If you like this you will love the band Ambrosia. They started out progy, then became an amazing pop band with great vocals and musicianship that has a ton of hooks. You guys probably heard some of their hit songs, but you will love all their music.
Cool Change is probably my Fave! LRB song.. I was 23 in '78 which is around the time I mostly remember listening to them.. LRB had numerous hits.. they wrote easy listening songs with a lot character.. great band. Also I grew up on Vancouver island (B.C. Canada) so I have a huge connection/ amount of emotion for the love of being near/ on the water as in their song Cool Change! I do Love this one too though! Lol!
Why is it called “yacht rock” ? I was a child when this song came out , I remember it and I don’t have a yacht. But Little River Band are a great vocal harmony band
@@davidkelly2355 I'm like you. I'm in my 50s and this was a big song when I was a kid. But yeah, people younger than us have gone back and labelled this Yacht Rock (along with acts like Barry Manilow, Boz Scaggs, Captain & Tennille, etc). When I first heard this I wanted to protest. But then I thought, yeah they sort of have a point. And I love yacht rock, now that we're calling it that.
Reminiscing was a #3 hit in the U.S, the biggest they had here. One of the founding members, Beeb Birtles, had been a member of the Australian pop band Zoot, which helped launch the career of Rick Springfield, also a member. One of Zoot's biggest records was a hard Rock version of the Beatles' Eleanor Rigby.
VERY interesting! I'm looking at Rick on the Guitar in a video for it (Eleanor Rigby) from the late 60's(?), this is not bad. I love checking out covers (interpretations) of classic songs, really liking it. But . . . if you are daring, its ironic that my all time favorite cover is Eleanor Rigby, by a Progressive Thrash band from Milwaukie called "Realm", they were the 1st Thrash band to use Guitar Synths and were very different than other bands, sadly they only have 2 albums and one of their guitarists passed away a few years ago. I love how they emulate the violins by making it a "riff", and the vocalist adds harmonies at just the right time. I like that they take it over the top and almost make it their own song. Their original material is really awesome (that is, if you are into heavier music). They also do "Red Nightmare" from King Crimson. Kansas, and the Prog Metal band "AtmOsphere" also do Eleanor Rigby, both very good as well! - Thanks for "Zoot"! Will have to checkout more :).
Gee I really liked that version of Eleanor Rigby by the Zoot. I was my of my first singles ever. Do you remember how high those guitars were thrown? Good memories.
IMO this is a great Mix of America (Harmonies) and Steely Dan(Music). Another great songs are "The Night Owl", " Lonesome Loser" and "Help is on it's way".
Excellent choice Lots to listen to from this great Australian band Glenn Shorrock is the vocalist Graeham goble and Beeb Birtles vocals and guitars Be careful the original band lost the rights to the band name The new guys are still out there Using the LRB name
I have one question, Have YOU heard of the Lonesome Loser? I am beaten by the Queen of Hearts everytime, I'm a loser but I just keep on tryin.... top notch musicians!!! huge fan of them! This is one of my top five favorite songs of the 70s. Grew up with this song on the radio! Good for you two to have finally discovered a wonderful piece of music.
The original lineup of LRB was one of the best compilations of musicians ever, their best of album has so many bangers. Too bad 3 major members got hosed later on. The beginning of "It's A Long Way There" reminds me of the first chord of your intro music. I saw revisions of the band in 1997 and in 2006ish, great concerts but not the original members. They still tour, I think.
Little River Band is from Little River, just south of Melbourne, Australia - I'll be there next week - Definitely must listen to COOL CHANGE - you'll love that.
I was lucky enough to see LRB live in the UK, circa 1978. They were awesome live. Just as they had a top 20 hit in the UK called "Happy Aniversary". Check it out great track!
