I've gone back and listened to all the podcasts, and it's funny, but deep how you guys always talk about speedrunning and the mind in general. You'll give some good life advice and healthy mental tips, like keeping a positive attitude going into things, taking breaks, and when to cut yourself some slack. It's funny how you talk about strategies for speedrunning, but also sounds like general good advice oddly enough.
You guys are always asking for your guests gaming resume, when are you going to ask for a viewers gaming resume? And where I do submit mine?

I would argue against the whole "combat in Origami King is optional" because it most certainly is not. At face value, it could be perceived as such, but when you think about it more the battles are more required than you'd think. With spoiling as little as possible, the replacement for EXP is basically the paint from Colour Splash, but required, due to instead of white spots you can walk on, the stuff you put the paint equivalent in is holes you fall in, some of which are directly in your way in the story. There's no way to buy it either, so killing enemies is the quickest way to get it. Also filling the holes is just more satisfying as a player imo. Makes you feel like you're legit fixing a broken world. The world and combat are pretty intertwined if you think about it.
Short version is, i'd recommend you pick up Origami King, it's the best Paper Mario i've played.

I definitely think the battle system in origami king was the weakest part. I liked it, but they rarely spiced it up and it is v linear. Boss battles are handled really well tho imo. The rest of the game is also great (just read Muz' pastebin and largely disagree with their assessment of the story and characters), but seeing how much weight you (Trey) put on the battle system I can't in good conscience recommend the game to you.
Also re: Vivian. She was originally transgender in Japan and her sisters wld misgender her (causing the confusion), but the localization team just got rid of all that afaik
A bit late but IS and other 2nd party devs aren't actually allowed to use Piantas etc. They're only allowed to use new non-canon characters as well as generic Goombas, Toads, Koopas etc. Miyamoto's garbage approach to games is the reason why Paper Mario and Mario Party has sucked for 15+ years now lmao

also yeah, Vivian is trans in the Japanese version and got bullied for that, in the English version it got changed to being fat or something, don't know a whole lot on it but I think that's the case
To the Vivian thing, in the original version she was trans, but when they translated it to English (and German) she was made cis. Basically everywhere else in the world she's a transwoman.
