I usually never like covers of already fantastic songs, but I give No Doubt kudos for their version of this amazing song. Talk Talk was a uniquely fantastic group of talented musicians. Mark Hollis' voice was so different and fantastic. They became one of my most listened to band all these years later...
This is one of the few where the remake is better. This version emphasizes the beat more and fills in the gaps that left the original one feeling thin and sparse. This version gave a great song the production value it deserves.
It's really hard since I loved the original Talk Talk version a lot. But she does this so well and the music is outstanding so I'll give it a dead heat as they are equally great songs that both bring me to tears. They don't make stuff like this hardly anymore.
I agree with you. This is an excellent cover of an amazing song. I almost never choose covers over originals because it feels like a betrayal. But in this circumstance, I have to say I can actually point out a real reason why I like the original better. This version is very stylized, especially in the vocals. It is a very polished version of the original and especially with the keyboards, it definitely adds more dimensions. But the keys lose the dreamy quality they had in the original, and the original vocals were more plaintive and strained. It added a more soulful and genuine quality that is hard to put a finger on it properly describe, but if you get it you get it. Mark Hollis's voice was as effective for what it struggled to do as it was for anything it did easily.

@@KevinStriker Same here. I first heard this song in 2022 playing at more work as the playlist was all 90s and 00s hits. I loved it a lot and downloaded it to my phone. I discovered the original one from Talk Talk too but refrained from downloading immediately… well a year and a half later and many more song downloads later the music at my work started to change as it does every few months and at the time it went from 2010s & 20s hits to the 70s and 80s and thats when I finally could hear Talk Talks version being played 😅

Please spare a thought for the wonderful Mark Hollis who wrote this song and who died yesterday, 25th February 2019. For those who don't know, Mark Hollis was lead singer of the 80's British band "Talk Talk." If you have never heard Talk Talk's version of this track, which was the original by the way, do yourself a favour and check it out.
Even he himself wasn't hugely proud of this song, or the album Do yourself a favour and listen to spirit of Eden and laughing stock That shows his real genius
ShakeITyEA Not even taking your bait and arguing with you. A piece of dog shit is worth more of my time than you lol. What a sad, pathetic life you must have to go onto youtube and try to get people to fight with you. Just because your life sucks doesn't mean you have to drag other people down with you. Grow up.
How is their cover of Talk Talk 20 years old now. Insane. I remember watching the MV at my university’s library because of the high speed internet. Literally one of the best covers ever 🔥✨👌🏼🙌🏼🤯
What's even crazier is that the original "It's My Life" wasn't even quite 20 years old when No Doubt covered it. This would be like some 2020s band covering No Doubt from 2003. Time is crazy.
This covered version more popular n famous than the old one which BS’s ex fans hate it coz her little red wagon not popular and famous n her Kerosene is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist ML! She completely rewrote the melody of someone else’s song and then she was accused of Plagiarism, she had to recognize the author as a co-author!
Something about this song is heavenly. Like everyone around me is getting slower and the world is moving infinitely faster. It's like i'm experiencing my full fate.
I know it's a JoJo reference but I am looking at your Enter the Gungeon profile picture... and a few minutes ago i have been thinking how this song could be the convict's (aka Laser Lily) theme song - the cool female outlaw. She has these Jolyne vibes in my opinion.
Gwen had been with No Doubt for a good while before they hit it big with Tragic Kingdom. Seems she was born with talent, but she's worked hard to earn her status as well.
It's funny how growing up, I would hate when my sister (also named Gwen) played No doubt but now I'm much older and revisiting all of these songs. They're actually so so so good
Damn, Gwen Stefani has been killing it since the 90s. She had such strong femininity and girl power before it was even popular. Props to this badass queen! She was my childhood idol growing up and continues to be to this day.
I almost died unaware that this song was not wrote by No Doubt. This is definetly one of those typical songs in which the cover performs better than the original version, in my humble opinion.
When I hear, this song fits my life so much. IF it's not my daughters trying to run my life then it's my grandchildren. I can really relate to the words in this song. Thank you, No Doubt! What a great band!
You should listen to the original version, No Doubt didn't write it and if anything the original is even more poignant. Search out the 1986 live version at Montreaux . The band were Talk Talk
Richard, thank you again for letting me know about Talk Talk. They are amazing. I could leave on replay that is how good they are. I listened to live version when they are performing in England.
I remember seeing No Doubt at seven years old with my aunt and it’s something I’ll never forget. When this song started my little self couldn’t contain the mere excitement. So many memories with this amazing band.
We definitely were spoilt for good music when no doubt were at their peak. Only really starting to appreciate how good they were really were thanks to how bad everything new is.
I partly agree, but I think the amount of sh*t nowadays is much due to people having easier access to publishing stuff. I remember the time just before YT and music streaming services when even good bands didn't get audiences because you had a music business gatekeeper pretending he know what people will like and so many failed to impress him. Fortunately, that isn't as bad nowadays, although YT and the likes are the new gatekeepers forcing bands and record labels buy ads in order to get their music recommended to the users.

