Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, a saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century.
Has anyone noticed the amount of energy Martin Scorsese has. It's phenomenal at the age of 78.
Cause he loves what he do
The day he loses that is gonna be the saddest day ever, hopefully he stays healthy for many more years!
He should have played Frank in the movie unlike Robert De Niro Marty can actually still move
@@nicinat0r he is 81 now im pretty sure he'll do 10-12 movies before he turns 90
passion keeps you goin
Utterly fascinating to watch a master at work. I'd watch hours of this.
Yes. My goodness. Netflix please release more of this!!
Same here
Utterly fascinating how a movie is made!
@@VicenzoV No, it's long enough. But not too long. I've watched it several times--probably his best film since 'The Age of Innocence.'
ok boomer
There’s only one problem, this video wasn’t long enough
It's what it is.
What it is?
I feel the same
The actual movie was really long and slow-paced though, so that made up for it (not a criticism of course, i liked the deliberating & slow pacing).
There is also the Netflix 20 or 30 minute roundtable discussion of this movie too, if you also want more.
fake channel That roundtable is incredible! Just 4 buddies who just happen to be legends sat around a table talking to each other.
This film was absolutely phenomenal. Scorsese doesn’t disappoint.
It wasn't phenomenal. It was a ok. Won't be talked about in ten years like [some]. Except that it was long.
[Edit]
Fact
It was still good
@@badmanskill1112 you're dumb if you think it was just ok.
Just Some Guy without a Mustache He did some time
When Boon Joon Ho dedicated his oscar to Martin sir and everyone stood up in recognition of this master, you could see some people win oscars, but a few win the worlds. Genius has no age, truly.
Martin Scorsese is the Michael Jackson of filmmaking. Not only did Michael Jackson make great music, but he also inspired a generation of talended artists like Usher, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and many more. In the same way Marty's style has influenced Directors like Bon Joon Ho, Todd Philipps who were both nominated with him. The Joker is actually inspired by Taxi Driver and King of Comedy both directed by Marty.
Martin won oscar (the departed) and won the world too.
Lam Pham I mean. Scorcese is miles above mj
@@kaidurantvaldez5551 MJ and Marty are both artists. They just happen to perform different kinds of art. But both of them became influential in their respective forms of art. MJ influenced a generation of great performers in the same way that Marty inspired a generation of great film makers. By the way, Marty directed MJ in the Bad music video
Ironheart73 fair enough 😂
The energy of a child. The mind of an artist. I salute you Martin Scorsese.
To see him direct so passionately 50 years in his career just makes me so emotional. I need more footage like this.
he sat on ground on his toes at the age of 77 !!!
My grandpa also at the age of 83!
I was impressed that he was kneeling in front of the TV with all the confidence that he could stand back up.
It’s almost like not all elderly people are slow immobile cripples the way media portrays. Both my grandpas literally worked, did their own yard work and played with their grandkids until they were on there death bed.
@@alfredonichlosa1796 Goals.
His bending down and popping up again impressed me even more than the movie!
No Oscar for this masterpiece. Unbelievable.
@@VicenzoV "Overhyped. Overlong" Nice criticism. lol
Parasite was dope though and Scorsese looked really happy for bong Jo hoo
Because the theme ... Mafia controls power in dark side and government can't do anything.. It's like gangs of new york nominated 10th category but not won anything
VicenzoV this is better than that overrated shit Parasite that I just watched this weekend. 😴
VicenzoV this masterpiece is not for premature-ejaculation people im sure.
What a master. Effortlessly works with his actors and brings the best out of them. Knows exactly what he wants and how to articulate it, but at the same time gives his actors the space to find their own joy in their performances. I could watch a whole hour of this.
Please, put more minutes of this. It´s a masterclass!
3:24 Marty having fun makes me smile
I love that how deeply he communicates with his actors, i love hearing the calmness of the set, and mostly, discipline. That's what happens when you truely become wise and stay humble instead of doing a work and becoming arrogant and short tempered. Such a Master and a real human. He definitely enjoys what he is doing.
