Thanks for showing how to get the cattle panel home. We’re new to farmstead life so could use all the tips we can get. lol :)
In her mind she is in the right place... the grass is "greener", taller and juicier, on the other side of the fence... smart girl! If I were a horse I would fly over that 5 foot fence all the time... LOL.
When we get those pannels, we arcxh them in the back of the truck as you did over the psts - the height is managable, they are limited by the ends of the PU box, and ratchet strap then ro both ends of the box.
Works like a charm - and we have to go thru customs with them. WE get some looks, but no problems. Done this twice now.
Lol Maggie is a fun one, I like her ! Blake I like how your brain works, that arbor turned out great! Can't wait to see the grapes growing 😊
Well done! What a productive day, you had. The arbor looks great! Thank you for sharing with us.
We are still sending positive ju-ju across the pond for Luke's recovery.
Love that grape arbor! What a wonderful blessing it is to me, seeing the younger generation caring about these things. Thank U Blake.
you have no idea how much I appreciate you for sharing this. I had NO idea how to get them home. I finally was able to get my money together. Thank you so very much, I am on my way to buy some. Josie from Dallas, Texas
I'm so glad it helped.
I used to have a horse that would check the pulsing of the electric fence and when the pulse was in a pause she would push thru/over the fence and go where she wanted to go. I actually watched her do this one day. She would lower her head as if listening to the pulsing of the current. Horses can be so smart.
Now you need a hammock in arbor !
Hello, It is a good time to buy a low cost game/trail camera.. Great to have one on the homestead/farm. Fantastic trellis.. THANK YOU for sharing..
thanks for showing the loading ! I just ordered my grape seeds I can't wait to start them
If you subscribe to this man, do you wonder where he gets his energy? REMEMBER HE ALSO HAS A FULL TIME JOB AND FAMILY! Tell me your secrets!!
Ha! I love your mare! She'd fit in well with my crew (both the naughty behaviour and the "catch me if you can" routine!) She could be hopping over but most likely doing the limbo under it (amazing how flexible and bendy a determined horse can be!) I love the grape trellis....another add to the "when I have my own farm"' list
It's always nice to see what new projects you're doing..that 🏇 is very smart haha..hope Luke is feeling better today..happy Sunday..👏👏🌞🌴
Maggie is cute, and you are a patient man God bless you. The duck quacks are amusing.Love this video.
Loved this video. I laughed at the cattle panel, truck, and tree part.
You're the only other guy on UA-cam to build with mesh instead of strands, and to make it tunnel shaped. I did one on my channel that is a little bigger, and more costly. I love being inside a tunnel of green.
Great Job, everything is falling into place so nicely, slow and easy, jobs all well done. Thanks for the GREAT SHARE!!!!
Thank you :)
I love the arbor and I love your sense of humor. You made me smile.
Go ahead and tell God thank you. Beautiful garden. I'm putting in a cattle panel trellis this spring.
that archway would make for a nice path from one section of garden to another :) a tunnel even thanks for sharing
I was thinking the same thing! Trying to figure out how to get it to fit in my wagon. :D
The horse scene made me laugh. The ghost horse. lol. Love your video.
Great idea, I put the 2 end hole of Cattle Panels into the post, so easy to handle it !
I love the new grape arbor, Blake.
Just got 4 cattle panels - one is for my 3 cold hardy kiwis that I plant today. It was a bit
of a challenge erecting it by myself, but I got the job done. Too bad I hadn't watched your
video yesterday as I used two T-bars per side. But I'm sure not changing it. My ground here is an ancient river bed and talk about rocky. Oh well! You get what you pay for, I guess.
I like your straight-forward presentations; very good demos. Thank you. I live in British Columbia, Canada in planting zone 5b.
I think there is nothing else quite as useful and versatile as cattle panels! And they even keep livestock in! LOL I need more here. I used mine up just fencing in the piggies, and now I want to expand their paddock! :::sigh::: I can always find "just one more thing" to make this place perfect. tfs
omg the horse part is funny! Great idea for the support. I have been struggling with which system to use. This will be it!
😇 That's a Great Grape Arbor 😇
Thank You
People Everywhere plant fruit trees, nut trees, and grapes in your cities, and city parks. Dedicate them as community trees. Edible city-scape is the new way, Seattle Boston Asheville and so many others have proven it works.
Europe has been doing this for hundreds if not thousands of years.
Thank you for a great video. LOVE your simple trellis. Will use your ideas for my passion fruits (purple, orange and yellow) as well as for my flowers (stephanotis vine, Chinese violet aka pakalana, and squash)
That's going to beautiful :)
Very good job. Nice trellis. I look forward to see grapes trailing over it.
Grape arbor is going to look amazing once the vines are climbing all over it. tfs
So grateful you made this video! Wanting to use cattle panels for vertical growing this next year 😊🌿
just got my grape vines in this week. your arbor will be sooo pretty when it fills up! :)
Blake, I put some of these up last weekend and posted a video. I had to combine the thinking of you and Jared over at J&J Acres. I ended up having to span a wider distance so I used two panels per arbor and used hog rings to connect them to form the arch. Thanks for sharing your experience, it certainly made my build easier.
