Propagate hundreds of hoyas with me (with 30 days update)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 сер 2024
- This propagation video is secretly a propaganda to get you hooked to hoyas if you haven’t already. I propagate hundreds of hoya cuttings, across many species, using every propagation method imaginable, and potted in various mediums and pots. I aim to show you that hoyas are not just mysterious and stunning, they also propagate easily and are adaptive to a wide variety of soil medium. I insert a lot of propagation techniques and plant care tips in this video so don’t miss out on that! However if you are impatient, feel free to skip right to the end where I show you a 33 day update on the propagates! This portion is my personal fave.

I've been hoya obsessed since sitting at my grandmas table, nibbling toast, while staring at her hanging carnosa in a ceramic parrot planter as a child. We had a cutting in our west facing window growing up and it would fill our cedar home with the most exquisite fragrance on summer nights. That cutting is 47 years old now and I have my own cutting and several other cultivars. They are truly special.
Whoaaaa 47 years old! Sometimes reminds us that plants have been around far longer than we have... and will probably go on and on...
@@onlyplants It's true! I don't know what happened to my grandmothers plant, or her cool planter. But I feel honoured to have a cutting and to take care of my mother's plant.
How wonderful! Shout out to grandma for introducing you to Hoyas ❤️
that is remarkable
Pp@@onlyplants
I've got a little tip for how to speed up propagation. I saw for the first one, the Hoya retusa, you cut each cutting individually, put your shears down, pinched the leaves and stuck it in the soil. This takes a lot of time. The way we used to do it when I worked as a gardener is that we'd cut the whole vine and then just stick the lowest stem, where we just cut, in the soil and then cut above the node. Stick the next stem right beside the first one, cut above, repeat. This works well for any vining plants with fairly sturdy, not too long internodes (the stem between nodes). It's also easier for plants with smaller leaves, because if the leaves are big you have to do some manual tucking and turning to fit multiple cuttings. Don't know if you apply this method later in the video, haven't watched far into it yet.
Btw, you can stop the white sap by putting the cut areas in warm water for just a little bit, no more than a few minutes. This works with ficuses too, and really any plant that produces the milky sap. Though this is probably more useful to any viewers reading this than it is to you, as you said it doesn't bother you ;)
Whoaaaa cool tip. It will definitely cut down propagation time and also not confuse you as to which side up the cutting is
@@onlyplants exactly, that's another nice side effect 😄
I saw your video yesterday. I kept waking up all night thinking about giving my Hoyas a haircut. Today I did. Some of them never had a haircut in 13 years so they are large and some are 20+ from a friend. Some are only about 5-6. And I was greedy!!! Omg I have soooo many cuttings!! And the plants look great with their haircuts. Thank you for reaching me that it’s ok to trim them like this. Very inspiring. I will have plants soon for plant swaps.
Nice! I love cutting up hoyas they propagate so easily
No Young Prince, I am not bored by this. This is educational and one does not have to sit and watch faithfully. One can do something while you are doing plant play. Background music is nice. Thank you for sharing love for plants.
Thank you so much
I enjoyed every second of this. My favorite thing about your channel is your willingness for multiple propagation methods. It really gives me courage to try as well. Thank you very much!!
😀😀
Sean, because of this video you opened my interest in collecting Hoya's and now there's no turning back because the interest turned into love.🤗 Gees... I watch this episode many times now.😅 please give us more Hoya episodes in the future if you have the chance. Keep up the great work. Thank you.💚happy💚planting💚x💚
Whoaaa thank you. Ill be doing some more hoyas soon. 😀
@@onlyplants we are all looking forward to more 💯hoya 🌱content from you soon. 💚🌞👏
Love everything about this video. Not boring at all! Your voice is really soothing. It’s a very informative video. The music is just right. I love this Chanel.
Thank you ❤️ this is so kind
This is the best plant/ hoya video I have ever watched, and I am not done. Thank You
Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Okay.. the hoya on a tree is BLOWING MY MIND!!! I've always wanted to see hoyas in their natural growing state ❤❤❤
They look really wild in the jungles!
