- Howdy people i would like to share with you all the trouble ive had with this ECM on this Cat 321D trying to feel out if anyone has ran into this sorta thing in there experiences in the past

Liquids will eventually seep into the bulkhead connectors and short the pins across each other which will cause some CRAZY problems and can eventually lead to hardware failures within the ECM or any other control module that is exposed to those liquids.

Bark is loose on them logs. Cat and thier fuel cooled ECM's worked for Cat for many years and have seen alot of issues with that. Those pins are so tiny and weak. Glad the dealer was good to work with!
AMEN on the dealership support in our area ! And the folks at Jasper Bolt are the best when it comes to hardware & hydraulic hose .👍
I'm slowly learning about the ECM engines and all the sensers that go with them . Feel like I'm chasing my tail half the time trying to diagnose an issue .
Wish I could turn the clock back 30 years when still had mechanical engines but I can't 😁

I think the heat gets em just as bad as the fuel/grime...If at all possible with harness length. I like to move/mount them onto the frame/housing and get them off the hot block.👍

@Logger Wade Yep...They just sit there and bake over time.They mount them where they do so power plants can be used in tons of applications. Get them off the motor and they will hold up alot longer....in my experiences!👍
Service means everything. I spent years trying to get the company away from that old Franklin junk. And now we have 3 new Deere machines and James River Equipment won't even call you back 🙄 Its freaking ridiculous...

Boyd cat is a big company it use to be Wayne supply they have a spot at Corbin ky that only about ten miles from the house the one at Corbin use to stay so busy with big iron like tens and 11 dozers 992 988 loaders and there big haul trucks when coal was doing good then when coal went crazy now they hardly keep any big equipment but they do keep a lot of rental stuff now and they keep a lot logging equipment now but keep up the good work and videos wade and thanks for your reply the other day on the log mills shutting down all around but stay safe hopefully one of these days I’d like to meet all of you and if you ever come to south eastern ky I’d like to meet up one day but stay safe ole buddy

I had a Cat D8R that the ECM went out in. The Dealer's mechanic came to my job to make the "under warranty" repairs but couldn't get the machine to start. Finally after 3 days of saying , "the new ECM and my computer says it should start, but it won't...we nor the factory have been able to figure out whats wrong or if it's a computer problem". The end results was that the factory sent an ECM for a highway truck (same identical engine) instead of sending one for a dozer's engine. They made that corrrection and after 3 days of down time (with a mechinic on the job trying various other things, but mostly sitting idily on his ass) my machine went back to ripping rock....and no additional problems ever again.
I still hate these ECM machines, give me the old "tried and true"!

I was wondering the same thing the way cat is changing all there numbers and letters around I wasn’t for sure but I think he ment R or T models I could be wrong I usually am.

We got Boyd cat down here n wv it n belle & they r always nice n helpful we have a wailer paver cat motor n made also but always make time we can b n the middle of paveing n have a problem they r there fast

My 501 cat buncher had ecm trouble not long after I bought it. It has the same c6.6 perkapillar your 559 has. It would start fine sometimes and not at all others but we figured it out eventually I absolutely hate ecm engines that’s why I still run mostly old stuff besides the buncher 😂

Anything leaks on the ECM YOU will cook it in time. It eats the coating of the board sealing and shorts it out. Also if you dont Put dialectic grease on the electrical plugs Moisture gets in there and corrodes the pins Which results in intermittent problems. Mfg these days mount the ECM in the stupidest spots were is Obvious if a fuel or hydraulic line leaks or blows its going to soak the ECM