this song always reminds me of a memory when this cd first came out my so called best friends and I were obessed with this song. we wanted to try out for the 7th grade talent show and do a routine dance to this song. my mom bought me the cd and I came up with the great choreography, we practiced at my house every day, my cousin even made us custom made t shirts but we were set! then the day before the talent show they ask me if I could not be in the talent show because I was chubby and they were thinking I would ruin the chances of them winning. I was so upset and hurt because I thought they were my friends but I agreed to just let them do it. they had nerve to ask me if they could still use my cd. I said yes and I would give the cd and track # to the kid in charge of playing the music. I gave him my niece's sesame Street cd and instead of playing it's my life it played elmo's world when they were on stage! they were so embarrassed but i had to get back at them. I found real beat friends after that and now that we are adults they recently added me on facebook, I lost alot of weight and I'm thinner than both of them, one gained over 60 pounds and the other one has been divorced twice with 4 kids from 3 different men and she's not even 30 years old yet! lol. karma!

This is a pretty decent cover, one I actually loved back in the day and im not ashamed to admit it... But there is something fantastically raw and emotional about the original. It makes that one tragically beautiful.
Kinda like this cover more than the original... In terms of rawness this one is way more raw... I know its an opinion.. The only thing i likr from the original is that its equal in turns before the singing starts before verse 1 and verse 2 and in this cover its one full turn and then singing ... Come 2nd verse its like 2 measures of the same note then singing then the bass i cover this one but follow the structure of original...

Same here.
Hi I Recommend A song called 'The bond Villain' By Robert Nix
She's one of best performers out there. The emotion of the song goes accordingly with her face expressions.
Not only that she did a great rendition of talk talk it's my life she kept the original lyrics intact just only up-tempo the beat which was kind of sweet
She's a living legend. ❤❤

Please spare a thought for the wonderful Mark Hollis who wrote this song and who died yesterday, 25th February 2019. For those who don't know, Mark Hollis was lead singer of the 80's British band "Talk Talk."

Tbh, music was already been on the slide by 2003. 80's to early 90's was the pinnacle.

this song always reminds me of a memory when this cd first came out my so called best friends and I were obessed with this song. we wanted to try out for the 7th grade talent show and do a routine dance to this song. my mom bought me the cd and I came up with the great choreography, we practiced at my house every day, my cousin even made us custom made t shirts but we were set! then the day before the talent show they ask me if I could not be in the talent show because I was chubby and they were thinking I would ruin the chances of them winning. I found real beat friends after that and now that we are adults they recently added me on facebook, I lost alot of weight and I'm thinner than both of them, one gained over 60 pounds and the other one has been divorced twice with 4 kids from 3 different men and she's not even 30 years old yet! lol. karma!

That bassline though.. simple, to the point and still hip AF!
This is a pretty decent cover, one I actually loved back in the day and im not ashamed to admit it... But there is something fantastically raw and emotional about the original. It makes that one tragically beautiful.
This guy gets it!
This guy gets it. This version is fine, but the original has a longing that makes this one seem a bit emotionally sterile by comparison.
sergeantbigmac a good cover but pales compared to the original by Talk Talk.