This man moves so precise. The vision in his head is clear enough to direct a room full of acting titans. I wish I had that
Scorsese is a genuis, Al Pacino dropped a bomb with this film, everyone did. The last big swing with Pacino, Pesci, and De niro absolutely jaw dropping film here.
I agree, Pacino was great
thank you for this netflix. Im really interested in becoming a director and this was really helpful watching one of the best.
Remember, if you ever try to be a director, don't try to be like Scorsese. Try something new and something you don't love as much as your favorite movies but you still need to be passionate about it. I'm directing my film rigtht now and it's hard but if you just don't give a fuck and just chase the movie, you can actually complete it. I'm struggling tho, i need to polish the script, sets and i need to learn stuff like editing, vfx and cinematography. It's hard doing everything by yourself but i hope i can manage to make my vision come to life. Don't care about the non belivers, you can do it.
Ankit Saksena The best currently alive and working for sure, but there are better directors than him.
Best of lucks!
God bless
Ankit Saksena What about Hitchcock, Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa or Tarkovsky he looked up to them
Ironically I could probably watch a 3 hour version of this too
Lmao me too
There is nothing ironical about it in this, I watched the movie with fun and I will watch this as well. There is no irony in it. It is what it is.
I can watch Scorsese making a film with Pacino and De Niro for hours.
What a legend, he made every 16 y.o a gangsta wannabe back in 90's.
You really think that’s his greatest accomplishment?
@@marshallzane7735 You're right. That's not his best achievement. We forgot to say he made every 16 y.o. a wannabe stock broker in the 2010s
@@firstnamelastname364 lol his perspective on films can be extremely higher, dont take it so seriously... i mean who wants a fucking jonna hill doing cocaine while u are fucking a extreme beautiful lady and making millions.. anyone right? Thanks martin
You missed the point
@@marshallzane7735 He actually depicted what happens if u take that path which is an awful journey in the end. Same with TWOWS, he showed how Leo & Jonah suffered in the end.
MARTIN SCORSESE IS 'G.O.A.T' , THE LIVING DIRECTOR WITH THE HIGHEST NO. OF OSCAR NOMINATIONS AND THERE WOULD BE ' MARTIN SCORSESE AWARD ' IN FUTURE .
Broaden your horizons, look into other genres and countries and I'm sure it will be harder to make this judgement.
@@jermyhopkisn9654 Yeah I know , I just said what was in my heart for him
I could watch this for hours
0:11 It's surreal that these are two legends at the top of the business for decades and this still just feels like a student asking the teacher to explain the text to him lol
You’re never too old to learn and get this Pacino is 2 years older than Scorsese
So even the greatest directors just converse with their actors, huh. Glad I'm at least doing something right in film school.
It's not "even" tho. You have to converse with your actors to be one of the greatest directors. Teamwork's essential.
@@boskee Of course. I'm just saying I don't see anything different than what I currently do. So there's stil hope for me haha
@@jon-vegard8386 Good luck. Make sure to remember and hire me as an extra in one of your future masterpieces, when you're that legendary director ;)
@@boskee Haha, thanks. I'll be sure to remember you
Jon-Vegard which film school
We really gotta admire Martin Scorsese while we still can. Legend is old
I can’t understand why Robert was not nominated as best actor in Oscar.
that He should have been...
Fuck Oscars
Martin I hate Marvel Sorcese fucked everything up!
Of course either Pacino or Pesci are better than Pitt but...
Hyungsuk Jung exactly it’s one of his best performance.
I cant understand, for exemple, Al or Pesci lost Golden Globe, Critics Choice, BAFTA on Brad Pitt...
The Irishman has been seriously overlooked in all of the awards so far. Ive seen OUATIH, 1917, Joker and none of them are a patch on this movie from a filmmaking or acting perspective.
Its baffling to me.
Sometimes I take for granted just how much work goes into making movies. So much planning and prep and expert skill.