The 70s was the best time to grow up. Being in my 20s then and all the advancements that were going on in music made listening to the radio a daily adventure. Listening to and seeing Yes and ELP for under $10 a seat for good seats! The Eagles, Doobies, Floyd, so many bands all in their prime, pumping out today's classics. Hearing "Stairway" for the first time or "Smoke on the Water" before radio killed it. Every payday was a trip to the record store to buy 2 albums for around $10 then racing home to break the cellophane on what you hoped was your new favorite album.....man life was simple........ Cool Change is my fav from this 70's pop radio ensemble.....used to do that and this one at karaoke back in the day. #nicknlexrequest you guys are great love the genuine reactions you give
You nailed it. I was 15 in '72. The Doobie Brothers were my jam. Imagine later in life I have a full custom A/V installation company, and I get a call to go meet Tom Johnston, lead guitarist for TDB. Oh guys. So so so glad your getting into LRB. Glen Shorrock is such an awesome singer. Harmonies are epic. So much body of work from 30+ years to get into. Try Lonesome Loser. Epic track. They also do pop/rock well too. Great reaction guys.
Always have loved this song but didn’t recall it was The Little River Band ! Just a basic but great little ‘Love-Song’! With everything happening in the USA and world today, thanks this brings me some calm!!! I’ve heard this hundreds of times and it still sounds Great !
Hey guys, LRB were our top vocal harmony group down here in Australia in the 70's/80's. They were superb songwriters & fine musicians having major commercial success in Australia & the States. Glen Shorock was the original lead singer who was replaced by John Farnham for 3 years in the early 80's before rejoining the band. I strongly recommend "It's a long way there" from their self titled debut album, make sure you check out the full album version. It features beautiful orchestration, vocal harmonies & stunning guitar work by original lead guitarist Rick Formosa. Happy listening, cheers
Michael Mc Donald or Steve Winwood are very deep holes to explore....Steve starting about 15 years old in the Spencer Davis group...then into the band Traffic in the early 70's....then his solo career.... Michael's musical journey working with Steely Dan....the Doobie brothers then his solo career....also check him out with Donal Fagen in 2012 as The Dukes of September. Enjoy the ride! Love the channel.
When I hear little river band I always think of another band as well, Ambrosia. Their song How Much I Feel came out the same year as this song, 1978. Biggest Part of Me was pretty big too. Real smooth tunes. I think yall would love those two. And have you ever listened to Christopher Cross? He worked with Michael McDonald as well. Very much sugar sweet soft rock (which I'm fine with) on most of his stuff I've heard, but well put together. Maybe check out Ride Like the Wind w Michael McDonald. Might be a fun listen. One last bit lol, if yall havent fully explored hall and oates I think yall would thoroughly enjoy their early stuff into the 80s. That philly soul sound they had was amazing. If you love these kinds of 70s tunes, it will be right in y'alls wheelhouse.
One of our greatest bands to come from Australia. So many wonderful songs to listen to and discover. Like others I really recommend It’s A Long Way There . The long version though - not the short one .
Also you'll like Atlanta Rythym Section as well.....As to the 70's music, we were exposed to at least 9 or 10 new songs each WEEK! So, add it up.....a multitude of music.
Here in the UK we class this and as ' Yacht Rock ' one of my favourite genres and eras ❤ ' Cool Change 'was also super popular too, his voice is fantastic ❤
PUTTING THIS IN CAPS TO SEE BETTER - PORCUPINE TREE HAS A NEW SONG COMING OUT CALLED "OF THE NEW DAY" COMING OUT MARCH 8TH - WE'LL ALL BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR IT!!
Brings back memories. Just a beautiful sounding song. This one and Lonesome Loser are the only ones I've heard by LRB. Another band I'd add to that area of SteelyDoobies etc. would be Pablo Cruise. Anybody remember them? Whatcha Gonna Do, A Place in the Sun, and Love Will Find a Way #nickandlexrequest are the ones I recall with fondness. '75-'78 were awesome for sophisticated rock. I ❤️ '70's!
One of my favorite Little River Band songs. Have not heard this in awhile, takes me back to Reminiscing, lol Perfect title. You're right Nick, the 70's had so much great music put out, it was the decade of the bands! Thanks for doing a react for this one.
