    Grrrrrr. I just had to have my fuel pump exchanged - I mean check engine light and the car turned off - and it cost me $935. I could have done this myself. This looks easy. I probably would have been too afraid... but this looks like I could do it myself and the assembly only cost $350 online. Great video. Clear and detailed. Love it.

    I just changed my fuel pump in my 2006 Mustang. Even with a full tank of fuel, I’m getting the DTE FLI DATA ERR just as you did on your dash.
    Is there something I did wrong or something that needs to be reset? I did remove the net battery terminal to reset the system but I’m getting a check engine light along with the ERR message and the codes show issues with the sending unit.
    Did I mess something up here?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the great vid. I bought the tool from Tyler and while it may seem expensive for a one time use, it is worth every penny. I ended up replacing both the primary and secondary pumps/senders. I can’t imagine how much effort it would be to re-seat the retaining ring without it. The rings were too tightly seated to use the tool without encouragement of a flat paver chisel at the weld on the base of the handle. This was especially necessary to re-seat the dimple on the ring to the center of the retainer. It may not have been necessary but it made me feel better.

    My god the Ford engineers who designed some of these things. First was the oil filter adapter that had coolant running through it. Leaking gasket? Drain the coolant. Then this cluster. Everything was going "ok" until I had to disconnect the fuel line going to the sender (passenger side) in the tank. IT WAS STUCK. The green button would depress, but the connector WOULD NOT BUDGE. I had to apply leverage with a screen driver and really lean on it for it to budget. Once I got it moving, then I was able to depress the green button and remove it. Turns out the entire plastic nipple was coated with something sticky and it was just not going to let that connector go.
    This is a 15 minute job that poor engineering and questionable assembly turned into an hour.

    Hey, nice video. Any chance you know what that fuel sending unit attached to the side of the pump is called exactly? The hose you removed when taking it out. That siphons gas from the other side of the tank, right? Since its saddle shaped. I replaced the pump in my car but it only uses the drivers side of the gas tank while the passenger side of the gas tank remains unused. I look in the tank itself, the driver side is empty but the passenger side of brimming with gas.

    • @leobenitez8275
      @leobenitez8275 4 роки тому

      I can’t give you a definite answer for sure. That just happened to be the case for my mustang. First the car just would start at all with original fuel pump. Then I went to partsgeeks for a fuel pump because I was tight on cash and it worked for a bit as I put some gas in but even though it worked the gas gauge still read weirdly. It would read halfway full or completely empty, it was because my driver side tank was almost empty so it was trying to read the gas from that side but also trying to read the passenger side which was full so the gauage would transition from halfway full to empty. I then let the car sit for a year feeling defeated. It felt fine driving it with that fuel pump but then I got to work on the car again and for some reason the siphon on that fuel pump to get gas from the passenger side didnt work. My guess would be that partsgeek sells refurbished parts or something since they are so cheap. Regardless of all that, Rockauto is well known so i bought from their and that siphoned has worked just fine. Im no expert though, so good luck with your fix. This is just my experience with the mustang. I also has to replace the battery around the same time if that helps.