@Nhu N - I LOVED looking at that too! 🇨🇦
Absolutely loved this video. I have been growing Hoyas for over 13 years and just recently learned there are so many more of them. I want them all!!!
Same!!!!
I want all of the Hoyas!
Appreciate the hardwork and effort to film this, especially using one hand to handle the cuttings and the other hand holding the camera =) thank you
This was the best video, I had it playing while I did my plant chores!!!!
Whoaaa nice I hope you got a lot done 😌
@@onlyplants ģ
Lol! Me too!
You REALLY need a camera man 😥
Can’t see the details of what you’re doing... a little frustrating 😩
currently doing this!
Just got off working all night and was up all day. Defiantly going to have to sit down and watch these. I've started collecting Hoya and have 24 different varieties so far. Many are still small. Can't wait to see them flower. I've managed to get a few really rare ones. But most are more common. Lots to learn, and this looks like a good spot.
watched this without skipping lolll, officially into hoyas, probably more than philodendrons now (oops not sorry) thanks to you and kaylee ellen 🤣
Omg stopp I cant believe I was used in the same sentence as Kaylee Ellen. She’s a plant godess.
@@onlyplants you guys both have good quality videos and are my fav plant youtubers though!!
The Hoya looks so happy running wild up the tree. You should release more of them😂
😀😀 thats a nice idea
this is such a relaxing fun video! such an amazing hoya collection! also the koi fish are soooo beautiful 😍😍
Thank youu 😌🙏🏽
You cut your Hoya’s as calmly as I cut my pothos! 😊
Haha wait till you see how I cut up my pothos 🙈
I absolutely love your videos Sean, they are so informative and you’re one of the first people I go to when I get a new plant to get the lowdown so thank you very much!
Thank you. Very kind of you to write in and to stick around the channel ❤️
I followed your tips and propagated my Hoyas and most turned out hugely successful. Thanks a lot. Your videos are very useful and helpful.
India.
You’re welcome 😀
I thank you for showing all the different methods ... I am growing in a fairly cool climate in Melbourne Australia .. I find that the carnosas and Bella love the cooler conditions . ... Now that I have watched this I will be butterflying and looking for aerial roots and trying all propagation methods .. It is winter here and my hoyas grow mostly outside undercover and get plenty of filtered light.. Also have some growing inside where they hang in the window which gets all the morning sun... I keep some semi tropicals inside ... Bella is an awesome hoya and flowers well inside for me in my Bathroom .. cheers from Aus
I just love these plants! My Hoyas are doing great. They have grown fast in the last month. I live in southern CA, I guess our weather is doing fine with this type of plant. Thanks a bunch!
😀
2 of my favourite things....Hoya and Propogating. Best video ever 💚🪴
So glad you added timestamps in the beginning. I'm adding this video to a playlist I'm curating. I have a feeling I'm going to have to buy a hoya to cut up. I dont own any yet. Be back later.
I have videos addressing specific hoya species on the channel (and many more coming) 😀
@@onlyplants look forward to watching it. 👍🏼
Using the coconut husk makes it so aesthetically beautiful! Good eye!!
Thanks so much for taking us along on your Hoya propagation day! Now I have the courage to make multiple cuttings from 1 long stem! I’m so eager to make fuller Hoya pots!
😀😀
B,br,rr.. it's f***ing freezing up North. Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. Look at all those exotic looking lush green (indoors for us) plants growing right now in the open air! I am just feeling as green as all your plants put together.
GREEN WITH ENVY. ha! ha! You've been great! I feel cheered up now for the whole rest of the week. Gonna be looking out for more Vlogs. Thankyou.
Lol balls of brads monkeys
I would love to see your koi’s, I catch a glimpse every so often
Haha its my dads. They are bigger than my dog
The first time I fell in love in hoya was when I watched Julie Nicole utube channel 3 years ago but then I became a hoya"s serial killer. Hopefully after watching ur video then I can change my title as a hoya lover 😝. I love hoya because it's unique leaves rather than it's flowers ... Hoya's flowers is a bonus. Thank u for teaching about hoya care n propagation ❤️👍
Omg me too! I’m literally a Hoya serial killer I think!! I don’t know what the hell i am doing wrong but everything loves me besides Hoyas !! I keep getting them anyway trying to get it but I think I let it dry out too much afraid to water them end up killing them!
