    were overthinking. its just easier to waterproof it that way. i wish though that they'd created an option for removable lens protector

    The cover is not removable to improve waterproofing.

    I've had the 1st gen DJI Osmo Action which had a removable lens cover and probably a weaker glass since it was released about 3-4-5 years ago. I haven't been dropping it on rocks or even using it 24/7 but I chucked it into my back, went into bushes, never scratched it.
    Hopefully the Insta360 won't get scratched easily. It's heavier so dropping it on concrete is not a good idea anyway. Taking it apart and claiming it is removable is even a worse idea. I think people overworry this.

      I dropped mine about 7' on concrete two weeks ago. It wasn't on and I didn't have another camera on to catch what happened.
      I looked it over really close and couldn't find where exactly it hit.
      It's working just fine so far.

    It’s only glued in place with two small dots of epoxy. It can be removed with a tool or if you pry it counterclockwise with your hand. Who knows what insta360 was thinking. Just about every other action camera today has a removable lens cover. The Ace Pro has a bayonet mount with an O-ring. The glue in no way makes it more waterproof. It was a very poor marketing decision. Who knows, maybe the former marketing director for Bud Light got hired by insta360…

      LOL I think she's still officially at Bud Light on leave. They might have duct taped her mouth.
      I haven't had a need to remove mine but I figure I could do it by hand. I also have a 20" crescent wrench if needed.

    I read somewhere they fix the lens cover because when you open or replace it this must be done in a very dry environment. If you do this in a normal relative humid environment the lens and lens cover will fog up by temperature changes. Seems logical, but I think also the waterproofing will become worse when the cover has been removed a few times.

    • @onlymyopiniontech
      @onlymyopiniontech  6 місяців тому +1

      That could be but that would apply to every other action camera also. If that was their biggest concern they could have built the camera with a truly non removable lens like the GoPro hero 8. 🤷‍♂️ At any rate it is removable and replaceable. They didn't try too hard to keep the end user out.

      Removing the lens cover multiple times shouldn’t affect the waterproofing. It’s no different than the Action 4 or GoPro 12. They all have a rubber O-ring.

      @@bruceskousen5451 Yep! I think people trying to fine tune the focus was more of a problem.
      I wouldn't worry about taking it off. For what it's worth, I've never removed the lens cover on any of my GoPros.

    My theory is that this has to do more with Leica than anything. People associate the brand with quality and rightly so. I think anything that might somehow jeopardize the brand even by association is the main issue. So I think adjustments were made in the final hour to ensure that the product as sold gets the quality that was intended and agreed upon by both Leica and 360.

    I’ve only ever used the GoPros. Do these take better video Dave. I can remove the lens easily on the GoPro without the need for the tool even though this is removable as such. Nice opinion mate. Still here.

    • @onlymyopiniontech
      @onlymyopiniontech  7 місяців тому +1

      The tool is only needed to break the glue the first time you take the lens cover off. The Ace Pro does a great job in lower light. If you always video on a sunny day it won't matter much. It does have a flip up screen so that's pretty handy.
      There are a bunch of reviews on this camera. I'll be using this a lot this spring since I like to fish early and late. I really like this one so far.

      The tool would only need to be used the first time. Yes, it takes exceptional video, far superior to the GoPro 12.

    I have seen videos of people riding over it with a car or droping it on a concrete during moto ride and yet no scratch or cracks on lenses, so I would say people over YT are doing drama over nothing. Maybe if you are professional doing some crazy shit it could bother you, but for 95% of us its a non isssue. How long you are going to use the same camera? 50 years? Cmon, compare cameras from 2023 to cameras from 2016 and then to cameras from 2010. There is such a huge technological jump that there is no point of using camera longer than 3-5 years.

    • @onlymyopiniontech
      @onlymyopiniontech  7 місяців тому

      I agree. I still use my GoPro hero 5 but mostly for Timelapse and multi-camera stuff. I don't normally buy a first run on things BUT given the flip up screen was on the go-3 without problems and insta360 has been good about firmware updates on all their cameras so far I wasn't too worried about the Ace Pro.
      As I get more time I plan to do more fishing and a lot of that is at sunrise and sunset. I figured the larger sensor would help.
      I bought a DJI pocket 3 also but I won't be able to use it with a lot of my weather conditions.