Reactions to these kinds of songs are so fun. My 16-year-old KISS/Zep/Aerosmith loving self would have raged with disgust when this came on the radio in '78. Now, I can discover the slight musicality of this one with an open mind and open heart. It doesn't hurt anyone. Wisdom!
Yes, LRB is a rabbit hole. An extremely polished band with superb vocal harmonies. Please do "Fall From Paradise" and the full album version of "It's A Long Way There"......both stunning songs. There's so many others too.....'The Man In Black', 'I'll Always Call Your Name', 'Happy Anniversary', 'Red Headed Wildflower'.....and two of their poppier hits, 'Curiosity Killed The Cat' and 'Witchery'. Have fun.
Little River Band does tour still, but be warned - none of the original members are involved. The original members lost the rights to their own name, or something to that effect, and so the current incarnation is essentially a cover band, and none of them are Australian to my knowledge. It’s a pretty sad and sour story.
I always love the smiles on your faces during gems like these. It's ditty's like this that make me think the only reason we've never been attacked by aliens is because they all want to leave us alone and keep making those sweet pop songs that only that planet earth can do ;)
One thing that surprised me about this song when I first heard it in 1978 was the reference to the Glenn Miller Band (big Band Era) as well as Cole Porter. Both of those would have been unfamiliar to most of the target audience, yet the song was very successful. You should check out Cool Change.
Hey Guys--Great reaction. This band is from Australia. Great harmonies. This song is one you can listen to over and over and over. Dig deeper into their catalog like you did with Steely Dan....Like the other comments...Lonesome Loser is my favorite. You cannot go wrong...just another great band from the late 70s and early 80s. Peace :-)
I find it fascinating that you've never heard this song before considering it always seems to play on the radio all the time. But I guess it depends on which station you listen to, I listen to easy listening or oldies stations, because of course I'm an old fogey 😆
Hello friends: I would like to make you a proposal to react, the song Caterpillar And The Barbed Wire by the group Riverside, the studio version. I haven't seen any reaction to this song or this group on Yotube, maybe that's why you're interested. Thank you, congratulations and greetings from Spain
I was 9 when this song came out, and it's one of those songs I remember from when I was a kid. It might not be my usual style per se, but since i fell in love with the song at a young age, it kind of stuck. It's ironic that this song about nostalgia makes me now nostalgic. #nicknlexrequest Rush - Hemispheres
But it really is nice elevator music! Harmless fluff. Nothing progressive about it all, by 1978. Reminiscing, in fact, like the rest of the corporate radio. Look at the charts for that year. 50's throwback stuff. Disco. Grease. Debby Boone. The energy of the late-60s and early 70s had been replaced with stuff that rocks no boats. Disco. Grease. Debby Boone. Australian bands, like LRB. Had you been there, you would wonder where are the groovy went. And before long, sure as trend, Lennon would be killed, wrapping up all that hippie world stuff. Welcome to the '80s and regressive music purgatory. To hear the song out of context, it is a fine little song. It's place in music history is not advanced by reminiscing. I liked their song, "Cool Change" better...songwise AND messagewise. "Time for a cool change..." They played both sides. :)
Thank you for this. We have a shared experience. It was distressing and depressing to have this nice, little fluff all over the airwaves in the late 70's. I suppose that's why certain non-radio rock bands, who we never heard on the radio, felt so damned important to some of us. I can appreciate it somewhat now, 40 years on.
@@triscat Exactment! The context in which this song was to be found was a world growing more materialistic and backwardly-focused. It was grotesque and bewildering. But as you said, the best work was not to be found on radios, but on concept albums, for sure, and others, where artists refused to be squoze into the little packages more easily handled by marketers. These are NickNLex's found treasures. Exuberant that they are finally getting public play, because they never did at the time. It was a privately shared quality circle.
