    Fletcher had a wonderful, dry sense of humor! He appears to be a fun guy to be around. The more interviews I see with him, the more I like him. An amusing fellow!
    So now, I’m really sad that he’s passed away.
    RIP Andy Fletcher

    23:52 Fletch talks about the DM fan-base and how it truly is diversified: boys, girls, gays. Thank you for saying this, Fletch. In high school, I was a "weirdo" and known as THAT big DM fan-girl. The 80s was less tolerant but indeed, DM was our safe haven. The last concert I attended was the Delta Machine tour, and I am not sure where Mart and Dave will go from here but I consider myself a life-long fan, regardless. Rest in peace, Fletch. You will be remembered well.

    Daniel Miller is a real pioneer, brilliant innovator, and visionary. He is so intelligent and I have so much respect for him because he seems like an hones, decent, fair gentleman and without his style of management, production, and way of handling his label, bands like Depeche Mode and Erasure wouldn't have been able to create and make the music
    they did.

    Dan Miller is a fucking star and Fletch was a super bloke. What a damn shame we won't see him again. Taken, far too soon.

    I will always love Fletch, the same way as I will always love any of the other members of Depeche Mode, past and present. I'm sure there is a lot more to Fletch than people realize.

      Whatever people say I love Fletch without him Depeche Mode wouldn't be anymore. Hes not setting out to be the sexy on Mart and Dave do all that. Hes very unassuming too

      @Hillari Matthews I have this feeling, since a very long time, Fletch carries, somehow, the band Depeche Mode...we cannot tell exc, but I'm guessing, he forms this basic element in this 'larger than life' band.

    Why this dislike of Fletch? In the past, when Depeche were going through difficult times, it's known that he helped hold the band together. So maybe we should be grateful for that alone. Who knows, without him they may have split up. And he does have an input - maybe not as obviously as Gore and Gahan perhaps, but again I've heard so. I actually know someone who is a tour manager in the music business who knows them all, and she says Fletch is a very down to earth character - a very nice, genuine person apparently. I get a good feeling about him here, he seems like a sweet guy.

      SeeThis608 he created DM with Martin and Vince, Dave came after and Allan was just hired for lives at first, Allan would never have this career without Martin and fletch....sure he was by far the best musician, but he never had the genius of Martin in composing hits....

    Oh! I just stumbled across this in 2021. Glad to hear these two gents and they've got to say. I was that weird kid in 1984. Too intellectual and effete for punk. I wanted something knew and different and mysterious. When DM finally got light rotation on MTV, I knew what I had to do. I went to the mall and bought DM records. The rest is history!

    I did have the chance to talk to Anton Corbijn back in 2002. At a friend´s appartment we had dinner and talked, only about 6 people. I asked Anton, "what is Fletch´s role in the band?". And he said, "he is Martin´s best friend". It´s as simple as that.

    • @video2000_TV

      George Michael wouldn't have started without Andrew Ridgeley either, it's quite an important role in my opinion. most of the time the gifted ones are too shy or self-aware while the "regular guys" are extroverted like Fletch was. any musicians could be exchanged, but you cannot exchange the support of your best mate

    Well, the band didn't ever abuse us fans themselves but we were handed a really tyrannical forum and webmaster for their official site. The band will probably never be aware of it but because this guy had a huge ego and was power mad, he made the forum incredibly off-putting and backwards with setups that were entirely designed to satisfy his own paranoia of people dissenting against the jerky way he treated fans new and old.
    Thank god for Facebook and its unofficial groups that provided a home for fans that wanted to celebrate the band without the English test environment of the DMMB with its uneditable posts or people getting banned left right an centre if the naturally argumentitive admin had the slightest disagreement with someone.
    I don't think there was really a huge knock-on effect, the tours at the time were still massive but I can't help but wonder how many young fans were turned off by that experience given they would have most likely been growing up using the internet and communicating in forums, especially in the early 20's before social networks got really big.

    I think we all agree how useless Fletch was, but in so many ways he was the glue that held the band together. God, unfortunately, didn't bless him with any musical ability, but you can bet he is having the time of his life in heaven, he will be sadly missed.

    • @jorgepatinomedina
      @jorgepatinomedina 6 місяців тому +1

      Strangely, you can see that before 196 (check the old videos) he played much more. I don't know why his musical role dimished so much over time. One would think that with more experience and better equipment he would be able to have a larger Role. Why didn't that happen?

    • @alejandromorales8715
      @alejandromorales8715 8 років тому +3

      +jeshkam Believe me that I've given him quite a few chances. Each to his own. And you are maybe right about Mart and Fletch's relationship, but I find that a bit sad, and I'll never understand how that qualifies anbody to be in a music band. You know, that place where you are supposed to play and/or be creative.
      Even Mr Miller has done more for the band and he was never part of it.

    • @alejandromorales8715
      @alejandromorales8715 8 років тому +1

      +jeshkam Well, the band can do whatever they want, even if I know Dave is not exactly happy with those dynamics. But Ihave the right of not respecting him as a musician.

    • @brody5211
      @brody5211 8 років тому

      +jeshkam don't think there is hate towards fletch atall. It's just people don't think he does much musically . He actually plays more than people think . He doesn't claim to be a great musician as such but he's an integral part of DM and is a good friend to Martin . That's enough for me if it keeps the band going . Better than what peter does who isn't suited to DM in my opinion.
      It's a shame that Tim Simenon wasn't approached to play Alan's role .

    • @alejandromorales8715
      @alejandromorales8715 8 років тому

      Rocky I am very well aware of what he plays (Black Celebration/Never Let Me Down/Stripped basslines, certain samples in Personal jesus, Behind the Wheel's flute, etc) it's not that he's not a great musicain, it's that his sole presence onstage is disrespectful to all musicians and performers in the world who actually care.

    • @brody5211
      @brody5211 8 років тому +8

      +Alejandro Morales I don't agree with that . I'd sooner he was there than another session performer . DM are not exactly cutting edge anymore anyway . Ultra was the last great album in my opinion . So really does it matter if he's not a wizard musician at this stage
