Pac-Attack's SECRET Difficulty (and how I beat it)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 тра 2024
- First half of the vid contains vast, esoteric knowledge about Pac-Attack. Second half is my completed attempt of the TOP SECRET "Godhand" difficulty!
SOMETHING I FORGOT TO MENTION: I had a self-imposed rule against pausing the game mid-attempt. Pausing is completely busted, giving you unlimited time to plan out each move.

Just imagine what SlightlyAboveAverageTrey must be capable of
He must be capable of becoming one of the TGM Grand Masters I imagine...
I’m shaking in my boots just thinking about it
IMAGINE WHAT GOODTREY COULD DO
Trey the king of making niche challenges entertaining as hell
Fun fact: The Cosmo Gang bricks and critters were reused for Dig Dug Arrangement. They're seen near the end on the moon, the final area of the game, as normal enemies, whereas the blocks then take shape of the conventional "rocks" for those stages.
No way
I also forgot to mention. The equivalent to "Pac-Man" in that same game also shows up in Dig Dug Arrangement, all across the game, functioning identically to how it does there, knocking off enemies (and careless players too).
I noticed that! I recognized them right away, I never knew they were a reference to another Namco game until this video. I had always wondered why the moon rocks looked like that in Dig Dug Arrangement, and now I know
Really cool, thanks for sharing and explaining, and congrats on your achievement!
As one of the few existing Godhands out there, just wanted to personally comment and congratulate you on becoming Godhand. Just a really impressive run, and always cool to see another Godhand enter the landscape. Pac Attack's moved forward a lot in the past seven years.
Also really good on ya to shout out Nick666. Last December he beat all my Pac Attack world records and even went from Level 0 to 999 on the SNES version, something that previously had never been done before. He and I have both accomplished a lot: in fact we both have pushed the 16 bit version so hard we broke it (apparently the Fairy Wand breaks the entire game after enough time).
Dang, I've really joined an exclusive brotherhood now lol. Glad you enjoyed the run!
First of all, GG to all out there existing god hands who did this or any other pac-attack 900-999 runs, they seem VERY tough
Second of all, on regards on the ending, where it said on doing it with 37 eaten monsters, 7 cleared lines in a row and 7 canceled fairies, has anyone ever done that?
@@hugosimpon3605 If we're going off of what is said in the end credits of the PS1 version, it's to be believed that one of the original seven Godhands achieved that record in Godhand mode on the PS1. Which is why the challenge exists in the first place.
But in terms of an actual recording, the most fairies canceled in a single run was the second Japanese Godhand Wankoshino, who as Trey pointed out canceled a staggering 6 fairies in his run. He also cleared a staggering 8 lines in a row at one point. But he couldn't do the 37 Eaten Monsters in a single combo. Which as the first Japanese Godhand qqvbds8r pointed out, would require an absolutely perfect setup stacked all the way to the top.
I've talked with Nick666 about it and we both agreed that beating that challenge specifically is highly dependent on RNG. I don't think either of us are currently making attempts to beat it. But I've heard that Trey is interested in it. I just don't know about myself personally.
Right now my eyes are just set on beating as many of Nick's high scores as possible. I know I can beat his Hyper Difficulty record. I know I can. It's just a matter of me doing it.
@@hugosimpon3605 I feel like 7 cancels is impossible unless there's some crazy RNG streak u can get where u get enough monsters. 7 Lines is very doable, but 37 monsters in one pac-man is utter insanity (I've never gotten more than 26 I think)
@@toadysp Could a tas were said "37-7-7 GH" is done? then again, idk if by canceling all faries you could be perfect enough for a 7th one, and as for the 37 monsters thing requiring a perfect stack of monsters.
No wonder that nobody has yet been "the champion of godhand"
These little ghosties are super cute. I love the little animations, the yawns, the spins and they sometimes lose their footing and fall over when the bricks underneath them disappear. This game has so much personality!
This was niche and there is not a chance I would ever watch this in my life, I thought.