I was a teen when I first hear Little River Band and I was hooked. You're in for a treat as you delve into their music. So many awesome songs to enjoy with them
Great band many songs worth listening to. Another rabbit hole worth going down is Gino vannelli , Brother to Brother from the album with the same name. Amazing vocals and musicianship as well. Trust me you’ll like it. 😂
I first heard LRB when they released their first single in the US called "Long Way There". I didn't know who they were but fell in love with their sound right away. Of course I'm older than both of you but it was delightful to watch your reactions to this great song. Frank Sinatra said it was one of the best songs he ever heard. Reminiscing was the first LRB song I ever played for my girl friend (now my wife) and she still mentions it ever time we hear it on SiriusXM some 43 years later. As for Steely Dan, their Aja album is just a masterpiece. Thanks for the video.
I believe one of, if not the most underrated groups out there they have dozens of great tunes, great lyrics, great beats, great vocals, great harmonies and musicianship
This song is one of Australia’s most played songs on U.S radio…. Little River Band formed in Australia in 1975…and broke through in The USA and toured their many times ….. the Band Today isn’t the same as it was back then….. plenty to discover…. Home on a Monday, Happy Anniversary, it’s a long way there, Everyday of my life, Nightowls, Playing to win.
Little River Band was more like “Styx light” than Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers. What they were was a very good pop band in the late 70s/early 80s but ran out of steam there after, they had “snappy tunes” and good production but lacked the exceptional qualities of say Steely Dan. Your comments were very gracious and you both did a good job of articulation the finer aspects of the band.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!
Yes! Talk about "Steely Dan" vibes! I believe the guitarist is David Jenkins and his staccato jazz licks just take you there.
One of my favorite Little River Band songs. Have not heard this in awhile, takes me back to Reminiscing, lol Perfect title. You're right Nick, the 70's had so much great music put out, it was the decade of the bands! Thanks for doing a react for this one.
when you get to' Men at Work'...Overkill and Down By the Sea...I want my SHOUT OUT !!
Would love to see you go back down the Doobie brothers “rabbit hole” with “takin’ it to the streets”
Reactions to these kinds of songs are so fun. My 16-year-old KISS/Zep/Aerosmith loving self would have raged with disgust when this came on the radio in '78. Now, I can discover the slight musicality of this one with an open mind and open heart. It doesn't hurt anyone. Wisdom!
Isn’t it amazing how some of these 70’s pop songs have improved so much since they came out😄
@@deepermind4884 I was trying to be kind.
Slight musicality? wow...I have to disagree.
@@jenniferjacobs228 That's okay. All shapes and sizes.
@@jenniferjacobs228 Exactly- this is a complex arrangement and skill level.
Have fun.
One more you'd probably like is "Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs.
Little River Band does tour still, but be warned - none of the original members are involved. The original members lost the rights to their own name, or something to that effect, and so the current incarnation is essentially a cover band, and none of them are Australian to my knowledge. It’s a pretty sad and sour story.
The last time I saw them about 2 years ago the only "member" was the bass player who came in when Glenn went 100% vocals. The guy was from Cali.
You gotta hear Lady, Cool Change, Lonesome Loser, and Night Owl next. So many hits!
Super easy listening band. Cool Change is my favorite from these guys.
How about Doobie Brothers “Turn it Loose” as a first listen? A lost classic from the band!
Also, the Doobies brothers “South City Midnight Lady”
Peace :-)
You must listen to the first album named Little River Band and in particular the long tune It's A Long Way There! The entire album is good!
It's a long way there.. is a great Little River band song you need to get to!! Superb Job as always guys!! YAY 😁
You guys have to do some Ambrosia "Holding on to Yesterday" is a great one to start on, amazing harmonies.
Great song Frank Sinatra said in the 70’s this song he liked the most 😊yes the 70’s are amazing !
Nada mas placentero que ver a gente joven como ustedes disfrutar musica de la cual ustedes no eran nacidos cuando se hizo. Gracias y saludos amigos!.

