This is great! There’s been a lot of times I’m working on my desktop for classes and want to watch a video alongside it or open a text book and this allows me to use my monitor for writing and my iPad as a back up for whatever secondary thing I need open. I appreciate the walkthrough! The no pen support without a subscription is a bummer, but I probably wouldn’t use the feature much anyways

I used to get on a computer about 20 years ago and then I pretty much just used a cell phone but it was a critical process died issue. Took me 3 or 4 days but I got that bastard to boot back up using a flash drive. Now I’m trying to flash my bios with MFlash and idk what I’m doing wrong cause it shows the usb flash drive but says file doesn’t exist. I guess it’s fine the way it is tho. Just that old black n white version…

Can you use USB C to USB or does it have to be USB C to USB C when connecting IPad to PC? The slot on my laptop that has the USB C is for my laptop charger so if I utilize that slot for the connection between IPad and PC then my PC will not charge?

I have a surface pro 7 for work. I am going to be traveling and don’t want to lug an external monitor and I have the 2021 M1 iPad Pro. Is it possible to connnect the surface pro 7 with windows 10 enterprise, to the iPad Pro as an external monitor?
Just some friendly advice. The information you share is good, however the video could of provided everything everyone here wanted to see, in about 5 minutes. I do the same thing, and talk way to much when trying to make videos. I recommend a script. The video and sound quality is great though :)
And there should be a rule for hand movements. It’s prob just me.. but people who demonstrate on youtube should not talk with their hands unless you’re an illusionist 🕴🏽🪄
That is what is known, how do we do the opposite? I mean I wanna extend display of ipad to a windows.. Ipad by default does not allow extending display! Or at least a seemless keyboard and mouse movement from ipad to windows would have been a plus.
Thank you I just purchased a Macbook air and need a second screen. I can't use sidecar as my tablet is a samsung. Will try duet. Seems like it will work and save buying a portable monitor!

I used my MacBook pro 2015 with my ipad air 2nd gen. I cannot see the arrangement tab in system preferences and I cannot drag the content from my MacBook to my ipad. It is just like screen mirroring and not like a side bar. I do not know what to do. Thanks

Buy a windows display adapter. My main issue as a teacher with the current touchscreen is I highly doubt the iPad will differentiate between a stylus and the hand when acting as a second monitor. This means that when writing, your hand must never lay on the screen. A surface on the other hand can connect to a second monitor, create the second monitor as the primary monitor, but still as a touchscreen differentiate between pen and hand. I'm currently in search of a better option than a 8gb i5 SP7. My choices are either upgrade to the latest SP8 with the better hardware (i7, 16gb) or to find a proper secondary touchscreen that can utilize all touch screen features rather than touch=mouse.
I bought the app before watching this video (which is great by the way). I say it works perfectly for me. Agree on the lag, but it is ok when reducing the resolution (I use it on my big iPad Pro). One thing though, I CAN use the Pencil :) I use it in the Whiteboard app in Teams when connected to my Windows laptop.

Does the iPad get charged whilst you’re using Duet Display? If it does NOT charge the iPad - that’s a massive flaw and renders this app completely useless as your iPad will end up running out of power…

Hmm...I can see my PC wallpaperand the taskbar on my ipad, but thats it...also I cannot drag windows from the pc to the ipad....AND I lose all mouse control on my pc when DUET is on....?

There never was a free version. The app was $10 you just didn't need a subscription if you were happy to use a wire and don't need Apple pencil support.
I hate how i can only use my ipad for creation and productivity by spending another 100$ on apps when i already got the ipad and pen for a lot of money.. i hope there's a free solution to display my laptops screen on ipad to use the pen for Ps and Ai
i want to get me a ipad pro 2021.. sometimes i want to use it as a drawing tablet... i saw a few apps duet pro seems like the bst solution.. but i think if used wireless its lagging... also with cable its kind of lagging... anybody tested it iwth a new ipad 2021 usb c cable???? i could imagine usb c could run smother...
It was a third party app but I don't recommend it anymore due to security risks. Try reducing third party apps running in the background all the time. With the advent of nasty malware and more companies getting infected, it would be prudent to reduce third party apps (except maybe the big ones like Adobe). If you're going to use a third party app that you haven't heard of before, try using it signed out or without connecting to the internet- again for security reasons. This is why I don't recommend the wireless version of Duet Air. You have to sign in to their server, and even if they're 100 percent legit, if their servers get compromised with malware, so would your data. Of course, this is drastic and there may be exceptions, but this is my opinion.
@@WYSbyAdamLash it works brooo thanks ipad air 4 hooked up to my microsoft surface! my only gripe is that my surface pro 7's fan are on full blast just for doing this. any tips? also, the battery icon on my sp7 has a yellow hazard sign that says "slow charge." it makes sense cuz the sp7 is a tablet-laptop hybrid. dare not i unplug the surface pro 7 and watch the battery levels go in free fall (i'm using the included sp7 charger which has a high wattage rating so i thought it would handle thus better).
@@DerangedIntellectual9 Congrats! Regarding the loud fans, try setting battery power on your Surface Pro 7 to "low" instead of "performance". Try it and let me know if it works!