I watched the whole run. The pro-tips were great and your editing is always on point. Lotta stressful moments in there but your recovery was so stellar every time. This is a very cerebral long-term thinking game and you navigated it amazingly.
Shoutouts to Colin's CO power for getting you here. This ruled.
Pac attack is mad slept on, I also had it due to the pacman collection. Always loved that and the 3d pacman game with Lego blocks
pac maina

I've legit never played this game in my life but the way you narrate and edit videos is so captivating and interesting I can't help but watch the entire thing! Amazing work as always Trey!
5:11 I love the silence after saying
"But I wanna join it..."
You were totally right about watching the gameplay of this being really enthralling. Especially with the music, which was chill but also changed often enough to be interesting. Awesome video!
11:27 original "shiny" king boo thumbnail 😭😭😭
"WHY IS HE BLUE?!?!?! >:("
you said it's no tetris or puyo puyo, but fuck that noise, you still mastered a puzzle game that most wouldn't bother with
also different skillsets anyways
Congratulations Trey! Peak mental/dental/pac-attack mode took time, but you did it. Absolutely legendary.
I actually like Pac-Attack more than tetris. And it’s not just my Pac-bias, since I even prefer the Cosmo gang version.
I respect the grind on a Pac-Man game that barely anyone plays. My game of choice was Pac-Man Championship Edition DX-still the finest non-puzzle Pac-Man game ever created. "Grind" is the appropriate word, because once you reach a point where you have the skills to achieve a high score... the rest is just repetition, restarting the game every 1 minute, maybe 2 minutes if you're lucky. You know it's serious when you make it to 3 minutes without a single mistake. Maybe 25% of Pac-Man CE DX's challenge is in being the guy who comes up with the winning strategies. The other 75% is those 10-hour sessions you spend trying to actually make those strategies work for 5 or 10 straight minutes without ruining it all with a mishap.
holy hell the editing must have taken so long. it's so clean. i love the fonts, transitions and faded backgrounds
I've never seen the double recording the same line and jumping between both takes technique, I like it it made me laugh.
man I remember pac-attack from my childhood playing 2pac as well and I never knew how deep it could go
Longform content from Trey means I'm in for a good day! Love the super specific gaming challenges.
I love the animation of those ghos-monsters. They're just vibing and rotating. Occasionally one will go to sleep if he's on his own. I don't think many people have commented on it but it's a neat touch.
if i didn't know anything about this game i would've thought godhand would be a kaizo romhack with how it's named
i love watching amazing, immaculately edited videos about games ive never even played with challenges i never could have concieved of. congratulations trey!
Always excited for a new trover video!
Trey with a W vid as always
Amazing how you can keep my attention for an entire vid about something I had only heard of a few times before.
Dude the editing on this was off the charts! You've got yourself a new fan right here!
Here's something nice they did in Namco Anthology 2, the original version of Pac-Attack also gained a clockwise turn to make it easier to play. This also ended up in the ports for Namco Museum on 6th Gen consoles, Pac-Man Collection on GBA, and Pac-Man Museum for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, albeit that version is delisted.
I’m really glad I got recommended this video because it’s very in-depth and very interesting. Also, congratulations on getting through it!
Saw you stream some of these attempts, glad you were able to achieve your goal!
And as always, the editing, script-writing and voice over work in the video are splendid.
Thanks for playing, uploading and being awesome.
All the best to you Trey!
High level Pac-Attack gameplay is always a marvel to watch, and it was beyond awesome to see you hit this accomplishment live! Congrats again on hitting this goal, especially so soon after you started (relatively, anyway)!
Goooooood stuffs! Thanks for giving a rundown on Pac-Attack and congrats on completing Godhand difficulty! :D
I wasn’t expecting a video on Pac Attack of all things to be *this* well presented, great video! (Also man the music that plays during godhand? is fantastic)
"again, spin the other way", I love the Tricky references that all 5 people will appreciate :) btw, with the streams, I am impressed that you managed to read twitch chat at all while playing this game, insane stuff
I love this layout of video where you explain something you want to grind for during a video showcasing highlights of your grind.
