Good morning sir! My husband and I have been together for 8 years and married for 2. I made this when out 1st baby was a newborn and I will forever cherish that memory of us all in bed eating your soup with cornbread watching Minions. ❤️ 6 years and counting.
My mom did this often, we called it garbage soup..... Pretty much ANYTHING that you can find that you like, THROW it in! Pinto or black beans, rice, left over steak chopped up, Chopped up chicken pieces, pork pieces, pretty much whatever! Season it up nicely and you got a great couple of meals! Thanks for the memories!
Omgsh my momma use to make this and I would be like omg how does she get that taste ...... • penny shopping and on a budget taste • I love my momma! hit that heart if you think the same
My mom used to make this all the time, it's delicious. I was searching for a recipe like hers and after about 10 gross looking ones I finally found what I was looking for, thank you! I'm makin this tonight! Great video. :-)
I watched your video last night and decided to make it today! I cooked the meat with a little dried basil, that's a good combination. I added a can of veg-all and a can of cannelini beans as well as a potato cut into 1/2 inch cubes. I slow simmered it covered for 90 minutes, adding the beans and veg all the last 20 minutes. it is excellent!
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for posting this some years ago. I've been using your recipe in the winter months for probably 3 or 4 years now. I actually add half a small head of cabbage every time but pretty much make it like you do (I guess another difference is, before I start anything else, I take a small bowl and premix my spices into it (all dry spices). It's usually: basil, thyme, rosemary, fresh ground pepper, onion and garlic powder, a little cayenne pepper and paprika). I always use corn at the end but sometimes either use green beans, lima beans, peas, or whatever. I actually am ready to eat a batch here in a few minutes. Just wanted to say thanks for posting this.
Thanks for sharing this with others. I make this at least 5 times during winter months. I do add pea's as well as all the other vegetables you use. It makes so much and I share with neighbors on a cold day. We all love it. It lasts for several days in the frig. My Mother made this quite often for 7 of us kids during the cold winters in Kentucky. Comfort food for sure. Thanks so much
You're quickly becoming one of my favorite youtube cooks. I'm making this also, with buttered french bread on the side. Good timing with fall and winter coming. +1
I was also in the Boy Scouts in the 60's and I remember making this as part of my cooking merit badge. Thanks for reminding me. Sometimes a dash of tabasco if it's cold outside.( I also make biscuits to go with it.)
Im making this soup right now. I didnt have a can of corn at home, but I did have one nice turnip, so I chopped that up and added it into my soup.......Boy this smells good! I love this soup.....thank you!!!!
love it, we called it ice box stew back when me and my boys were batching it, big ol pone of cornbread and ice cold glass of iced tea. it's after 2 am right now and i got a pot on now simmering, forgot the green beans but i got a can in the pantry. when i can't sleep i cook or bake.
Yes yes.. ! Me too... I make this weekly during the winter... the best for a cold day... Big piece of jalapeno cornbread.. OH yea!! Thanks for watching! :)
I made this multiple times since I seen this last year. I love it!...depending on what I have I do beef stock as well as chicken and both are excellent. I also boil some egg noodles on the side for whoever wants it.
Theresa Salcedo That is Awesome that you like it. so much.. One other thing you can do is forgo the potatoes and put a little rice in there.... just not too much....Noodles is a great thing to do too...Thanks Theresa!! :)

thanks for taking time out of your day to show this awesome recipe it brings back so many memories and I will definitely be making this have a happy holiday.
Hi ! I just made this soup for dinner. It smells delicious & tastes very good. I also made some cornbread to go with it on the Cold, thundering, rainy week. Thank you Sir for this wonderful recipe. I will share it with family.
Hello from Norman,OK! Looks a lot like one that I make only I use diced tomatoes & yellow hominy instead of corn but it's all good! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for a great recipe, my husband loves this soup, it is also good with the hamburger substituted with chicken. We like both ways just for a change.
Excellent recipe. As for me, I use cabbage with those taters & carrots. Sometimes I add half a can of tomato paste (a full can if my cooking pan is full of meat & other veggies). Does the job for me quite well. You know, it's great when you can have nutritious foods that taste so good. This is the type of dish that everyone should have especially in Winters. May everyone here have their bellies full every night and live long, happy, fulfilled lives.
What a great simple soup! I need to make this ASAP! It looks like it might snow again and I need to warm up my weary bones. Thanks for the share. Be blessed, Mr OldMan.
Looks good. I make it and add a can of corned beef. I take it out of can and put in fridge till its cool enough to cut it without tearing apart. Add large elbow macaroni and when noodles are done soup is ready for corned beef. It only needs to cook a few minutes to warm it up.
Looks good brother!!! I'm making some tonight with what veggies I have...I don't have any carrots so going to try with out.. but yum! Thanks,,great video!
I love hamburger soup but have never made it myself. Am I right in assuming you could add pretty much any veggies I wanted? If I added cauliflower at what stage in the cooking would you suggest doing that. I'm glad you add canned green beans because my experience with frozen green beans in soup gives it an upleasantly strong flavor. Thanks for the channel.
You Sir are welcome.. funny... I am 62 and I learned to cook this in Boy Scouts when I was like 10 or 11 they called it Mulligan Stew I ask what that was and the Scout leader told me... Everything except the kitchen sink... ha... Thanks for watching!!
Great! I'm making this tasty soup today for the family, great food for cold weather like today. I will probably add a bit of chili. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. :) Gracias.

I can’t wait to make this recipe today! What size stock pot did you use? I’m thinking my short 5 Qt. pot should be fine? You forgot to mention Garlic, Chicken broth, and Potatoes in the ingredients. 😜🤓
This looks delicious. I'm going to make it for sure. I've seen a few recipes for it. Does anyone know how well this stays in the freezer. I'd like to make a big batch and freeze some. 😀
Hello from Canada! I'm making your soup as I type...it smells great. To be different I added some 'herbes de provence'. Just to add a little savory taste. It looks pretty floating on the top :) And I just want to say you should be on the radio. I could listen to your voice all day. Maybe you should start a career reading audio books. haha! Where are you and your wife from? Well I think my hubby is going to love this and I look forward to trying more of your recipes. . I wish you and yours the best.