@@kris_baby33 hahahaha I'm not alone
Ive only had one Hoya in the past. It was a huge compacta that reached the ground from 3’ up. Absolutely gorgeous plant! I do want another one. Im not a huge fan of Hoya because I don’t appreciate the vining, but my friend gave me 2 cuttings last night & they’re beautiful plants. One was the pubicallus splash & the carnosa crimson something. Nice video!
I love your dog. What a cutie! Wow, your plants are so beautiful...
🥰🥰
Sean, thank you so much for providing this video. VERY informative and fun! (Plus, I love your personality and the way you "nerd out"!) I was unsure how to propagate my struggling retusa and you showed me exactly what to do. (I might even attempt to "butterfly" propagate two of my dischidias. Wish me luck! Would love to have a fuller, vining lanceolata and ovata.) Take care.
I rewatch this because im repotting & doing propa. Hoyas!! Your videos are very helpful!💚❤️🌿🌿🌿
😀 thank youu
“I’m going to get super greedy here... very very greedy!” lol 😂 This is me in a nut shell!
I love everything about this 😂💚🌿 the information, the scatty presentation, the music and of course the plants 🤪👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
This is the most entertaining and informative Hoya video I have watched in a long time 💚🌱🌿🪴💚
Hello from Australia, your Hoya’s are beautiful 😃 Your haircuts are so artistic. I’m sure most of your new cuttings will grow - as I can see the love and care you show them.
Thank youu hope all is well in Australia 😀
@@onlyplants yes, all is well at the moment here in Oz 🐝
Pemirsa menang banyak inii 🥳 Thank you for taking from your already limited personal time to share us lots of knowledge Sean ❤
Thank you for coming along 😌
Exquisite English. I feel that you had the best methods that really work. You are genius!
Thank youu I learnt from the best!
Do you know what, I put on this video to go for sleep, because I love hearing you talking. Tomorrow I look it again, love it, love you 🙂😀✌
Wow Im really happy to hear that I brought you calm. 😌
Eh sama...saya jg suka dengerin suara mas Sean klo mau istrht, thx mas Sean 😊
I put this video on to fall asleep too! 🙈 Soo calming
This is the longest prop video ive ever seen! I love it!
Haha thank youu.. 😅
I love your collection but omg, those little doggies are sooo cute
Watching this again (autoplay, lol), and I am reminded of how greedy I usually am when propagating as well. LOL
I got freebies from my neighbor today- their jade pothos is overtaking their front yard, lol- and I saw myself in that bit when you were looking at the cutting intently and figuring out what you were gonna do with it, then decided you're going to be greedy about it. So me! LOL
oh I was supposed to get one just last week but hesitated due to sudden change of price. It's really getting popular now. Thanks for the badge a must have on my list... Happy gardening to everyone here... subscribed...
Welcome to the channel! 🙏🏽
I am in love with your voice and your narration...so soothing. You should make a much longer video.
I just started watching your videos and I absolutely love them!! I can't believe you haven't been doing it longer. Thank you! I'm hoping to see one of a tour of all your plants.
Thank you so much. Am glad we are connected 😌❤️
I can’t believe you have so many plants! What you can do with the new plants is trade them or sell them. Maybe you already have enough 😅😅
Your dogs are cute and your koi fish are gorgeous.
Thank youu
HOYA there!!!
Your video brought back some childhood memories with my grandmother. A very silent woman with all her hoyas from her balcony wildly climbing to the canopies , intertwining with her grapes , seeing those uniquely flowers dangling like Christmas balls.
Now I remembered where I got the love of colors.
Didn't noticed the video was long , memories are best remembered especially at this time of uncertainty.
Thank you.
Just got my very first Hoya ( hoya Pubicalyx ) today.
Thank you. The pubicalyx flowers very reliably make sure you give it bright indirect light and never overwater it! Good luck
"there's a new leaf coming out here... so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna cut it" 😂
I love your outdoor living room! Beautiful plants, Great commentary, thanks for the video!