Scorsese and Pacino have both been in the game for 50 years so to think this is the first time they've done a film together is crazy! Everyone involved are clearly having a great time and enjoying each others' contributions too; I liken this to virtuoso musicians all coming together for a jam. Scorsese, De Niro and Pesci are members of an old band reuniting and now Pacino's come to join in and the result is something epic.
0:33 you can actually watch DeNiro stay in his method, and absorb the information being given to the other actor, and act, and deal with the cameras and bustle around him while maintaining. What a genius.
When it comes to him with Scorsese, De Niro can do no wrong. He's one of the greatest actors of all time
It’s so sad these actors and director probably won’t work with each other again. But I’m grateful to have witnessed the greatness every movie they’ve done together
Why????????
These straight-up Behind-the-scenes, no interviews just raw BTS are great. More of this please, Netflix!
Anyone who complains about the length of the Irishman is no true Scorsese fan...I never wanted it to end.
Agreed, the runtime was necessary to create the emotional impact this film had.
Yea I know right. Bloody film should've been at least 5-6hrs 😂
[] iziah [] if it was 10 hours I wouldn’t mind at all
I watched it the first time on Thanksgiving morning, then a second time Thanksgiving night.
Ikr, i loved this film that i didnt wanted it to be finished honestly
The beginning of the video looks like Martin is conducting a orchestra while Al Pacino play a symphony.
The passion of this man about his work, at his age, really inspires me
"The problem is,time is limited and energy is so limited- the mind also,of course,"he said. "Thankfully, the curiosity doesn't end."
--Martin Scorcese
One of the best directors of our time with 3 of the best actors of our time it's so good to watch. I also dont think the guy out of Everybody Loves Raymond got enough recognition he absolutely nailed this role.
Happy 80th birthday Martin! 🎉

Nick Pesetsky idk about but I thinks gonna be a separate shot
@@vafanapoli5396 Separate shot?
It is so beautiful to see someone do what they love with passion and above that ... with so much talent!
Scorsese will always have space in my cinephile heart!
What I love so much about these clips is that so few "behind-the-scenes" actually offer a true glimpse into the filmmaking process. Normally it is a few talking heads of the cast complimenting each other with some shots thrown in of actors moving to their marks in a scene. Here we see the actors and Scorsese figuring it all out, how they process and prepare for the scene; an open conversation between creatives in realizing character and story. Obviously Scorese is one of the most prepared directors, but what I like most here is the freedom he gives his cast. He isn't telling his cast how to move or act, he's providing the emotional side, talking through the character's feelings. Once the actors understand their motivation, it manifests in their voice delivery and facial expressions.
Bam.
He directs it like an opera and with love! ❤😍
He is Martin Scorsese and look at the way he handles or treats his actors.. just wow
Man Marty is still the most energetic person on set
Just awesome. We won't get a new generation of actors/directors like this anymore though. Luckily these films will be with us forever!
Man, I want to see Fincher's version of this. Netflix do something about it!
WHOA. AGREED!!!
it'd be a 3 hour video of just 1 scene with 100 takes.
@@jefftennis3907 lol
@@adonisg667 you know it's true and on the opposite side of the spectrum if it were chris nolan behind the scenes the video would be 1 take and 30 seconds and move on to the next one.
@@jefftennis3907 Haha Yeah, or a one-take two hour video if it were Sam Mendes.
Scorsese is an amazing director. He can take a good actor and make them great. He really knows how to bring out the best in everyone from the actors to the set people and the camera crew. He makes a movie into a masterpiece.
This is great to watch
I feel honoured to have lived in the same era as him. A wonderful artist
45 years success life of Martin Scorsese. Martin's masterpiece the irishman
I love how they keep understanding the characters even while filming the movie, even Scorsese himself
He waves his hands like a conductor conducting a Masterpiece
the respect and trust of Scorsese is palpable in those environments. a true master.
One years ago, I saw The Irishman, which I found an ode to Scorsese's filmography. I actually liked that he was able to cast Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, and especially Robert De Niro who's been the most influential actor in his films for almost 40 years since Taxi Driver's release. So good job Marty.