I didn't really think this would be a genre, but I'm glad it is
This was a really cool video! I loved Pac-Man World 2 when I was a kid and still regard it as one of my favorite games of all time, and I remember spending countless hours in the virtual arcade. I didn’t play too much Pac-Attack (was a big fan of Pac-Mania though) but always remembered the cool music and atmosphere. After watching this it makes me want to give it another shot.
Also the editing and overall flow of the video was really good, it kept me watching and interested throughout. Keep up the great work!
Pac-mania a banger
I'm happy to see with every new speedrunning documentary you upload you seem to appear more comfortable and confident in your voice and just being you on stream. In your early Super Mario Sunshine documentaries you sounded comfortable in your scripted voice but less so in your streaming voice, but in this video the transition from your energy in your scripted stuff and your energy in the stream highlights feels seemless and I'm just glad to see your growth. 🙂
UA-cam randomly gave me this video and legit after I saw the editing and work put into it, I was shocked to see it under 10k views. As a puzzlehead myself I'm hoping the video pops off and more people learn about Pac-Attack.
Aaah good. Your king boo video entered my comfort video library the instant it was posted. This one is also very very good trey! Keep up the good work!
God i love the amount of passion and work you put in the most random accomplishments ever. Always a delight to watch these videos. Keep it up
Your editing is always inspirational. Good video
Long live the Pac-Attack grind
This is actually the first time I'd ever heard of Pac-Attack. But you've inspired me to attempt this, Being a tetris crackhead makes me feel confident to achieve it eventually
Not sure if you will see this, but I just wanted to let you know that I think your videos are amazing. I absolutely could not get enough of the way you broke down. Both styles of speed runs for Mario sunshine and the individual I L levels it was probably my favorite game for me and my older brother growing up on the game cube, so just wanted to let you know I thought those videos were amazing.
well, that's a blast from the past. I remember playing the Genesis version as a kid (though I was never any good at it).
Grats on obtaining the god-hand!
Wow! Congratulations on beating Godhand! I had fun watching you play. I've recently gotten into the game thanks to PAC-MAN Museum on the Switch.
love the content as of late. keep it up
Dude, I keep coming back to this video for specific parts only to then watch the whole video. Your scripting, commentary and editing are too damn entertaining.
Thanks for the cameo Trey! Always and forever a fan.
I keep coming back to your vids they’re so goooood
I'm a simple woman, I see a new AverageTrey video, I hit play
This is quite cool. I have such nostalgia for the game and the pro-tips honesty didn’t surprise me since they are things I already figured out. I should mention that the game has a bizarre loose condition where if a piece cannot spawn within columns 2-5, it’s game over, so there is a more generous room for error.
Fun fact: I'm the one who added the Godhand cheat to the GameFAQs page after discovering the videos of the Anthology version.
SHIIIIIT I can't wait to watch this. Loved the last vid.
Also the beard looks great
I just saw your Mario Sunshine Ghost video in my recommendation and that shit was entertaining and fun... I needed more so I went to your channel and saw this one! I love watching you grind these challenges, please suffer more for our entertainment, I ask for more! But seriously, I just subscribed, keep it up mate!
I was honestly going to pass this up, then I remembered your mini-doc on King Boo where you didn't get world record yet somehow didn't waste my time telling me about it either. I'm not at all disappointed this time, either. Hope you can get out of wage slavery soon, because I would love more content from you, and yes you did inspire me to dust off my GBA and give this game another spin!
I'm glad someone is talking about this amazing game
I knew the pac attack footage in other videos was leading to something
God-Hand already sounds badass. It shows that you're WORTHY!
Shoutout to the editor, exceptional work.
Thanks
you got that dawg in you trey, congratz!
amazing video trey, great watch
love these videos man keep it up.
THE MADLAD, he finally got it! so mad I wasn't there to see it.
Crazy how interesting a video about a game I've never even heard of can be
The Pac is back.
