires are better when the white stuff gets deeper.
      Thanks for the positive comment though!

    I probably will get these since I don't want to spend too much on all terrain tires 215/75/15 (375$ on ebay) on those black basset wheels. I have federal formoza 215/55/17 (performance all season) which I bought for 280$ on ebay as well for my subaru baja turbo and I actually love them. I'm sure these would be fine with my forester (lifted 2")

      jim crawford you’ll like them. Just rotate frequently to reduce on tire noise and vibration.
      The more often you do this (I recommend every 3000 miles with these tires.) the longer they’ll last and and continue to be be as smooth as possible.
      Checkout my part 3 video if your curious what my thoughts on them were after 20,000 miles.

    Good review
    You thing they'll wear less on a ranch truck being used only on weekends and used for about 12 miles total (no pavement driving), only on rough aggressive sharp stone country road conditions?

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  5 років тому +1

      It's been my experience with living in off grid situations and on rough, dirt, country roads that tires don't last as long in those environments (mileage wise).
      The reason is rougher surfaces and sharp surfaces like rocks tend to cut and tear into the tread more than a smooth surface. Once the tread gets sliced and cut up a bit it's easier for small chunks and pieces to be ripped or torn off, thus reducing tire life.
      With all that said, in the environment you described I think these tires would be a great option. First off, they'll be tough enough to handle the rough conditions. Second, because of the rough conditions and knowing that you'll get reduced tire life, I would rather spend less on a tire. And these tires are about half the cost of other comparable tires. And the agresive tread design will provide excellent traction for you.
      You didn't mention how often you travel that 12 miles? Is that once a day? Weekly? Monthly? In any case, I think that with such few miles driven even with the sharp rocks you'll get many years of use out of them for a dedicated farm vehicle.
      Thanks for watching and let me know if you have anymore questions.

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  5 років тому

      I just re-read your comment and noticed you said on the weekends. Yes, these tires will serve you well.
      I would also like to add, any tire, even the more expensive brands won't last as long in the dirt and off road conditions as they will on the road.

    Hmm. came here for the tire info. On the fence of putting them on my dually dealing with Texas 110 heat. Not sure, then again, any tire has the possibility to low. Guess its the price as we are trained "more expensive the better".

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  5 років тому

      I live in south east Texas now, haven't had an issue with these tires yet.
      Since this video was made they have started to get pretty noisy and they are wearing pretty fast too.
      I think they would work fine on a dually but if you put a lot of miles on your truck or tend to tow heavy on a regular basis I would prefer to spend more on a better tire.

      @@UsedEveryDay Ya, im in the 100 mile ,give or take, triangle of San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi and Austin. Ive owned my truck now for 8 months and only crossed the 2500 mile mark yesterday. The only heavy towing i deal with is a gooseneck cattle trailer maybe a 40ft trailer when i find a decent one scaling 20k every so often. In all, i dont think towing or miles would bother me. Miles wise, its usually 100 mile trips and around town. Especially since work is about 2 miles away. Im just worried they might be too loud, but i do know the factory Roadian tires whine too. Also, they are tearing up my trucks bed with the rocks they love to throw. Occasionally i do a 300 mile trip with family, thats why the noise level as i dont want them complaining. My old gasser truck thats straight piped has Cooper Dicoverer ATS tires. Wanting a more aggressive for my dually. Looking at the 35s, if i can get away with it, or 33s with a 2 in spacer on my duals. 4th gen ram.

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  5 років тому

      Brandon Caldwell regular tire rotations will be key in keeping them as quite as possible. Even expensive Toyo tires will get loud if not rotated regularly. It’s just the nature of an aggressive mud tire. A trade off you have to live with if you want that look or capability.
      By the sounds of it you don’t tow enough to be of big concern. I’d say give them a try.

  • @Dialysisforever
    @Dialysisforever 4 роки тому

    80psi looks to be its max pressure. Are you not worried when they get warm or when you load the truck up and the pressure goes above the max pressure rating that you will have a blow out? Thanks for the video.

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  4 роки тому

      80 PSI was max for those tires. I wasn't worried as many people inflate tires to the max to achieve the max rated load capacity of the tire. It was also the recommendation of my local tire shop to inflate them this high due to the way I used them.
      I would like to just add that although I towed and hauled heavy loads with this truck on a regular basis it was always locally in my area. If I was on the open road all the time with heavy loads (like a hot shot driver) I wouldn't recommend this.
      With that said, I did make the trip to Texas with these tires towing 14,000 lbs at the max inflation with zero issues.
      Unfortunately the truck was totaled in a collision last June and I no longer have the truck or the tires.
      Thank you for watching.

  • @justinmanny86
    @justinmanny86 2 роки тому

    I'm new to having federal couragia MTs. The guy that put them on my truck put 80psi in the tires but I read all over the internet that people are running them at like 35-40 psi. Whats the best psi for just driving on the street?

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  2 роки тому +1

      You would only run the tires at max inflation if you plan to be running them at max Load capacity. 80psi is certainly to much.
      Doing a chalk test is the best way to determine the proper psi for tire with your vehicle. Basically you cover the tread surface of the tire with chalk and on a dry, paved parking lot or lengthy driveway you drive in a straight line and adjust the air up or down until even tread pattern wear appears on the tire. There are several UA-cam vids showing how it’s done if you search for chalking a tire.
      To much air pressure will wear the tire prematurely in the center of the tire. To little and they wear prematurely on the edges.
      Another method I use often to get you close to where it should be is to use percentages. If the weight of the vehicle, It’s load and passengers that will be typical of its daily use is 60 percent of the of the tires max load rating then inflate the tire to 60% of its max inflation. This method tends to work well for me.

    How do you think they’ll hold highway being a daily 120 miles round trip, thanks

    • @UsedEveryDay
      @UsedEveryDay  4 роки тому

      I don’t think you’ll ever have a tire failure in the since of blowouts, sidewall or tread separation etc.
      However, after this video was published I moved to Texas and drove my truck 150 miles daily for 5 weeks before it got totaled.
      The tires worked fine but tread wear was not very good and they won’t last very long in that environment. They also got very noisy!
      For consistent highway driving I don’t recommend this tire.
      Checkout my other video I did “Federal Couragia Review Part 3” (link attached) to see what my final thoughts were on this tire.
      Https://UA-cam.be/GUOBQtqZMN8
      I also took my wife’s van with this same tire on a 1200 mile round trip. They were fine but the noise was almost un-bearable.

      Believe me, it was considered. But your statement isn't exactly true.
      On F350 models they fit. On F250 models like mine they don't always fit. For my truck in particular I would have needed a level kit.
      The tires I chose to go with was about as tight as I would have dared go without a level kit.
      If you want to see how close they were, checkout my first impressions video I did. I show the clearances in that video.