I am 63, always brings a joyful tear and a smile

I find it fascinating that you've never heard this song before considering it always seems to play on the radio all the time. But I guess it depends on which station you listen to, I listen to easy listening or oldies stations, because of course I'm an old fogey 😆
May I also recommend LRB's Light of Day for your #nickandlexrequest ?
Hello friends: I would like to make you a proposal to react, the song Caterpillar And The Barbed Wire by the group Riverside, the studio version. I haven't seen any reaction to this song or this group on Yotube, maybe that's why you're interested. Thank you, congratulations and greetings from Spain
Long Way There (album version) is an absolute masterpiece.
Love this track but their coup de grace is definitely it’s a long way there a true classic .. love the mix of music you react to .. 70’s rules 😊
I have suggested LRB before to you in the comments
LRB is ear candy. The musicianship, the songwriting, the lyrics, Glenn Shorrock's lead vocals, the backing vocals, the harmonies . . . all phenominal.
"Time for a cool change..."
They played both sides.
So many awesome songs to enjoy with them
Great track from a great Aussie band!
One of John Lennon's favourite songs.
Great band many songs worth listening to. Another rabbit hole worth going down is Gino vannelli , Brother to Brother from the album with the same name. Amazing vocals and musicianship as well. Trust me you’ll like it. 😂
Great band with a bunch of hits. "Lady", "Lonesome Loser", "Cool Change", and "Night Owls" are other great songs.... and there is a ton more.
70s bands tended to have much longer shelf lives than the other decades!
They are from Australia.
The Gathering - Waking Hour(TG25: Live at Doornrooosje)
A band I HOPE Lexi will get into, got her 2 CD"s :).
The thing about being 20 in 1970 is that when you make a favorite play list, it goes on for days! Cool Change from these guys is also excellent.
We were so lucky with all the music we could pick, weekly!
This song nods to the 1940’s Sinatra-era, big band sound. John Lennon loved it.
I believe one of, if not the most underrated groups out there they have dozens of great tunes, great lyrics, great beats, great vocals, great harmonies and musicianship
Great Australian music
This song is one of Australia’s most played songs on U.S radio…. Little River Band formed in Australia in 1975…and broke through in The USA and toured their many times ….. the Band Today isn’t the same as it was back then….. plenty to discover…. Home on a Monday, Happy Anniversary, it’s a long way there, Everyday of my life, Nightowls, Playing to win.
"Lonesome Loser" is another excellent LRB song
Little River Band was more like “Styx light” than Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers. What they were was a very good pop band in the late 70s/early 80s but ran out of steam there after, they had “snappy tunes” and good production but lacked the exceptional qualities of say Steely Dan. Your comments were very gracious and you both did a good job of articulation the finer aspects of the band.
*I adore you guys.* 🥰
What a wonderful couple - that love listening to all these beautiful songs that most of us experienced when we were young. Thank you for spending your precious time with us. 💜💫✌🏼🎵
Another rabbit hole😂 You guys are so awesome! I'm so glad you like this song. Little River Band really is a great band. Lots of good songs❤️
The output of great music in the 70's is due to no internet and very few TV channels. We needed something to pass the time.
Great Aussie band 👏
Love Cool Change or Lady.
Oh… and the band was great live! Great players and everyone could really sing! Saw them in 1978.
Hello friends! I actually always thought this was an 80’s song. I heard this song so many times in the 80’s. Dont think i knew it was by this band either! Nonetheless i love it. Always have and hearing it again was a treat! Fun video! Love the smooth vocals. Perfect song. Take care until the next one! Cheers everyone!
I remember dancing to this song at our High School dance with my favourite girl - not married but still friends 34 years later.
This is such a beautiful song for couples such as you guys! Smooth and shimmery.
P.S. You forgot to mention how beautiful the lyrics are.
Such mixed emotions. When my high school sweetheart and I broke up I played this song over and over and over crying. But I do really love it. 🥰
You guys picked a good one. This might be my favorite song of theirs