This was the best video to watch before bed. The Pac will now Attack in my sleep! TY! ❤
Very entertaining video! Knew nothing about this game going in but I gotta say the whole "secret mode called GOD HAND that only like 20 people have beaten" thing makes me wanna attempt it myself 😂
Congratulations on the achievement!
Banger video as always
PacAttack
You're on a winning streak with these puzzle games! 👍👍👍 Is SRAM possible for Klax?
9:23 was not expecting an 8 Mile reference but I enjoyed it.
I love watching this guy grind obscure games that I have 0 interest actually playing
Almost 30 years later and this Pac-Man spin off game is still gets talked about for whatever reason.
This game is hypnotic, I'm glad to have watched a lot of this grind and of course the godhand run itself live. Great video as always, Trey
Im so drunk right now and Im playing pac attack and I love you
Ever since I've been introduced to this version of Pac-Attack at 6 years old via World 2, I've been fixated on it and have desired to master the game with some knowledge on its mechanics. At 15 years old I bought a PS2 just to play this version and attempted to reach Godhand on numerous occasions (dunno how to use an emulator for the Japan-exclusive NA2 lmfao) although have never succeeded; a few years later I've checked out this video which was exactly what I needed. Thank you for giving me the much-needed ambition to attempt the road to Godhand and achieve a childhood dream of mine, well if my studies'll allow it then.
I love Tetris and have never been in to any other puzzle game like Puyo but this one is speaking to me
Finally some Pac-Attack acknowledgment
OH MY GOD I LOVE PACMAN COLLECTION FOR THE GAMEBOY ADVANCE IT WAS ALSO ONE OF MY FIRST GAMEBOY GAMES AND I PLAYED IT ALL THE TIME I HAVE IT IN FRONT OF ME IN MY DESK RIGHT NOW
You summoned up the power of the God Hand!
That was some mighty fine gamin'
44:45 ahbeef: "I'm sitting at the xp grinder, I will not be griefed"
hmm, must be going for some nice high tier enchants, kupo.
-Semas Boreal, Human/Moogle Alchemist
God this game is incredibly satisfying to watch.
>hear pizza tower music
>instant subscribe
i love the pacing of your videos
I had the game gear version of this game.
I absolutely sucked at it. Congrats on getting the GodHand.
best editing in the biz
i,m at the edge of my seat
20:25: Well, in the Hanna-Barbera Cartoon, they were called “Ghost Monsters”; so, in a way, this compromise definitely complimented how they were depicted in the original game… they’re monsters made to dress up as bedsheet ghosts.
Emeraldia (Namco arcade game) also doesn't allow for piece rotation in both directions despite the game hardware supporting multiple buttons, someone recently made a patch for that game. Maybe 16-bit Pac-Attack can get a similar treatment some day.
i see that jmook shoutout at number 12 there - very nice ahahah~
Oh my god another pac man collection kid!!!
Not a single reference to the brawler game God Hand (PS2) ? Too bad.
Just kidding, this was exhilarating to follow, showing tips and all, I'm kinda inspired to do the same with my own journey on TGM3.
thank you for putting this game back on my radar!!! I actually own a Japanese Playstation so I might end up seeing about buying an actual copy of Namco Anthology 2...
Lmk if KING is any good
I see that guitar hero controller back there, when are we getting a Guitar Hero Trey video?
I really miss this game.❤️
Holy shit i remember playing this game from PacMan word 2, you just unlocked a old memory
Everybody says this on long videos, but I am about to watch an hour long essay on a videogame I have close to no interest in, when I lack the attention span to watch TV or movies.
Trey is so slept on, his content and stream are GREAT
I remember you messing on pac attack between sunshine attempts back in the day, its cool to see you go all the way with the game
It's Time To Return To Pac Man World 2
In the genesis version there was a button to change what direction pacman was facing, it was like b and c rotated the piece but a flipped pacman. Idk if that helps or exists in the ps1 version, I never had it. I'm also just getting to pacman tips in the video so maybe you mention it later.
Changin pac direction is exclusive to puzzle mode
@@AverageTreyVG ah, good to know. Thank you!
Also excellent run!!