Looks great, Blake. I fear I would be too tall to do a trellis like that. I am going to go with a wooden structure. I will post up a video when I finally get it built. Can't wait for the walk through harvesting dream!
I'm blessed with a very average (or below average) stature. The hoops will be perfect for me. Maybe you could do it with some type of a frame on the bottom to raise it up some.
New Sub here... recommended by one of my favs over at Alderman Farms... I love Maggie, she is too funny
Tommy is good people ;) Thanks for joining me here. Maggie is great... a brat sometimes, but great!
I've been trying to figure out how to get the panels home with my 6' bed! Great info!
Thank you for this video... I want to do 4 of these!
Really liked your archway. I use cattle panels for archways too. I have an archway that has honeysuckle and grapes (two panels for that archway). I have another area for my grapes that are not supported. I'm thinking I really need to work on that area but the raspberries moved in with the grapes. Always work to do living on a farm! But I agree, it feels good at the end of the day after working hard and reaching goals.
I liked your tips for loading into the truck. It really can be dangerous unloading the panels.
I was very interested in this since I plan on making a similar arbor myself . Thanks for sharing
This is the best trellis that I have seen and like, which I will be using in my garden thanks.
Another great video, Blake! Love DADDYKIRBS channel! I'm planning on putting a one-panel arch on the ends of my beds, bending over the paths between beds in my garden, allowing me to grow vining plants overhead as I walk through, freeing up more growing space. I'm not doing so well with my grapes here in Maryland. Guess I'd better read up some more to see why they are not growing well (3 years old). I also need to get my soil tested. Thanks for all you do on UA-cam for us!
ah shucks it's nuttin. :) I hope all goes well with your grapes!
This arbor easier than digging post holes !
Thank you...easy on the ears...love your ghost horse.
Love this idea gonna use this over my steps to come into my house
Just subscribed. Thanks for showing the loading of the panels. I have a Nissan Frontier, small truck. I don't know if it would work or not but I sure need to get some of these panels home. I don't know anyone with a bigger pickup nor a trailer. I hope the people at Tractor Supply will help me load them. When I called them to ask if anyone knew how to load cattle panels the person said, "I dunno but we can rent you a trailer."
Good morning from Auckland, New Zealand it’s Sunday, November 17, 2019
Loving it brother
I know this is an old video, but I’m hoping you’ll see this. How many grape plants did you end up planting on this? Has it worked out well? We bought a few grape plants and are trying to figure out what to do with them!
He answered 👇 another subscriber asked but it was 1 plant for each side of the panel so total of 8. Four on each side
Such a pleasure to watch you!
this is easy, strong and beautiful.
Great job! Wonderful idea.
never ever use bungies. I lost a lot of material out the back of my truck using them, ratchet straps all the way. love the video man!!!
It looks like ge used the bungies temporarily and then when he got them all in he tied them down somehow
Looks fantastic brother nice job great video
What a brilliant idea, thanks for sharing.
Great Video. That's how I'm building mine!!
Brilliant idea thank you so much I am definitely going to be busy this weekend doing this
Thank you for your video! I have rasberries, grapes and blackberries that I need to get under control before it’s too late... AGAIN!
lol. I had my panels layed over my kia spectra like a madmax vehicle 😅
I had lots of looks on my way home.
Thanks for the video. I'm definitely going to do this in a couple spots in my garden.
Love your farm 😊
Cover the hoops with bird wire, and at the back of the frame, add a wire door, and you have your bird proofing
You can do it if I can...I bought 5 panels loaded'em my myself...I'm 4'9 maybe 90#...lol mine were tied down with bunches in the front pockets of the truck, pulling them was difficult, but doable.. tied with bunches & red flags on the small part that stuck out...sorry by myself but it work going home 52 miles.. ya do what you have to...lol love your treles tho.. so I'll try your way next week when I go & get 5 more.. fencing my yard off... Enjoy your day!
Great arbor, Blake! And it IS lots easier with 2 people.
also might be easier if the 2 post was put in after you raise it up and bent it over and just stake it temporarily while you drive the 2nd post in the ground. Nice trellis though. I think I'll do my new grape vines like that too.
i love msggie, yall are funny, lol is good medicine, thks for info, can,t wait to get started.
we built this. Thanks for sharing
Doing this next week - thanks for the great tutorial, especially the part about loading the panels.
So...I was talking to my partner (10:50pm) about needing to build a trellis for an old grapevine that I saved (from my new home, he pulled about three of them out). I wanted to buy one but he recommended we do this instead...described it using the same tools and panels you used. I was like, uhh no (thinking that it would look ugly).
But I searched online for a homemade one and your video popped up. Great video and I love the look! Now, my grapevine, which I trimmed in winter has new growth and its going crazy!
