  • First, this is a time consuming job. It took me over three hours or less to get this one side done (passenger side). I have edited out a lot of stuff to try to get this down to where it's clear on doing this repair/service. It's is a dirty job, a cursing job but having the correct tools, for the most part, makes it more tolerable. I did not try to sugar coat this work, it is what it is and depending on rust or damaged bolts or nuts the time frame gets even longer. Since completing this work, the truck definitly rides much higher in the front end. I also feel the occasional pot hole or bridge expansion joint a lot more since these are stiffer shocks all around. All part numbers I show in the video so if your going to ask for a part number, watch the video. Thank you

If your replacing the struts with after market struts, the bolts should come with the struts. The current bolts used on the Ford OEM struts are NOT sold seperatly. They come with the purchase of new Ford Struts. Bilstein provided new bolts in the packaging.

I noticed on these 2014 videos some have the lower spring perch pointed back and some are pointed the other. Is there a reason for that?

If the spring perch, which I call the saddle, is flipped upside down, this raises the front end by 2"s. May not sound like a lot, but when it comes to compressing the coil springs an extra 2", it is hard as hell to get the coils compressed enough to get the strut tip to stick out to install the nut. Took 4 spring compression tools to do this. It also had a negative effect on the ride. Because the spring is compressed so much, the truck rides like a pogo stick over every single bump, road crack, lump, etc in the road all I did was bounce, bounce, bounce. How do I know? Because I did have them upside down at first and drove me crazy. Truck looked cool, but road like crap. The saddle should be installed where it covers the Bilstein support ring. I moved the locking ring on the shock up 2 settings before dropping the perch/saddle back on the strut. It was not as hard to compress the coils to fit, but still gave my truck a more level look and no pogo stick bounce, A much much nicer ride. BTW, that perch/saddle is not sold seperatly at Ford. It is part of their OEM strut.