If you use it wired, do you use up your ipad battery or is it charging? Also, if you use Duet with Zoom, do you use fewer resources on your PC? I ask because when I screenshare, I usually freeze the PC and am going to have to buy a new PC unless this would do the job for me. Thanks for the video.

Duet's regular price is a one-time cost purchase of $19.99 USD. You may find discounted rates sometimes. I haven't tried free alternatives. Good luck 👍🏻
i heard that duet broke a lot of peoples windows when using their ipad on pc and that you can't even uninstall the program from pc anymore without risking breaking windows. Is that really true?
Couldn’t you just buy a cheaper (price) monitor? For about $300-$400 and then extend your monitor? That way you have 2 monitors and avoid the $1000 price tag for a iPad Pro? Or any iPad. The screens for the iPads are like 10-12 inches.
I’m sorry but I bought it and it worked like crap. Paid for one year of subscription (yes, otherwise no wireless privilegies) and it was incredibly laggy and unusable as a second monitor. Tested with 1Gn internet speed using a 5G wifi and an msi GL series which costs 1600€. Hope it helps somebody not to purchase this thing and waste money as I did.

i want to get me a ipad pro 2021.. sometimes i want to use it as a drawing tablet... i saw a few apps duet pro seems like the bst solution.. but i think if used wireless its lagging... also with cable its kind of lagging... anybody tested it iwth a new ipad 2021 usb c cable???? i could imagine usb c could run smother...

It was a third party app but I don't recommend it anymore due to security risks. Try reducing third party apps running in the background all the time. With the advent of nasty malware and more companies getting infected, it would be prudent to reduce third party apps (except maybe the big ones like Adobe). If you're going to use a third party app that you haven't heard of before, try using it signed out or without connecting to the internet- again for security reasons. This is why I don't recommend the wireless version of Duet Air. You have to sign in to their server, and even if they're 100 percent legit, if their servers get compromised with malware, so would your data. Of course, this is drastic and there may be exceptions, but this is my opinion.

Does this work if you’re using a USB hub? I already have splashtop wired display XD and that will not work with a USB hub or a powered USB hub
I am not sure because I no longer use USB hubs.

Good question. Yes, you can connect Android tablets as well. Duet Display supports both iOS and Android devices as well as Macs and Windows machines.

@@WYSbyAdamLash it works brooo thanks ipad air 4 hooked up to my microsoft surface! my only gripe is that my surface pro 7's fan are on full blast just for doing this. any tips? also, the battery icon on my sp7 has a yellow hazard sign that says "slow charge." it makes sense cuz the sp7 is a tablet-laptop hybrid. dare not i unplug the surface pro 7 and watch the battery levels go in free fall (i'm using the included sp7 charger which has a high wattage rating so i thought it would handle thus better).
@@DerangedIntellectual9 Congrats! Regarding the loud fans, try setting battery power on your Surface Pro 7 to "low" instead of "performance". Try it and let me know if it works!

Duet requires a 30-pin, lightning or USB-C cable (make sure it's Apple-certified - same one you'd use to charge your iDevice).
If you use it wired, do you use up your ipad battery or is it charging? Also, if you use Duet with Zoom, do you use fewer resources on your PC? I ask because when I screenshare, I usually freeze the PC and am going to have to buy a new PC unless this would do the job for me. Thanks for the video.

Couldn’t you just buy a cheaper (price) monitor? For about $300-$400 and then extend your monitor? That way you have 2 monitors and avoid the $1000 price tag for a iPad Pro? Or any iPad. The screens for the iPads are like 10-12 inches.

I’m sorry but I bought it and it worked like crap. Paid for one year of subscription (yes, otherwise no wireless privilegies) and it was incredibly laggy and unusable as a second monitor. Tested with 1Gn internet speed using a 5G wifi and an msi GL series which costs 1600€. Hope it helps somebody not to purchase this thing and waste money as I did.