I just bought my very first Hoya over a month ago. I got the tri-color krimson queen and I am so happy to have watch your propagation video because I want more. They are so beautiful! Love your collections! 💕
Thank youuu. That hoya is what got me started with hoyas😀
i love how the music suits how hectic it was when you were sorting out the rooted hoyas 🤣
Haha thank you. Thats my brother playing jazz. He is so talented
I think there are so many kinds of Hoya. It is impressive to breed hoya stems directly on moss and cocoa chips. I enjoyed the video.
This was so enjoyable and relaxing. Your voice is soothing and so is your wind chime on your balcony. Makes me yearn to travel there
thank you... I can’t wait to travel too
Sean: I'm not a Hoya expert
Also Sean: Proceeds to drop his hoya collection he has in our faces with experience.
Finding this video was blessing!!! I started my hoya collection over a year ago and I’m just starting to get over the fear of propagating. I learned a lot. Definitely will be replaying this video before I truly start cutting up my hoyas. Thank you so much. New subscriber 🙋🏻♀️ Tysm!!!
Thank youu and welcome to the channel. Hoyas are quite easy to propagate with high success rate. Try with a common hoya first... 🐸💕
In love with this video!! 🥰🥰🥰 So many hoyas ♥️♥️♥️ Propagations and updates in the same video!!! Perfect video 💚💚💚
"I don't smell anything.....that's super random." Bahahaha. this vid was so great, and what a beautiful collection!
You have a big space with so many beautiful plants. You are spending so much time with them, and also do teaching. You should sale them for second job for business.
Thank you 😌 Im already running 3 businesses 🥲
I am cutting the vines as well and they grow so bushy after. I know a lot of people do not do that, but i do😊 love your videos💚
Thank you so much 😌
Omg I absolutely loved this video! And you thought it was long....NO WAY! Subbed, Liked & Saved!
Haha thank youu
I just love your dogs Sean 😍
😀😀
awesome collection
This especially long video served well while I was repotting my plants. It took 1hr and 40min. like your video. Thank you!
I love your enthusiasm! It’s contagious, so much safer than COVID! 🤣
You have Hoya I’ve never seen before, retusa, Eskimo, macrophylla… I want them all!!!
I’ve never laughed so much at any of your videos before! I’d rather watch you than a movie! Keep up the good work!
😀😀
Omg! I want those cuttings! 😆✌️💚 I love hoyas, they're so easy to take care of & love thier blooms! 🥰 My Halconensis & Pubicalyx blooms all year round 🥰💚🥰
the long videos are the best!!
Whoaaa thank you
I love them too! The longer the better! Yay!
Watching this reminded me of those 3 weeks where I went on 3 separate hoya hauls. This video got me the affirmation I needed to go on another hoya haul. Thanks Sean!
Ouuuu yes. 🙌🏻
I just love Hoya obovata and have three of them. One in a 6" container, two in 4". They look like leafy saucers to me.
They are so slow growing for me 🥹
the huge part of the joy in my opinion is to create new plants lol, so jealous of your collection!!!
Yessss creating life and giving them a chance to take off
Hi love all your videos keep them coming, absolutely a wonderful experience and winner!👍
What a collection
That super Eskimo has been in my Hoya spank bank for awhile 😳💕🌿
Spank bank 😂😂
Love seeing your plants.
Wish I had your weather, sunny an warm, perfect propagation situation 💚😃
Hey, I'm so happy to tell you that I propagated my hoya and it had bloom nodes on it... It's getting ready to bloom anyway...I start rooting it in water about a month and a half ago...When I saw the nodes I though it would never bloom again but "Its blooming". I just wanted to share that with you...keep on planting 🤗
Yeahh peduncles can rebloom over and over again even from a cutting 😀
I love the long length of this video!
Thank you for this HOYA Propagation video, you inspire me to be more confident in taking care of my hoyas 🥰💕❤️💕
Hope you can give hoya propagation a try because it will make you addicted!
I love watching your videos! So informative and fun! Thank you for your content

Love your videos and especially the written comments. They are so funny! I have a request though. It’s hard to read the comments so quickly. Is it possible to allow them to remain for another 2 seconds or so?

I just got 3 hoya in the mail, perfect timing!!!!