You can genuinely tell he's having so much fun working on this film.
de niro was always in his character
Wow this Is GOLD! Thank you Netflix for share this insights into his process. Interviews are great but with this unedited bts is how you truly watch how they work.
That first clip is so emblematic of this movie. The dialogue is like music
Amazingly refreshing to watch a video of a director directing and actually hear what they're saying to the actors. It's a great way to observe and learn -- thank you !!
I love Marty’s mannerisms when he’s directing. It’s like he’s conducting music.
I love how scorsese treats the actors and how the actors treat him. Mutual respect 🙌
Scorsese is not only a master, he has also this kidness for all his crew.
He transmits his joy and passion in spite of the pressure.
Working with him must be a happiness.
Even behind the scenes the lighting is amazing 😭😭😭
Glad I am so proud that Martin made so many great movies during my youth.
I love how in his seventies, Scorsese can still make classics.
Netflix! Start releasing feature length “behind the scenes” documentaries for your originals please and thanks.
Amazing to see so many masters at work!! So amazing and special to watch
That man is hunched over from always stooping to give directives. Great man and legend
Scorsese is a legend, so many great movies it's staggering
It’s like he’s conducting a symphony
Have you seen anyone more energetic than this man at this age....
I’d never thought I needed to see al pacino wearing apple headphones
Scorsese GOAT
Absolutely inspiring to see how much heart and soul he puts into his work. So good.
It's alway a good feeling to see legends interacted witj each other
I love that Al Pacino & Scorsese really hit it off in the making of this you can tell Scorsese really was happy to work with him I hope they squeeze in another two movies
Its an absolute privilege watching these gentlemen at the peak of their craft and their through professionalism.
as a filmmaker im learning a lot about directing just by watching this legend speak To his actor
Marty always has nice, amazing and unique style and touch for cinematography, editing, colors and overall unpredictability!
I could watch three-and-a-half hours of this
Crazy how old these guys are and still work at such a high level like this
The oldies made a movie turned out to be a piece of gold. I love how they refer to each other. Marty, Al 😂
Wow how energetic and lively he is at he’s age is phenomenal
Martin is a legend ♥
It's cool seeing behind the scenes footage of this movie and how professional even the bts looks, shows how important lighting is no matter what camera is used.
What an elegant directing with love to the actors and all team! Amazing!
The best thing in scosese, "this genius" he gives all the freedom to the actors to do the best performance they got
This man has such crazy energy ! He runs up and down stairs like nothing at his age ! A Genius

Lol not quite
“Get in the fuckin car” kills me every time 😂😂 an instant classic 👌👌
I like how hands on mr scorcese is. He's the bomb yo. Legend
Here’s a Netflix show I’d watch: Fly on the Stage Wall.
Agreed. If you have not seen it, I recommend the documentary that comes with The Last Jedi. It has that "fly on the wall" raw off camera footage. Even if you don't like the film, but enjoy that kind of footage, it's worth watching.
This. I absolutely love watching behind the scenes set stuff but watching directors converse with actors. Giving them small little pointers for the scene is just fascinating to me. Its why I want to be an actor so bad. I don't have a directing bone in my body but I love being directed on stage or on set. Its just thrilling to me
I want a 3 hours footage of him directing(the more the better)! Please make it happen.
It should be an other 3 hours and half of this ! Can’t get enough
Please please Netflix we need a full version:(
This video shows a rare occurrence in this day and age...a director who still cares about film and not just money, money, money as most think.
Of course, as everyone, he probably cares about money to a certain extent, we all should care about money as it keeps us going but, when it comes to film, Scorsese still has the passion and the drive that most don’t nowadays. He wants to make genuinely amazing films, not empty, emotionless and pretty much pointless money makers.
This man made legendary films that are in the national registry and is held to the fame it deserved, you don't need an oscar to prove to this guy that he is a legend, his movies make up the mishap from the academy
Obviously he is just incredible and an absolute master but he can still manage to be so calm, energetic, reasurring and comforting and in good humor to everyone on set. I adore him as a filmmaker and person
