      How did you make sure all the tabs locked in the back part of the locking ring? Can't seem to get them to all to engage at the same time.

    • @MichelleHarris24
      @MichelleHarris24 3 роки тому +6

      @@jims162 A lot of patience! Lol
      First, I positioned the pump at a slight angle to allow all of the tabs to be above the top of the pump. Prior to doing this, I had not positioned the pump correctly in the tank. Thus, the pump was below some tabs in the front, and was above some tabs in the back, which did not allow the locking ring to fit under all of the tabs at once.
      Second, I held (and pushed down) a small stone on top of the pump to stop the pump from moving / popping up. Next, I positioned the locking ring on top of the pump, and made sure it was aligned with each tab.
      Lastly, I focused on one tab and used a flathead screw driver to slide the ring under the tab. I slid the ring about 1/4 of the way under the tab, checked the remaining tabs to make sure the ring was under them, then used the screw driver again to hit the ring clockwise until it locked in place.
      It definitely took some time, and there was a learning curve since this was my first time doing the install. But the install isn't too bad once you've learned about the nuances involved. I hope my explanation made sense. Also, I apologize for the late response! I didn't see the email notification about your question until now. I hope you are having a great week! :)

    the most replayed spot is at 3:22 because everyone (as well as I in this exact moment who had to go to youtube to see how someone did it) could not get that giant sucker into that little tight awkward wet hole followed by the float all while holding that fuel line. you must get the float in first at angle then put the rest in ,, thank you great video. cleared that right up. oh yeah its spring loaded, so you have to push it down to get that giant lock nut back on. (which feels like you might break it, but you wont)

    Thank you for this video. I was judt told by someone who listened to the pump through the open fuel cap that it was bad, so thus will be my first replacement in trying to get the car repaired. The car isn't in terrible condition but so many parts on it need to be replaced that it's not able to run.

    Interestingly enough you can’t create a spark from hitting the plastic handle of a screwdriver with any kind of hammer but great video man very informative and good views of what you’re doing 👌👌👍

    • @MentalMan38
      @MentalMan38 3 роки тому +3

      Which is why he was referring to the sparking coming from the metal on metal contact of the flathead screwdriver on the locking bracket. If you hit too hard on that locking bracket and the screwdriver skips the surface of that metal, it could very well create a spark.

    • @raulmartinez3484
      @raulmartinez3484 Рік тому

      The rubber hammer is meant to minimize it from occurring. To be completely safe, it’s best to use a brass punch to do this because the brass punch won’t create any sparks.

    I have an 08 gt mustang. Replaced the fuel pump due to delayed fuel pickup and delayed gauge readings. No check engine light on during any of my issues before or after. Runs out of gas before i'm actually out of gas. Saddle side is full and no pickup is happening from passenger side to the pump. Checked the pickup tube from passenger to driver side and it is not clogged, I ran air through the pipe and air is going through just fine. At first, car would read 0 miles left and die at half a tank, now it's running out at 3/4 full on the gauge where i'm only going through roughly 5 ish gallons or so. It's taken apart right now but I don't know if the sending unit on the passenger side has anything to do with fuel pickup from the saddle side, meaning I don't know if when the sending unit on the passenger side is bad, it cuts off fuel pickup from the passenger side. It seems the pump has a t split on the top to pull fuel from the passenger side, and the drivers side picks up from the bottom on the driver side. Any idea what it could be? No places around me have the sending unit for the saddle side in stock so i'm trying to figure it out without buying anything. And the notch was lined up perfectly and the pickup tube was attached properly after swapping in the new pump.