Maybe I'll post a video and you can also give your input?! I'm open to my partner's idea because you helped me see it built. Thank you!
Haha... had the same problem this winter. I don't use electric wire... my horses are in jail behind no-climb horse wire, but their paddock flooded this winter and I let them wander the rest of my property. My poor apple trees.... I think I'll take my horse trailer to Tractor Supply to pick up cattle panels! I have a shell and bed rug on my short bed pickup.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching :)
Great looking Grape Arbor Trellis Blake! I'm a little jealous, not gonna lie... 👍🏻😉
Beautiful
looking good! I might have to do that for cucumbers
What did you use to connect the arch to the posts?
Thanks for the video:) I have 4 cattle panels and want t do that for my grapes. You made it seem so easy by laying one down and measuring according to that. Just curious how many vines did you plant on that amount of trellis? I'd love to see how it looks covered w/ vines. So cool! Keep planting:)
I don't know for sure what the recommended planting density is, but I chose to put one plant on each side of each panel.... so for you that would be 8 plants, 4 on each side.
This is awesome!! Thank you for sharing. I've seen videos on these but they never show how to put them in the ground with the T posts. Also thank you for showing how to put these into a truck. I have got to do this since I love to grow vines like gourds and cucumbers. They'd look great hanging down inside.
There is a safer way to load them into the truck. While the panel is standing on it's side pull both ends together. The panel will be in a teardrop shape. With the help of another person load the round end into the truck bed. Let the panel open up. Repeat as many times as needed for additional panels.
Ah that's even better. Thank you. I can't wait to try this.
Nice work, looks good. I could not keep up with the grapes, the birds ate them all. The TX mockingbird is hard to keep away from them. Place your cats near the vines. Also, make sure you have pierce disease resistant vines and grapes. I learned that the hard way.
Thanks for the tips Jeff!
Blake Kirby you can also prematurely hang little purple/green ornament balls on the vines as they grow before they start to fruit bird will peck at those first then decide it's not worth it :)
That's an insane psych out! Is it really that simple - worth trying and experience would tell - but I always picture birds being smarter than that. I mean, we could tell the difference, right?
"Place your cats" anywhere as long as you make them think they had the idea first!
There are a few factors in how to grow grape vines in pots. One resource I discovered that successfully combines these is the Grape grower folio (check it out on google) definately the no.1 guide that I've seen. look at all the incredible info.
you are a worker man , nice job !
A great video! enjoy the talk very much!
I like it
We all learn from our errors, pop the fence on and problem over. Great job on the trellis. Is Luke better?
Loved your video
This is awesome info. I thank you!!🥒🥕🌽🍇
Great video !!
Alderman Farms recommended I check out your channel--after I watched his on the grape arbor! Subbed.
That Tommy, he's a good guy :) Thanks for coming over to visit me here!
Love it. "She seems to be going through the wire without touching the wire like she's a ghost horse or something." So wish we lived closer so we could give each other a hand with projects. Because Leanna is allergic to the sun with all the medications she is using, I do all the outside projects alone.
Blake, I love what you did making this arbor. I'm not sure if there are grapes that grow in zone 4, but I can think of other projects that I could do the same thing with.
How is Luke doing. I was on your live screen for just a few mins, before I had to go to a meeting, but had heard you mention that he wasn't feeling well. He and your family I will be praying for.
What was the music bed that you used at 4:50? I really liked it.
Blessings.
Luke is hanging in there ok. We are keeping up with the liquids and meds to make sure he doesn't slide into pneumonia again. Thank you for thinking of him. The music is Secret Conversations by The 126ers (UA-cam Library)
Keeping him my prayers, Blake and thank you for the update. Yes, I found the music bed for that. I watched many gardening, homesteading videos yesterday and many had that tune in them.
Blessings.
Nice job 👍
so easy comparatively yet effective. I will do the same for mine. thanks
This looks like a great way to start the trellis, but ( there always is one with a question) will the panels keep the full weight of the grapes once full? Would rebar ribs be needed before full coverage, and how do you bend so all are equal?
Your horse is jumping over the fence! We had horses that we couldn't keep in when the field corn was ripe because they jumped our 8 foot fence everyday. lol
GOOD VIDIO, ALSO IT REMINDS ME OF SANFORD AND SON LOL
Thanks!
That was quick Matthew :) Good morning.
have a great day
Just loved this video,,,,,
Nice love it
Great idea thanks I have grapes too
Great idea. One question. How did you orient the tunnel with respect to the sun direction? did you plant only on one side of the tunnel?
She is smarter than they average horse!!!lol
Easier perhaps to install the panels sideways so the sides of the truck bed hold them in place. Takes one person to load / unload.
Im wondering if this will be strong enough in the long term. How many vines are you supporting with this?
It looks Awesome:')
That looks great and will be beautiful with the vines growing over it. What type of grapes will you be growing?
They were all purchased on clearance at the end of the season last year. I'll have to find the tags to remember what they are :)
